Ever since I moved downtown, I've been hesitant to try any nail salons around the area mainly because it was nearly double what I used to pay. Up until yesterday, I had been driving half an hour to my usual salon. I can happily say that I've found a new go-to nail salon! Although their prices are steeper than I'm used to paying, I don't think I've ever had a better nail job. My nail technician was Katie and she was fantastic. She shaped my nails beautifully and made sure they were completely dry before applying the polish to prevent bubbles. I'll definitely be back soon. read more

Alas! An excuse to pamper myself came about and I thought I'd try out a mani at the Nail Box. I made an appointment for a weekday afternoon, corresponding by emails through the yelp app. The response time was quick! When I talked to the receptionist she said they do accept walk-ins but it does tend to get booked & busy, especially on the weekends so it getsa bit difficult to accommodate them. The place is so cute, charming, and refreshing to the eyes. When you get to the salon, they give you the break down about your options. You can choose between a variety of colors from Essie & OPI lines. And they carry another brand that costs $5 more because it lasts longer and has less chemicals in it. They also offer you water or hot green tea, which is nice. As for the actual manicure, I thought it was very clean and thorough. It looked meticulously done and I was happy with the results. No bubbles + no cracks and everything was evenly applied. Solid job! read more

Probably the cutest nail shop I've ever been in! They really take their time with helping you pick the right colors and are incredibly attentive about making sure you're happy with your visit. The owners are a really cute young couple and you can tell they are really trying to do something different with the nail shop experience scene in LA. The three stars aren't for the service, job, or experience at NailBox LA. The service was great, they let you know what to expect and how much it'll be. The job was amazing, it's exactly what I wanted, and the experience was great too! The setting is aesthetically pleasing and great for picture taking. Not only that, but they have free parking for two hours! My only complaint would probably go to the owner for their ridiculously overpriced services. I'll admit, I went there, knew what I was getting into, but going home with this design and a pedi, I felt extremely regretful. I live in the valley, so coming here burned a lot of gas, plus traffic, and to spend a whopping $97 for this gel design, a pedi with "premium $5 extra polish" plus an 9$ tip was just really really stupid. I was going to go for a simple line design on every finger, but was told it'd be $3 per finger??? I don't know, the pricing was just... absolutely ridiculous. I won't be coming again, and that's not against any of the employees that worked on me today. I'd rather spend $20 for a mani pedi here in the valley, than for an experience that's truly not worth the price. But hey, if you're willing to burn your hard earned cash for something like this, then go for it. read more

THANK YOU NAIL GODZ! A little obsessed with this place and the folks working here. Everyone was extremely nice and welcoming, especially the owners. The salon is designed so well, with custom seats for Pedi's and amazing modern furniture. Also the bathroom is really clean and great for nail selfies against the black tile and marble tiles. The staff is great and takes interest in creating the design you want. My nail artist was Hannah, she did glass nails on me and I cannot stop looking at them! Really pretty little spot tucked away in One Santa Fe with lovely owners and staff. It's head and shoulders above your usual acrylic-smelling chop shop - they even use copper pedi bowls instead of yucky plastic tubs or chairs. It's a little pricey - $50 for a regular mani-pedi - but it's worth it. I also like that ALL they do is nails, there's no eyelashing or waxing going on in the back. When nail salons do too many things, at least some of those things will suffer in quality. Another great addition to the Arts District! read more

Nailbox LA is amazing!! I've been coming here since it opened and they're great!!! Starting with the interior design of Nailbox LA, it's chic, simple, and clean!! Parking is free (2 hours with validation), and the people that work there are very pleasant. From the very beginning, they greet you at the door and walk you through the color wall, if you're new. They discuss the different brands and collections they carry. Once you're settled, they'll offer you a drink (tea, water). A much needed change to the current nail salons that are found everywhere in Los Angeles. They carry multiple brands (OPI, Presto (I think), NCLA, and Rockstar)...and my gels last me typically 2-3 weeks. Their prices are fair and they do great work!! Messaged Nailbox LA on Yelp about setting up an appointment and they got back to me right away. I scheduled my appointment for right after work, but unfortunately got caught up with a last minute assignment and was late. I messaged them to let them know and they responded immediately. I was about 15 min late, but they were really accommodating I was able to get in right away for my gel mani. My nails looks great! Polish is applied well and my nail shape looks amazing too. Not only do my nails look great, but this place barely smells like the typical overwhelmingly chemical smell that most salons have. The place looks modern - unfortunately the good staff finishes right here. They charge $60 for Mani- Pedi. Manicure - I think the person who was working on me was very new and I am not sure she took appropriate education.... I asked for Round shape and Ended up with Almond Shape Nails. The nail color application was a disaster - she put a very thing layer very slowly so it ended up very rough and uneven all around. She had to re-do the color on my hands 3 times blaming the nail polish fault. On the last time I asked to put a thicker layer - on what she just put the top sealer .... When you look on the light on the nails you could see it through - Hate it. Pedicure - no massage chair, absolutely no calluses removal. They even don't bother use stone to scrab the heel and ball of your foot ( I think it is first time in my experience). The total time for pedicure was about 20-25 minute. Have been going to this studio for a year now due to it's convenient location but this week it was my last visit. My appointment was for 7 pm. A new lady who did my manicure was trying to remove my gel with foil + acetone but not everything would come off. So instead of spending more time to soak my nails, she took the machine an started removing everything with this machine till my nails were completely clean. In the result, all my nail surface is uneven, covered in dents and scratches! After that she just put oil on top and tried to let me go because she forgot (!!) to do my manicure! When I reminded her that I had an appointment for the actual manicure, she looked annoyed and started quickly doing my manicure. My right fingers spent literally 20 seconds soaking in water, and she started removing my dry cuticles. No need to say that she cut me once and left me with burrs. I can't believe this was something I paid for. I needed to go to another place and fix my nails where everybody were terrified to see this result. read more

Not to forget it is super clean and cute! The chairs you sit in for a pedicure are so comfy and adorable. I take everyone here when I want to do a girls mani/pedi date! Overall, it was a great experience! I loved the space it was in, the ladies were nice, they were playing the good 90's music. The only reason I didn't give five stars because it had been a MILLION years since my last mani/pedi, and my tech really didn't spend any time on the much-needed massage part of things. I had a tragically outgrown gel manicure I needed fixed, but one of the nails had dipping powder on it because the nail broke... unfortunately they didn't actually remove the dip powder off the nail. I'm sure they would have spent time on it if I had asked, but it was late and I didn't feel like pressing it. I got the most basic manicure and pedicure offered (called "The Signature".) Let it be known, it is BASIC. This is the service for you if you want a quick in and out experience with very minimal pampering. That said, Aria and Katie did a good job and were very quick, so I got what I wanted. All together it was $55, which seems like a decent enough price. read more

Visiting LA from Houston this week and wanted to check out this salon due to all the rave reviews on Yelp and what I've seen on the blogosphere. The decor of the salon is so cute! Everyone who works here was very friendly and the prices are incredibly reasonable, especially for downtown LA. I had SNS dipping powder already on my nails and the woman who did my nails was able to remove them, give me a manicure, and paint my nails (with designs) in less than an hour.
