RUINED MY BRIDAL SHOWER NAILS. I OPTED FOR PRESS ONS. Ladies, I went here to get my nails done before my bridal shower and I was horrified. Tammy - if your staff does not know how to do acrylic DO NOT SAY THAT THEY CAN. DO NOT WASTE MY MONEY AND TIME. I'm so upset. I asked for white acrylic and it looked liked I dipped my fingers in a can of Elmer's glue. It was halfway down my nail, misshaped, an inch thick, and streaky. I had never done this in my life, but I made her take the nails off of me (they STILL are not completely off) and left the salon with damaged nails and no one even gave me a refund. I was forced to go to CVS for press on nails. All I was offered for my ruined bridal shower nails was a giftcard. NEWSFLASH. I am not coming here again. when I first walked in, the place looked very clean so that was a plus. Once I sat down I asked her if they had a pedicure above just the classic she said yes the signature. Most pedicure prices jump 10-15$ for the one above. NOPE! there's went from 27$ to 57$!! so she puts a packet of coloring in the pedi tub and I said can I just do the classic, instead of the signature. Mind you she hasn't even touched my feet yet, and she said "no sorry I already put packet in water and that's for signature" I know that packet didn't cost 30$ Let me give you the run down of the signature pedicure. It is almost the exact same as a classic pedicure at the salon down the street (nail by design) she scrubbed the dead skin off my feet with a pumice stone and grater, squeezed some lotion on my calves (no massage of any sort) put my feet in parafin wax, wrapped my legs in hot towels, and then painted my toes like crap. I told her multiple times that she messed up spots and she would just paint other toes. I usually go to nail by design, they do great pedicures, great prices and are super clean and friendly. This was not worth the time nor the money! I initially wanted an abstract style for my nails and was told they only do solid colors?! Then they had the nerve to charge 55 for plain white nail refill! Outrageous! And the shaping of my nails are terrible. I had to ask her multiple times to shape it coffin and not round. I've been going to Tammy since before she bought the shop. Everyone is good and it's always a good experience. I won't go anywhere else!

My bloody toe and sore fingers testify to how substandard the quality of service is at this establishment. First, my pedicure water was scalding. The nail tech then added cold water, turning the lobster boil into a tepid soak. Then came the tools. Wow. The cutting on my toe cuticles was so severe, I'm still bleeding two days later and hoping I don't get an infection. Also, the foot massage was excruciating because the lady dug her thumb into the top of my foot over and over again! Meanwhile, my upper extremities were undergoing their own torture. The hand nail tech had me twisted in a painful, sideways contortion so she could rough up my fingers while the "pedicure" was happening simultaneously. The water for the hand soak was downright cold making it the most unpleasant cuticle soak ever; however, at least the soak felt better than the painful cuticle removal--ouch. Once the torture was over, I was extremely surprised by the $70 bill. I've paid much less for a much more pleasurable experience. Never again. read more

BEWARE, THIS PLACE DOUBLE-DIPS DURING BRAZILIAN WAXES!!!!!!! It is with sadness (but no regret) I post this review. Having moved to Bethesda from NY recently, I was on a mission to find a waxing salon that would give me a quality brazilian wax for less than $50. I am devastated to leave J'aime Day Spa of Manhattan, NY, located on 35th and Madison, my go-to place for sanitary, quick and clean brazilian waxes for $36 :(( I definitely took for granted how good I had it for many years. I made an appt, went in for my service. The lady who waxed me was very friendly. She instructed me to get onto the table. While she started waxing me, she was very chatty (but in a good way). She told me about the history of the salon (it's a long-standing family business) and asked me where I was from, what nationality I was (she told me she was half vietnamese and half italian) and we bonded, being both Asian and all... about Asian-y stuff. A few minutes into the procedure I realized I wasn't hearing the slight "plop" I would hear each time (at all other waxing places Ive been to) after each wax (signaling the discarding of the tongue depressors/wooden sticks). To my horror, she kept dipping and double-dipping (triple dipping, forever dipping!!) into the hot wax with the one wooden stick she was using from the beginning!!! WOW. I said to her, "Ohno... are you double-dipping?" To which she very quickly replied "Oh.. no.. of course no.. I don't double dip when I get closer to the real area down there.. this is just at the top..." and from then on (to my knowledge) she did not double-dip for awhile. However, toward the end, there was a small patch of stubborn hairs that wouldn't rip off near my mons pubis/right before the labias, and I saw her re-dipping (again... 5-8 times) each time she applied wax to the area!!! I felt sick to my stomach... I was shocked. Absolutely horrified. I couldn't express it and was holding it all in. I am the opposite of a confrontational person. I am usually the type that suffers quietly without letting anyone know when I get these services done. I paid for my services, paid her tip (I'm not going to be rude), and left the salon. I will never come back again. ***I would usually close this kind of negative review with recommendations to the readers.. something like "please be vigilant while getting your wax done to see if they double-dip"..... or "tell them that you absolutely do NOT tolerate double-dipping prior to your wax" but unfortunately it's already too late. The wax that is sitting there before you come in is already probably contaminated. read more

Place is nice and clean. But service was not the best. My best friend and I went in to get full sets of acrylics- and neither of us were pleased at all. Her acrylics were cut MUCH too short and it didn't look like she had gotten acrylics whatsoever. My acrylics look absolutely awful. My nail technician used WAYY too much of the acrylic powder and my nails are much too thick and in addition, they look lumpy and uneven from the side. I got a square shape this time- and the tips of the nail are much wider than the bottom- so the square shape looks cheesy and cheap rather than classy. Would not recommend this place since some of the workers there have no clue what they're doing and you never know who will be doing your nails. Considering going back and asking for a refund or some free fix of this awful set. read more

I literally just got a pedicure done there based on a review of 4.8. I had old gel that had to be removed. As seen by this picture (granted that I don't have pretty nails) the gel was not completely removed. I noticed this even before she started painting them and though I was not happy I'm really not the person to be too picky, but after being charged $37 I feel people need to know before going in. I went to the one on Old Georgetown Road because it happened to be across from my office. I went in because I just wanted to see what all the fuss was about... it looked so frou frou from across the street that I finally gave into temptation. Ok... apparently they are real big on making appointments instead of walk-ins. They will still take walk-ins but according to the technician that worked on me, she said that they take longer to do your nails than the average salon because they take pride in their work. Anyways, I type a lot so I needed to get my nails shortened (I have acrylics) and the girl (Sam) who worked on me did a great job. She gave me the length I wanted and was able to thin out the nail as well so it looks very natural. They have Essie, Opi and other brands that are well known and a vast selection of color. Just a plain fill will run you $22.... the place I go to out in Gaithersburg charges me anywhere from $16-$18 for a plain fill.... $22 for french.... Also, please note that they do not accept tips on credit card- make sure to have cash handy. The atmosphere was nice, you feel pampered and it's a little urban oasis in Bethesda. Enjoy! read more

Awful. I specifically said on the phone when I made the appointment that I am very particular about my nails. I wanted to get gel, but after the technician finished cutting cuticles it became clear that no way I would want to drag attention to my hands with that horrendous manicure. I just asked for clear and was on my way out of there. The lady did a horrible job. My mom got nails done too and hers were no better. I went to Nails by Tammy for waxing, and overall I was very happy with the services they provided. The space is very attractively decorated, everything is very clean, and the atmosphere is fairly warm and inviting. Scheduling an appointment is easy and their hours are convenient for anyone working a 9-5 daily. In terms of the waxing specifically, the esthetician who worked with me was very friendly and happy to make conversation, which always helps me feel much more comfortable. The wax that they used was not too painful, and for the most part she was quick and efficient in her work. I did feel when I got home that it would have been nice if she had maybe plucked some of the leftover hairs with tweezers or made a second pass with the wax on a few areas, but overall she did a very good job. I would be more than happy to patronize this business again and to recommend their services to others. read more

I agree completely with Annette B.; you must make an appointment when you go. They have been there so long (at least at the sangamore location) and most of the clientele are regulars. I've been going there for over a year and never have been dissatisfied with their service. They are great at customer service and do a great job with fills and pedicures (the only services I get done there). Everything is sterilized there and very clean so no risk for any sort of infection. The only reason I give the 4 stars instead of 5 stars is that it is more expensive than other nail salons in the area. read more

just went here before the wedding and I am totally thrown off by the lack of respect I was just shown. I saw a color I liked after my pedicure and wanted to see it looked as cute on my toes as it did on my hands. I don't know these things. So, I asked my pedicure lady to help me and maybe see if I like it on my toes. She rolled her eyes and said hold on. I said fine. This was my first time going here, but I had a great experience! I got a mani (shellac) and regular pedi. Immediately when I walked in I felt welcomed and not rushed. One of the girls helped me pick out my polishes as well, which I have never had that at other salons. The pedi was perfect! Jennifer did an excellent job and gave this amazingggg leg/calf massage (at least 5 min on each leg)!! The shellac mani went very well too! The girl answered all my questions and made sure I liked the color before it was "permanent." I love my nails!! I guess they say..once you go shellac, you never go back!! It's amazing! The price was $62, and I gave a generous "holiday" tip. Plus they were so nice I can't wait to go back to them in about 2 weeks! I went here a couple weeks ago for a full set of acrylics (because I'm tired of redoing my nail polish every 5-7 days). I had Yvonne, who was quiet but very nice. She did a wonderful job, and was efficient but not rushed. The salon is nice, clean, and they have a massive selection of OPI nail polishes, which I appreciate! They have a ton of pedicure chairs - I may have to get a pedi next time I go in for a fill! They do accept cards, but only cash for tips. Also, while they do accept walk-ins, they prefer appointments, as they are a fairly busy salon. I regularly come to Nails by Tammy for gel/acrylic manicures and fills maybe twice a month and always (okay almost always, but more on that in a moment) have a great experience. I've probably had every single nail tech, save Tammy herself, and every one of them are polite, efficient, and attentive. You never feel rushed or ignored, and Nails byTammy doesn't ever push you through the steps and make you feel like you're on a beauty conveyer belt. The pedicure chairs are comfortable, the decor is bright and clean, and the recently acquired chairs at the nail stations are also cushy and nice. I've had a few pedicures as well as simple polish changes up through a detailed silver glitter french manicure with miniature jewels and always been very satisfied with the results! For the price, this is a clean nail salon with great service, the best you'll get for your dollar here in walkable Bethesda. Major credit cards are accepted but tips must be paid in cash. I did have one bad experience with Jennifer, unfortunately, where she cut my nail so aggressively that I bled. That was far from a nice time for me, but she was very apologetic and cleaned everything up quickly and efficiently. This won't spoil my feelings about Nails by Tammy; I'll just be sure to avoid her in the future and stick with the other techs I've had great results with before. read more

What a disappointment! This location used to have different owners and was called Acquanails. That company closed this location and my nail tech moved to the current location in Sangamore. I go there now because it is worth it. Nails by Tammy doesn't even come close. The staff and space is less clean and professional under the new owners. The last time I had an appointment, apparently the shop was slow so they wanted to close early(!) They left me a voicemail asking if I could come in before my appointment, but I didn't get it until I showed up. They seemed annoyed that I hadn't accommodated their request to close early. The staff was sitting around and eating, making it clear that showing up for my scheduled an appointment was a big inconvenience for their Saturday night plans. Finally, a nail tech peeled herself away from the group; and with a sigh and huge eye-roll, deigned to come over and do my nails. So sorry to make you do your JOB! I won't be coming back here again. My friend and I decided on a whim to get pedicures this weekend, so we took to Yelp to find good and inexpensive places in Bethesda. Nails by Tammy was one of the first options that came up and the solid reviews led us to check it out. They opened at 10am on Sunday, and we got there shortly after that. We didn't have an appointment (as I said it was on a whim), but they took us in right away. The nail techs were really nice and made sure you were comfortable in the massage chairs. We had a really enjoyable experience and the pedicure was only $27. I'd recommend spending a little bit more for the mani/pedi combo at $38, but we had one-track minds at the time. I go here for my nails. Was very thankful I discovered this place not long after I moved to the neighborhood. I live right around the corner so it's convenient to come by when I want my nails done and I realize I have a few free hours. I try to call ahead, but have walked in as well. I haven't had to wait, but I know sometimes there will be a short wait if they are extra busy. The place is clean, the staff is friendly. They always have new colors in, so I enjoy picking out something different for my nails. The manis are great and usually last me more than a week, the pedis will go for almost a month. $28 for both is a good deal and a small price to pay for the happiness a new nail color brings me. read more

I've been going to Sandy's for years. But three years ago, new management came in and things haven't been the same. They didn't treat some of the girls with the respect they deserved. I was THRILLED to learn that Tammy and Lynn had moved only a few doors down. This location is much nicer and roomier than Sandy's. Tammy was with another customer, so I got my nails done by Crystal, who has been at this location for years. I like square with rounded corners and she did them perfectly, with a great massage. I was excited to see they had more Shellac and Opi Gel colors than some of the other places in Bethesda. Will try that out next time along with the nice massage chairs. Best value in all of Bethesda.
