I grew up coming here and I still stand by it. Servers are so friendly and helpful. We (my family) will typically go for the bento boxes - a great deal. It's honestly enough to eat at that meal and then take some home for the next. We love to get the sesame chicken and lemon drop. My mom's favorite thing to get is the baked mussels. Naked fish was one of the few loo businesses making sushi open past 8pm, and in the area of Hayward this is quite the rarity! On initial entrance to this quaint restaurant located in a large parking lot with Safeway, the waiters were all accommodating and vibe was very laid back. The menu is huge so it took a little to look through it! The rolls are all well priced at ~9 for regular rolls and ~13 for large rolls like the Dragon Roll. The food came quite quickly, including a Tonkatsu Bento box, chicken karaage Bento box, and the dragon roll + naked fish roll. The rolls were pretty beefy, and tasted great! We wanted eel and were able to get that craving fixed at good quality! For the Bento boxes however, as two fried entrees were chosen, the lateness of the night could clearly show. The fried karaage and tonkatsu both tasted of old fry oil (a bit smoky), and for the tonkatsu specifically, the breading was so thin you could see the other side of the pork on the bottom. Again, it was decently late (~8:10 pm) when we visited, do it's understandable not everything will be fresh and perfect. Will definitely be back to get through more of the sushi menu, but laying off of those bentos for now! read more

Naked Fish had a catchy name. So we went in. Hubby got the katsu donburi. Hubby enjoyed his donburi. I ordered the combo bento - veggie tempura with tonkatsu. The tonkatsu was delish. The veggie tempura was too doughy. The panko was missing. I ate three pieces and left the remaining three pieces. The table tops & floors are very sticky. Quick service. Food came quickly. This is such a lowkey spot in Hayward. FRESH ROLLS. EVERY ROLL. 10/10 driving here from Daly City because I brought home a rainbow roll for my boyfriend and he wants more! I had a shrimp tempura roll, Cali roll, and took a piece of sesame chicken from my cousin! All really good. Prices are cheap as well. Customer service is great, very friendly, and always comes by to refills water and making sure we're satisfied with our orders. I overheard a unhappy customer about their roll not meeting the quality expectation and the server took her time to go into detail about what fish is what and what sauces they should've tried it with. Personally for me, the quality of the rolls are good to me, could give more pieces but for the price you pay, order another one! Chirashi didn't have much more than fish, rice, and a bit of wakame salad, but the fish pieces were large and of good quality, and the price was less than we're seeing at most places these days. Is this place ever open? I've called during lunch time multiple times and no one ever picks up. I keep forgetting to drive by and check the store hours myself. Google Maps says it doesn't open until 4pm, and Yelp says it's open by 11am during the week. They have no recorded voicemail message indicating their hours. Really losing out on a lot of revenue by the disorganized operating hours and lack of response. Since I can never get through to this place via phone, and am not wasting a trip out there if they're closed, permanently removed from my sushi to-go list. read more

This place has been a favorite of ours since I was in middle school. Within the last two years of my dining experience there, I have seen roaches trickling on the table I was eating on. 2020 Shelter in Place Review: This place was the first place I tried sushi back in 2009 and encouraged me to try so many other Japanese foods. After surviving a fire in years past, this place is ready to scrap through the pandemic. Open for Take Out Only from 4 PM - 9 PM! You can try phoning in your order but there are many people also trying to phone in so you must be patient. If you aren't, I would suggest ordering in-person which is an option. Week of (4/20) I was able to connect by phone on first try around 6 PM but yesterday (4/27) I got a busy line 3 times and a fax/disconnected tone 2 times before connecting. When I finally connected to the other person over the phone they were very patient and sounded friendly! After waiting 15-20 minutes after my phone call to come in, was able to pick up my order almost immediately on both occasions. Everyone does well to make sure one person is inside at a time. Teriyaki beef was plentiful as there is a hidden layer of beef under the initial layer. Salad was crisp but thousand island dressing was essentially soup. California rolls tasted fresh and were accompanied by wasabi and ginger which I do not use. I wish this place well during the SIP and will update my review once they reopen to full service! read more

Came her for lunch on my work break with my coworker for the first time. Conveniently located in a shopping center, your guaranteed to find parking. We were sat quickly and served hot tea. We both got bento boxes, I got beef with salmon and tuna sashimi, and my coworker got salmon and California rolls. The bento boxes come with salad and miso, the miso was good, but I wish it was hotter. I got my soup like warm. The sashimi portions were generous, and the chicken was juicy and flavorful. If I need a quick sushi fix while at work, I know where to go. read more

I used to really like this place. I'm talking like a decade ago lol. They're not as good as they used to be for sure. The waitresses are nice though. Last visit I ordered the bento with sashimi and beef teriyaki. The beef did not look good. It was a grayish color, overcooked, rubbery, flavorless, (I got the sauce on the side), regrettable choice. The sashimi also didn't seem as fresh as it should have been. Not my go-to place, but it's close to my parents house so we go there from time to time. read more

This restaurant is where my sushi addiction started! I use to come here, almost, weekly years ago when I was a broke college student. Dishes here are inexpensive and good! Whenever I'm looking to get my sushi fix without spending a bunch of $$$, I'll come here. I hadn't been here in a while but I came last night for a quick dinner. This place has not changed at all :) Their deep fried California rolls and pot stickers are my usual go tos. I decided to also try the Chirashi bowl since it was only $15! The fish were sliced a little bigger than normal but they were still super fresh and melt in your mouth good. Service was also great! We didn't have to wait long and we were regularly checked up on. Naked Fish gets two stars because try as I might, I can only come up with two good things about it :( Pros: - OPEN LATE - We arrived at 8:42 p.m. and still had time to have dinner before they closed at 9:30. (Yelp shows a closing time of 9 but it's 9:30) - LOW PRICES - Rolls were between $4-$12 with an average of $8. Our dinner for 3 cost just under $36 which is really good. Cons: - SMALL PORTIONS - Our rolls were about half the length of a regular roll but bigger in circumference. Unfortunately, it was like they made half a sushi roll and then just rolled the outside in rice twice. Now only do you get a lot less of the good stuff and a lot more rice but it makes the rolls more difficult to eat. - UNPLEASANT TASTE - All the rolls were lacking flavor but had what tasted like sriracha and dressing squirted on top to try and detract from it (?). To us, none of the rolls were edible. The first few bites burned out our taste buds and then when we got wise and scraped off the sauce, there was no flavor left :( The chicken and gyoza had very strange flavors as well, almost like they add sugar to everything they make. We were really disappointed in all the flavors. Overall this place had a weird vibe. Plain decor with a Buddha wearing a Santa hat and staff speaking Spanish...We didn't know what to think about most of it, this place is kind of a hot mess but the only thing that really matters is that the food just isn't good. When I came in the chef could tell I was new and asked me if I've ever been here and continued to welcome me and hopes that I enjoy the sushi and come back. Indeed I did. My favorite would have to be the lion king roll. These rolls are not the type of sushi where you have to open wide to fit the roll in your mouth.
