We came on a Saturday dinner and there was already a lot of customers for 6p. The service was good! We ordered blue fin sashimi, California roll, shrimp tempura roll, topiko nigiri, mother & son roll, beef tataki, spicy tuna roll. The beef tataki was so good it was mostly gone before I could take the photo. California roll consist of snow crab and imitation was good, usually other sushi places use imitation only. Spicy tuna roll was not spicy enough. Blue fin was very smooth. Mother and son roll was very large, you need 2-3 bites for each piece. Shrimp tempura was fair. I will be back. read more

While Naked Fish may not have the most amazing food, it hits the spot if you have a craving. I stopped by today because of an udon craving. I got a chicken udon and was pleasantly surprised by how tender the chicken is! In addition, there was a good amount of spinach and seaweed! It was a nice and simple udon to satisfy my craving. I also shared the nigiri with my partner. The highlight was definitely the salmon - fresh and fatty!! The rest of the nigiri was standard. It wasn't bad nigiri, but just didn't taste as fresh! As for the service, I think the servers did the best that they could given the layout of the restaurant and we sat on the corner. I love coming here when I'm craving a simple sushi dinner. There is usually never a wait so we are always immediately seated. Their service is a bit slow, mainly because there are only two servers working (at least the times that I have come in). The quality of the sushi isn't the best but I still enjoy their food every time I come. They have a great happy hour with sake/beer and select food items. I work in Millbrae and spend about 75% of my time in town, this place has a tremendous deal on the lunchtime Bento Box and its my go-to. Its between $15-$18 for a YUGE lunch. Although they open at 1130am its easiest to get someone to answer the phone for a takeout order closer to noon. I'd like to think she simply forgot but I couldn't help wonder if she offer the happy menu only to Asian couples .. since the couple next to us were Asian. I hope I'm wrong but I found it convenient how she simply didn't mention the happy hour menu to us a non Asian couple. My go-to place for pretty good sushi in Millbrae. Sometimes there's a big delay in sushi orders because usually there's only 1 sushi man at the bar. But as an Americanized Japanese restaurant, all their rolls taste pretty good. Nothing too dramatic, all surprisingly tasty compared to the price. "People go for the food, but come back for the service". Or more pointedly, "don't come back because of the service". Dropped in with the fam for a quick bite since we were in the area (ignore the two check ins...intended to eat here a while ago, checked in, but ultimately ate somewhere else), and things started out smoothly enough. We walked in about 15-20 mins before they were to close, but our server encouraged us to take our time since only the kitchen was shutting down - not the restaurant. Awesome. While I normally would have ordered sushi/rolls to sample their quality of food, I simply couldn't resist their lunch special - a 3-item bento box for $8! Crazy. Out of the typical array of choices (beef/chicken/salmon teriyaki, California rolls, gyoza, tonkatsu, etc.), I had the Saba Shoiyaki, Chicken Katsu, and the Mixed Tempura. Of the bunch, the Saba Shioyaki was easily the best. The siza was modest, but the flavor was pretty decent. The Mixed Tempura was rather average overall, and the Chicken Katsu tasted more like batter than chicken (as well as overcooked...probably because it was sliced so thin). I've certainly had better, but I can't complain too much based on the price either. As for the service...I don't even know why our server seated us since his "encouragement" to take our time wasn't genuine. Not only did he give us our bill right after our food had arrived, but he repeatedly made a point of stopping to check if it was ready (which it wasn't, since we were still eating). As soon as we threw in a credit card, he was right there to snatch it up...and came back again and again to see if the slip had been signed (at one point, he even took the book away...only to come back and tell us we had to "sign it"). Once we got up to leave, he was right there to lock the door behind us. Now, I understand we were there after their posted hours, but it's not like we were taking our sweet time (we took about an hour), and he had said it was fine. If it was going to be such a problem, he should have just told us they were closing when we first asked about a table. We wouldn't have had minded going somewhere else, and it certainly would have saved everyone the trouble. Sorry Naked Fish. Inexpensive sushi is never as good as expensive sushi. It's just one of those things that you kinda get what you pay for. So I always grade smaller, strip-mall-type sushi places on a curve. You don't get champagne fish on a beer budget. So, for cheap sushi... pretty damned good. The portions were generous, the setting quite clean and modern. I bought a friend there for her birthday the other night first of all we were one of the only people in there which should've been a sign second of all the miso soup they gave us was warm, and I had to send it back my chicken Bento box tasted terrible, they switched it out for some California rolls. Staff didn't bother saying hello, eent straight to business and said "how many?" My daughter and I went there for lunch, had bento box, 1 order baked mussel and 1 order sushi roll and tab came up to almost $65. I checked the bill and was charged differently from the menu price. I questioned that to our server and her answer was, we haven't had a chabce to update our price menu. They should have informed customers about it and no effort at all to adjust the bill. Not only it took them long to serve our food ( only 5 customers in the restaurant), food wasn't great like it used to be, customer service was bad and to top it off with the bill issue. I am so happy to finally be indoor dining here again. This is hands down my go to Japanese restaurant for its outstanding price and freshness of ingredients. Service may be hit or miss, but they are all usually very friendly, though they can be slow. I've been here so many times, but wanted to point out that their beef teriyaki is super tender and not overdone and that their fish is always fresh and flavorful. Portions have gotten smaller recently with the Lunch Special bento (unbeatable price for the value), but it is still such a deal compared to many other similar Japanese spots. I was a little irritated that they wouldn't turn the lights on! There were only 2 tables for the first hour, and I got the impression that they weren't turning on the lights to save money. I have been going to Naked Fish for more than 10 years! I always get the exact same thing. They know me when I call. I moved about 20/25 minutes away about 2 years ago but still make the drive there to get my dinner! The last 5 times I've ordered to go, again same thing every single time, they have made mistakes. Literally every order for the last 5 years they have made some sort of mistake. This saddens me. I still enjoy the food but my order is simple and I just don't understand why they just can't get it right. The last time I realized it was wrong before I left and they remade it my roll so I had to wait and I was super hungry. I asked for just a few edamame and she tried to charge me for a whole side order of it!
