We have wanted to try Namkeen for some time, but I was not willing to wait in the long lines that formed at their location daily. They closed for about a week in order to better deal with the customer traffic. I went online and placed my order and was told it would be ready in about 30 min. Walked in and my order was ready on a table. Nice and fresh. We sat at one of the two tables outside. The flavors in the tikkaville sandwich taste true to the region being represented (Pakistan), and make for an original and creative sandwich idea. Very flavorful and well executed. The Nashville (Hot) chicken sandwich was also very good. I was impressed by the fact that the HOT one is actually hot, unlike many other places. It might make you break a light sweat but it is definitely manageable. If you are a spice fanatic, it won't be bad at all, but it will satisfy where it is supposed to. They used breast for their sandwiches and both times it was juicy and fried perfectly. Definitely worth the trip to Chatham. Highly recommend giving them a try. ENJOY!!! read more

Unfortunately, my phone camera is out of commission, so this will be a text based review. I was invited to attend Namkeen's soft opening and so I'm just reporting what I see. And the first thing I saw was a box of Aunt Jemima on the counter. That rules out the waffles for me, which is sad because I would have enjoyed the cheddar waffle if it was homemade. Hopefully the restaurateurs read this and learn waffle making from scratch and ditch the box! I also saw a large array of spices on the shelf, so other than the waffles, I think everything is prepared in-house. So I ordered a hot sandwich (extra hot) and the tikka mac for a variety of flavor. Not going to ding any points for service, but the guy who seemed like the owner (advised me this was a soft opening private event until I told him I was invited) was wearing his mask over mouth only, no nose. Everyone else had theirs properly. Food arrives, and here are my impressions. Sandwich: The chicken is incredible. Perfectly done, moist inside, super-crunchy outside. Nailed it. The "HOT" is really not all that hot, but it's got a nice tingle to it that will satisfy most people. The orange sauce they drizzle on it is a nice contrast, and then cole slaw and pickles finish it off. The sandwich is a bit small, but a reasonable price, so just order two. Tikka mac: I will order this every time. Every. Time. Same great chicken, a nice tikka red sauce (not tikka masala at all) that also seems to have some heat to it and plenty to mix into the mac, plus a side of green sauce to add contrast. Nice sized portion, tasty mac, and as the crunchy "skin" from the chicken gets mixed in, you get all the different flavors and textures in this wonderful marriage. Finally, I had Barbican pomegranate, a malt soda from the middle east. If you like trying the beverages of the world, this one is a most pleasing complement to the meal, sweet and fizzy. Couldn't finish the hot one. The medium had us sweating profusely. I would start with the mild. Flavorful & crispy chicken. The cheddar jalapeño waffle is also delicious as is the slaw. I'm going back, just going mild. Worth the 30 min wait. Only advice to owners - better crowd control in these COVID times. There were too many people inside. I saw this place on tiktok and decided to come try it for the first time with the fam. We went to the Chatham, NJ location. The store itself is small but has charm due to the Pakistani and Urdu inspired decorations. BLUF: if you like chicken ticka- you will really like this place. The food came out at a decent time considering we had a large order. We got the tickaville sandwich, Nashville how sandwich (naked slice level), ticka Mc and cheese, tenders (mild spice level) and dhamaka fries. The tikka like sandwiches are similar to the Nashville hot but the chicken tender is covered in their house ticka sauce. To start, that was crispyy. If you don't like ticka sauce- don't get the tickaville bcuz that's a lot of what the flavor profile is. They put coleslaw and chutney, but most of the taste to me was chicken ticka. My desi parents loved the ticka ville. The Nashville hot sandwich was really good and crispy. We got no spice for a kid, and he really liked it. The crisp of their chicken is really good. Then we got tenders, we got them mild and they were really crispy (again lol). It's two large tenders on some toast with a lil coleslaw and pickles on the side. Very good pick really enjoyed. On to the mac&cheese, the max and cheese on the bottom had little cheese sauce tbh. It was again covered with chicken ticka sauce covered pieces of chicken. Those who tried it really enjoyed it. Again- if you don't like ticka sauce, don't get the ticka sauce flavored thing since it really dominates the other flavors. Dhamaka fries were loaded fries with diced up chicken with ticka sauce chutney and other stuff. Those who are some really enjoyed it. Finally, if you got a big appetite and your hungry, order more than one item. The one knock I'd have to give them is that some of the food with the ticka sauce got really cold a couple minutes after we picked up the order. Other than that it was still really good. read more

Takeout only due to the circumstances but wow, after a 40 minute drive back home, the food was still amazing (and the chicken crispy!!). Growing up, there was no halal Popeyes or kfc to try in the area, I was beyond excited to try this place and I was not disappointed at all (this place impressed my desi parents, and that is saying something). We got the chicken and waffles, the Belgian waffles are huge and fluffy, when combined with the syrup and chicken, it's the perfect mix of sweet and savory. The clucking chicken sandwich had to be my favorite, the waffle, the chicken and sauces just made for the most amazing bite. The Nashville chicken sandwich with the coleslaw and the pickles and sauce definitely hit the spot. Side note we got the highest spice level, and it is very very very spicy, they mean business. I will first start off this review by saying OH MY GOD. I cried eating their chicken and waffle sandwich because it was just so good. It had the perfect mixture of crisp, flavor, texture, and blend. The belgian waffles are fluffy and soft while the chicken was savory and delicious. I'm from LA originally and have probably been to Dave's Hot Chicken over a few dozen times, and Namkeen definitely is a fierce competitor for the #1 best hot chicken. I can't wait to go back and am so glad Namkeen opened. It took us over an hour to get there from Brooklyn, but I would 10/10 do it again because it's so good. I've sampled quite a few fried chicken sandwiches during the pandemic, as evidenced by my ever expanding waistline. This understated spot is far and away the most worth the calories. Juicy, tender, perfectly spiced (I originally ordered the medium or knees weak version, but since this was my maiden voyage the server wisely recommended the mild or sweaty palms version). Trust me, this was plenty spicy, and I love spicy. I am a devoted Chick-fil-A fan, but this is a whole other level of spicy fried chicken sandwich, and well worth a few extra bucks. I have been wanting to try this place since it opened, but usually the line is out the door. I happened to drive by Friday night, and when I saw the line was short I took advantage of it! I went with the basic chicken and waffles, no spice added. IT WAS DELICIOUS. The chicken was perfectly cooked with a thin layer of crispy bread crumbs. It came with butter and maple syrup on the side. I couldn't have been happier. As I was finishing my last bites, I offered my father in law a taste to share in the joy.
