Today we stopped at the Montgomery Mall and there's a Nan Xiang Express located on the outside of the mall. We had Pork and Crab Soup Dumplings, Spring Rolls, Fried Udon Noodles with Beef and a Chicken and Broccoli Rice Bowl. Everything had good flavor. There dumplings were nice and juicy. The food was done quick and served hot. It was a small quiet place.

Very new and clean! Just took my fiancé's parents here last month as they've never had soup dumplings before. Quick with fast service and a cute interior (it's located on the side of Montgomery Mall). You order up front at the counter (can do in person or on the tablet)! They have a smaller selection of items than the full Nan Xiang restaurant location in KOP--but you also could order boba here (not available at KOP). We got the pork soup dumplings as well as the chicken ones. Both were good though would recommend pork if you don't have dietary restrictions. The fried pork bun was also tasty. Pretty solid!

Last year, following an awesome elite event, Nan Xiang in KOP become one of my absolute favorite spots to go out with my family. I am so pumped they decided to open one even closer to us at the Montgomeryville Mall so we have it as an option any night of the week now. Been in three or four times now and I'm definitely a big fan. The menu is different (smaller mostly) than the KOP version, which is a full scale restaurant vs an express like this is. There are a few items on this menu that aren't on the other location's menu too. Overall, the food is great. I will say, for some items it is probably not up to the same level as the full service restaurant, but still very good. Some of my favorites are the stir fried noodles with beef, the spicy peanut wontons, the pork buns, bok choy, and the pork dumplings. The soup dumplings are good, but definitely better (and maybe bigger) at the real restaurant. My biggest critiques would probably be the prices being seemingly just as high as the full service restaurant and the dine in experience due to flimsy plastic cutlery and bowls, which make things a bit of a challenge at times. I do really enjoy the food and having this as an option and I would recommend anyone with a Chinese craving to check it out.

    C1.Cucumber Salad w. Garlic Vinaigrette

This was my second visit to Nan Xiang Express. While the full service restaurant version of exists elsewhere (a local location in King of Prussia), this Montgomeryville "express" location was good for a quick well prepared meal. I chose the garlic cucumber dish as a starter, which was fresh, crispy and mixed with a light garlic vinaigrette. I also had some soup dumplings that came out hot from bamboo steamer basket. The shop was empty, but you self order at a Kiosk, with a staff member bringing you your order when ready. The person who did this in my visit today was very friendly and efficient, making this visit very nice on all fronts. Note while the selection is limited, that fits the word "express" in the business name.

Pork Soup Dumplings, Cucumber Salad and Wontons in Spicy Peanut Sauce

We really enjoyed our first visit to Nan Xiang Express, a cute, modern Chinese dumpling house next to Macy's at the Montgomery Mall. My date had the Summer Special Combo consisting of home-made Pork Soup Dumplings, fresh crisp Cucumber Salad With Garlic Vinaigrette and a sweet Passion Fruit & Lime Green Tea. I ordered the Wontons In Spicy Peanut Sauce and delicious Shrimp & Cheese Pot Stickers. The portions are larger than they appear on the menu photos, so our above selections were quite filling. We would recommend all of these and there are plenty more interesting dishes on their menu for us to try next time. It's also exciting that this place is physically connected to a Bubble Tea Shop and a Hot Pot & Korean BBQ house which we also look forward to trying.

Fake C5.Shrimp Spring Rolls. It should be filled completely with shrimp paste

The soup dumplings are premade, so the peel is thicker than the ones you get from the actual nanxiang. The beef scallion pancake only has two pieces of meat. The actual nanxiang has 4-5 piece. What's most outrageous for me is the shrimp spring rolls. 3 pieces of shrimp spring rolls cost 7 dollars, why? Because the actual nanxiang use shrimp paste only as the filling. What you get here is the vege spring roll with a tiny piece of shrimp in it. It cost 50 cents each at any Chinese takeout. I'm okay with premade food given its express. But I'm not okay with switch-a-roo.

(Note: if you only want smaller serving of their great, thick noodles, order $4 add-on as a side in place of rice with regular dish.) I always have leftovers to enjoy at home. Dumpling orders are large and shareable. (Always 6 or 8 pieces.) My fave when dining in is amazingly delicious and huge Fish Fillet in Hot and Sour Cabbage Broth. (That's best with rice side to help absorb broth.) So good and healthful to balance the dough density of whatever dumplings you might also order -- they're all great. When getting order to go (or delivered) I like Kung Pao Chicken; it travels well. Order added green veggie dish for sharing -- I lean toward Chinese Broccoli; you'll really want the balance with the delicious dumpling and noodle dishes. Large cocktail menu -- Lychee Martini is so refreshing. Important: cash only for dining in. There's an ATM by their front door. Takeout and delivery accepts credit cards. Most reasonably priced parking nearby (if you don't score a limited street spot) is ParkAmerica at 1040 Race St a few doors down. In fact, it was one of the valet guys in that garage who recommended Dim Sum Garden when I was seeking great Chinese option. (Thank you, Ceasar!)

I just get a feeling that the focus is on pushing alcoholic drinks rather than on the food. The pork buns felt like they were previously frozen and were very sweet. Shrimp dumplings tasted off. Service was never the star but it wasn't so dismissive either. Just a very bad experience and while I won't go back, I also don't want to rate them 1 star as that would be unfair. Their food now is no better than the next guy and that's disappointing. Cash only btw. I write this because they do not post signs and a couple tables had to go grab cash from their ATM machine.

While most people only come here for the afternoon dim sum, the real magic happens on weekend nights when the big room is buzzing with a live band and a party on the stage. It's a mix of large families sharing exotic dishes and adventurous locals enjoying Chinatown-quality Cantonese food without the nightmare of city parking. If you're looking for a deal, the Twin Lobster ($40) is a steal and plenty for two people. Beyond the lobster, I highly recommend their Salt Baked dishes (perfectly seasoned), Beef Stew or Lamb Hotpots, Littleneck Clams with Minced Pork or Walnut Shrimp.
