Came here later, stage and banquet hall

Seriously enjoyed the banquet style dim sum hall here! The tea service was quick and attentive, bringing us more water and tea almost as soon as we were out. We love a good cart service dim sum. Come with a larger group so you can get a taste of all the items! Standouts were: chun fun, beef balls, lo mei ga (glutinous lotus rice--they have dried scallops in there!), and shockingly the egg tart. It is sooo silky and buttery that is clearly margarine based but sooo tasty and flakey. We got there at 1 so it would be less crowded!

Went to this place back in December 2024. Before you read my review, my family and I did go here around 2:00pm on a Saturday, which was pretty much when dim sum is almost over. So, we were pretty much eating the leftovers in the push carts. They also did make some dishes fresh for us. The food was okay and we had a good meal. The dish that I remember the most is the crispy durian roll. I'm a huge fan of durian, but it's rare to find anything durian flavored usually, so this was exciting. And it was good. The outside dough was very thin and crispy, but a bit oily. They made this dessert for us fresh. This place is very big compared to Ocean Harbor, but I personally preferred Ocean Harbor better. But the pros of this place is that they have parking and hopefully there will be more seating if it's busy. But I'm willing to give this place another try during their busy dim sum time. Maybe the food will be better when we won't be stuck eating last crusty and cold dishes. Will update this review if I ever go back again. Lesson of the day: Don't go to dim sum in the afternoon. Try to go when they open or during lunch hours. :)

We are visiting Philly and stopped by for some dim sum around 1:30 in the afternoon and were seated right away, no wait at all. I love the traditional push carts; they give the place such a nostalgic vibe. Of course that means you'll have the push carts ladies always coming by to ask if you want more and more and more! You'll just have to let them know no is no when you've had enough. The food was solid overall. Our favorites were the shrimp rice rolls and the beef balls. We also ordered the beef offal, and I was pleasantly surprised that they gave multiple pieces of spleen, usually you only get one, so that was a nice bonus. The tripe was a little tough, but everything else hit the spot.

Grand Palace is the reopening of what our family used to know as Maxim, a big old school classic chinese banquet and dim sum restaurant. A bunch of my family came to trial a lot of the dinner and banquet style items as a possible venue for a family member's wedding, and whill the space was large and the menu had all of the classics, the food and prices weren't quite as good as we remembered. The menu is big as expected, with a mix of American Chinese stuff like Orange chicken or Beef and broccoli but more importantly a big list of classic Cantonese dishes from fried rice to wonton noodle soup to chinese barbecued meats to sizzling beef on hot platter to whole fried or steamed fish. The food all looked right and came out reasonably fast, but the flavors were hit or miss and the portions were not that satisfying considering the price point and family style set up. A few misses specifically were the steamed fish which is featured in most of their banquet set menus - it's a classic you'll see in most old school Cantonese restaurants, and while it came out looking nice, it seemed to be oversteamed with the fish meat a little tougher and not as light and moist as usual, and the sweet soy sauce it came with was just alright; also, it was upwards of $50-60 which is much higher than expected for the area. I don't remember which, but I think they also did that with one of the other dishes we ordered. Also, we ordered what we thought was the standard "large" or "family" size portion of the crabmeat fish maw soup, but they didn't tell us that they multiplied the portion as well as the price to accomodate our table of ~10, so intead of paying the usual ~$20 it was multiple times that. While we would understand if they discussed with us when ordering, there was no mention of that in the menu or when ordering, which is to be frank very inappropriate and dishonest. Other dishes - Braised soft noodles: also featured in the banquet menus so we wanted to try it - soft but lacking flavor and addins, honestly ok as a vehicle like rice to eat with other dishes but not worth on its own - Beef short ribs in black pepper sauce: tasted alright but a small portion - Clams with diced pork: one of the better dishes, sauteed well and the pork adds a nice flavor - Salted fish fried rice: also one of the better dishes, solid wok hei smoky flavor - Shrimp lo mein: basic, not bad just not very impressive, pretty oily like you'd get in a takeout place - Steamed oysters: quite tasty, with a nice ginger scallion sweet savory soy sauce but at $9 each (so $54 for an order of 6), not that great of a deal - Fried jumbo shrimp with walnut in cream sauce: nice size shrimp, tasty cream sauce which is a bit heavy for my taste but that's the traditional preparation so I can't complain about that, was not a big portion for over $20 with a good amount of broccoli on the plate as filler Overall, the place as all the right dishes you'd expect and is can easily accommodate your family or whatever size group, but at this price point and with quality of food you can definitely find better around the area.

The worst place I have ever been, stuff so rude, I have never been treated with such un respect as the staff there. I did decor for a party there and the staff hide/stole my things, they give me back a few things from the back room but I'm still missing a lot of things. When I was picking up some of my decorations from the stage they removed the stairs and let me jumping and hoping up to go on the stage and down, it was such a miserable way to treat a person, Shame on them for being so rude.

G P R is a very large restaurant right off of Washington Ave, a few blocks from the Italian Market... They have a very selection of your standard variety of dim sum which which definitely satisfy everyone's dim sum cravings...The restaurant is very nice inside with enough table, and trolley services to keep the rotation of carts moving along, but you may have get one of the table servers to go over and kick start the trolly pushers since they do like to get involved with their cellphones...

Looking for good dim sum? Here's your spot! Looking for delicious authentic Chinese? Yup, it's here too. I even celebrated my bday here. Space is huge and I've never had to wait to be seated. My go to items are: Salted fish fried rice - this is probably the best in the Philly area. It's loaded with a ton of fish and the dish is so flavorful Beef chow fun with gravy (or wet) - I not a big fan of stir fry so I always get the saucy one. Love love! Tiny white fish - I'm not exactly sure if the name but it's these lil sliver fishes that's fried and salted. My entire family always have to order 2 of these.

Best dim sum around the area. Love that this restaurant still has the dim sum cart ladies showcasing the food. Philadelphia Chinatown does not have good dim sum places anymore. Everything seems to be made fresh and packed full of flavor. My favorite is the snowcap char siu bun, but for some reason it had a strong alcohol taste to it this time around. Very spacious, huge place, and a ton of tables!

Is there a dim sum buffet price? Someone told me it was something like $30/$35 per person for dim sum 11-2pm is that right? If we get there at 1/1:15 will they stop bringing out the food right at 2 and not make fresh?

Is there a surcharge for using a credit card?

Yes, by giving cash payments a 4% discount if you pay with a credit card you are not getting the discount so it's really a charge

I do prefer the shrimp to be more plump & flavorful, & my favorite ones tend to have sauces other than soy to drizzle on. My trio of items were a steal at barely $20. Nom Wah is an excellent pick for quality dim sum at rock-bottom prices. I arrived early to a mostly-empty restaurant which allowed their staff to be extra attentive. The waiter described what sauces & dishes he was placing on my table, & the waitress offered to fill my water bottle before I left, as it was a 90° day. A lovely first impression!

The sticky rice in leaf had a good consistency although small with minimal ingredients. The shrimp dumplings are a staple but maybe too much flour which made the outer layer too doughy and chewy. The pork dumplings are good although smaller and tasted more like the frozen variety. Service was slow although there was only one waitress for the several tables. She did fill my water but I had to ask. And seemed to be somewhat frugal when I asked for extra napkins and only received ONE?!? She did come back later and gave me one additional napkin without being prompted. The biggest advantage for this place is it offered shrimp rolls but there are many other options available nearby.

We ended up having to move another table that had just seated to get our preferred table sizes next to each other, but the staff accommodated it with some back-and-forth. Once we were there, there were carts going around. Enough to be regularly getting food without being too interrupted, but would have liked to have a few more options every once in a while. We also requested some Chinese broccoli early on in the meal, but it came out pretty close to the end. Seems like a la carte orders are not handled in a timely way during dimsum hours. Otherwise, dimsum food is standard quality, as good as expected, but nothing too wow-ing. Solid for the price and the vibes. It ain't too fancy here, but a solid choice for dimsum if you're craving it.

Food is ok, has certainly decreased in quality after COVID and is more expensive. There are other dim sum places within a few blocks that are much better quality. As others have said, the situation with their staff demanding 15-20% tip has made it so I will not come here again. A tip is not legally required. It is only legally required to cover the cost of your food as stated on the bill. I think the BBB needs to be contacted to investigate their practices surrounding tips and almost harassing customers into paying more than they wish. In addition, they have loud trucks every day disrupting the quiet street behind. Many elderly live there and are woken up by the loud beeping from the truck alarms, as well as trash truck coming VERY early and waking up residents. No consideration for those who live right there. I will be contacting the city about this issue as there was a similar problem in Fishtown and now that restaurant is no longer allowed to have trucks outside of reasonable hours disturbing residents. The trucks are also TOO large to safely turn into their loading station and people park their SUVs making the space even smaller. They constantly case a problem with traffic blockages because of the trucks unable to turn into the loading dock.

This place immediately came to mind after I read the reviews, and I ordered takeout tonight. I am very pleased to say that this was an amazing experience! I opted to do fairly simple dim sum, mainly because a restaurant that has "dim sum" in its name should shine in this category. I was able to place my order online, and had the scallion pancake, the pork, soup, dumplings, the chicken and shiitake dumplings, and the shrimp shu mai. The order was prepared, extremely fast, but very attentively. The packaging was thoughtful and protective, without being wasteful. They included a small container of delicious black vinegar/soy for dipping, and some chopsticks. All of the dishes were fantastic! My favorite was probably the shrimp dumplings, and I was happy that it was two for one night. Everything tasted very fresh and well-made. The seasoning was spot on, without being overly salty. My only regret was that after going to pick these up, I noted that the inside of the establishment appeared to be quite quaint and comfortable, and would definitely recommend that people check this place out for dine in options. The staff were very friendly, and made the pick up experience a positive one. So, if you're in the area and really want to have some dim sum, I would definitely recommend this place. I will most definitely be back in the future!!

I regrettably went on Valentines with my boyfriend after the Barnes. My food was so bad that my mood was negatively impacted (seriously). Stay away from any of the soups/ramens, the broth is exactly the same flavorless base for every soup. I'd stick with appetizers. I got the worst thing I've ever ordered at a restaurant here: Tom Kha Seafood Soup, it was supposed to be spicy but it was just sweet with no flavor at all. Nothing like any other Asian spicy seafood soups I've had before, lacking any normal amount of seafood (hardly any), and weird uncooked veggies, like huge sliced raw tomato bits. I ate the small amount of seafood out of it and left the rest. It was hardly edible. The scallion pancakes were also the most underwhelming I've ever had. I usually fight for the last piece but me and my boyfriend left half of it uneaten. No flavor or crisp. Seemed frozen and reheated, not fresh. The soup dumplings were the only good thing we ordered and they were just fine, nothing amazing. Additionally, there was a very small amount of them to our order. The Vietnamese beef soup was ok but very below average, nothing good that I'd recommend ordering, same bland broth. I really wanted to like this place and I usually never give out one star reviews, but it was truly bad and the ratings on it are clearly inflated and not reflective of its food quality. Small amounts of bad food for a price you could get much better things elsewhere. I'd rather have gone to Wawa than gone here (and I did after because I was still hungry).
