Saved on Yelp for a year after seeing it on TikTok. The decor is very maximalist and nostalgic, but unfortunately the inside felt dusty, dingy, and not well maintained once you really looked around. The food also didn't match the menu photos. I ordered a diced ham scramble with homestyle potatoes. The ham in the photo looked sautéed with some char, but in person it tasted more parboiled/warmed than actually cooked on the grill. The potatoes had an odd enchilada-style seasoning and were inconsistent, some were cold and chewy while others tasted fresh. A second dish we ordered came with hash browns, they were dry and underseasoned. The biscuits tasted more like sheet-pan biscuits than homemade. We also tried the "famous" coffee cake (lemon poppyseed flavor that day), but it was extremely tart to the point it made your mouth pucker. My friend and I have breakfast here about 3 to 4 times a month occasionally stop in for lunch. Also we've always enjoyed it. We enjoyed the servers. However, at our last visit, we found quite a different atmosphere from the two young women that were there one that kept apologizing because she was new and didn't know the routines. The other was very talkie about her forthcoming baby, which was what we engaged in until she made a statement that she felt everyone that wanted to move to America should and I agreed, as long as they do it legally from them on the atmosphere from this woman was totally changed cold, ignoring and aloof. My friend and I kept noticing how loud the music was and that it was not the normal what we were used to in the diner. I went over and asked the young lady if she could please change the music and she said what's wrong you don't like "rockabilly" I said, evidently not. I have known about Nancy's for quite some time because it is one of the famous diners that are dotted along former Route 66. There are many in the area and I would say that Nancy May's is one of the better ones. We stopped in for our first time this past weekend and had a really nice experience. It was our server's first day on the job and she was extremely sweet and did a great job and so did the kitchen. Everything that we ordered came out very fast and just as we requested. It's in a small shopping center so there is plenty of free parking right in front. They don't have any outdoor seating and inside is pretty small but in a cozy way. For our first visit, we wanted to start with some of their bakery items so we chose the Cinnamon Roll and the Coffee Cake. They were pretty good, but you could tell they were not homemade and were very cakey. The store bought pastries never seem to be as good as homemade to me. This was not my favorite part of the meal. For my breakfast, I chose the Country Fried Steak and thought it was fantastic. It was not overly cooked and the eggs were done perfectly, I was a big fan of the dish overall. The chicken fried steak and flapjack combos were both good, but the service was even better. Our server was friendly and efficient. Breakfast Burrito is delicious! The red salsa goes great with it and tastes fresh. The lemon pancake is amazing! I would get the regular syrup on the side so that the lemon isn't overpowering. My friends ordered eggs, hash browns and toast. Food tasted fine. Problem was as I finished my French toast I immediately had to use the rest room. I had the most awful explosive diarrhea in my life. It's one thing to advertise as a 50's diner, set up the motif, play the music, and dress the part, it's another thing to actually deliver on the promise; this place delivers! Set in a small strip business area it stands out as a go to place for breakfast, they also offer lunch but I haven't tried yet. Walking in felt like I was going back in time, the music on point, good mix at the right volume, combined with the right colors and decorations to convince one that this is what it must have been like to live in the 50's. After I settled in my server, dressed straight out of Peggy Sue's wardrobe closet, offered coffee and water which I graciously accepted and then proceeded to take in the menu. Straight forward and simple, I chose eggs and bacon, hash browns and a half order of biscuits and gravy. Food arrived in about 5 minutes and the first thing that caught my eye was how creamy the gravy looked; first bite revealed it was a good as it looked. The biscuits were fresh and fluffy and stood up to the slathering of creamy gravy and paired perfectly with the rest of my meal. The bacon is made crispy and the hash browns as well. A fun experience and a good meal, I look forward to exploring the menu further. The final check for me is always the restroom, I think it is a reflection of how much the owner or manager cares. I don't get the hype. This place is located in a strip mall off Arrow and Archibald. The decor is overwhelming with lots of kitschy elements, not the classic 50s diner look that you would expect from the name. Majority of clientele is over 70 and seems to genuinely enjoy coming here. Service is above average and all servers pay attention to customers, which is a pleasant departure from other places where the other servers will ignore you. The food, however, was not exciting at all. The portion size and prices are ok, but the quality and flavor were lacking. The chicken fried steak had the batter peel off, the gravy was lacking flavor, the biscuits were bland, but worst of all were the hash browns, which were soaking in grease. I entered Nancy's for some breakfast. In the past 2 yrs I have had weight loss surgery so I do not eat a full meal. I asked for a kids meal and I was told no. But that I could order half a meal which was not in the menu. This is the first time I have been told no I could not have a kids meal. This little diner is super cute! Kind of a hole in the wall that I'm glad I discovered. Getting my windows tinted across the street and the "cafe" signage caught my eye so I walked over. Everyone including Cindy was so nice and welcoming to me and I got to stay and work on my laptop while I wait. The Christmas music is very homey, the decor inside is super cute/retro and I would definitely return for breakfast when in the area. As for the meal... I ordered an omelette with added ingredients (spinach, cheese, sausage, tomatoes, avocado) and it came with fruit and biscuits and gravy on the side. With OJ it came out to just under $20. We had a terrible time on a quite Sunday. We sat outside where we were promptly served coffee. Then nothing. From the outside, we saw other patrons enter the restaurant after us and be served.
