This place embodies everything that a Midwest, Chicago style, saying melk and pellow instead of milk and pillow type of joint that I love in the burbs. The walls are decked with various forms of memorabiliasoftball team sponsorships, united way plaques from the 80's and who knows where they got that decor. Ambiance aside, this place has incredible pizza and pasta. I have been here numerous times and am a huge fan of the oohey-goohey lasagna with the mozz melted/toasted just right on top of a pile of meaty-cheesy-goodness. To top it off, the salad bar is really fresh and lots of veggies including breadsticks. From what I remember, their sandwiches are also worth trying. The staff at Golf Rd. has been friendly to me and took time to make sure what I was ordering would be best for my family. I certainly hope Yelp does not take down this review. This post is from June 29 of this year. I will be picking up more pizzas today from Nancys. Back in about 1981 a girlfriend introduced me to stuffed broccoli pizza from Nancys. I thought, "what who eats pizza with broccoli"? I said I would "try it". Well was I ever pleasantly surprised! Between the sauce, the seasoning, the huge amount of delicious cheese and the broccoli I now have been "trying it" for about 38 years! I have tried other ingredients over the years but my favorite is the stuffed broccoli. Things have changed over the years. I married the girlfriend, divorced her and moved to Lafayette Indiana but I must thank her for introducing me to Nancys stuffed pizza which they are famous for. When I visit a son who lives close by I make sure we dine at Nancys AND I usually order 3 large stuffed broccoli pizzas to go. It is WELL worth driving almost 2 and a half hours to see my son AND to pick up the BEST stuffed pizza in the Chicagoland area. I wish there was a Nancys pizza closer to me. Lafayette Indiana does NOT have stuffed broccoli pizza or anything close to it. I must say the employees at Nancys are top notch. While I have waited for my to go pizzas they let me sit at the employee table and have offered me a soft drink while I wait. I feel I am part of their "family". Very decent people. I wish I could eat their pizza more. I have thought of ordering it online as they do ship pizzas but the broccoli option is not available. They ship only the cheese, pepperoni and sausage pizzas. I will continue to get my stuffed broccoli pizzas and bring them home to Indiana. I have shared some slices which are HUGE with coworkers and EVERYONE has loved the pizza. Always stop by Nancy's when I'm in Chicago!! Hands down the best stuffed pizza in the city. I have been to several of their locations in and out of the state, but the location on Gulf RD just makes it the best and they have a great salad bar. The service is also really great and the restaurant itself is very clean. Even ordered a few times to the hotel and it's always arrived hot and intact. Nancy's Pizza is a classic Italian diner with that "old school" feeling. To me, it is very similar to La Villa in Chicago but it is a smaller dining area. The waitress was very hospitable and friendly. I had the tomato cream vodka-infused sauce and gnocchi which was heavenly to the taste!!!!! My family had pizza. Again, it's your standard independent Italian neighborhood restaurant. I enjoyed it because they served good pizza and comfort food. Nancy's was pretty standard as far as pizza went. Onion rings were okay. Kinda soggy, pizza wasn't bad but the cheese was kind of rubbery and the wings were dry. Not really an awesome place. Tried this place on a whim because of the overall positive reviews. I was in the mood for a submarine, but at 10 PM, nothing in the area was open. I ordered the "Panino Alla Rosa Sandwich" which consists of Italian Salami, Ham, Provolone Cheese & the typical trimmings on french bread. Needless to say I wasn't impressed at all. The French bread wasn't soft as I was hoping, and I had to take some pretty ferocious bites in order to get through it. The salami was a bit hard (too hard) and the edges of the provolone were dried out (meaning the cheese either wasn't properly wrapped or it was the dried out end/top slice). The overall taste was super bland. It honestly didn't taste like much of anything. Wouldn't recommend. My Mom ordered "The Godfather Sandwich" which consists of Italian Roast Beef and Mozzerella Cheese on Garlic Bread. She didn't care for it, and it was just meh to me. It had more flavor than my sandwich, that's for sure, but I didn't really like the spicy italian sausage taste of the beef. Lastly, our table also ordered a deep dish pizza (thank Goodness) and we all enjoyed that much more. They aren't cheap on the ingredients, that's for sure. The mozzarella is REAL mozzarella and is super ooey gooey when you slice into it. It's also really saucy on top, which is great.. since I've my share of dry deep dish pizzas (gross). Taste-wise, I'd compare it to Lou Malnati's. It has that sweetness to it like Lou Malnati's and isn't as bland as Giordano's. I really liked it. Will I go back? Sure, for the pizza. Whenever I am in the area to visit my dad's family, I often times find myself enjoying Nancy's delectable food with my grandparents either as take-out or at the actual restaurant. As many have mentioned, the salad bar is out of this world. I like that it's in a more traditional family style than the typical American salad bar; that is why the cuts of veggies are thicker than is customary at a pedestrian establishment. One of the reasons my grandpa comes here is because what they do is in the Italian familial vein. Food is to be savored and enjoyed, and not everyone eats salad in the way most of us view it here in the States. Its been 3 1/2 years since I first reviewed this place, and it hasn't changed much - except that it seems to have improved a bit. The Stuffed Pizza is still fabulous, and a bit less expensive than the "Big 3" Chicago Style places. A "Large" 4 item combo is about $22. The menu of non-pizza items is extensive, and a real deal. No prices have gone up since my last review, and the daily deals are still a real steal - the Veal dishes are still only $10 on Saturday ($17 otherwise) and are first rate. The Linguine with clam sauce has real clams - in shells and on top (as well as others mixed in). It is still a neighborhood place that is a favorite of the over 50 set, and the staff is both friendly and very efficient. Well worth the time it takes me to get there. read more

It was our first time there, so we decided to get the pizza. Their menus claim that they'd received an award for their stuffed pizza, but we got the thin crust instead. So you know, their pizza sausage is all pork, and they put big chunks of it on the pie (very nice). The pizza was very good. Comparable to some other places I could think of, but definitely stands out far above frozen or takeout/delivery quality pizzas. My only complaint about it would be that the slices towards the outside didn't have much cheese, so all the toppings slid off as soon as I bit into them. (I prefer my pizzas to stay together when I eat them). The atmosphere is friendly and really has a genuine, Italian feel. It also gives off the feeling of being family-owned and run. Crust = very crunchy Cost = $$ (we only got a 14" pizza with 4 toppings and it cost a total of $21) I would definitely go there again and would also recommend it to you to try. To get there, you"re better off driving west on Golf, thus making a right turn into the parking lot. Lot is shared with the rest of the stores, but it doesn't appear to be a real busy strip of stores, so parking should be find. read more

Paying $14 for x-large pizza with two toppings sounds great to me. Their pasta portions are kind of small but really good as well. Chicken parmigiana is delicious as well. The Chicago Style stuffed deep dish pizza here is to die for...and I thought my favorite was another place. They are consistently perfectly cooked, with tons of cheese and the toppings of your choosing. On their half price pizza night, you can actually get the deal for carry out, which is rare. The staff is friendly all the time, talking to customers and making them feel at home. The owner is there every time as go. He is a nice guy, spending time talking to regulars and making sure all tables are happy. Salad bar is always fresh and delicious with many choices of items. There is a bread bar too, (just what we need with bready pizza, but still delicious) which has both savory and sweet varieties. Forgettable at best. I stopped by in to celebrate a friend's birthday with a few of my other friends one evening. The atmosphere is great with a family vibe. Also, the service by the host was very professional and courteous. However, the service by the busboy was just plain rude and irritating. We had finished eating and were enjoying the setting and reminiscing when he shooed us away with over an half hour left before closing. The table was already clear! I was pretty annoyed but didn't want to make a scene and just left. I'd ignore that bit if the pizza was worthwhile but it was not.
