This restaurant has the best Thai food I have ever had in NJ. This is better than 95% of the Thai food I have had in NYC and LA. I ordered there's curry, green curry, Thai fried basil, satay , and roti. All the dishes were amazing. They definitely use quality fresh ingredients and take time and effort in their preparation. All the intricate flavors you want in Thai food were there. The presentation was very good. They used fresh flowers to accent the dish. The decor is very stylish. It wouldn't look out of place in NYC or LA. This is a great place for a date. The restaurant was spotlessly clean. Service was very attentive and friendly. Had a very enjoyable time last night celebrating my birthday. Very nice atmosphere, seated in a booth that was reserved in advance. The owner/manager/chef Phensri personally greeted us and was very friendly. Service was excellent. We had the Thai spring roll appetizer, Tom yam prawn soup, sweet & sour beef, Thai basil stir fried beef and 2 orders of drunken noodle with chicken. All meals were delicious and did not disappoint. Prices were slightly high but worth it. Leftover containers are 50 cents each additional. Highly recommend this restaurant. read more

Inconsistent. One night we were here, the curry, pad see ew, and other dishes were great. Last 2 times we ordered takeout from here, everything was dry, lacking flavor. Ribs. My entire family is obsessed with the ribs. There's so much ambiance here, and it reminds me of a Malaysian restaurant I used to frequent in NYC. Get the Indian roti, mango beef, any of the soups and any of the curries. The menu has changed a bit over the years but still delicious. read more

Food was excellent! Like most have said, the menu is on the pricier side but it's worth it. The Tom Kha Gai soup is one of the best I've ever had. If you can wait for an hour for your cold food to get served, while door-dash orders seem to get the preferred treatment then this is your place to come. Reservation for 6 at 6:00 arriving at 5:50 on a Sunday evening. With no one else in the restaurant it should have been a nice easy evening birthday dinner. But NOOO. After the 3rd time asking about our food we're told that they are waiting for 1 more dish but could that they could bring the other dishes out if we wanted them. I guess they kept the fished dishes out in the open because every single dish was not even lukewarm any more. That was enough for all of us. One of the best Malaysian places I've tried in Jersey. I came here with a friend on a Friday evening and walked in with no wait. We ordered the roti prata, Thai coconut fried rice, and lemongrass grilled pork chop. Everything was AMAZING. Throughout the entire meal, we couldn't get over how delicious everything was. We started off with the roti prata and were mind-blown by the flavor of the curry sauce, the tenderness of the chicken and perfect crispiness of the roti. I cannot emphasize enough how PERFECT the roti was -- it seemed like it was double-layer of roti and was unlike any other roti I've ever tried. Unfortunately for $10, it does only come with one roti. The coconut fried rice and lemongrass grilled pork chop were also amazing. The rice had the perfect coconut flavor and was more on the moist side. It came with shrimp and squid in the rice. The pork chop was also grilled to perfection and tossed in a delicious sauce. As other reviews had mentioned, Pokok is slightly more expensive that other competitors. However, this upcharge is definitely correlated with an increase in quality and is definitely worth it. Everything just tastes a slight more gourmet and makes a huge difference. To top it all off, the owners also gave us these fans for our phones! Super random (lol) but it was so cute! read more

For appetizers we had the Indian Roti with curry chicken, fried fish cakes, and shrimp spring rolls. The Indian Roti with curry chicken tasted horrible! Skip that! The fried fish cakes were ok, but the dipping sauce had no flavor! The shrimp spring rolls were below average! For entrees we had the pineapple shrimp fried rice which was ok, but it had some nasty tasting raw pieces of fish it! I'm not sure why because it didn't state there would be any fish in it in the description. The other entree we had was the stir fried chicken with cashew nut which was ok/decent. My guess is that the owners changed over. Once greeted by the friendly owner who oversaw the quality of the food has now given way to who knows what.. No issues with the server staff of young people who try their best to be warm, inviting and eager to please. But who knows what the hell is going on with the cooking staff in the kitchen. Red Curry Duck once was wonderfully prepared with succulent pieces of duck in an authentic curry has given way to an overly salty and pasty gravy like sauce with duck skin crackle pork-rind like pieces of splintery duck jerky. Absolutely, a shame how a once popular restaurant where we enjoyed eating has now become so poor in the food that is served. I absolutely love Thai food so I was super excited when I saw this place. I stumbled upon it when I was on my way to grab lunch from Panera Bread (PB). which is right next door. I skipped PB and ordered takeout from this place instead and I'm so glad that I did. I've been here twice (each time for lunch on a weekday) there's never any other customers so there's never a wait for service. The first time I ordered red curry chicken over white rice. My tastebuds were over joyed with happiness. The dish was so well seasoned and the medley of flavors were outstanding. On my second trip I ordered the mango chicken. It was good, just a tad too sweet for my liking but still very tasty. The decor is beautiful, almost romantic even. Seems like this would be a great date-night place. Pad Thai, green curry (my fav), chicken satay, drunken noodles, dumplings, they were put of shrimp shumai the last two times we were there which is a bummer but try the green papaya salad , coconut rice and the Indian roti they are always delish..we always add an extra peanut sauce because it is so delish actually all of their sauces and soups like Tom Yum are very authentic..we have come to love this place over our go to Thai in Atlantic Highlands. I stopped here during a freak November snow storm which left so many jersey commuters in dire straits. I waited out the storm and the employees were incredibly gracious... I was so cold when I arrived and my waitress brought me a hot cup of complimentary ginger tea. I order Tom ka gai (chicken coconut soup) and not only was it beautiful but delicious! Hot(temp), sweet and spicy! And the chicken with green curry and coconut milk was delicious! The ambiance was great and service was perfect. I'm giving Pokok a 4 star rating for a very nice first visit with my family, even though my wife and kids went a second time without me and had mixed feelings about the food. I visited about a month ago and thought the food was pretty good and loved the ambiance and great service. That day we ordered Pad kee mao, Nasi Lemak, Lemongrass chicken chop, Massaman curry bread bowl, & Roti Prata. I thought the Nasi Lemak was delicious, and after sampling the other dishes, I thought they were all good albeit pricey. My wife and kids also liked the food. My family came without me a second time and didn't like the lemongrass chicken chop the second time because it was over cooked. I'm not aware what the other dishes were but my wife gave me a lukewarm review on passing. I'm not sure if that was just inconsistency but after our first meal, we loved Pokok and said it would be part of our restaurant rotation. The owner came to visit us a couple times and asked us about the food, and even provided fidget spinners for the kids to play with, which they ultimately got to take home as a gift! Pokok menu has a variety of mostly Thai, Malaysian, and some south asian and vietnamese dishes. The menu is very large - it's almost diner like! The restaurant has a resort feel and I loved sitting in their booths. I would love to comeback again and I'll update my next experience. read more

Driving up, we weren't sure if they were even open yet, because there didn't seem to be anyone there. Walking in, still no one but the staff, but it seems this place didn't advertise well because they were up and running, just no one knew about it. My parents knew of the place because the frequent Panera next door and had been excited to try it. We ordered a lot of dishes--some at the recommendation of a friendly child who seemed to be one of the owner's kids. We got a noodle soup, two different types of curry (red and green), the fish special, sugar cane shrimp, and green beans. The fish, though smaller than expected for the price, was well presented. My only qualm was that it came out later than the other dishes. It seemed that they weren't very on top of timing because the dishes came out one by one. My father thorougly enjoyed his noodle soup and my mother and I both liked our curries, though I wished that they had asked us for how spicy we would like it, because it was definitely more on the conservative side. My favorite was probably the beans with ground meat and the sugar cane shrimp--which are mashed/blended shrimp formed around pieces of sugar cane, yum! For dessert, we order the mango sticky rice, and some dessert we had no idea what it was, besides something with taro. but again, couldn't go wrong. It ranges between 12.99 to 14.99. When going for lunch I like to spend no more than $10 unless it comes with additional items then I don't mind spending a little more. I ordered the Singapore fried kuay teow, which is 12.99. It came with a small salad with a peanut dressing. The food was great but pricey for a lunch special. I wouldn't mind if maybe it came with a spring roll or another small app. .96 cents more I could of just gotten the dinner/main course size (hopefully a bigger portion). Craving for authentic and tasty Thai flavors wasnt fulfilled. The roti canai was crispy and the best paratha I was served (some restaraunt give you soggy) but the curry lacked in salt. The green curry fried rice tasted nothing like green curry. Red curry was bland (wierd how I needed to get soy sauce to add salt bc usually these type of cuisines are bursting in umami and sodium lol) The drunken noodles were actually decent and only thing I enjoyed. Ambiance is really nice and it's byob but surprisingly for Asian the food was very lackluster. Got take out here last Saturday after not having gone for a long time. I'm sorry to say I was disappointed - however let me point out that I am not your average Thai patron. Let's face it most dishes here in the US are "Americanized" so that they are more appealing to out palate's. I like my Thai more authentic - which is what this used to be with the original owner. At this point I have a feeling this place changed hands again because it is even less authentic than it had been after the original owner sold after covid lockdowns ended. I got some pad see ew - made with EGG NOODLES! WHY? Rice noodles too expensive? Or was this an attempt to move further away from the authentic? It was edible but nowhere near as good as it could have been with proper ingredients. My GF got a ginger shrimp dish which she liked OK - and we shared some vegetarian spring rolls that were also OK. I will NOT be going back since as I said I like my Thai as close to authentic as possible. If you are new to Thai or are OK with a "watered down" culinary experience then by all means do try it - it's an easy on ramp into Thai cuisine - after trying a few dishes explore other venues as there definitely are better that restaurants out there. read more

My daughter ate at Pokok a couple of times and she was in the area yesterday so she decided to get food for me to try. I ordered take out for lunch the following: 1. Thai Spring Rolls (4 PCs.) - the rolls with spicy plum sauce were delicious. 2. Vietnamese Spring Rolls (3 PCs.) - the rolls were not like the usual Vietnamese Spring roll (summer roll), but it was still delicious and refreshing as it was full of mixed vegetables. Each roll had 4 pieces of shrimps. It came with a spicy plum sauce. The sauce was good but I liked the peanut sauce that usually comes with the roll better. It's supposed to have steamed meat but I didn't see any meat inside. 3. Grilled Squid - I didn't like it that much as it tasted like it was boiled instead of grilled. It came with spicy honey seafood sauce which tasted like spicy plum sauce. 4. Basil Stir-Fried Seafood - it was good but it was missing mussels and mushrooms. It only had shrimps and squid plus it was not spicy at all. Overall I just gave 3 stars as there are other Thai, Asian Fusion, Vietnamese Restaurants with better tasting food. If the rolls were not good, it would have been 2 stars. Maybe they should remove Asian Fusion and focus on Thai Vietnamese food to be better. My daughter picked up the food and she ordered Thai Iced Coffee (don't know how it taste). Total bill was $75.92. The Basil Stir-Fried Seafood was too expensive ($25.95) for missing ingredients! read more

Fantastic food and service. The competition in this area is getting so fierce and pokok keeps the bar that high. You know the place is legit when the owner doesn't speak any English. Under their watch, the food that leaves the kitchen does not Disappoint. I recommend the papaya salad. Very refreshing and it tastes like Southeast Asia ... whatever that means. I also had the lemon grass wings and they were perfectly cooked. Also, the front of house manager was very fun to talk to and had a great personality, something that is necessary in that position.
