One of my favorite local spots for Thai food is Narin Thai. My signature favorites to order from them are the Narin Thai fried rice and the Thai spring rolls. The rice comes with shrimp and chicken and also has cashew nuts, pineapple, egg, onions, scallions, and green peas. The Thai spring rolls are a lightly fried goodness stuffed with glass noodles and vegetables and served with a heavenly sweet peach sauce. Sometimes, I have to get two orders of the spring rolls because my fiancé adores them and I don't want to share mine. Covid has affected this business in that it is only take-out for now and that there is no more lunch menu, for the time being. When picking up your food, you must pay by cash or check only. I usually just bring a check with me. Once your order is ready, they set it outside on the little table in front of their entrance door. I can't say enough great things about Narin Thai. I was very disappointed in my first (and last) experience with this establishment. 3 big issues: #1 - NO delivery. #2 - I thought they mistakenly gave us lunch sized portions for dinner. The meals were in small 6" white round containers. I had an evening meeting in Newton and I was so excited to come back to Narin Thai. As with last time it was great! I started with the seafood dumpling soup. Nice light vegetables broth and delicious dumplings containing shrimp. I also had a seafood salad. Many nice greens, including mint and cilantro, asparagus, scallops, crab and shrimp in a slightly spicy sauce. I finished with more seafood, cashews and more perfectly cooked vegetables. I probably should have just gone all vegi as that's my usual fare. It was very good just too many seafood dishes in one sitting. I definitely recommend Narin. For locals it's BYOB. read more

First time ordering take out from here. Ordered my food with medium spice level, but what I got was no spice at all. Small portions for dinner time main course and even smaller side of rice. Overall review, it's just bland Thai food. Probably won't order from here again. Gave this place a second try a year later and it still is lacking. Ordered takeout, spring rolls with extra sauce and garlic chicken for $17 before tip. What I got....3 spring rolls with half a ramekin of sauce(not extra like I ordered and not even enough for the third roll!) and a small round dish of garlic chicken and veggies and the tiniest rice container I have ever been given from any Asian take out restaurant. Honestly I ordered from here by mistake thinking it was the other Thai place in town. When I drive by this one, it looks closed. I live nearby and am a local. Delicious and authentic food that defies your expectations for Thai food. It stands out from your typical Thai restaurants by offering unique options and preparing staple dishes found in other Thai places differently, but don't let the unfamiliarity keep you from trying the food. Love the Thai food (which isn't too sweet or bitter) and more! The noodles was very filling, generous with its toppings, and surprisingly flavorful for dry noodles. The owner of this restaurant is very nice as are the waiters. The food here is affordable, comes out quickly, and is great. Not to mention the interior of this restaurant is like a cozy hole in the wall type of casual place. The food here is simply exquisite! My wife and I have dined here many times and every time the food is phenomenal. I am frequent international traveler and a vegetarian and often rely on Thai as one of my healthy dining options. A fine dining gem in Sussex County! Score! The prices are reasonable. I have been here several times and love the chicken curry dishes. I have sampled some other meals and they are also tasty (spring rolls, fried rice meal, and some chicken/pineapple dish). The flavors melt in your mouth nicely. I love that you can custom order the level of spiciness. It's also nice that you can bring your own wine here if you so choose, with no corking fee. The only thing that is a bit bizarre about this place is that sometimes their restaurant hours are altered without warning (not sure if this is connected to restaurant customer volume). I know this because I have a friend who goes here a LOT, and despite this issue, keeps coming back again and again hoping they are open because the food is so delicious. If you are looking for a great meal and enjoy Thai/Indian food, you really should check Narin out! read more

There is still hope at finding good restaurants in the middle of nowhere! I'm very picky about my Thai but Narin Thai pleasantly surprised me. I got there as soon as it opened so I was the only one in the restaurant for my whole meal. The restaurant was dimly lit and would be intimate if I wasn't dining by myself =/...Anyway, I sat in the back of the corner; it was comfortable and clean. The waitresses were nice. I started with a Thai Iced Tea, which was a little watery for my liking but still good. I also ordered a chicken satay which was served differently than I've ever had it. I'm used to the chicken satay on sticks almost like a shish kebob but this one was stickless. The chicken was tender and it tasted wonderful. For my entree, I ordered the chicken pad thai which is my go to at any thai restaurant. It was good. I really hate fishy undertones in my pad thai but there was none in this one. It was a little sweet but I combatted that with the thai hot sauce. I finished the whole thing. For desert, I ordered the mango sticky rice which was PERFECT (like 5 stars perfect). The mangoes were sweet, ripe and cold and complemented the hot rice. It was a great experience. My favorite part about this restaurant was the small portions. It's a lot easier to order a 3-course meal when you're not shoving pounds of pad thai into your mouth. read more

I had no water at home due to a plumbing problem, tried calling this place for a lunch order but no one was answering despite being listed open. Ended up ordering takeout from elsewhere and tried this place again for dinner. However, this obnoxious bizarre woman finally answered screaming she didn't "want to talk" to me. It's shocking and disturbing! I don't know this person nor was it a personal call. She said, "never call me again" as if I or anyone would call a restaurant to TALK to her, lmao. Can't imagine wtf is wrong with this woman but she clearly doesn't understand her job role. Anyone calling to place a food order is NOT a personal call! Especially when the other person is unknown and nonexistent. This woman is seriously delusional to think anyone calling a restaurant's business number is trying to talk to her. It's absolutely disgusting behavior to attack and deny a person's basic rights, and that to by a business!!! I urge fellow community members and consumers to stay away from this place. Bleh. My pad Thai was, for some reason, very dry. I'm not sure how else to explain it. It didn't taste terrible but I didn't enjoy it and threw it out. Onto the sticky rice. Such a small small portion. It was also sort of like a squished rice patty. Obviously it's meant to be sticky and stick together but it shouldn't have looked like a hockey puck. This place is a GEM! If you're ever in the Newton NJ area and are looking for a really good meal then you've got to stop at Narin Thai. My family and I have been eating here.....pretty consistently for over a year....and the food is outstanding! I always order take out....as my kids are a pain in the butt when it comes to eating out. I'm a big fan of the Chicken Cashew....and my wife loves the Massaman Curry....and the kids always get the Pad Thai. This is my first yelp review and I am sorry that it is a negative one. I have lived in Newton for 21 years now and my son decided that for his birthday he would like to order from Narin Thai. Wonderful! I had wanted to try this place for some time but due to the terrible parking, I never made an effort. Here was the perfect opportunity. We perused their website and after looking at the extremely limited menu made some basic choices and ordered. Fast forward to the tiny portion of undercooked noodles and overcooked shrimp - I checked the receipt and discovered what their website claims cost $10, I was charged $12 for. I called hoping there was some mistake and the young man I spoke with informed me that shrimp was $2 extra. As of this writing the Pad Thai on their webpage only offers shrimp and there is no mention of a surcharge. I invited him to look and he agreed - advising me that all other pages besides this one notified that there was an additional charge for shrimp. Okay, fine. Still dissatisfied, I asked what could be done to make this right. All I really wanted was an apology and maybe a $4 refund. He advised that he was very busy and he could consult with the chef (who is apparently also the owner) and call me back in half an hour. Okay, fine. 25 minutes later the young man called back. To his credit, he was polite and as professional as he could be. He asked if I wanted to speak to the chef/owner. I said okay and when put on the phone she immediately said "You not happy? You don't come back here any more. There is another restaurant in town. They have smaller shrimp. I'm sorry you no like my cooking". I tried to explain that beyond the sub-par meal, my real concern was that they were advertising one price online and charging another. She advised she "no do online". Still just looking for an apology (I gave up on the $4 refund, I just want decent customer service now) I asked if she thought this was okay. She said "No one complain, just you. You can go to other restaurant. I'm sorry you no like my cooking". I am not unfamiliar with Thai cuisine or culture. I am not unfamiliar with retail or the pressures of the service industry. Here I am, a first time customer who - despite being disappointed in quality - was willfully misled by their website. When I called looking for some degree of satisfaction, I was told to shop elsewhere in the future. Eat here if you want but I never will again. I was very disappointed when my boyfriend and I tried to get take out from Narin Thai tonight. We called to order and they told us they were too busy to place a to-go order right now but to call back in 20 minutes. A half hour later we stopped in (thinking they wouldn't refuse two people standing in front of them) and they straight out told us we could not place a to-go order for the fact that there is only one cook and it was too busy. Mind you they told us when we walked in that we could get a table for two. The food has always been good in the past but this just put a sour taste in our mouths. The first few times I went here I was very impressed. However, the last few times have been less pleasant. The waitress can be pretty rude, and they are not very flexible when it comes to lunch seatings (twice we were turned away, even though it was 15 minutes before the scheduled lunch was over). The food is very good, but not spicy at all. I requested my food "hot" and the waitress said "sure". It showed up and was very bland, with no spice, and I couldn't find a red pepper flake anywhere in my curry. It is BYOB, which is plus in my book. Great quality, fresh ingredients, great execution for cooking meat. I was impressed with the variety of vegetables in some of their standard Thai dishes that you won't see included at other places. Favorites are Massaman curry & their Pad Kra Prow (spicy basil chili sauce, peppers & onions, veggies, and a protein). I got them with chicken, which was flavorful, tender, and moist. Perfectly cooked chicken in my opinion. Same for the vegetables-crisp and crunchy. Their desserts are very tasty, too. The taro pudding was not what I was expecting when I saw "pudding," but that was a good thing. It was served over sticky rice with a coconut sauce over some taro pieces. Super tasty. Loved the textures. Definitely not a pudding. Their satay is good. I've had better, but it's still good. Overall, their whole menu has seemed to be very consistent and I have yet to be disappointed. Some lowlights: "we aren't making any more coffee for the night "?!, 10 minute wait just to talk to the hostess about a table.
