I've been meaning to get over here and try this place out and finally got here yesterday I have shopped at Natural Grocers in Austin, Dallas, and Amarillo and knew that I liked the store but hadn't gotten to this one until 2 days ago. I got away with only spending under $17 because I didn't need a lot of quantity since I'm just visiting in Mesa. There were a couple things I forgot to look for but the main issue is that the prices have gone up so much in the past three or four years since the last time I was in one that there was nothing I needed enough to spend that much more on it. Not their fault, everybody's prices have gone way up. If I'd seen something on sale that I needed I might have gotten it though . Part of the reason for coming here was that I saw somebody carrying one of their cute tote bags and it made me want to get one. I ended up getting two because the little elephant one was so cute. Their clearance rack had real good prices at half off so I got some sprouted whole-grain bread, some sour cream and some organic tortillas from there. I had to buy a bag of Basil just because it smells so good. I got some of their bulk ranch seasoning to go with the sour cream and one of those lavender sporks for three dollars, remembering that just a couple years ago they used to be $2. Ultimately I was happy with what I ended up with. And I have to say, when I smelled the wonderful aroma before I even walked into the store, I had that familiar feeling of being home because it smells like the other stores I had been to, the comforting aroma of herbs and spices and essential oils all mixed together. read more

I can't get enough of NG. From the inventory, sales, manager's specials, freebies, supplements & friendly service my visits are a good one. This is not a dedicated Vegan grocery store as they offer a sundry of plant based & animal derived products. The mix provides a great shopping experience for everyone. & the prices are spot on to my surprise as I was anticipating higher price points. 1000th 4 star review! (Well, more like 4.5 actually) Natural Grocers: The socially conscious grocery store! I love the idea. Every item is carefully picked to make sure it not only meets the highest quality standards, but is as environmentally and ethically responsible as possible. I had been to the Chandler location and liked their selection so I decided to stop by the Gilbert location on the way back home. Prices I saw compared to Sprouts were comparable, if not better, for items that I was looking for, including raw almonds and coconut oil. I was actually in the search for some wild boar meat. Looking on the Durham website Natural Grocers was one of the stores that carried it (Sprouts is another store that offers it). I hadn't seen it at Sprouts on my latest trip there so I was hoping to find it here. Unfortunately they didn't have it but they did have a small selection of other game meat by the same company (Venison, Elk, Bison). Prices for the venison and elk were considerably cheaper compared to Sprouts and it was 100% pure game meat as opposed to the 97%/3% beef at Sprouts. Service was great at check out. I love going to businesses where the employees are happy and genuinely love to be there. Be sure to bring your own bag if you don't want your goods packaged in a cut down cardboard box a la Costco style. Natural Grocers also has an intriguing rewards program that offers store credit when you reach a certain dollar amount, and store credits when you go to 5 of their free information sessions. I browsed through the list and they were all very health-oriented, eco-friendly type subjects. Overall I had a good experience here. I have driven past this location too many times and had never made it in. Finally decided too and was so glad I did! The inside is big and it was super easy to navigate. All the aisles and shelves were neatly organized and the bathroom was also clean. The cashier was friendly and checked us out quickly. I purchased some yogurt, kombucha, a bottle of aloe, and come coconut oil. I spent about $20. I was glad I stopped in. read more

We shopped at Natural Grocers for the first time today. You've read it all before. They have an amazing selection of vitamins and supplements. All the produce is organic. There isn't much selection when it comes to beef, poultry, etc. What they do have is grain-fed, no hormones, etc. The prices on almost everything are really high! But... I found some items that I bought at Sprouts recently that were on sale here for less. I found a kind of almond milk (Malk) that I couldn't find anywhere else except Whole Foods before coming to this store. And this store is closer to me so that's a good thing. The selection of some healthy brands is quite comprehensive here compared to Sprouts. The parking lot has plenty of spots, the cashier was friendly, an employee stopped to ask us if we needed help finding anything and yes, you have to bring your own bags. To think that some idiots left bad reviews because they don't provide bags (it says they don't provide bags right on the front door) says more about how dumb the average person is than about Natural Grocers. We like the store and plan to support them moving forward. That being said, their prices are too high for us to do anything other than buy items on sale or items others stores don't stock. read more

I decided to check them out after sprouts wouldn't allow me to shop there, due to me not wearing a mask. This place actually leaves it up to the customer to make that decision. I love the idea of Natural Grocers. They are committed to selling products that are organic and have no artificial colors/flavors/sweeteners, no partially hydrogenated oils, and no MSG, which is great if you don't like to check labels for ingredients. But getting to be lazy comes at a price...products here do not come cheap. If you don't enjoy spending $$$ - They have a rewards program that is fairly easy to use. However, you really have to be on top of the discounts to make them work for you. With a Trader Joe's and a brand new Sprouts right across the street, Natural Grocers needs to figure out something to help them stand out a bit more besides the higher cost. read more

I'm so glad to see a place like this open in Gilbert. I have a fear that it won't last long though if people are refusing to go because they don't have bags. I'm so glad to support a business that takes food seriously. I typically bring bags wherever I go because of the world plastic crisis... but some people just prefer what is convenient for them. I stopped in to get tea and found that Yogi Organic tea was 2 for $5! Its a great deal. I also picked up organic cough drops, a matcha green tea latte, a protein bar, and a large bag of cookies for just $14. I loved the selection of products and vitamins. I know they have all Organic produce, but I didn't pick any up today. The store manager, Carl, told me about their loyalty rewards program as well as their classes they offer in store. Another great thing I noticed was each employee (I saw 4) said hello, how are you? I'm personally so excited to shop at this store. Not worth driving out of your way. A few products you may not see elsewhere (sprouting kits) however almost everything here can be found at Sprouts (new one being built across street next to Trader Joe's) at MUCH lower prices. Heck, even hell-hole Basha's sells Organic Girl lettuce for less. As does WinCo. If you don't see a sale tag on it, 99% chance it's significantly over-priced. Even when you do see a sale, it may be. Example: they are hyping a case of spring water for $17+. At TJ's the same amount of spring water is less than $6. Friendly staff. The main unique feature is their pre-packaged spices and dry goods. Again, very hit and miss. Limited produce, meat and frozen sections - again almost all of it over-priced. I just don't see how this place is going to make it with TJ's, Sprouts and Fry's Marketplace (all of which have lots of organic stuff at lower prices). I like this store because it has the stuff from the local farmers market. It makes it much more convenient for me. I decided to try it finally because I like bone both soup and one of the vendors at the Scottsdale Farmers Market said their bone broth is available at Natural Grocers so I decided to give it a try. I was able to find things cheaper than at Sprouts so I am happy. And the fact that I don't have to drive to local farmers markets every Saturday morning is another big plus. read more

Had a real strange experience last night on Nov 12 with a guy that works as the cashier. He started following me around the store asking me questions as I was shopping. He continued to follow me and then was strangely watching me from a far. It was a very strange and creepy experience and I asked to speak to a manager about the situation. I the manager was very nice and understood my concern and I guess got the cashier guy to take a break before it became an even more awkward situation at checkout. This store had a more limited option than other natural grocers so I won't be coming back to this store but I really do appreciate the help from the manager. This is the closest grocer to my house but they just never seem to have what I need. And generally I only stop here when I'm in need of basic items (bread, lemons, juice, etc.) Its a pretty crunchy place that doesnt appeal to the rest of us. I keep trying and keep getting let down. I don't think you can find a more amazing market to buy organic groceries, supplements and hard-to-find gluten free food items in the East Valley. Their produce section is off the charts. The best part of their produce section is: there's ONLY organic produce, so you don't have to study labels. Just shop. Then, I usually walk the aisles to find sale and discounted items, because their prices are high, but that is to be expected for a high end retailer with only top notch natural products. I always find amazing new products buying their sale items. The best part is, there's rarely a wait to check out. I hope their business continues to flourish, and I hope you go there. I love Natural Grocers! I first discovered them when I lived in Colorado and was ecstatic when I saw the stores here in Arizona. They have a large variety of items and plenty of things for people with dietary restrictions. The staff at this location are friendly and helpful. My only complaint would be that not all the stores have the exact same items so one store might carry an item but the other does not. That just means once you find "your" store then you keep going to that store. read more

We were looking for something specific and they spent the time it took to stop, look in the back, learn that they didn't restock that item and shared they would add it to their next order. I shopped here the week they opened. I tried it again today, and it's my last visit. I try to shop locally, I want to support businesses, but when it becomes a hassle to shop there, forget it. I had my vegan shopping list. They had everything I needed - almost. The fresh spinach was slimy, disgusting, and overpriced. I would have to throw out half of the bunch and waste a lot of money. After leaving, I still had to stop at Safeway to finish the shopping list. If I had just gone to Safeway I could have bought everything I needed, saved money, and time. Organic or not, who cares? Natural Grocers still has this silly pretense of no bags - you have to bring your own. C'mon! Use paper if it's such a big deal, but like it or not most of us will go back to Sprouts or Trader Joes both of which have bags. This place is doomed - too high priced, too pretentious, weak produce section. It will become another empty eyesore. Didn't anyone learn the lessons from the failed Fresh n' Easy?
