    Chicken Platter with Fluffy Rice
    Suzette S.

Yelp, all started yesterday when I ordered through Uber Eats. Seems I ordered more sauce than food. The sauce is "Amazing." So tonight, I have decided to go in there and really see what they have. They have platters, choice of meat, sauce ( of course, have plenty from yesterday) on a "bed of pluffly rice with fresh cucumber, tomato and lettuce salad, topped with your choice of sauce, ( think I mentioned that already). So I ordered three platters tonight. They were only $11.99 each. The owner Excellent!

At my friend Vince has pointed out, we are very fortunate to now have several halal options in this area! When Nikki and I came to Naz's this past Saturday after catching a matinee, we were even luckier to make it to Naz's on-time for their lunch special that ends at 3 pm. It was 2:55! You get a platter of your choice and a canned drink for $10 (ok maybe it's $9.95 or $9.99 or something). Let me tell you: it's an exceptional value in these inflationary times. I opted for the chicken platter, but you can also go with beef/lamb, and they even have a fish option. The order is very customizable: don't want any veggies? No problem. Want chicken & lamb but craving a higher quantity of chicken in the ratio? They'll accommodate that too. The white sauce is different- in a good way as long as you like dill. I do, so it's great. The rice looked brown and long grain with a nice flavor, it isn't just boring white rice. There is ample dine-in space and it always looks clean. The drink selection is adequate: the usual soda and they also had a le croix option which was my choice last time. Ordering the "old school" way face to face at the counter with an actual human was quick and our order was made pretty fast. The online ordering also works well and offers up many customization ideas and pickup timeframes. We want to try some of Naz's other items, but that's gonna be a tall order when the platters are so darn tasty and filling. I definitely see how this mini-chain has made it all over the east coast. This is definitely one of our go-to's now and I bet it'll be one of yours too.

Hamilton township now has three very solid kabob/gyro places with Naz's being the most recent. They've only been open 3-4 weeks. Of the 3 this one has the most focused(limited) menu where your options are lamb, chicken, salmon, or kofta kabob. They also have wings and sandwiches which will be sampled on future visits. I went with the combo over rice and added falafel so I could try them too. I didn't like the falafel, it's flavor was ok but had a chewy overcooked texture. But everything else was good. The lamb was tender and unseasoned, the chicken had a tika like sauce with a little kick, I enjoyed it more than the lamb. I liked all of the sauces and experimented with various combinations. This huge 2 portion meal came in at $11 with a free soda included(not needed or taken) The clean and casual interior is fine for eating in, but with the low prices and quick pickup I see this as a better option than the fast food drive through choices nearby. I'll keep this in mind when needing a tasty meal on a budget.

Strong NYC influence in Naz's Halal Food emporium on Route 33 in Hamilton, NJ. They have been true to their City food cart roots with simple menu of gyros and rice bowls plus burgers and fried chicken. While no vertical grills I sight, nor aroma of grilled lamb, chicken or beef, the sandwiches exiting the kitchen are humongous with cut up meat, onion and white or spicy sauce in a fresh large pita. The walls are covered in murals of the Big Apple, making me feel nostalgic for the eclectic street life found in all boroughs of my former hometown. Queue: Billy Joel's Scenes from an Italian Restaurant. Orders are taken at the cashier at the rear counter, and delivered ten minutes later to your table if eating in, or well packaged for takeout. Service was friendly and the portions, generous. My Combo Gyro contained loads of lamb and spicy beef in a red chili powder and turmeric. Liked it a lot. Although the long basmati style rice is generous in the bowls, I prefer to concentrate on the meat and accessories, rather than fill up on unnecessary carbs. The dollars saved is also a pointed incentive. There are three Afghani kitchens along this strip of Rt.33. It is becoming a worthy destination for those who love this cuisine.

Solid 5 stars for the falafel over rice platters and all the sauces. Naz's started as a food truck in Queens, NYC and has grown to many locations across the 5 boros and Long Island and now NJ, Maryland, and California. I can see why they are expanding so fast because this is the cream of the crop when it comes to Halal food. Oh, and they are open until 4AM on the weekend to satisfy that late night craving!

Great food and great prices. $9.99 for their lunch special which includes either chicken and rice, lamb and rice, or combo and rice plus a can of soda! Can't beat that.

Lamb gyro. Delicious, but no way to eat it as a wrap. Tons of meat!

Naz's has quickly come to be one of our regular take-out options. While their menu is more limited the other Halal/Gyro houses in town, what they do offer up is of high quality. We tend to focus on the rice bowls, as they're both delicious and offer you a ton of value. My wife loves the green sauce while I'm a classic white sauce guy, but both are awesome. We've had the lamb and chicken and honestly you can't go wrong with either. The only thing stopping me from a 5-star review is I went off-script twice and ordered sandwiches, and both were somewhat disappointing. The pita on my gyro was a bit gummy and the filling was a bit light on meat. When I saw chopped cheese on the menu, I was beyond excited, hoping I could relive my favorite bodega lunch from when I would be at Columbia University. Alas, it isn't remotely the same. Tasty yes, but a genuine chopped cheese, no. Still, the rice bowls are on point 100% of the time, and they're always fast and hot when we order, so we'll continue to keep Naz's in heavy rotation.

What I got instead was an existential paradox that came in a compostable box. The Chopped Cheese Loaded Waffle Bowl was a triumph of entropy. Ground beef, waffle fries, lettuce, pickles, and some house-made sauce that probably had no right being that good. It was sloppy. It was a mess. It looked like what happens when a cook gives up on the idea of neatness and embraces chaos as a culinary principle. It was also delicious. I ate it with the same mixture of shame and pleasure that one feels watching late-night television while knowing there are better things to do. Then there were the wings. I had ordered five of them, boneless, with Mango Habanero sauce. The wings were not terrible, but the house should not be named after them. The chicken tasted like something that had forgotten its own purpose. The sauce, advertised as a union of spice and sweetness, was neither. It sat there on the wings like a politician's promise, shiny but insubstantial. My wife ordered a build-your-own chicken sandwich and cheese fries. She said both were fine, in the same tone people use to describe the weather or a dental cleaning. Fine is not bad, but fine is not what one hopes for when dinner arrives in a paper bag smelling like grease and glory. Still, the Loaded Waffle Bowl was enough to earn a return trip. I would go back for it the way a moth goes back to a porch light, knowing full well it might burn me. Next time, I'll try the bone-in wings. I'll give one of their nineteen sauces another chance to find meaning in the void. Four stars. Because life is messy, the bowl was good, and hope dies harder than it should.

In this case, my son and I went up to WingStop in the late afternoon, and it was set up for take-out only, understandably. There were two parties ahead of us, waiting, and one group had yet to order and was growing impatient. There was a crew in the kitchen of about 3, and two more employees came in around 5 p.m. The manager was sitting just out of reach, toying around on an iPad, in the area that was once the dining room. The customer ahead of us who had not ordered yet, challenged the manager. "Why aren't you helping up here?" The manager claimed that the business was not set up that way for her to help: she didn't have a register login. The customer persisted: "You could help pack orders, or get people their beverages?" The manager was polite, but ridiculous, and said, "I'm sorry, it doesn't work that way." Honestly, who knows what she was doing: she could have been playing Angry Birds, but she could have been making schedules or communicating with her corporate overlords, but really, whatever she was doing could have have waited until a less busy time. What manager puts computer work above customers? Two more groups came in to order, and two DoorDashers came in to pick up orders, and the manager continued to sit. The tension was palpable. Everyone just waited. And waited. And waited. I asked my son if he wanted to bail, but he explained that he had watched a TikTok video review of the establishment and the TikTokker said it was worth the wait. The same frustrated customer addressed the manager again: "You're telling us you can't do a single thing to help?" The manager replied, "Thank you for your comment." I could see there were a couple of cooks, along with a young lady who started getting beverages and packing napkins and such into the bags that were starting to come up front. But the star of the evening was a very harried young man who handled a little bit of everything on the front end: dispatching the orders to the Dashers, taking orders, assisting the cooks, making sure everyone had straws and napkins, and patiently explaining the sauce and spice options to anyone who had questions. He was a thoughtful and impressive kid and is the reason why this place gets 3 stars instead of 2; if it were not for the manager, this would be a 5 star review, for the type of establishment it is. My son ordered wings with a spicy rub, and I went for the tenders glazed with Korean bbq sauce. We both got fries and a drink to complete the meal. It did take a looong time to prepare the meal, and because we would have to use Olden Avenue during rush hour to get home (a congested unpleasantry even during the Plague Era), we opted instead to head over to TCNJ where we found an open picnic table behind Brewster dorm (where I lived for two years, many moons ago). It was such a nice night and I'm sure my newly-minted teenage son only tolerated my tales from the Lakeside dorms...and The Pit...but he tolerated them without fuss, and a bit of wing sauce smudged on his face. He said they were some of the best wings he ever had. My boneless meal was a perfect blend of sweet and spicy, a lovely marriage of garlic and ginger, and the fries provided a delicious carb-y base to sop up all the sauce. We were very happy with the food and have talked about going back again some time soon. We definitely will, and I will do so with the hopes of bumping WingStop up a star or two. Hopefully management gets it act together.
