The place is NEAT. Great food, location, parking and atmosphere. My hubby and I were looking for a place to eat on a Saturday mid day after running lots of errands. We went to trusty Yelp and found this place. What a great find. The décor is hip/urban/minimalist. There is a large bar in the back and the tables are up front. I had a burger minus the bun with a fried egg on top (yummy) and pan fried broccollini instead of fries. My husband had the same and ate his with fries. He said it was very yummy as well. The menu is extensive and impressive. Next time I go I am going to have those fries made with duck fat. Yes! Great service by the lovely server with the lovely Russian accent. read more

OK, so we went here on a whim and fell in love with the place! We started with the tiger shrimp appetizer, which was great. Not too spicy, not too smoky, not too dry, but just tasty! My husband and I both had the specials. My halibut with a coconut curry sauce was tasty, but not nearly as fabulous as, yes, sad but true, my side dish of grilled asparagus with a duck egg on top. Amazing! Salty, tasty goodness! My husband had the other special, which was a pork chop. It was phenomenal. It was bone in, and two bones tall! Huge pork chop, with wonderful crispy caramelized edges... Yummy! His baked potato was good, but basic. We also ended up with two, yes two, deserts. The waiter was super attentive, friendly, and overall amazing. I'd ask to sit in his section again anytime, but.... He did goof and bring us the death by chocolate dessert instead of the berry dessert we wanted. The chocolate one was a flourless chocolate cake with homemade chocolate ice cream.. Yum. But... The berry cake, which was like a milk cake, and came with vanilla homemade ice cream and raspberries was to die for! Drinks were amazing too, and they have a huge selection of great cocktails, wines, and craft beers. They even have a barrel aged Manhattan. I've never been a big fan of a Manhattan, but my husband got one, and I'll admit, it was tasty. The waiter was very knowledgeable about the drink selection, and was a huge help deciding. Helped me pick a perfect red wine, and my husband a perfect craft beer (after the Manhattan). The atmosphere is casual to dressy, with industrial type furnishings, and a nice separate bar area. Definitely a place I could pull up and have a few wonderful cocktails. Relaxing overall, but a bit on the loud side. It also was a very busy Friday night, so that might have played into the noise factor. read more

2nd time to Neat and both times I had a great experience. Food is excellent. I had the burger on the first visit and tacos the second time. Excellent selection of beers and a nice bar. Only suggestion is to add either a turkey or vegetarian option for the burgers which are clearly the popular items on the menu. I will be back! read more

So disappointed! I've been wanting to try this place since it opened. We had a party of 4 adults. It was pretty loud inside. Started off with some drinks. It took me asking my server & one other person, 4 separate requests to get my glass of wine that I ordered. I received an empty glass right away & waited well over 30 minutes for the wine to fill it with. My boyfriend ordered the bone marrow to try. Our server told us it would take an extra 20 minutes before it was served. He wasn't overly hungry, so he said that was fine. However, the rest of our entrees came out at the same time as his order & we had waited about 30 minutes for food, from the time we placed our order. Very slow service!! The bone marrow was all fat & grease & was not good. This was most likely the way the dish is in general & not necessarily a reflection of how it was prepared, but it was a waste of money. I ordered the tacos. 3 came with my order. They were small but tasty. The baked French onion soup was delicious & the Neat burger was good. I snuck away from the table & had asked the hostess, if she would mind having a dessert with a candle sent over to our table, as we were celebrating a birthday. Our server brought over 4 plates & 4 forks....ruined the "surprise" dessert because it didn't come for another 10 minutes after the plates & forks. The dessert, warm bread pudding & vanilla ice cream, was phenomenal! When we got the bill, we noticed that I was charged for 3 glasses of wine, instead of 2. Our waiter, took the check back very quickly before we could even finish telling him about the error, as if he knew we were being over charged. Their credit card machine was down. We paid with a credit card via credit card reader attached to what looked like a cell phone. The couple we were with said that Neat served great drinks at the bar, but I'm not in ANY hurry to ever eat there again. read more

This location has had trouble over the years. Apparently the secret that was NEAT is no longer a secret. Went Friday night with my wife for a little casual dinner. Came in around 6:30 to watch the Blackhawks and sat at the bar. When we left the place was packed and people were waiting. The place has a hipster feel - but more of an inviting way for the suburban clientele. Not pompous or snobby like most of the downtown restaurants of this genre. Many 30 & 40 somethings. Lots of specialty whiskeys and some good drink choices plus a decent selection of craft beers. My wife likes plain old Miller Lite and they served it up without the attitude you might get at other places. Menu is not huge, but has a good variety and some things that you might not normally order - but is worth taking the chance. At the bar, lots of people were having the tacos. Several proteins to choose from included shrimp, fish and a couple of pork options. I love the tacos, but ordered a burger - after getting a pre-order food envy from a bar stool neighbor. Burger was huge and tasty. Ordered it Medium and it came in kind of rare, but it was still really good. My wife had a rigatoni dish that was also good. For the benefit of this review, I HAD to try it! There were two bartenders that were large and in charge. It seemed that every barstool was dining, so they were kind of doing double duty for the bar as well as handling the service bar. Seemed like they had it under control. The back wall of the bar has a bar to ceiling shelf wall of whiskeys and other specialty spirits. At one time one of the bartenders pulled a step ladder to climb up on the back counter to reach for a true top shelf bottle. You don't see that as most places. We have been there several times and had enjoyed each visit. There are not to many options in this style or segment in the western 'burbs. It seems the secret is out and at least on weekends, this place is hopping! read more

Dined with 4 people and the food was 3 for 4 with the pasta dish getting poor reviews for undercooked pasta and little flavor. Crab cake got a 5 star review and the ribs were meaty and favorable. Service was good but we were there on a weekend and it was SO LOUD you had to scream to be heard. It was a full house and we were tempted to leave before even ordering but realized we couldn't get in anywhere else on a busy weekend. I'll go there again but only on a weeknight when I'd hope it might be a little less noisy. They should really look into some noise reduction solutions. read more

Fantastic spot in Westmont for dinner and/or drinks. Modern, dimly lit setting great for dates or catching up with friends. Like many reviewers, I highly recommend the steak tacos. I did a taco combo: steak, chicken and fish. I chose steak based on the recommendations here --- great choice. When ordering tacos in the future I will choose all steak, they were that good! My dining companion enjoyed the Neat burger. We started with mussels. I love mussels and while the mussels themselves were fantastic, the cream sauce was not my favorite. One of the highlights of the night was out server. She was very attentive and had an extremely positive demeanor, making for a pleasant dining experience. read more

I have been here twice and both times the food was great. The tacos are a must have, the pork pibil is awesome! Also the pork wing appetizer is very good. They have a decent size craft beer list. Had been wanting to try NEAT for a while. Finally got in and was not disappointed. Wasn't drinking that night, but beer and cocktail list is extensive. There's something for everyone. This is bar food taken up a few notches. The wife and I split an appetizer of Brussels Sprouts, seems odd, but these were incredible - crispy with a ginger-soy something or other sauce. I had a pork sandwich that was literally awesome. Great kids meals as well, mine got sliders and chicken fingers. Awesome vibe too. I had a very nice lunch at Neat Kitchen, but not quite a five-star joint. First of all, the service was a little surly. And since I was there at a very odd hour (about 4 p.m.) there shouldn't have been any problem with it being attentive and relaxed. Instead, I got the idea that the server was doing me a favor. And apart from when he had to be there to deliver food, etc., I think he came by once during the entire meal even though there was a grand total of about six people in the restaurant at the time. Second, the menu was a little more limited (at least for lunch) than I was expecting. I will immediately add, though, that what I had was delicious. I ate the pork belly appetizer and the rigatoni as my main dish. Both top notch. Bottom line, I would go back and hope for a different server next time. I wasn't so sure when we first walked in since nothing has survived at this location but the food was delicious. Try the Neat burger with the duck egg. One of the best burgers in Chicago. Surprisingly the one pasta dish on the menu was also very good. Rigatoni with a meat sauce. I ate the entire large portion. We ate at the new Neat this evening. Everything we had was really good and our waitress was excellent. I had the tacos with the pablano rice. You can mix so I had two mojo chicken and one pork belly taco. I did not know what to expect from the pork belly but the chicken was excellent, very flavorful. My better half had the French Onion Soup and a chicken Caesar Salad and thought both were excellent. They have a nice variety of wine and beer in addition to cocktails. In spite of the cold weather outside it was very comfortable in the dining room. We will be back! read more

Without question the best burger in the Western Suburbs. Their blend of meats, along with exceptionally good cheese, makes this our "go to" spot when we crave a great burger. The rest of the menu is excellent as well. I haven't had a single thing at Neat that I didn't love but I'll admit that I almost always order the burger. The French Onion Soup, though, is always dripping in cheese and has a prime rib flavor - almost as good as the burgers. The service is always excellent and the wine/beer list is solid. i wanna preface this by saying i've literally never felt compelled to actually go online and leave a review for a restaurant until i ate here last night with friends the place itself is hip and fun with a cool aesthetic on the inside, the service was excellent (now i forget whether our guy went by pat or patrick, but he was very friendly & on top of things!), and the food ? holy frickin cow !!! two of my friends got the short rib grilled cheese; i tried a bite and immediately thought "omg i have to come back for that" -- freaking delicious and looked like a huge sandwich. my other friend got a yummy-looking salad and sweet potato fries, which she let me try -- i think they were some of the best sweet potato fries i've ever had. as for me? i was so intrigued to try the peanut butter burger and *ohh my goodness gracious* i'm sure glad i did. if you like burgers and epic flavor, get yourself over to neat because you gotta try it too !! the burger itself was perfect, and on it came lettuce, cilantro, bacon, pineapple, sriracha, and peanut butter. YUM. part of the reason i'm leaving this review, though, is to share this tip: when i started eating, it seemed like a really good burger, but i was kinda skeptical there was even peanut butter on it. all of the flavors were surprisingly subdued. and then i noticed the bottom bun was too soggy to hold, so i took it off and flipped the whole thing upside down (this is definitely not a complaint from me at all -- it clearly happened because the huge burger patty was super-juicy, and the thing had pineapple on it which added further juice, plus i usually take half the bun/bread off sandwiches anyway). y'all. oh my gosh. once i flipped that thing upside down and kept eating it, every single bite was a masterpiece. the peanut butter was definitely there. the flavors came together in concert like the members of queen. i think i said something to my friends about how good it was literally every time i took a bite. so yeah, biggest tip from my experience: get the peanut butter burger, and eat it upside down. it's the morning after, and i'm still thinking about how amazing it was !! ;) the fries were great too, and my friends all got cocktails that they really liked. i was thinking about when i could come back before we even left the place !!! :) read more

Probably more of a 2 & 1/2 stars. I was hoping for a awesome meal. The space is very nice and the menu sounds like it's going to be great. But it was a suburban let down. The burger.. was nothing special. If you want a great burger.. drive over to DMK in lombard, they know how to do it right. The fries were laughable. It was like eating soggy, cold Mickey D's fries. These were no steak frites, there was no chef overseeing these, did they come out of a freezer bag? I expected more.. and when we complained to the waitress the response was "well some people like it that way". So .. don't get me started on the service either. The short ribbed grilled cheese, bread stale? calamari.. bad. shouldn't be on the menu. if your going to have a limited special menu.. make everything excellent!!! The Neat Burger might be the best burger I've ever had! Great service and a very hip place with a city feel.

Latest visit had the kids grilled cheese, kids grilled chicken sandwich, and short rib sandwich. Food was very good, but... short rib sandwich portion was a little small and fries weren't crisp enough. Kids loved their sandwiches. Also, both visits (during winter) restaurant was too cold and bathroom was absolutely freezing like a window was open. - food is OK, not amazing and very overpriced for what it is - cocktail menu is small and sad - amount of beer selection is amazing, however the drink menu doesn't sort it by type of beer, but in alphabetical order, which makes it pointless when trying to make a selection - staff is friendly but unorganized, all over the place, unprepared for dinner service -it is very clear this restaurant is poorly managed - I would not recommend going here, there are plenty of really great restaurants in the area for the same price or cheaper. We went there for Valentines Day dinner. They were super unorganized and hadn't even printed out the menu when we got there. Our waitress, although very nice, had no clue what the menu was. She told us we couldn't order a burger and instead had to order off the extremely overpriced "special menu". My bf ordered French onion soup and I ordered Brussels sprouts. The sprouts were delicious, a very generous portion and a decent price. The soup was OK, the rib is not necessary in it. One of our main courses was a tiger shrimp salad, which was $20 for literally 3 shrimp. The salad was good, bit this dish was not worth the price. The other was a surf and turf for $35. I felt ripped off. 3 scallops, a small triangle of polenta, and the smallest piece of flank steak I have ever been served. To add insult to injury, it was slathered in poorly made harissa sauce. It did not go with the scallops at all and made the entire plate beyond disgusting. I have no issue paying $100 for dinner, but I expect it to be good, this just wasn't a good experience. read more
