Awesome gluten free bakery in Monterey. They have some dairy free and vegan options too. We got the ham & cheese roll, chocolate chip cookie, and blueberry muffin. Ham & cheese roll was large and filling. Delicious bread that didn't taste gluten free and the texture was pretty good too. Only complaint is it was undercooked and gooey in the very middle but I was full by the time I got to that part so I wasn't mad. This is a common issue with gf pastries. Blueberry muffin was the best gf muffin I've ever had. Sometimes I find blueberry pastries to be too tart but this one wasn't. Perfect sweetness level, great texture, and also large and filling. My gluten eating partner said he would never know it was gf and I agree. Chocolate chip cookie was also the best gf cookie I've ever had. They are small but so delicious. Perfect if you prefer softer cookies with lots of chocolate. The sea salt adds that extra punch of flavor. You'd also never know this was gf by the taste. We live far away but will definitely be back every time we're in Monterey from now on. I will probably get more things now that I know how good the taste is. read more

Exceptional quality and taste for all the 5 different muffins and 2 different brownies (with and without walnuts) we eat from this bakery. The grain bread was also above expectations. Inviting designed interior as well as the option for outside seating are a nice environment to enjoy the goods on the spot. I went in during closing yesterday. My mom and I grabbed one of the last few items left. The loaf of bread was one of them and the one I've tried so far. We both decided it was really good. I have a special request for Nece! I would love to see that loaf in a olive loaf. Omg. That would be really good too. It's soft, not too soft, it's not tough and brittle. It's tricky with gluten free bread and pastry and I really commend her on her recipe. The staff was nice and they cut the bread for us. I have an intolerance and my mom freezes gf bread for when I visit her, frequently, but not enough to finish it. So it was just a really kind gesture for them to cut it for us! I really wish Nece and staff all the best, and I hope she opens a sister shop down in Santa Cruz someday, so I can frequent more often. read more

First visited Nece's in 2022 and finally was able to return after dreaming about those heavenly pastries! Came back in 2024 and they have not changed...in fact, it's even better. Those peanut butter frosted cupcakes are addictive! Came all the way down from SF area to find that they ran out of their delicious sandwich breads, but fortunately had some other loaves they were selling individually and with some creativity, Nece's was able and willing to make us delicious pastrami sandwiches for our lunch. Better than any gluten-free bakery or cafe anywhere. Literally. Phenomenal sandwiches. Gorgeous pastries. I'm celiac and also have a tapioca allergy, so usually can't have anything that's normally classified as gluten-free. The sandwich I got on their multi-grain (tapioca-free) bread was better than anything I've ever had. Will meet standards of the non-gluten-free folks. My kid wants to return to Monterey just for Nece's. Please consider opening a location further north. Or selling your breads and other goodies to Bay Area markets and cafes. Stone-cold, hands-down, flat-out amazing pastries. We had a muffin at Carmel Valley Coffee Roasters that was from Nece's and then ordered a chocolate cupcake from Nece's actual store. Both were incredible. Nece's has cracked the code on gluten-free pastries. The pastries here are better than non-gluten-free pastries. Just outstanding. And the folks here are really friendly and engaging, making the store a fun place to visit. Will be back for sure. read more

Omg!!! I went in and I got almost one of everything. I was so excited and boy did it not disappoint. If you're ever in the area and have celiac or are gluten free OMG, the stuff that I got was amazing. I wish we had a place like that over here. I wish they delivered this far where I live. I brought the stuff home and I plan on freezing some of it, but what I've eaten so far I wish I would order two of everything. The cinnamon rolls are moist and buttery and cinnamon and more. Let me tell you, this is not your average dinky sandwich with 2 thin slices of deli meat (looking at you Mariposa bakery), no, this is a SANDWICH. A tasty asf one. I was trying to avoid their amazing looking pastries because I'm trying to lose weight, but I heard them tell another customer there was a maple bacon scone!! I turn around and get back in line to order it. It was amazing. The scone dripped flavor. Lots of little bacon piece with a symphony of profiles- salty, sweet and savory. My partner tried it (who's not gf) and asked if I could get him one next time. He loved it. I'm lucky I work about 10 minutes away, but also temptation is now too great. When I put it on gps, Waze kept sending me across the street. Nece's is close to the grocery store, Elroy's. The storefront is small with limited seating, though there is a table outside. Then again being in Monterey county, it might be nice to take your goods on a picnic to the beach. I just ate my stuff in my car like a goblin. Prices are what I expect to pay for gluten free items, I'm used to San Francisco and Oakland prices, so it's about the same-yet more delicious. Thank you for existing, Nece's.
