Mediocre at best. Table-side Caesar was saturated (dripping) with dressing. After a few bites, it was inedible... Cannelloni was nothing special. Beef Ravioli was good. As was the bread and butter, and the anti-pasta. I dunno, maybe I'm a Ristorante snob as Italian is my fav and I've had some really good experiences elsewhere. Again, Nello's = mediocre yet pretty steep prices. For this level of food, the prices should be about 25% less, then it might be worth it. As is, not going back. As some of the other Yelpers mentioned, we also found the staff and the overall environment a little weird and awkward. Just kind of a weird vibe!?! The combination of wood fire and grilling of the steaks is amazing. All the seafood is prepared so perfectly, love the piccata sauce. Because we always loved the house salad, only in recent years did I discover the best Minestrone soup in the world was right there!-(I could live on it). The scrumptious antipasto plate and bread they bring is such a tasty starter to what is always a memorable and delicious meal. We lived in Redding for 3 years....Nello's was a rare highlight! If you're familiar with the San Francisco area, it's very similar to the "Westlake Joe's" restaurant...Flashback 1950's-1960's Italian Style! YUM! The food , service and atmosphere were exceptional . Felt like we were literally transported to Italy, but we were still in Redding , Ca. Everything we had was amazing ! The service was amazing, but the food was sub-par at best. The garlic bread was dried out and tough to eat, while the fettuccine Alfredo had a funky after taste. It taste like it came out of a jar. I was assured they make their sauces fresh, but I sent it back and didn't bother to replace it with another entree. Overall, for the cost - $17.50 for just fettuccine with Alfredo sauce - it's not worth it. Olive Garden is better, heck, even sauce in a jar is better. I'm not sure why this place is so popular. My sister had the ravioli and said it was just ok, which was how my boyfriend felt about his lasagna. So, if you are looking for even decent Italian food, skip this place. I checked on yelp as I was craving some great Italian food. The reviews don't do Nello's justice at all! I give it 5 stars across the board! I arrived in time for the happy hour and ordered the special(I can't remember what it was called). It came with nice warm sourdough bread and butter and then came the antipasto with salami , cheese and a delicious marinated tuna. Then the salad with oil and vinegar and fresh ground blue cheese on top. To top it all off was probably the best lasagna I've ever tasted. I ate at the bar on a slow night and the bartender was fantastic as well. The service is impeccable! I highly recommend Nello's and I will be back on my next trip to Redding. read more

I'm not sure why everyone gives this place so many good reviews as my husband and I were extremely disappointed. We went here for a valentines dinner because of the great reviews we read. As we entered the restaurant, the place was packed. Understandable since it was valentines weekend. No one acknowledged us for about 5 mins. My husband finally walked to the bar to ask what was up and if we could be seated. A gentleman explained that it would be a few mins. We waited a couple of minutes and then were seated in the corner of the restaurant. I ordered the spaghetti and meatball and my husband had the clams over fettuccine. My meal was terrible. I've had much better at Olive Garden. My husbands was okay but was swimming in garlic with not much else for flavor. Service was lacking as well. We were frequently without water and they did not bring us more bread, even when asked. Very pricey for what you get. I understand the ambiance they are trying to create with the lighting, but I found that the restaurant felt dirty. The table that we sat at had crumbs all over the cloth as if someone had just sat there prior to us. The curtains next to us on the window looked like they had dust from 1985 on them. The low lighting would be enough for most people not to notice and maybe they prefer it that way. We definitely won't be returning or referring this restaurant to anyone in the future. We were driving from Seattle to LA and were spending the night in Redding. We stopped at Nello's Place to eat after reading the reviews. Our waiter was a space cadet which started the night off on a bad foot. He did a horribles job of waiting on us ... The restaurant is way to dark. What don't they want us to see...? We ordered Calamari with a white or clear sauce for an appetizer, but who could really tell what color it was ... could have been pink or blue for all we knew... Calamari was tender but the sauce was not good.. very bitter ..we could not eat it. I had linguine and clams. It wasn't the worst but it was nothing special. My husband's veal dish was dry...I have to say is was a bad experience, except for the wine.... read more

Best Italian food I've had in a long time. The salad made at your table was a nice touch and the atmosphere was quiet and relaxing.

This was our first time visiting. It was great for authentic Italian cuisine. Yelp had it wrong for price, however. Should have been in the $$$$ range. We enjoyed the Chianti, the fried ravioli and the Death by Chocolate dessert. Next time, we'll make a reservation. They were a little too busy and we waited a little too long. My wife and I got a recommendation to try out Nello's in Redding. The atmosphere was great. Dimly lit and all the waiters were in white shirts with bow ties. But no worries you don't have to be dressed up. Shorts or a suit will fit in just fine. We were seated quickly and the service started right away. Water, bread, and wine on the table before we knew it. It was a well organized team effort. San was our waiter and he was on top of everything. The salad was made fresh at the table and was delish. We both had different pasta dishes and the were great. Not once did we have an empty wine or water glass. Cheese cake for dessert was great, and we took leftovers home for the next day. Ugh. Another Redding disappointment. I felt like I was in a cave. No windows. And it was soooo cold inside. The salad wasn't really salad. More like lettuce with oil and vinegar and some shrimp. The service was measly. The waiter barely talked even though we said it was our first time there. We got one or two word answers for our questions. He didn't even return after serving our food until we were completely finished eating. Then he asked if we wanted to order dessert even though our meal came with spumoni. Huh?? Thoroughly enjoyed our evening out at Nello's! They serve the Caesar salad table-side, which is an awesome experience, and their dressing is suburb (made in front of you). We also had two pasta dishes that had distinctively different tastes (wonderful change from classic chains where everything tastes basically the same no matter what you order). Our only desire is that they would switch to organic greens. Highly recommend this dining experience, but make sure you have plenty of time to enjoy it - they serve at a leisurely pace, which is a nice change from our fast-paced world. read more
