Hello! This is my 2nd review for NEM, but this review is for their new items - Fried Calamari, Popcorn Chicken and Garlic Fries. (Just posted a picture for each!) Personally, I really wanted to like the new items because everyone here are so wonderful, but I can't say I would order any of these again. =/ I'll just stick to their specialty rolls when i'm around. =] *Fried Calamari: Wished they looked more like their advertising picture! Mine came out really small, dark, and may have been overcooked a bit. It tasted just okay - nothing special- just battered and fried. However - I think they should advise people that it COMES with fries with your order. My box came with about 3/4 fries and 1/4 Calamari? *Popcorn Chicken: Really tasted plain to me, but maybe it was meant to be that way since their sweet and spicy dipping sauce was really flavorful. At least the chicken was moist inside, but to me, it wasn't memorable. *Garlic Fries: Shhuuckks...I think they forgot to put "garlic" in my Garlic Fries. My mouth was watering looking for any hint of garlic to satisfy my craving, but sadly it wasn't there! I have gone too far to turn back to ask about it, so regular fries it is. read more

Needed a large order of spring rolls for a poker event and didn't want to wait in a long line at Brodard. NEM is In a small shopping area. Customer service was good. Parking is very limited. Luckily most people just stop in this area for pick up so I was able to get a sport right in the front. Got everything I requested and even got myself a small order for the road. Would definitely come back for future orders. read more

The Nem Cuon rolls were good. The crunchy eggroll wrapper felt like it had been left out for a couple of hours and wasn't fresh, but the sauce was hot and tasted really good. read more

It is unfortunate to see all the bad reviews here seeing that my experiences have been stellar. I usually call ahead (just 30 minutes before I plan to pickup) for party trays. The offer a variety of rolls and other appetizers, but I've always only come here for those. The rolls are comparable to other popular establishments in the area. However, the rolls are well priced which is great for when you don't feel like cooking but want to contribute something to a potluck. Standard price of rolls is $1.50, but a tray of 20 comes to $27 dollars. That's $1.35 each! Quality has been consistent and pretty good. Sauces are a little on the sweet side, but I don't mind much as I do mix in a lot of chili. Orders over the phone are easy and pickup is a breeze, especially on busy weekends! read more

I wish I can give this place 0 star. this is the second time I placed an order on the phone and it was not ready. I called at 8:15 AM to place an order for 830. She told me it will be ready by 835. I come there at 8:40 and it was not ready. Unfortunately I wasn't able to wait another 15 minutes to get the order complete before work at 9. So be warned everyone, this place has no accountability on their time and when they were confronted of it, the girl said they were only two workers in the back. If that's the case, then she shouldn't have given me a time that wasn't fulfillable. Beware of the receptionist, she absolutely has no manners at all. HIRE SOMEONE ELSE AND MORE PPL. I loooooveee vietnamese food. Almost as much as I love Japanese food. In fact, rolls are a food group on my pyramid. I love trying out different places because there are so many different ways people will make them. Nem nuong cuon are staples at most viet places, and happen to be my favorite menu item. My mom ordered a few for me here. The meat was yummy and the ingredients inside were extremely fresh. However, the crispy goodness inside was so spiraled together that it was hard to bite through. The sauce was very similar to Brodards, yum! The take out is super easy and quick to order through. Be careful because here (unlike brodards) puts saran wrap around each of the rolls in the packages. Don't be like me and try to bite through the plastic (lol). I can't speak on behalf of parking or service as I did not go to the actual store. The price is much better than brodards, however I do prefer brodards over nem. However it satisfied my craving so I was happy! Usually really enjoy this place but lately they have been extremely skimpy on their rolls. Nem Cuon rolls are so skimpy and thin. Where's the pork?! They used to be so much thicker and filling but these are just not cutting it. Cons: The only down side is how small the place is and the minimum $10 purchase for cards. When I came they were also already out of mozzarella sticks yet it was still early in the morning, makes me feel as if they don't serve it at all and keep up the option for show. Food Quality: Other than that I got a $9 combo option that comes with three sides, I chose fries, chicken, and cheese corn. The fries and chicken were five stars for me, though the chicken were quiet small but it was understandable for the price. The chicken was well seasoned, crispy on the outside and nice soft insides. The fries were also really great quality! Usually I expect "filler" fries from combos, which are mediocre pre-fried and frozen fries but the fries they gave were really great quality. My cousin suggested I visit here for my nem Nuong cravings. I took her up on it and ordered nem nuong and also bo bia. If you are going to make good nem nuong, you must have good sauce. The nem nuong roll, well everyone can make a decent roll. The sauce is what nem nuong is judged on. Unfortunately, Nem doesn't stand a chance. The sauce was lacked flavor and made the nem nuong roll worse. I will definitely go back to Brodard and suffer through their horrible service then eat at Nem again. I was excited to try bo bia roll, after my disappointment with nem nuong roll. The same issue here, the sauce lacked any flavor. The sauce should be the hoisin/peanut butter sauce. The roll was missing some key ingredients, like dry shrimp. Also, I wished it had for basil leaves. I'm not coming back. read more

I can't believe this store overcharged me $20 and don't refund to me after I talked to them. When I placed orders over the phone, the girl name Phuong told me $35.89 for 20 rolls. So I ordered 200 rolls which is only $358.90. After I picked it up, store charged 2 x $190.31 because price goes up. I told them that I never got phone call in regarding price changes. This place deserves higher rating! I've come here so many times to purchase party trays and the quality is always consistent. I prefer them over Brodard to be quite honest! Good food, great value! The taste and quality of their nem cuon and sauce rival the more popular nem cuon restaurant in Little Saigon (not naming names). Yet the prices here are so so much more reasonable. And the trays are such a great value when ordering for parties. read more

I tried this place the other day because I did not want to wait in line for Brodard's rolls. Because many people has said this place tastes similar to Brodard, I decided to give it a try. I came here and got my order to-go. The employees are friendly. The place is not that big and parking is drastic. There is very limited parking so it may be frustrating. The rolls are nicely made and look similar to Broadard's. The nem nuong rolls are actually good and flavorful. However, I did not really like the sauce that it came with. It is sour and so I decided to not dip it in with my roll. But, when I did that, the nem nuong roll was not as good as it would be with the sauce. I will return if Brodard has a long wait! read more

Where's the button for negative stars when you need it?? Man, I used to looooove getting nem nuong cuon here, but after one terrible experience, I vow to NEVER come back here again. Here's the story: My mom went here after work, hoping to get herself a light, but delicious dinner. She ordered a total of six rolls with the lady (who I guess happens to be the owner). After paying, she told the lady that she would be right back as she was just going to pop over to the store next door to get my sister and I something to eat. The lady acknowledged this, so my mom left the store. However, just a few minutes after returning, she found that NEM was CLOSED. No way to get in or call for attention... Legit just straight up CLOSED. Like, wtf?? So next day... My mom comes in to tell the same lady that she never got her rolls the night before. The lady glared at her, pointed to a sign in the store that had the hours, and said "We close at 6, so you can't order after that time." My mom was in disbelief as it was the lady who TOOK HER ORDER AFTER THE CLOSING TIME. The lady then asked to see the receipt and took it to the kitchen. My mom waited and waited and waited... three customers came in after her and they all left BEFORE her. My mom was very irritated at this point, so she asked the lady when her food would be ready. The lady had the effing audacity to ask her AGAIN for her receipt. She went back to the kitchen and brought back the six rolls that my mom ordered and said to her face "This is the very last time I will be doing this." LOL WTF? UMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM... EX-CYYYUUUUUSE ME?? WHAT DO YOU MEAN THE LAST TIME?? WHEN DID IT EVER HAPPEN BEFORE THIS FIRST TIME???? Lady from NEM never apologized, never showed any sort of remorse, NOTHING. It's customer service like this that really leaves a bad taste in your mouth. It doesn't matter how great your food is. If your service can't match it, it's not worth it. TL;DR: Long story short, customer service at NEM is legit the worst. The owner is a money hungry demon and doesn't give a shit about her customers as long as they're giving her money. I would avoid this place at all costs if you care about common courtesy. *BONUS STORY: One of the customers that came in while my mom was waiting paid for his food with a twenty dollar bill. The lady scanned it through a machine MULTIPLE TIMES to make sure it was real AND held it up to the light to double check. HAHAHAHA. FUCKING RIDICULOUS. We order the meal deal! 7.00 for three spring rolls, a big box of French fries and a soda! Also we order another pack of springs rolls so everything come out to 12.99 not bad for two people! Prices has gone up and quality has gone down. This use to be my go to place for nem roll besides brodard. They cut down on the nem meat by nearly half and increase the price to $2/roll. If you're going to increase your price due to inflation at least keep your quality the same. Will be buying nem from Brodard moving forward read more

Pretty good nem nuong that supposedly rivals Brodard. I'm impartial, both places are good. They wrap the nem nuong so tightly in plastic wrap that I thought it was part of the rice paper! I even bit into it with the plastic.... Anyway, great prices for the rolls. I also tried the summer and shrimp rolls... They were ok. Definitely go for the new nuong. The parking lot and shopping center is quite sketch. Ten dollar card minimum. read more

We came to Garden Grove to get some boba, ended up at 7 leaves (instead of Tastea) and got nem nuong from here (not Brodard). And I was fully satisfied with my choices. It's a great alternative to that other place. The other place is always crowded, and you always end up waiting for 20 minutes for them to make your roll due to the large volume of orders they get. GRANTED, I will admit the rolls at the other place are better, these, as I have already stated, are a GREAT alternative. Coming here on a Sunday afternoon, they weren't too busy. We got our order in less than 5 minutes (probably more like 2 minutes), and were enjoying our delicious rolls in the car before I could take three sips of my boba. Yes, we ate in the car. There's not a lot of seating inside. Also, they only take cash, so take a few dollars with you since it's $1.50 a roll. Got my boba fix and nem nuong fix, all in the same block. Spring Rolls: I don't know how you can mess up on this...it's boiled shrimp, some greens, noodles... The noodles were dry, lacking flavor Bo Bia- Couldn't taste the lop xuong...you know why? Because that dried shrimp is overpowering your taste buds. It tasted like dried shrimp rolls. Then there's two thinly sliced eggs, squishy jicama + carrots...ughhh If you want to compare to Brodard...then here it is...when you order Bo Bia at brodard, it's warm, freshly rolled, and not rolled in the seran wrap unless you order in bulk for catering. The peanut sauce...actually tastes like peanut butter and hoisin sauce with LOTS of peanuts. Let me ask you this... how do you go wrong on the peanut sauce??? I don't know what it was that I dipped into, but it was disgusting. Why was it glistening? It was chunky...I don't know. How to make peanut sauce: 1. Boil Water 2. Peanut Butter 3. Let peanut butter melt all the way with water...once it's light brown...go to step 4 4. Add hoisin sauce 5. Stir...taste... Go one more step to make us happier...ADD CRUSHED PEANUTS into the sauce...BAM...you got Peanut sauce. No need to add fish sauce or sugar. DONE Holy crap...5 steps...and can't do it. I really wanted to like this place. I was close to giving this place 5 stars but I had to knock off some points. When my order came out I thought to myself "wow that's a huge order for only $4.25!" The popcorn chicken was crispy and flavorful. It was perfect until I noticed that half of the box was filled with fries underneath. Cool, the order COMES WITH fries (I find out after reading yelp reviews) but did I order fries? No. Their menu doesn't even specifically say that it will be half fries and half popcorn chicken. Nem Nuong rolls are what they get their name for! It's totally worth the hype and you get to choose either if you want 3-4 pieces I believe. Personally I a good amount and just eating 4 pieces by myself made me full. It has a good balance of the crispiness and freshness. Compared to brodard, I don't think their nem is as good. The crispy skins inside the rolls were stale and I had just ordered it. The parking lot is so small and there's no space to park. There wasn't anyone in the restaurant when I went in, the place is really small and there's 2 tables if you want to dine in. They offer larger party tray orders and also free ice tea. I like that they offer a variety of different rolls to order and try and I also like that there are different combos. The combo comes with 2 rolls and your choice of sides like fries or wings. That's pretty unique because I haven't seen another roll place do that. The sauce that comes to dip the rolls with is okay, it definitely is needed to eat with the rolls. It was $27 for 11 rolls and a papaya salad. Im glad that I tried it out but I'd probably go back to brodard next time. read more

I recently found out about this place on Yelp under new businesses. As a big fan of nem rolls, I just had to try it out. I ordered the party tray of 40 rolls for my company party. They have great deal for big orders. Per roll at regular price is $1.25, but if the order is 30+ then its $1 a roll, so $40 for 40 rolls = totally awesome!!! Taste. I must say the rolls are on par with Bordard. Presentation, taste and texture are all there. The pork sausage is flavorful and grilled just enough to give that smokey/char taste that I like. You can taste the fresh greens with a nice crunch in every bite. Portion is just right, all the components are well balance. Sauce is equally delicious, well seasoned and has right amount of thickness. I also like the fact that they give you plenty of chilli sauce on the side to give that extra kick. Oh yeah, I made my order on the day that they were closed, but the owner there was nice enough to go out of his way to make my order and had it promptly done. Noticed this small joint when I stopped at Pacific to check on a range hood. Decided to take a peak into their shop and noticed their small selection of Vietnamese rolls and other snack food such as fried calamari, popcorn chicken, and papaya salad. Ordered 2 men nuongs and 2 Bo bias. The order came out quickly and looked pretty good. Apparently look can be deceiving. The meat in the nem nuong was dry. It didn't taste like it was freshly made. The Bo bia was bland with an overpowering dried shrimp after taste. The sauce was awful. I barely could finished the 2 rolls before giving it to the dogs. Unfortunately, this will be my first and last stop at this joint. Seriously, when there are so many places that sell nem nuong and other spring rolls, why open another shop selling the same thing? I have tried all there rolls many different occasions and have always tried to keep an open mind. Everytime after I eat there rolls I am reminded how much I miss brodard. Brodard blows them out of the water! There prices aren't any cheaper then Brodard. If your ever craving Nem Nuong rolls. Just order them at brodard.
