Greeting was rude, dirty seats, lipstick on mug and not one apology. Cocky & proud. They did not deserve the 20% tip. I'll try everything once. That's it. To add on, my parents were first to arrive and they did not feel welcomed at all... When they asked for a cup of coffee, cause they wouldn't seat them until the entire party was there, they had to pay for the coffee first. It couldn't have been added to the tab later cause they apparently looked like the type of people that would skip out without paying a cup of coffee. Granted, not for two, but we would have been in and out before another group of 4 showed up. We asked about it, they ignored us. So, we went to the coffee counter to ask for a beer while we waited - they said no.... AT THE SAME TIME they brought a couple to the back patio to enjoy mimosas while they waited the moment they walked in. Why didn't they offer us this same luxury? Never asked if we wanted our cups to be refilled with water or if we needed anything else. Don't know if that is the way of doing things at this place but not even our bill was brought. Tried chicken with waffle & salad, my friend ordered shrimp and grits with an oyster on top. The chicken and waffle was good. Good crunch and sauce was a sweet chili (tasted like the one you dip lumpia in), I cleaned my plate. I think though that the prices are too high, unless the chicken is super organic or something. Few big leafy greens, could've used a little more salad. Came with one drumstick and one thigh. $16, tip and tax $21, little pricey for lunch. Tried my friends shrimp and grits. Not impressed. It did not look or taste good. Also very pricey for tiny shrimp. Drinks: the orange juice is fresh squeezed and good Menu: limited, but everything sounds great Food: perfect portions. Had a very fluffy and delicious omelette with a fried oyster. Nice attention to details all around. Service: a touch of attitude from the hostess and server. Wasn't busy, but still had to wait for 5 minutes and then ask for waitress before getting any service. It's that time again - weekend brunch! Ive been enjoying my Roman mythology (theology, I suppose, if you're a believer - no hate!), So I browse Yelp in search of a Roman mythology themed restaurant. What luck! Neptune's, here I come! I dress in full scuba gear in preparation for a fully underwater restaurant. I bring Sprinkle, my love, Sally, Linda, and Raisin. "Please!" I beg them, "dress appropriately for the restaurant. It's life or death!" "Ricky!" They assure me. "The restaurant will not be underwater!" Sure enough the restaurant is dry as can be; not even a puddle in sight! What a fool I am! Such lack of water shows Neptune's wreckless seeking of wrath to bring on themselves from their namesake. The punishment will surely be swift and without mercy. Sprinkle has ordered the Eggs Benedict. She hums in a sing-song way, bobbing to the rhythm of her taste buds song. What do you think of the meal, Sprinkle? "I enjoy the floral decorations. The sautee kale? Spinach? A true delight." Sally is back in town and has some choice words about her sweet waffle dish. "Can I eat these flowers? Do I want to eat these flowers? It will start a garden in your stomach." Her fear is entirely rational, much like that of my underwater eatery. We'll be visiting the doctor afterward to be sure no flowers have taken root. Besides the floral debacle, Sally enjoys her meal a great deal. Linda has joined us today for a first meal together. Linda: the spotlight is yours! "Bacon!" She exclaims when her The Standard arrives. Always on the lookout for decorum, she shares "...Needs to involve dinner theater, but the jazz will do." Agreed! She shares a similar experience to Sally - what is up with the flowers? "Did you ever eat clovers when you were little?" A single tear rolls down her cheek as she drifts away into the warm comfort of childhood memories. "It tastes like clovers." Wow! And what of my meal, dear reader? Are you dying to hear about it? Well, allow me to satiate your appetite for food reviews. I have ordered the Eggs Benedict. It was delightful! While I can say I've had better, I certainly enjoyed the meal. The biscuits were thick and crumbly; an excellent companion mouth feel to the soft and squishy eggs. The bacon cost extra, but for good reason! The bacon is outstanding: thick, crispy, sweetly savory, and bursting with flavor. Easily my favorite part of the meal. I fear for this restaurant. My fiancé, my father, and I came here the Saturday before Father's Day and had a wonderful experience! When we walked through the door, I immediately liked the cute nautical decor, but also appreciated that it wasn't overdone to the point where it looked cluttered. We walked in almost exactly at noon, and although it was busy, there were tables ready and we were seated immediately. Our server was pleasant, professional, and very prompt with our drink orders. She then took our food orders, and we definitely did not wait long for our food -- I'd say it was about 10 minutes, 15 minutes at the most. When our server brought our meals, we were instantly impressed by the presentation. Once we started digging in, we were equally pleased with all the yummy flavors! Me: Sweet Waffles INCLUDED: Light, fluffy waffles topped with house-made sweet ricotta cheese, perfectly ripe seasonal fruit (nectarines, strawberries, blackberries, crisp apple slices), local honey, slivered almonds, and edible pansies & greenery. THOUGHTS: I typically like sweeter breakfasts, but am not a huge fan of mountains of whipped cream on my meal. The sweet ricotta, ripe fruit, and honey that was lightly drizzled on top resulted in the perfect amount of sweetness. I finished every crumb! Dad: Savory Waffles INCLUDED: Light, fluffy waffles with bacon cooked into the batter, topped with tomato jam. His also included edible greenery, and I forget what the shredded white veggie on top was. It may have included a few other ingredients, but to be honest, I was so focused on MY waffles, I forgot to make more mental notes about Dad's. THOUGHTS: Dad said he ordered the Savory Waffles totally on a whim, having no idea if he'd like them. He was pleasantly surprised! He felt the tomato jam worked with the waffles the same way salsa can work with home fries/hash browns. He, too, finished every last bite! Fiancé: Smash Burger INCLUDED: Burger patty, a white cheese (don't remember which kind), lettuce, heirloom tomato slice, fries, and pickled veggies on the side. THOUGHTS: Although he liked the overall flavor of the burger, he said the patty did crumble WAY too easily, making for a somewhat messy eating experience. He did finish it all, however. I love pickles, so he shared the pickled veggies with me. This was the one element of his meal that neither of us liked -- the two types of pickled veggies (carrots & radishes) were SOOOO sour that we didn't finish them. We would have preferred standard dill pickle spears instead. Still, bonus points for creativity! The carrots looked really pretty, they were just a little too intensely vinegar-y for our tastes. OTHER NOTES: My latte was tasty (and pretty!), our eating area & seating area were spotless, water refills came regularly. It was a bit loud at times, but that's to be expected on a weekend, especially Father's Day weekend with a festival taking place on Webster Street. There were just lots of happy people enjoying their meals! My friend and I stopped by Neptune's for brunch on a Saturday afternoon and it was pretty busy. We wanted the outdoor seating so we had to wait a little longer. Between the two of us we had the shrimp and grits, avocado toast, sweet waffles, Frittata and of course the lumpia (not much for 2ppl right?). For drinks we got the chai latte and a matcha latte, both were pretty good. Overall the food was good and the service was ok only. Beautiful looking restaurant with a great atmosphere. Ordered their smoky burger and was excited. I love bacon and jalapenos. I was a little surprised I wasn't asked how I would like it cooked. When it arrived, the bottom bun was so soggy that it instantly fell apart when I picked it up. The burger itself was layered so ambitiously with toppings and jalapeno relish and the housemade bun was not tough enough to handle it. Our waitress Karia noticed it but began to walk away. I had to stop her and ask how I was supposed to eat such a burger without a fork and knife, she shrugged and suggested a new bun but told me I would probably have the same issue since their housemade buns were usually like that. I got a little irked because there wasn't any real empathy about how poorly put together this $15 burger was. I didn't expect to be offered a new dish, which would have been appreciated, but I would have at least appreciated a sorry for serving a soggy bunned burger. None of which made me feel very valued as a guest at this restaurant. After waiting about 5 minutes for a new bun, I was able to dig in. Even with the new bun, it seriously was a difficult burger to eat. Too many toppings and a soft bun that had the absorbent ability of single ply toilet paper. It was the type of burger that you never put down. Not because of how good it is but because you are worried it will disintegrate into a heap of slop. A burger should never have to be eaten with a fork and a knife. The quality of the beef, bacon, and toppings was amazing. It had the ingredients and flavor of a luxurious $15 burger. However, the meat was an over cooked well done and the burger was overall not well executed. Disappointing for sure and not worth the price. read more

It's not anything spectacular to give it the five full stars but then again, it also wasn't the worst place I've ever eaten. We came around 11:00am on a Saturday and waited about half an hour to be seated (totally understandable for a lazy brunch day). What wasn't really okay was that our server never brought us our waters. We had to ask another person to remind him and even then, he still didn't bring anything. It was only when we were nearly finished eating and someone was making their rounds to top people off did they realize that we were the table with absolutely no cups. As for food, I ordered their ($16) steak Benedict which had the flavor I was looking for but I was extremely disappointed that they couldn't substitute the home fries for something else on the menu. According to the server (yes, the same dude who couldn't remember to bring us water), the restaurant has a policy to not make any substitutions to their dishes unless the person suffers from some sort of allergy. Hmm... since when did restaurants stop making accommodations to hungry, paying patrons? Decor, cleanliness, and the hostess met my standards of what a brunch place is supposed to be like (and frankly, what balances out my overall rating of this review). If I decide to ever come back here, I'll have to be okay overpay for two not-so-runny "poached" eggs and accepting sub-par service from a scruffy-looking guy who looks like he doesn't know the difference between his fingers. read more

This place is really quaint with a nice patio outside. The dishes are presented very beautifully and taste as good as they look. Though the prices are a touch on the high side the quality, unique options (traditional brunch items with a multi-cultural touch), and presentation of the food as well as the excellent attentive service make it well worth it. This is the kind of place that would have lines waiting outside in SF, but being in Alameda there was no wait on a Friday morning. The shrimp and grits with the optional addition of fried oyster are among the best I've ever had with so many different flavors in every bite and just the right combo of shrimp and oyster and grits. Nothing was left on the plate when I was done. My girlfriend enjoyed her chicken and silog with waffles. The chicken was both crisp with a tender and moist inside. The service was good and we got there around 9am on a Saturday and we able to be seated right away, but it got busy quick so be mindful of when you go. I want to like this place so much more than I do, which is probably why I've broken my own three strikes rule and why I keep going back. Each time, I'm convinced they will have worked out the kinks from last time. Each time, I end up sad. I'd say the most consistent issue has been food temperature. Every time I've been, someone at my table has ended up with a plate of cold food that was meant to be served warm. Two times we've had issues with servers disappearing on us halfway through the meal. Once, they forgot our appetizer and didn't even apologize about it. That said, the atmosphere is charming, parking is easy, and when they get the food right it can be great. I like the kale salad because I live in Berkeley and that's a given, but they also have some good burgers. read more

Visited for the soft opening. Loved the ambiance of the place and the fact that there's a parking lot. Servers seemed extremely overwhelmed. Walked in and waited a number of minutes before any of the waitresses pacing back and forth greeted us. Seating took about 45 minutes. Food arrived in a decent amount of time, except our eggs were undercooked (wayyyyy undercooked), and my chicken was partially raw. There was only one person manning the coffee station, so our coffee came 15 mins after we started eating. They were kind enough to subtract the coffee from the bill. The restaurant definitely has potential. Hopefully it'll become a well oiled machine by the grand opening. read more

Oh my! This place had the best egg scramble I have ever had! It was loaded with bacon and mushrooms and topped with a heaping chuck of avocado. I don't know how they cooked the potatoes but they were so fluffy and crispy, I couldn't stop eating them. Along with my scramble they put a small helping of leafy greens that had a sweet dressing on them and they were fresh. The toast I was given was also crispy and had a side of butter inside the strawberry jelly. The jelly had a thin consistency and was sweet but not too sweet. I ended up dipping my bread in it because I couldn't get enough! I was extremely impressed by their food. The restaurant had the the coolest theme that was very fitting for the town they are in. It was a rustic nautical theme with old diver helmets along the wall and mason jars for glasses. They also had a large outdoor patio with tables and a large couch to lounge on. The customer service was great as well! My waitress was very welcoming and tended to me frequently. I ordered a black coffee with my meal but they both came out around the same time so I was too full to finish it. I asked the waitress for a togo cup for my coffee and when she retuned she brought me a fresh large black coffee togo and said it was on the house because mine was probably cold and it was chilly outside. I wish I got her name so I could give her a shout out! I highly recommend this place for breakfast/lunch! read more

I did not have a chance to eat here because instead of getting a table for 5 after our Color Run, the manager offered me a job behind the counter right away. I think it's because I was able to clarify 5 people was actually 3 adults and 2 kids and wouldn't need the same space as 5 adults. I also pointed out there were only 2 large parties and 3 small ones (2 people) ahead of us so maybe it wouldn't take 30-40 min of wait time? I know it's important to ask prospective employer good questions, and BAM! that's what got me an offer to do his job right away. I know I'm good at interviews but I didn't realize I was that awesome. Updates: so instead of an apology, the restaurant refused to admit their lack of customer service. He did ask me to go behind the counter and if you don't want any sarcastic reviews, please don't use sarcasm to treat the customers in the first place. It is hard to find a good brunch place in Alameda and I do support Neptune's (applauses). Been here several times. The first time I loved it, their fried chicken & waffles was my all time favorite and I order it every time I visit, however their food quality isn't very stable and it seems to be worsen every time. By the third visit I was disappointed. The salad seems old, leaves were not fresh. My favorite fried chicken was dry and not as juicy as I had the first time. I would definitely revisit to give it another chance since I live on the island and would very much like to support our local businesses. read more

We had a fantastic restaurant week experience at Neptune's! The toast with ricotta cheese, jam, sliced almonds, and honey was delicious. The sausage lumpia was our least favorite, as it was not very flavorful. The waffle with ricotta cheese, sliced almonds, and honey was beautiful and had a huge variety of fruit on it. The omelette had tons of veggies, half an avocado, and a tasty side salad. Banana caramel lumpia was fresh and hot, and the affogato was amazing with top notch espresso over coconut ice cream. The dishes were beautiful and unique, as well as a great value. The space was charming with its ocean theme. The service was excellent. Oh I miss the old Foster Freeze but I love this place. Great place to catch up with an old friend over brunch. So I'll start by saying that I love the food here. I've been to Neptune's 4 or 5 times now and everything I've tried has been really good. With that being said, I have never had a good customer service experience. Yes the wait staff/cooks ext are generally friendly, and yes the restaurant is always clean. That doesn't mean that they put a lot of effort into customer service. Of the separate times that I've eaten at Neptune's: they have forgotten my wife's entire food order completely, I've never gotten a refill without asking for one (coffee water ext), have waited in excess of 20-30 minutes waiting for the bill, always been served room temperature water with no ice (had to ask for the ice), on hot days there is no/they don't turn on the A/C and there are no window coverings on any of the windows so you just sit in the sun. It's hard giving a bad review to a place where the food is so good, but their downfall is customer service/operational decisions. Hopefully they can get things a little more dialed in because I'm sure they will be in Alameda for a while. read more

We arrived around noon on a Saturday with my family of 5 people and there was already a line out the door. I asked how long the wait. The front said about 15 mins. Unfortunately, I think he miscalculated and it ended up taking over an hour. Normally this wouldn't be so bad except that we had kids and 1 if them was only 4 yrs old. Luckily we brought snacks for her while we waited. Ok, we get seated and the ambience is pretty good. We wait another 15 mins for our Oder to be taken and another 30 mins before we got our food. Unfortunately, we also had to ask about the status of our order which was a bit disappointing as it seemed to be ready when we asked. When the food came out, it was still warm, looked and tasted great. Decent portion size, they offered good recommendations as to what was good on the menu. We scarfed everything down pretty quickly since we were so hungry and then waited another 10 mins for the bill. Note: they add 20% to any parties that are 5 or more which I think is a bit steep for breakfast or lunch service especially when the service was sub par. Lastly, the bathroom (yes, only 1, enter from the back) is clean but, it can take awhile to become available. So, in summary, decent food, service needs a bit of work when it's busy. Prices are on par in alameda (maybe a bit high). Not sure I will be back but, I'm not sad that I tried it. Expect to pay $20/person for food and drink out the door. read more

Lastly don't be afraid to try their rice dish(not as good as hawking bird, but that's a different kind of place).
