I came here late one night after getting dinner with some friends. I saw that there was a yelp coupon for one free waffle if I checked in, so I figured I might as well take advantage of it. There were a few people in the store when we visited, so I had to wait a few minutes before placing my order. Unfortunately, the night I came, they were out of many flavors of their waffles - the only ones left were the plains. So naturally, I ordered one plain waffle, just as a little dessert. The waffle itself was below par. Texturally, it was like one of those frozen liege waffles that they just microwaved. It was so dense, and then the taste was off too. It tasted like a Costco croissant instead of a Belgian waffle. It was very odd. The place is very small, think small, local coffee shop vibes. There are a few tables inside and outside, but I wouldn't recommend coming with a large group. Parking is limited to street parking, and at night, it gets pretty busy. I'm not sure what the alternative parking options are. Pretty disappointing visit, I must say. Maybe I caught them on an off day, but if not, I'll be looking for other places to satisfy my sweet tooth. read more

After a trip to Belgium last year I have been pining after the sweet, soft liege waffles sold everywhere there. Fellow Yelpers said that Nero would lead me to waffle heaven, and I was not disappointed - they taste just like the ones I had in Brussels. I loved Nero's so much I stopped here twice in a two day trip to Vancouver, and will definitely return next time I am in town. The shop is quite small, with limited seating, but is pleasant and full of delicious smells. After ordering you are seated and your order is brought out fresh, or packaged in a box to go if requested. My first visit I got a savory waffle (Brussels style) and it was wonderful. The waffle was crispy and fluffy, with Havarti cheese, arugula, cherry tomatoes and a hard-boiled egg. It was so delicious and very satisfying. On my second visit I just got plain liege waffles. They are sugary and no extra topping is necessary if you are like me and enjoy simple snacking. The plain waffles are also perfect for a walking snack in Stanley Park, although you will need a napkin for sticky fingers. Delightful, delicious... and awesome. Just go! read more

PROS - Beautifully photogenic waffles that also happen to be yummy - Quick service - You can watch them make the waffles fresh - Options to customize CONS - Small inside seating area (when it's cold, you definitely don't want to be sitting outside) - No savory options - You get less ice cream than at Le Petit Belge Overall, I prefer Le Petit Belge over Nero's. This review is a blatant plea to have Nero Belgian Waffle Bar to bring back the speculoos cookie butter waffle. I know I keep coming back and ordering other lesser waffles, but what would make me sincerely happy would be the ability to order this one particular item. Even if you just left a jar under the counter with my name on it. I would be totally cool with that. Although the speculoos cookie butter supply chain doesn't allow for the best of all waffle flavours to be featured on a daily basis there are other options. Fortunately Nero has perfected the waffle. They feature both the less sweet but larger Belgium waffle and the smaller but sweeter liege waffle. My second favourite flavour on the menu is the chocolate and orange liege waffle. I love the how they top the waffle with sweet chocolate whip cream and then sprinkle just a little bitter cocoa powder over the top. It is mind boggling how good the sweet and slightly chewy warm waffle tastes balanced against the fresh oranges and chocolate. If you have the time to wait in line I suggest eating in and ordering a mint tea. They put fresh mint in the glass with an orange slice. It is very refreshing. While mentioning the line I would like to say to fellow customers if you see people waiting for a table perhaps don't hang out for hours chatting. Calling all those who love all things waffle... Nero is your new best friend! Wow, seriously just WOW! This adorable little shop, located on the far end of Robson Street, is tucked up among the many shops and restaurants along the mature tree lined neighbourhood. With a Starbucks on one side, and a cannabis dispensary on the other (insert stoner waffle joke here), it can be easy to miss - but the one dead give-away is the line of people salivating with their mobiles in hand, ready to insta pic a waffle montage. Once you do order, you get seated and wait for the fluffy, Belgium classics, to arrive. They have a fabulous assortment of teas, as well as an espresso machine (but no washroom - so don't drink too much). And then you realize that the wait was worth it the minute you take a bite.... I had the Chevre goat cheese savoury waffle wit toasted pine nuts and plump raspberries; and I ate every last bite despite it being HUGE! I'm embarrassed to say, but I need maple syrup on my waffles. I ventured to Nero Belgian Waffle Bar to change my mind about syrup, and it worked! We tried 4 different Brussels-style waffles, which were indeed light and fluffy, and full of flavor! The waffles seemed a little small when they arrived, but they were surprisingly filling. My favorite was the fruity waffle, which had freshly cut fruit on top, and arranged like a rainbow. I was able to substitute the whipped cream for ice cream (nothing better than eating ice cream for my first meal of the day!). In my opinion, the other star of Nero is the London Fog latte, which I was not familiar with. This drink is a must-order item!! The earl grey latte was infused with lavender and house-made vanilla, with extra thick and flavorful foam! I also got to try the mocha, which had espresso whipped cream and ice cream. The savory ones were good too. I just wish there was a heartier protein to accompany the cheese. Final plus in my book--their coffee drinks use beans from 49th Parallel Coffee Roasters, which was also one of my top stops during my visit to Vancouver. read more

So, I visited Nero Belgian Waffle Bar during a trip to Vancouver with my friends based on a recommendation from a fellow foodie. FOOD = 5 Stars: All the food was perfect. I had a belgian waffle with banana dark chocolate and a side of nutella. Yes, I know it's a bit sweet, but I couldn't help myself. The waffle was very crispy but soft and the banana was fresh. Even the dark chocolate and nutella was so good... you could practically drink it, but don't worry. I didn't. In our group others had the liege waffle with banana and nutella, belgian waffle with spekuloos with ice cream, whipped cream, and white chocolate, and someone else had a savory waffle, which I couldn't take a picture of because it was basically gone before I could react. Freakin' awesome waffles. Simple as that. If you don't feel like waiting 45-60 minutes for a table at one of the other brunch spots on the West End (which is exactly the situation I was in on a Sunday morning/afternoon), Nero is what you're looking for. After perusing the other reviews, it looks like some folks had to wait 45+ minutes for a table and/or food, so take this with a grain of salt, but I walked right up and ordered and had a delicious Bresilienne Waffle sitting in front of me after a total of 15 minutes. It is a very small store, so I can imagine that it can be cramped and difficult to navigate at peak hours. But if the line is too much, you should be able to tell by the line outside pretty quickly and alter course before it's too late. I would recommend sucking it up and just waiting if there aren't too many people in the store already. I love the sweet and savory options (mostly sweet, but who can fault them for that?). I've only tried the Bresilienne, but literally every option looked tasty and I will definitely go back next time I'm in Vancouver. Most waffles have chocolate on them in some capacity, so if you aren't a fan of chocolate, it will narrow down your choices a little bit. Everything is relatively inexpensive as well. You can have a delicious breakfast for under $10. Granted, it's a very sugary breakfast and you'll likely be hungry before long, but you knew what you were getting yourself into when you decided to come here. I have been to Vancouver at least 4 times since I wrote the last review. I remember the place being quiet and cozy but still busy. My most recent trip was a blast, and of course, I took my mother to this joint to have some delicious belgian waffles. This time, the line was out the door. We had to wait at least 30 minutes (in the rain) to get a seat inside. It is crazy how places change over time. While I do not like waiting so much for delicious food, I am really pleased that Nero has done so well over the past few years. If they are reading this post, I really hope they come down to the US and open up a small shop! (Specifically in Sawtelle in Los Angeles). I usually go for the fruity waffles since everything is just so fresh. I switch it up between the liege or the brussels since I can never choose. Usually on my trips up to Vancouver, I go to this place at least 3x. Their lattes are also quite nice. On a rainy day, sharing a warm waffle and drink is the best medicine to a cold day. My boyfriend and I got 7 mini liege waffles for $14.29 because we thought this was the best way to try a variety of flavors they have to offer. We got 2 creme filled, 2 plain, 1 chocolate covered, 1 one cookie butter, and 1 almond. All of them were incredible! The best were the creme filled and the cookie butter. For the chocolate covered one, we took it home and heated it in the microwave for 15 seconds, so the chocolate melted just the right amount. Highly suggest you do this! Get here earlier than when you plan on eating your waffles. There's always a line. I came here first at 10pm, and we stood in line for 30 minutes. We decided we didn't want to order and wait because they had pre made mini waffles which was $2 each. I got the vanilla custard and it was great. Custard was so creamy, thick, yet smooth. And the waffle was perfect. Not too sweet at all. My friends and I decided to go back because we couldn't go for two hours without talking about it so we got there 45 minutes before it opened in a Sunday morning. Groups of people started showing up 20 minutes before and when it finally opened, the waiter acknowledged that we were there first and let us in first. Being a devoted pastry & all-sorts-of sweets fanatic I was full of joy when my friends introduced me to the new place 'Nero' where the sweet couple creates wonderful and delicious waffle dishes. I had a Belgian Waffle with Vanilla Ice Cream and Dark Chocolate. It was pretty good, crisp and fluffy! Next time I will try the Liege style (the sort which I usually have at Mink's). There is a wide variety of different waffle creations you can pick from, alternatively do your own toppings. It is ok priced, I think it was ~ 8,75$ for the large Belgian Waffle with Ice Cream and whipped cream. It's a new business with a great product, small shop. Located beside Mcdonalds on Robson, this place is tiny! It can only accommodate 10 or so people, even then, it still feels really stuffy. What lures in the crowd are their amazing waffles! You can go with one of their creations or custom build your own! You can to choose between the ligve or belgian waffle as your base! I personally like the liege better! The ice cream they use is high quality, the real deal! It isn't too sweet either! Great waffles. Not the best I ever had, but it's certainly toward the top of the list. Nero is small but charming, so good luck finding a seat in this small place. My cousins and I ordered the Brasilliene (their bestseller) and the Mocha Waffles on Brussels to share and it was enough to satisfy the three of us. The Brasilliene was definitely my favorite out of the two. Both delicious and not too sweet, but be prepared for a whip cream overload! They also have complimentary water which perfectly balances out the sweetness of the waffles. I was a visiting tourist and it was my first day in Vancouver so I only had US dollars with me. Thankfully, I was able to pay for the waffles at par, and they gave me my change in Canadian dollars in return. Needed a sweet fix to end the night off with my sweetie, and this '5' star popped up on my Yelp app, which led my car to drive in this direction at night. What came after this was a great delight of 'gourmet' waffles. Another plus about this waffle place is that it is open late, not just a daylight treat if your in the hunt for a new fix.... waffles. A tiny store right beside a McDonald's on Robson, this place is narrow, tight, and if you walk too fast, you could miss it, but probably not, due to the people salivating with their mouths open, lining up to get a bite out of this place! When you walk in, your eyes just get fixated on the cute little waffles that are cooling off after being prepared on the iron, which is at the front of the store. There are two kinds of waffles that are served up here: Brussels and Leige. On this night my dear ordered both, and we didn't go for the all fancy savoury ones, or the ones with added whip cream and sweets, just 'plain jane' so we can taste what these waffles are really about. For the Brussels, we just had icing sugar sprinkled on top, and for the Leige we added some raspberrires to tart up the sweetness of this waffle. We sat under the starry night sky, as there were no seats inside (this place is real small, did I not mention that) and because of all the cooking of sweets that goes on in here, there seems to be a lack of fresh air (unless you like sucking up all that sweet cooking goodness, and most of you do!) and our waffles came out fresh to order. We were lucky, as the lady who brought our servings out said that this is their second batch of the day, so we got a chance to have them very fresh. Very pretty on the outset, with the icing sugar just sprinkled on lightly, like a day of winter when snow falls on the ground, these things looked like the belonged on the front of a box of frozen waffles (you know where they look so good... and it sells the product)! Top marks for presentation here, even though we waited for a good 10 minutes for these small grill like things! We first had the Brussels, and chopped this thing up in small bites, and it had a great firm texture. The thing was not limp, and it was not that sweet, the icing sugar helped this waffle, but I can see if we were to add ingredients on this thing, how the complexity would change. It was simple, yet it was good, where you can just taste quality in the stuff they put in. The second, and last plate for our night was the Liege. The sweetened one had a different bite altogether. There was a chewiness to this one, where the other one was just firm with a crunch. It was more dense, smaller in size and one where my dear partner was really enjoying. With or without toppings, this one was just different. I cannot say one waffle is better than the other, it more is a preference thing, and with the choices of savoury and sweet waffle combinations, both would change what you order quite drastically. Adding toppings if you just go the bare basics was an extra $1.50 (I could be wrong), and the raspberries were a good addition to the Liege. I wonder what we will add onto our order next time? There are just so many possibilities While we were sitting outside waiting for our plates to arrive, we noticed the constant slew of customers coming in and picking up stuff, whether to go, or to stay and eat, people were coming. I think on the inside they could only seat a maximum of 10 people, so don't come in a monster group expecting a seat, cause you probably won't get it! Maybe next time we will come back and order a more complex waffle, but it is definetely a place I will keep in my mind when I want this, and hopefully it won't be too packed when I come back, but I highly doubt that! read more

I'm a huge fan of waffles and we are so lucky to have so many great places in the city. As with all waffle places, the restaurant is very small and gets packed quite quickly. Have no fear though because they have to go options! I had two of the mini waffles - French vanilla custard and chocolate. Both were amazing and affordable also! Just $2 each. OH MY WAFFLE!!! Two 5-star reviews within a week! So the other day I was dancing above the clouds of rainy Vancouver after falling for the apple tarts at Thierry's. Now, I'm sure to be diving into a much hotter location as I face an imminent affair with the handsome waffles at Nero's. MmmmmMMMmmm!!! This place is just too cute - love the natural warm wooden decor with the little touches of greens and flora. There are only 3 tables inside and a couple on the street in front. It's so made for sunny weather. The tucked-away location would be perfect for a tryst if not for.... ...the waffles. Yes, my friends. After the first bite, one becomes certain this place will not stay quiet long (it has only been open for 6 weeks). Despite the fact that we were actually quite full after dinner and usually paragons of civility, all vestiges of decorum, reserve or ethics were clean forgotten as my friend and I nearly annihiliated each other to get to every last crumb. We ordered the strawberry and cream Brussels (light and crispy) selection. Not only was it beautifully presented, it was...just so indescribably perfect...I'm tearing up just thinking about it now as I write. I love Nero with a passion. It's my favourite dessert place in the world. This is the go-to dessert place I recommend to any friends who visit Vancouver. If you even remotely love waffles, you have to try Nero. It's located conveniently at the end of Robson St and owned by Belgian people. Nero serves two types of waffles: liege and Brussels. I always get The Biscuit (vanilla ice cream, oreo crumbs, whipped cream, dark chocolate) on a Brussels Waffle whenever I go. The Brussels waffles is the larger, airier one, which goes well with the crumbs and dark chocolate. I also don't like whipped cream, but they always suggest replacing it with an extra scoop of vanilla ice cream (free of charge!) instead. The waffle is light but crispy and sweet, while the melted dark chocolate adds the extra sweetness onto the vanilla ice cream. Highly recommended. I love chocolate and Nero makes the perfect chocolate-heavy waffle without going overboard in sweetness. The Bresilienne is also quite good (vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, hazelnut crumbles, caramel sauce). I love hazelnuts so the crumbles are heavenly and while I was never a fan of caramel (too sweet), the caramel sauce here complements the hazelnut and ice cream perfectly. You can also mix and match your own toppings if you want more flexibility! Try the mini waffle sampler ($2 each or 5 for $10) if you want to get a liege waffle: it's a set of 6 liege mini waffles that comes in various flavours. It's also great for sharing! The only downside is that the cafe is very small, so it does not seat many people and can have long lines after dinnertimes. read more

Walked and drove by this place a few times but never stopped. Decided to try this place out after dinner with a few friends. Cute little shop that is on Robson Street and it is a perfect place for dessert. It does get busy as the space inside is fairly small. I had the Bresilienne Brussels Waffle which was topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and drizzled with walnuts, caramel and a dollop of whip cream. The toppings complimented the waffle perfectly. My friend had the Biscuit Waffle which was topped off with crushed oreos and dark belgian chocolate sauce along with a dollop of whip cream.  I can't remember what my third friend had. To be honest we should have just shared one perhaps two as the portions are quite large. But we decided to over indulge. If you like waffles, then this place is a must! read more

I originally gave this place one star for several reasons: I stood in line with others waiting for a waffle and they ran out, they don't answer their phone, 3) website under construction. But, I wanted to give this place another try because of the great reviews people have given this place. OKAY...... I love this place. I now love Belgian Waffle Bar !!! I stood in a line again for this place, hoping to get a waffle to go. Again, they almost ran out. The place was packed inside and crowded outside. But I waited and managed to get one of the last waffles. The crispy waffle with strawberries and whip cream was great. However, the Bresillienne waffle which was a crispy waffle with vanilla ice cream, crumbled oreo cookies, whip cream, and chocolate syrup was amazing !!! It was big enough for two and the waffle was fresh and heavenly smelling. I love that they have take out and they can package the waffle in a way that still looks pretty. read more

One of the best dessert joint in Vancouver. I believe Nero's is widely accepted as the standard in "GOOD" dessert places in Vancouver because everyone knows it and loves it. A nice hearty interior with wooden tables and chairs in a fairly upscale part of town. On a cold winter night, you will most likely try to reserve a spot inside and enjoy your waffle rather than taking out or sitting on the few tables outside. The menu is simplistic and offers a nice variety between different flavours, textures, and taste between sweet and savoury. There are two varieties of waffles, the Brussels and Liege waffles. As of recent, they offer groups of mini waffles for your enjoyment at home for a reasonable price. Personally, I like the Liege because it is soft, chewy, and sweet. A minor complaint about what you get with your waffles is the canned whipped cream; kinda disappointed it wasn't fresh Chantilly, other than that, the ice cream, chocolate, and waffles are a heavenly mix. So difficult to get a great waffle in town that's not overly sweet. Nero Classic waffles do the trick but I don't recommend the waffle and ice cream.. It was loaded with whip cream so I guess if you are a fan of that then you may love it. The ice cream choice was only plain vanilla too.. I recommend pick one up to go, go get yourself a high quality ice cream next door at wholefoods and create the awesome dessert at home! Next time, that's what I will be doing. Delicious fresh crispy warm waffles made right on the spot especially for you ! I love this cute little waffle cafe :) Every topping I've tried has been delicious :) With or without icecream. The only downside is that the place is really small and sometimes u have to wait a while to get a table, but trust me, it's totally worth it ! These are hands down the best waffles in the city. The price range is between $7-$10. And there is usually street parking nearby. Lots of buses also come this way ! read more

As the saying goes -- don't be fooled by appearances and this is so true of Nero. Such a cute, charming little place, so unassuming and inviting that I could not help but be drawn to it, not knowing what to expect when all of a sudden -- BAM!!!! I was blown to bits by the deliciousness of Nero's waffles. Tried the Bresiliene, Parisienne, Dame Blanche and Berrylicious. All of them were sooooo good. Love that the waffles were very light, fluffy and how the Brussels had a pleasant crispy texture. The Liege was also very tasty. The best thing about Nero's dessert waffles is that they are never super sweet but just the perfect amount. Prices are very reasonable given the generous portions, excellent food quality, with the fruits being very fresh. And on that note, their waffles are made to order; they don't do premade and reheat. Next time I think I will have the two waffle types plain side by side to taste the difference for real. The toppings are divine, but like bread, I often prefer to enjoy waffles on its own. The only downside to this place is how small it is and therefore very limited seating, especially at night. You will be waiting awhile for seats; otherwise, be prepared to take your treats to go. read more

Probably any dessert place gets an automatic 3 star lol, but this one is a sure thing, b/c any decent human being would not be so selfish to recommend to someone to try it here! Unless you have a group bigger than 6, prob. not a good idea, as only 1 table can barely fit 5, three 2ppl, & one ppl. Yup, pretty compact. Anyways, tried the Mocha & Braselene Hazelnut, which the latter I found more sweeter to my liking...both had a good-size scoop of ice cream, flanked on each side with espresso whipped cream U& vanilla, respectively. Mocha had some nice chocolate chips ;) But the most important, is the waffle: light, crisp, great texture. Sprinkled generously with sugar powder.
