New Greek restaurant that I had heard nothing but good things about, so I made our reservation almost two weeks in advance for 5:30 p.m. Our server, Andrew, was great, friendly, attentive, and one of the highlights of our experience. The sea bass fillet was delicious, and the filet mignon was cooked perfectly. My daughter really liked the meatballs, although my boyfriend and I thought they tasted a little overcooked. The octopus and Greek salad were both good, as was the lamb with pasta, but none of them felt especially memorable or exciting. For all of the dishes, five cocktails, and one glass of wine, our bill came to around $420. The portions also felt relatively small for the price. Nothing was necessarily bad, but considering the cost and all the hype, I expected to be more impressed. Would I come back? Right now, I honestly feel indifferent. read more

Resist the hype. This seems to be the hot new restaurant around but sadly it just didn't deliver. The decor is lovely but the room is very small with terrible acoustics. I could not hear my husband but with the sound bouncing off the glass and mirror it felt as if the booth to my left was literally screaming in my ear. On the positive side, the service was on point, pleasant and attentive. Our server was great and food arrived in a timely manner. Tables are tiny and booths are small, which is tough as Greek cuisine is full of dips and small Mezze dishes and it was challenging to figure out where to put everything. The one thing that was instantly shocking were some of the prices....$32 for a Greek salad that was nothing special (more on that in a bit) and $80 for a small whole fish. We were fresh off a trip to Greece and were excited to dive back into the cuisine with memories of delicious, unfussy food, that we swooned over in its simplicity and tastiness. Unfortunately Nesos tries way too hard and does not deliver. The biggest issue is the type of Feta they are using. It's "barrel aged", and is overly pungent and strong tasting. It was absolutely overpowering to the point of inedible in the Tirokeftiri dip. The dip was part of a trio ($35 which was also outrageous). The olive tapenade style dip was hardly a dip but more of a dryish paste that was difficult to spread and wound up in pieces everywhere else except on the measly 4 triangles of pita they served with it. The eggplant dip was the least offensive, but wasn't great. Next we tried the zucchini "chips". They were tasty but a little on the greasy side and they were accompanied by a super thick tzatziki which tasted more like sour cream than anything else. We also sampled the saganaki which was meh at best. Overly strong and pungent to the point of not enjoyable. Next came the Horatiki salad which is a traditional Greek salad. I honestly don't know how they could seriously justify charging $32 for this. Tomatoes were standard issue-mealy and tasteless, bell pepper was super hard and sliced into long spears. Dressing was also overly strong which did not compliment the literal brick of "barrel aged" feta that sat on top. Again, way too strong to be enjoyable in any way. By the way, a typical Horatiki salad in Greece which would have been 100x better would have cost about $10. Lastly we ordered the Sea Bass (lavraki) filet for $42. We figured we would split it as we had so much other stuff. It was tasty but super small. We did not stick around for dessert as we could hardly hear anything except the obnoxious diners to my left trying to outdo each other with their loud guffaws to draw attention. Honestly, it didn't look that great anyways.... Do yourself a favor and skip Nesos. It isn't worth it..... On that note, it is very sad that no one has been able to open a casual Greek taverna with authentic cuisine and ambiance. It would do amazing if only it could turn a profit with the ridiculous rents in the OC-sadly, the OC food scene remains grim with only a handful of options and hungry diners ready and willing to spend for something great....We will keep hoping and praying for more options read more

I was disappointed here; it was not one of my finer dining experiences. Valet was closed when we arrived and the lot was full. I had not considered the possibility of parking half a mile down PCH to then walk back, but the guy running it was incredibly helpful and accommodating. After checking in for our reservation, we were sat right away, but no one actually came to our table for over 10 minutes after that. Jen noticed that we had no water or menus and took over our table when our original server apparently did not. I felt like she was truly hospitable and really tried to turn the night around. The food is in fine dining portions and each dish took a longggg time to come out. Our dinner took over two hours (reservation was at 7:45 and we didn't leave until after 10). It did remind me of my time in Greece. At one point, the kitchen tried to tell Jen that they were out of octopus an hour after she put our order in. When the dish came out, they looked like end scraps, but it ended up being my favorite dish of the night anyway. The other dishes we ordered ranged from pretty good to decent (horiatiki, zucchini chips, spanakopita, lamb chops, lemony potatoes). The bougatsa was so tough to eat that I ended up just tasting the custard. Speaking of all the flaky food, I found it a tad strange that for a place that touts itself as so upscale, they left the same large crumbs on the table after every clearing. I'm not planning on returning. They seem to have crucial kinks that need to be worked out, and I'll attribute them to being new. Greek food is already healthy and fresh and somehow they make it little bit fresher here. The ambience is nice . Feels like a nice bistro , not dark . Bar area is not big but looks inviting. Make sure you greet the bartender politely before ordering your drinks or else he'll make you feel like you don't belong . And be sure to ask for new ice if you see him pick up your ice cube of the floor and place in your drink . Bartender was kind enough to get you new ice right away . Drinks were well made . I like my Negroni. . Once we got seated , the experience is mount Olympus level . Really good food . read more

We finally made it to Nesos over the weekend! This was the old Mozza restaurant and my bf and I have been meaning to come check it out for a while. We were lucky enough to snag a last minute reservation! My bf's brother apparently has been trying to get a reservation too, but no luck. Lol. So yes, reservations can be tough to get! The atmosphere here is upscale and beautiful. They changed the layout a little bit but it still has a great vibe! We started out with their delicious cocktails, then switched over to wine once dinner was served. For our appetizers, we ordered the Octopus and OMG... this was SO tender and flavorful! Please don't skip this one if you're a fan of octopus! We also ordered the Eggplant Dip with pita bread and it was yummy! For our main course, we ordered the Sea Bass (whole fish) because I was NOT about to miss out on this. I swear every Yelp photo I checked out had a whole fish included in their orders and now I know why! Lol. It was outstanding! A simple dish but packs a serious punch of flavor. We had it with a side of Broccolini, and they were perfect together. I honestly forgot what dessert we ordered but I ended up getting a Greek liqueur for dessert. I don't know about you but I like to drink my dessert. Lol. Anyway, we had a fabulous time at Nesos! Great food, beautiful atmosphere, delicious drinks and overall excellent service. I was looking forward to this new high end restaurant. But it just failed, unfortunately. First, we were welcomed with a "you have a 2 hour table". Air conditioning was poor - super hot. Food. Okay, nothing special for the money. Lamp chops - basic. Wanted the norm medium rare. They came out medium/well. Sorry, we will replace one chop which came back very rare - really. Well, getting a reservation here is the first challenge. We lucked into one and off we went within 45 minutes. the staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is upscale-pleasant. People actually dress nice for dinner here. I think it's a Newport Beach thing. LOL. Prices were not shocking, food selection was somewhat limited. I had the Pathakia (lamp chops) they were tasty enough but not exceptional. The Spanakopita was excellent. My wife had the Lavraki (greek sea bass),a side of patates lemonates and lachanika. We went to Nesos for dinner. We had good expectations based on the reviews. What surprised us was that the food was very bland. I like Greek food but it was nothing we expected. One other thing is that was really irritating was that the server came to us and said he would bring some starters like bread and we said ok... he brought olive oil, olives and cheese and it was very plain. Walked into a beautiful dining room with a stunning bar where you can dine as well. Luxurious booths and a lovely patio with heaters. The restaurant encourages family style dining which is always fun. The patio tables are small (this is where I was seated for a party of 4. We did juggle our plates and glasses, but Jen helped make it all fit. Not an extensive specialty cocktail list, but a few nice options, delicious Vesper! Extensive wine list with a lovely Sommelier who stopped by for recommendations. The food was delicious. While I didn't take pictures, there were all plated and served at the same time. Need to make advance reservations for a table. We sat at the bar for early dinner. Service was excellent. The Mousaka, which is a casserole with lamb, eggplant, and potatoes, was very tasty, be great comfort food. The appetizer grilled octopus should be a Greek specialty, but was a bit chewy. My Greek friend was really looking forward to a good Greek restaurant in Newport Beach. She tried the Makronia sto Fourno, which is a traditional dish with oven baked lamb bolognese pasta. She said the lamb was fatty and was disappointed. There are still lots of other dishes like seafood that look great. The place is beautiful. Then led to our quaint table that made the restaurant feel like we were part of an exclusive party but also very inviting if that makes sense. This place was genuinely awful. I was excited to try it. They tried to squeeze too many tables into the space so if you're seated in a middle table, people are constantly bumping into you. The waiter was extremely rude - tried to rush my friend and I the entire time we were there. The food was just okay. There was a hair in my drink and the waiter seemed annoyed when I pointed it out. He begrudgingly replaced it - but brought the replacement drink as we were paying the bill. $27 for a cocktail I didn't get to drink and shouldn't have been charged for after there was a hair in it. We are Greek so we had very high expectations, maybe too high. Beautiful, romantic ambiance, but acoustics are not great. The place was very full and it's hard to converse. On the plus side, plenty of attentive staff. The food was in keeping with Newport Beach higher prices, but we were disappointed in several of the dishes, particularly the spanakopita, a mainstay. Service is absolutely horrible. The manager Roy disrespected my family, talking horribly about us when we were standing mere inches away. He was upset we arrived early and even though there were tables everywhere he wouldn't seat us, then offered us the worlds worst table on the patio that we said no thank you to. I don't like to review a restaurant that's just opened but I felt I wanted to touch on one thing. The restaurant is lovely and it was busy on a Tuesday night. There were not a lot of servers, so I felt that we were constantly having to flag someone down. It's a very upscale restaurant with prices to match. The food was delicious, everything was very fresh and beautifully presented. My one complaint was the pita bread that accompanied the dips. The dips are $35 for three small dips served with 3 triangles of pita and a few slices of a baguette. A triangle is about 1/4 of a piece of pita. When we asked for more pita, they brought their pita service and charged us for more. I'm sorry, you're a new restaurant in town. Is that the thing you want people to leave thinking about? That they got nickel and dimed on the pita? Be a sport, bring more pita to start, and have people leave thinking what a great meal they just had. read more

No parking, small table, slow service and overcooked lamb. We showed up for our 6:30 reservation and there was no parking. We got a table for 4 so small that was designed for 2 people. When dinner was served, it was an exercise in table operation management - you need an engineering degree to figure out how to organize the table layout. The service was slow - we finished at 9:15pm. Between the appetizers and salad, we waited almost 45 minutes. When I ordered a second glass of wine when my dinner arrived, we waited 20 minutes. Always excited to welcome new restaurants, and especially new varieties of food. We tried it out during the first week they were open, and it did not have the feel of a restaurant trying to figure things out. The food was great. The service was great. They did a nice job on the remodel, but they've tried to put too many tables into a small space. It feels crowded, and the noise level is such that it's hard to hear the person across the table. They've added tables to the middle of aisles and even one right in front of the reception area. Luckily, we weren't at one of those, but if we were taken to one, I wouldn't have accepted it. We stood at the side bar after coming on a Wednesday with no res. It took about 45 minutes to get seated and mngr/host had our back as we were next although the bartender Brian tried to seat another couple at the bar who came much later with no res either. He winked at us and said, " we are fair here." For some reason from the moment we got there and were told it would be 45 to an hour and please stand at the side bar, the bartender Brian was extremely rude. He seemed completely overwhelmed. My husband reached for a nearby cocktail menu and was chastised for doing so. Brian said, "if you'd only waited for me to welcome you, I was going to hand that to you." He was condescending and rushed my order, I was just trying to get an idea of how much Campari was in one of the cocktails and he kept looking at me saying twice" it's a customer favorite" without ever answering me. The drink had a lot of Campari but I didn't send it back. Other patrons saw and heard the exchange and commented that I should have said something. We paid cash for our drink while waiting and didn't receive any change. He was going to keep change on a 40 + dollar tab ( 2 cocktails) We had to ask for change. We'd given him 60 cash. I asked if cocktails were taxed and he said in very loudly, "welcome to California, where everything is taxed." What a strange response! When we were sat, it was at the bar. Another bartender who also works as a server on the floor named Jen, provided excellent service. She was professional, pleasant and attentive . Our food was wonderful. The restaurant is beautiful, the floor to ceiling wine storage is a focal point. At the end of dinner, more caught up now and possibly doing damage control, Brian the bartender walked up and asked how everything was. We said it was ok And instead of asking how it could have been better, he gave us a dirty look and stepped back, saying "just ok?!" as if we'd personally assaulted him. Worst bar experience we've ever had. Nesos may be hot now. But locals do talk and restaurants come and go. Watch out for Brian the bartender! He shouldn't be doing that job.
