I've been to Nessy's several times, in hopes that it will somehow get better. Yes, the burgers are huge, however they are always overcooked, extremely dry, and the meat has absolutely no flavor. Their breakfast sandwiches are decent, which is why this place is getting 3 stars. Outside of the fact that it is a cute little roadside burger stand, I truly do not understand what the hype is about. My buddy raved about this place so I drove out of the way here, prices are pretty steep and everything is a la carte so just ordered a nessy burger and soda. The burger came with a sliced tomato which had a sticker on it (which wasn't a big deal to me) but the burger was just plain gross, it was one of the worst burgers I had for as long as I can remember, it was just bland and tasted like a really really bad home made burger. Went there today with a couple of buddies. I ordered the Nessy burger by itself. When I got it I could see there was a lot of food. The only thing I would have improved on is the burger was very well done. This may have been my fault as I didn't order it medium as I prefer. The tomato, onion and lettuce were super fresh. The bun was really good along with the Nessy sauce. I would definitely come back as it was a quality burger. I saw lots of other folks ordering different items off the menu that I thought looked really good. If the outside seating is all taken up there are plenty of tables behind the place next to the other stores. Imagine a fresh thick beef patty with homemade 1000 island dressing fresh lettuce, thick onion slice, and tomato. Sounds great right? Now imagine trying to eat that same burger and the only place you've got to go is one of 6 tables that are SWARMING with flies and bees. :( Sadly, this potentially great burger was overshadowed by the nasty atmosphere and the mediocre customer service. Cashiers/order takers barely talk and because the location is so remote, you really only have their outdoor seating to eat. Or your car, except the burger is so messy, this option isn't good either. If I could give this place 0 stars I would do it. My husband and I had heard about this place from co workers and friends we finally tried it about 1 hr. Ago, we got the top sirloin burger and it was terrible. The meat had no flavor, it was very tough, the bread was soggy after 2 minutes or less, we had to add lots of ketchup and jalapenos so we could get some flavor out of it. Its a stretch, here's three analogies why... 1) Nessy is that "Hot Girl" at work whom you think is an 8 or 9, but in reality outside of work, she is more like a 6. 2) Nessy is that average looking chick all the guys are trying to talk to at a "sausage" party(no or few girls) 3) You thought your small town boyfriend was hot...then you saw Channing Tatum in Magic Mike... Its a pretty good burger, I won't redescribe what everyone else already has...but if this were located in the middle of San Diego, I doubt I'd pay $6.35 again for a Nessy Burger, there's better choices in SD. I think its a great place to stop if you are commuting through the area, which i occasionally do living in San Diego. Plan a stop to check it out. Order at the window, and wait for them to call your number. Seriously, it's a half pound burger, so plan to share unless you are hangry. After two visits, I've concluded that Nessy's is pretty legit. It may seem a bit steep at $8 a burger for a small fast food joint, but it's basically an In-N-Out-quality burger on steroids. The burgers here are huge and have great flavor. The cashiers don't say hello or really show any customer service skills... they just ring you up and move on. Which is whatever. If you're driving too fast on Old Highway 395, it can be easy to drive past it. And if bees or bugs bug you, then be prepared to eat in your car... they'll get you regardless of where you sit, unfortunately. read more

These burgers are the bee's knees! They are extremely juicy and delicious. Anyone who says otherwise doesn't know quality. The parties are huge and the lettuce, tomato, and onion all taste fresh. Although it can a bit pricey, it's totally worth it. The burgers are large, the order of fries is large, basically you get your monies worth. There's also a market in the same shopping center, and I usually go there to buy a drink. They're super cheap. But I believe they charge extra if you use a credit/debit card, so make sure to pack some cash! read more

Yesterday on my way back from Temecula to San Diego I thought, "ya know what?" And, I then answered myself and said... I know what you're thinking. OK, so what am I thinking? And so here's how it went... I stopped in at "Nessy Burgers" for what I (remembered) and that's the (key) word here... what (once was) THE best hamburger I had ever enjoyed in my life. BUT... (that was 12+ years ago) when they used to have that tinny little trailer out next to the roadway and it was from THAT (memory) that I decided to go there again to their (new) location which I had never been to. As with EVERYTHING in life that was ONCE GREAT...the burgers now suck and cost a LOT MORE AS WELL! In FACT... DOUBLE!! For one thing, there is only one area to sit down and eat at and that is the fixed tables on their outdoor patio that is open-aired! Every fly from ten miles distance hangs out on THAT ONE patio... AND! THEY... get to have your food BEFORE YOU DO! I don't know about you... but swatting flies while trying to take a bit out something that is WAY, WAY, WAY TOO LARGE to take a bit out of... is NOT my idea of anything that even approaches (pleasurable)! I don't know what happened to this place over the past 12+ years, since I was last there at their tiny trailer as it was (beforehand) but someone in the ownership of this business got the bright idea to make their burgers about 9 inches across and around 4 inches high. AND... even though they still use good-grade meat, the burger is literally tasteless, way too big and I give it an overall rating of -1. So... in all rightful honesty, I will NEVER be going there again, NOT EVER! AND... There was a time when I would actually drive the 100 miles ROUND TRIP from San Diego JUST to get a Nessy Burger a long, long time ago... but that will not EVER be taking place again. This place has a long way to go before I would even conceive of going there ever again. I cannot recommend to ANYONE to go to Nessy Burgers (like I use to rave about. Sorry! The burgers and fries are okay. The patties are big and somewhat bland. The fries are nothing to really tell my friends about, large crinkle cut fries and the chili doesn't wow you. When sitting down to eat we were attacked by flies, obviously the time of year. There is always a line of people and huge fan base for Nessy Burger but I think it's mostly because there isn't an in-n-out close by or any other burger place. I didn't really want to stop here for lunch today with the outside temperature about 100 degrees. All their tables are outdoors. I was thinking more of eating lunch in an air conditioned environment. But, my subordinates outnumbered me. So, we stopped here for lunch. I've been here twice in the last 4 months. The first time was with my subordinate, the gringo. Since I hired him, I made him pay. The gringo graciously got me the Nessy burger. The burger was big. It had a lot of meat. It came with lettuce, tomatos and onion. They had salt, pepper, thousand island dressing, and ketchup at the counter in case you wanted more flavoring. It was a very good burger. The second time was today with 3 of my subordinates, the gringo, the redneck and the college educated guy. I should have made them pay for my lunch again, but, I didn't. The redneck lives about 20-30 minutes away from this place. He comes here often. He told us to order from their secret menu. So, I ordered the "Trucker Burger" which is a Nessy burger wtih 2 fried eggs on top. With thousand dressing, ketchup and a little bit of salt, this was a very good and messy burger. It was messier than any Carls Jr. burger that I have ever had. I couldn't fit the burger in my mouth. The burger left my hands greasy. Grease and sauce were all over my face.
