Your run of the mill, standard menu, Chinese buffet. Nothing was particularly good even for a general Chinese buffet place. We arrived just before the dinner prices, but they took at least 8 dishes away (that were available for lunch guests that were still eating) and replaced them with dinner dishes, with a sign put in front of each one of them saying that the items were for dinner guests only. I understand that some people might try to take advantage of the system by coming in for lunch prices and then eating dinner items, but I think there must be a better solution than removing options for customers who just happened to have walked in the door at the lunch price time. It's not like the place was busy. I think a better business decision would be to just let whoever is in the restaurant at the time, eat whatever food you are putting out. It's not like allowing this will somehow put you out of business. read more

Horrible customer service !!! First they tried to tell my my baby wasn't 2 years old and charged me for him anyway so I said fine and paid anyway because I didn't want to argue, then as I'm walking out a worker chased me out and accused me of not paying even though I had my receipt in my hand !!! This was our first visit here in a number of years. We've been going to another buffet not too far away from this one, but the other place never had very good service and the quality of the food was in a spiraling decline, so we decided to come back here. The food was all good, and more importantly, everything was at the right temperature. In fact, I went to line, got some orange chicken and rice, and when I made it back to my table, I had to wait a few minutes for the chicken to cool off! And as for the service, it was amazing...we were greeted at the door by a smiling young lady and taken to a table with no delays. The two young men who were handling the drinks and keeping the used plates cleared were very friendly and fast. In fact, I joked to my wife that the used plates were gone so quickly that I didn't have time to put my empty sweetener packets on them! In all, it was a great visit, and we'll be going back. Oh, I almost forgot...placards on the tables said that they have a special for seniors on Tuesday: Buy one buffet and get the second buffet for 50% off. Went there today for Mother's Day. There was 5 of us and ran into 2 friends who happened to walk in. We have been there several times including 2 weeks ago. The bill has been always around the same which was $120 or a little less. The 2 friends that showed up after us asked for a separate check and sat down by us and we all enjoyed our dinner. The bill came and they put it all on one check and the total was over $180. We explained that it was separate checks but they would not correct it. On top of it all, instead of it being $18.99 for dinner, they bumped it up to $21.99 cause it's Mothers Day. They said because they were serving crab legs that it was higher but 2 weeks ago they were serving crab legs as well without an increase. They also stuck us with an $19 gratuity because we were 7 people even though it was suppose to be separate checks but they would not take it off. I am usually not a huge buffet fan but thought I would give this place a chance. Went here for lunch with friends around 12:30 and I must say I was actually quite impressed. The servers kept bringing out fresh food and their seafood was very delicious. They have American dishes as well as Chinese/Japanese dishes too. Not a big sushi fan but the sushi bar was very exquisite as well. And there dessert bar seemed pretty endless for something to choose from. This is your standard Chinese Buffet. For $10 for a buffet that includes multiple seafood options, can't complain too much. Though majority of things used imitation crab or Krab. Souplantation charges $9 and they don't have meat. Items to try: Fried Plantains, salmon sushi, and boiled shrimp. I've never seen fried plantains at an Asian buffet, but it was really good. After soaking up some of the oil with my napkin it was yummy. The plantains were ripe, so it was golden from the caramelization of the sugar. Usually I avoid sushi at buffets, but I saw that the plate was just replaced so I tried it. It wasn't bad though the fish was sliced thin and they tried to fill you up on the rice. I made a sauce concoction of lemon juice and soy sauce. The shrimp was freshly boiled and put on a bed of ice. The things I liked most were items that didn't require too much prep. Items to avoid: stuffed mushrooms, wontons, some kinda steamed fish Just don't do it. Service was good. Waiters/waitresses stopped by to refill our glasses and take away plates. I had set my expectations low and so it was met. I probably won't come back here on my own but I would definitely recommend it to people looking for a Chinese buffet with an American flair. read more

Can we just talk about the fact that when you walk in it smells SO BAD, extremely fishy (and not in a good way). The food was greasy. My favorite thing though was the egg drop soup. That was good. However, the time I spent in the bathroom trying to recover from what I ate at this place was not worth that. As I'm enjoying my meal, this rude lady running the front counter with the register, Jen, She comes up to my table and informs me that if I'm going to eat the sushi, I must eat the rice also, I don't like rice. Now before Jen came up to my table and informed me of this, I stood around waiting for them to get more fried shrimp. I asked the Asian lady putting out the trays if she could put some out and she just walked by my and said (no English), rudely! I didn't care because anyone can be having a bad day at work, I ignored it and continued to go to my table and eat. That's when Jen came up and told me about the rice. Now I'm 50 years old and I have been eating at buffets all of my life and I have NEVER been told that! To top of the evening at NEW CENTURY BUFFET, as I'm paying, Jen was at the register. On my way out she called me a PIG. I will NEVER eat here again. The food is bland with no taste. The hostess, JEN, is very rude. I'm not sure the whole shrimp that was on the floor under my chair was dropped by the previous patron, or merely making a break for the door. I'm also not sure, that, after scooping it up in a napkin, and handing it to our (pleasant, but hardly visible) server, the poor beast didn't end up back in the serving tray. No Sapporo, no Tsing, no beer at all. I settled for a syrupy, but barely carbonated 'sprite' that turned out to compliment the food perfectly. It turned out to be a blessing that I was never offered a single refill. If you decide to try this place out, plan on going for the generic, but decent sushi rolls, have some salads, then proceed directly to the soft serve and call it a night...there's really nothing very interesting in between. TBH the food wasn't anything amazing, but it was good for AYCE. I had my fair share for a low price. The servers are quick to refill your drink, the food is just about the same you would find at any other AYCE Chinese buffet in San Diego. My husband & I came in on Mother's Day & had a $2 off per adult dinner coupon. When I went to pay they wouldn't let me use it since Mother's Day is considered a Holiday. Above the coupon shows what hours it can be used (which I checked before we got there) but I was told it cannot be used on holidays. There was very small print under the coupon which is very misleading. The staff just said they couldn't accept it even though they didn't see the fine print at first. I tried out this buffet during lunch time, and I love Chinese food so I had high hopes. However, the food was poorly prepared and tasted like it had been left out for hours. The sushi was stale. There weren't many options to choose from believe it or not, and they started putting out food labeled "dinner guests only," when it was still early in the day which makes no sense to me. When I went to the restroom, 2/3 of the stalls weren't flushed and the 3rd had a huge puddle surrounding the toilet. There were no paper towels or a hand dryer. I wouldn't recommend this place because of how unsanitary it is alone, but the quality of food is also extremely poor. read more

Wanted to give this place a second chance and the food was much better in quality, temperature and presentation. HOWEVER: Both the womens and men's bathrooms were absolutely filthy and disgusting - and it wasn't just that day's mess. It really makes me wonder what the kitchen is like behind those swinging doors! The place was so grubby I contacted the SD County Dept of Health which is very very responsive. They thanked me for contacting them, inspected the place, and wrote them up on several violations, some pretty serious. I'm still not willing to give it another shot... read more

Had a nice lunch with some family here today. As usual, everything was great--the food, the service, and the atmosphere. It was everything a AYCE Chinese Buffet should be, and then some. Food was fresh and was bursting with flavor. I loved everything I tried, with the exception of the beef & broccoli; the beef had a very soft texture, but I'm not knocking off a star over personal preference. The cheese-stuffed mushrooms are heaven, and the fried dumplings were perfect--not too hard, and not soggy. My daughter and brother in law tried the sushi bar and were very satisfied as well. We will likely be making this our go-to buffet restaurant. read more

Food is excellent, Even though we got a rubber band in my kid's plate. A little disappointed but understandable since kitchen pace is fast. And another time there was a hair in the orange chicken between the dough (so this time they were not able to blame on customers) so the manager gave me a small discount like $3 dollars; I was expecting more for the inconvenience but looks like 3 dollar is a lot of money where they come from.
