It's always a toss up when ordering take out. It's either great, or absolutely terrible. Missing items, incorrect items, etc. I highly advise against ordering a protein+veg entree as the vegetables are always raw, just heated up slightly. And I especially advise against ordering the shrimp and veg (I had ordered chicken and received shrimp...) because every piece of shrimp was very undercooked...so, thanks for the meal prep? I'm not a big Chinese food fan but I often get talked into going and don't mind it as much as I can make my own easy choices as to what I put on my plate. I like this place... It's big and the staff is friendly. All the food taste good to me and seems to be of quality and freshly prepared. It's very clean and sharp looking in there. The staff is a little eager to come and grab your plates off the table so don't leave any food expecting it to be there when you come back. It's a Chinese buffet and as they go I don't see why anyone could be disappointed in this place. They also serve alcohol and have an ice cream booth where you scoop your own ice cream. read more

I came wanting a delicious Chinese buffet. I left feeling like I just ate at Golden Corral. Enter New China Buffet: the dining room is very clean and modern. The buffet area features five gigantic tables that encompass half of the restaurant. Five tables?! I was excited to try a variety of Asian offerings. Sadly, you won't find that here, regardless of "China" being in the name. The majority of the food at this buffet was American. Not Chinese American, but pizza, french fries, stuffed mushrooms, even apple pie. A third of the food was what you'd expect to find at a Chinese buffet, but very little of it was appetizing. Chinese staples like sesame chicken were half the size of other buffets and were very chewy. The stir fries didn't look at all appetizing. I was intrigued by the sushi buffet, but the varieties were just California Rolls cut into different shapes. There was a Salmon Roll that used canned salmon instead of smoked, and I'm pretty sure the Tempura Roll was just deep fried cream cheese with spicy mayo. A few items were good though: - Rice noodles - Crab Ragoon - Egg Roll & Spring Roll - Thai green beans - Cheesey Crab (although I question how this is Chinese) I was rather disappointed with the lack of Asian food at the buffet, and finding things like the rice noodles placed next to cheese sticks and BBQ ribs. Disturbing, non-Chinese food I saw: - "Chinese" spinach: mozzarella and canned spinach - Weenie Tots / Pigs in a Blanket - Fried Catfish - Fried Bananas (Avoid! These tasted awful and were hard. Bananas get mushy when cooked... how did this happen!?) - An entire table of Jello puddings with various fruit or marshmallows - A full salad bar, like you'd find at Frisch's - Stuffed mushrooms, sauteed mushrooms, and diced mushrooms (yes, all these in three different bins) - BBQ ribs, fried ribs, and ribs on a stick Most of the customers here were eating food that was not Chinese. If you desire Chinese, don't start at one end and work your way around. The Asian food is located at the table furthest from the door, and you'll find a few random things (like rice) scattered around next to the Mac n' Cheese. I really wanted to like New China Buffet, but sadly, it fell short. It's location is very convenient off I-471, in the Newport Pavilion development that now houses both a Kroger Marketplace and Target. Since it's near big box retail, the parking options are ample. Inside, space was equally abundant. The interior is shiny and new, and there are two very large dining rooms. They have both tables and booths, which I always appreciate. Both the hostess and our server were friendly, and I got similar smiles from other staff. The buffet is centrally located between the two, with a hibachi grill, sushi bar, ice cream cooler, and several askew buffet rows filled with both Asian and "International" cuisine. Unfortunately, the food itself is where things started falling apart. They really had more from the International cuisine selection than Asian-- an entire area for salads, plus pizza, quiche, macaroni & cheese, potato skins, cheese sticks, chicken tenders, gelatin squares, various puddings, ice creams, and so on. Diversity might be a welcome addition for picky eaters if the Asian selection was equally ample and tasty. However, the buffet lacked some very basic staples (no honey, bourbon, or orange chicken?!). Other basics like egg rolls, chicken with broccoli, and fried rice were done poorly, and despite being in the middle of the busy lunchtime rush, a majority of the food was lukewarm to cold. Even great food struggles with taste when it isn't kept at temperature (and it also can make you sick). Lastly, the sushi bar, which presented a nice selection, was filled with browned, off-putting vegetables. Some highlights? The Crab Rangoon were pretty tasty (and hot), as were the spring rolls. I also liked the Sweet & Sour Chicken, but I was amiss for finding the coordinating dipping sauce, an essential part. In the end, lunch for our family of four was less than $25! Which, I guess is an impressive deal, even if I only consumed water and appetizers. Meh. read more

This place serves a purpose, but it would be a mistake to say that it serves good quality Chinese food. I've had my fair share of meals at this restaurant, however, I only go when I have a serious craving for Chinese food but do not want to commit to just one dish. In those moments, I buckle and head to New China Buffet. The buffet offers a decent spread of food. They have a shockingly large amount of seafood-based dishes (which I tend to stay away from), but I have eaten the sushi from the self-serve sushi bar. While it scares the crap out of me that (a) the sushi has perhaps been sitting out for a while and (b) some other customer may have contaminated it before I got there, I've never died or gotten sick so I keep eating it. Not the best sushi in the world but it'll do. My favorite thing about the place is that I have an unusual obsession with crab ragoons and I can eat them until I'm stuffed to the gills at this place. Makes me happy. I may be tempted to give the restaurant one more star if the food was cheaper but honestly, I think $9.99 is kinda expensive for this buffet. I'm down with eating shitty Chinese food from time to time, but it can't be more expensive than eating at Taco Bell! Disclaimer: We do not come here for the service. My family goes to this place at least once a month, if not more, and it is not because the servers are friendly or attentive. (This also might be a language/culture barrier). The coconut shrimp is what gives me life; ONLY AVAILABLE AT DINNER, NOT LUNCH. Between that and the sauteed green beans, which are always fresh and not overcooked, I have everything I need. I have never been impressed by the desserts but I'm usually too stuffed to eat anything else anyway. I had Sunday lunch with my family and bit into something that chipped my tooth. I approached the person at the front counter to let him know what happened he looked and laughed and said no way! I asked to speak with a manager who was not in the office and the cashier called the person who was supposed to be the manager who said just take my bill away and pay for the other three people who were at the table. I agree but when I get ready to leave the cashier help me said to get out of the store and he charge me for a store meal. The lobby was four pack the time I was quite humiliating and embarrassing. I paid for the ticketTotal asked him to call the manager again. He said he was the manager and if I didn't get out of that restaurant he was going to call the police and have me arrested. If it was OK but the humiliation and embarrassment was not worth the mail and my tooth is still chipped. Shame shame shame on this restaurant. read more

I've been going here for a couple of years now. The employees are generally nice (besides one guy in particular, who doesn't work there anymore), and the food is always great. I always get plenty of octopus (check the salad bar!), crab rangoon, and sushi; but the one outstanding feature is egg fu young! It's long been one of my favorites, and I've never seen another buffet that has it. Add in the $1 coupon on Valpak, and it's definitely a great place to go. I'd actually give it 4 1/2 stars, if I could; it only doesn't get five because their ice cream selection has become quite inconsistent, over the past year or so. It would also be nice if there were tomatoes and/or bleu cheese dressing on the salad bar, but hey, there's only so much room. read more

Good service, i'm not saying that it's the best Chinese cuisine that you'll ever get but they have good service and it's a clean environment. I showed up on a Monday evening and asked if they have a certain steak and barbecue sauce option that I like when I go there, at first they said yes it will be out And then once it didn't arrive out, The man told me that they didn't have it tonight. A few minutes later a different man came out and asked me about the food I wanted and personally went in and made my own dish for me and brought to me. You just won't get that kind of service anywhere, I have been going there for a few years and will continue especially after they took care of me. There are 3 oriental buffets in Campbell County that i know of & so far this one is the better of them. i try to avoid sit-down buffets because i tend to overindulge, so i usually just get the carry-out buffet.(more later) all 3 of the buffets offer similar faire but this one had more to choose from (ie-sushi, a grill, decent salad & dessert bar, more choices of soups and such) the location is good as well as the parking & staff and the atmosphere was well lit and coupons were available to save some money. one last thing about the carry-out buffet , it is buy-the-box instead of by-the-pound, which i prefer. read more

I think this place falls below that standard. I'd say it was not quite worth the ten/eleven dollars paid to eat there. The staff was friendly and attentive, but a bit spacey. Last time I came I said I wouldn't come back. For some reason my brother and I decided to come here again, I tried about everything and didn't like any of it but the Pepsi I drank. I found a little hair in the shrimp , sushi is old and looks mysterious, general Tso chicken really tough to chew and everything is greasy. Don't even come near the ice cream because it looks disgusting. And also after we paid the waitress comes to our table and points at her "tip" to make sure we leave her a good tip ... weird . Edible? Yes. Good? No. Decided to come here despite the mixed reviews because, well... I like american chinese food and I really wanted some. It started out great when we found a coupon for here on the back of a Kroger receipt before we came. After that... the food just didn't hold up. Part of the problem may have been because we came about an hour and a half before close, but there were still quite a few people there and still coming in. Anyways... The good: The sweet and sour chicken was good. It was all white meat and tasted fine. That may have been because it is a popular item so they kept bringing out more, but that was good. Also those donuts they have... you can't go wrong with dough a sugar. The bad: I guess everything else. A lot of the food had been sitting out and stirred occasionally. For the general tsao's chicken, they just bring out new chicken and mix it with the sauce that is currently in there, gross. The rice was greasy, along with the lo mein and most other dishes. The pot stickers literally looked like there was a piece of poo inside of them. I'm assuming this is from the pot stickers being cooked so much in the warming tray and its what the meat did, but after cutting into the pot sticker i lost most of the appetite for them. Besides the sweet and sour chicken there may have been a bright spot here and there, but it definitely doesn't stick out compared to everything else that wasn't good. I don't care how many coupons Kroger gives me, I don't plan on coming back unless my american chinese food craving comes storming back and I can't live on without eating it... but still there has to be better options.. read more

How have I not reviewed this place yet?? Not the best desserts or sushi or the largest selection but their dumplings and rangoons trump everything! My go-to Chinese takeout place. I always get take out here--8 dumplings for $3.95 and 8 giant crab rangoons for $3.95. Can't beat the prices, it's easy to order online for pickup, and everyone is super friendly. This is one of the better "Chinese" buffets in the area. While that isn't saying much, i will say that the food is fairly good quality, plentiful and, quite frankly, delicious. Standouts include the Rose Chicken...which is absolutely scrumptious. They also have a stir fry station where you can get exactly what you want...always a plus. With so many items on the buffet, they have to make their money with volume - and there are indeed plenty of seats. They're located right next to the new Krogers over in Newport, just off I-471.....you can see it from the highway. read more

I hadn't' has Chinese in a while and, after shopping with my neighbor and her daughter at the nearby Target, decided to head over and give New China Buffet a try. I was excited that they had sushi in addition to the usual buffet items but the sushi tasted like it had been sitting out all day. Not only did it taste terrible, but the variety or lack thereof was disappointing. There were California rolls and something with an unidentifiable fish as well as tuna, salmon, and whitefish nigiri. I had picked up a piece with Tuna and spit it out. The tuna was crusty on the edges from being exposed to air for so long. Yuck! The Chinese food was mediocre at best. the lo mien and rice noodle dish were edible but a little greasy. In addition to the noodles there was only one other vegetarian Chinese dish, green beans, which tasted on par with everything else we ate. My neighbor's daughter tried the pepper steak and couldn't chew it. You know the food is bad when a mother tells her 5 year old she doesn't have to eat anything on her plate. My friend ended up eating salad because it was all she could stomach. The salad bar was also a disappointment though. There was quite a variety of dressings, but only iceberg lettuce, onions, croutons, and cheese. No other typical salad fixings were on the buffet. Bottom line: If you're craving Chinese, pick another place. I can't imagine anything could be worse than this one. read more

I went to pay the bill of $28.14 with my debit card and marked out where the tip goes because I had left it on the table. Went to check my account and when the charges posted to my bank account the young man who waited on us decided to add $4 tip to the bill. Won't be back to this dishonest restaurant. Every time that I've come in here, I've had a great experience. Granted, this is a Buffet, but what do you expect? I like coming here, because my husband is a big eater and I can feed him a lot on the cheap. This is also much better eating than McDonalds food wise. The wait staff is always nice and efficient. Late Easter Sunday dinner and my wife and I could not find any of our favorite places open. So lets try the New China Buffet in the Newport Pavilion. Hostess met us at the entrance with a quick courteous smile. She seated us at a clean large table too our drink order and directed us to the large and ample Buffet area. I really do not know anything about authentic Chinese food. But I do like to sample things that look hot and tasty. Plenty to choose from. We enjoyed it all, two servings plus desert. My water glass stayed full and the used dishes cleared promptly. Maybe a little ticket shock at $29 including tip. Another plus was the hostess continued to seat folks right up to closing time and fresh hot food kept coming out until every one was served. read more

I know what to expect from Chinese Buffets. I don't go in expecting the best meal of my life, but today I went into New China Buffet and I left severely underwhelmed. The food here is almost inedible. I hate to say that, I really do. None of their dishes taste how they should. My boyfriend eats almost anything and likes it, but when he tried the pad thai he had to put it down. This was shocking so I tried a bite and almost gagged. I don't know what they believe Pad Thai is supposed to taste like but this tasted like pasta that had sat in ruined smoked meat. The fried rice was hard and the sushi was cold/hard as well. I honestly feel terrible for giving such a bad review, but I could only stomach eating the egg drop soup and the crab puffs. I got myself 3 plates and everything I tried I took a bite of and said "nope". I left hungry and $15 poorer. That being said, the crab puffs were really good! read more
