Pretty good Sichuan food by Vancouver standards, with mediocre service and high prices. Most of the bad reviews from this place are from people who ordered non-Sichuan dishes (e.g., soup dumplings) and then complained the dishes were mediocre or went to Sichuan place when they didn't want Sichuan food (e.g., people complaining that the food is oily, which is like going to a fried chicken place and then complaining that your chicken was greasy from being fried). I can't say that I'm a fan of the mediocre service or high prices, but I'll take good food with mediocre service over mediocre food with great service, and if you want Sichuan food in this neighborhood, this is as good as you're going to get and, unfortunately, high prices are pretty much par for the course in the neighborhood. BTW, if you're looking for super intense ma la flavor, you'll have to ask them for it since their default is for the flavor to be relatively mild. You might say that, as a Szechuan place, this should be a mark against them and I'd agree, but if you're looking for Szechuan food in the area, the options are pretty thin. read more

To be honest, the food is not bad, it's an fairly authentic Sichuan cuisine. Came here with 6 people, ordered over 220 dollars of food, which was barely enough to eat. The restaurant was empty at that time, but the server (an old lady) was extremely rude, and rarely answers to our call. Meh! A lot of money for a mediocre dinner. The room feels like 1980, overlit and well used everything. Ordered the Xiaolongbao dumplings, they were pretty good, not the best ever, but I would not send them back. Cucumber and shrimp dish was disappointing; think high school cafeteria food... okay let's not - suffice to say, this is a definite pass on the menu. On an up note the tan tan noodles were really good. Spiced nice, great flavours. I guess if you know what you are after, you can put together a decent meal, but if your newbie and just spin the wheel you're taking your chances....like Las Vegas, you are often throwing your money away. read more

Had family dinner night here recently. We wanted Chinese and was hoping to find something regionally specific to the area of Chinese that they were familiar with and I suggested this place. I've always wanted to go here, but never really found the time. Now is the time! Chonging is the right place to go to in this part of town if you are looking for Szechaun spicy food. Although we felt that the flavours were a bit blended and not quite as spicy as we were looking for. The food was spicy hot, but not quite the Szechuan peppercorn spicy. The kind that makes your tongue and lips numb kinda spicy. We had thousand year old duck egg soup with melon, Spicy green Cho sum vegetables with szechuan pepper corns, Eggplant dish, Boiling beef and a Chinese bacon with vegetables and chili peppers. I can't name or even attempt to write the proper names of the dishes. I'll have to ask the daughter unit about that and get her to help me write these descriptions more often. The food was tasty, but we kinda felt that it was adjusted a teensy bit for others who maybe aren't used to this style of food. But if you want spicy, hot spicy, they can make it that way. It's just not the same kinda spicy we wanted. We will come back though as the food is delicious and probably the best thing in this area for Chinese food in general. read more

Just like the flavor original back to Sichuan. I'd like to include Gong Bao chicken. You can find that every Chinese restaurant in Canada has this one, but at this restaurant, you can eat the most delicious chicken with Sichuan style. read more

TL;DR - Order the smoked duck. Please. Not the cheapest place in town, but they do have a few hidden gems on the menu aside from the standard spicy Szechuan dishes. I came here as a party of 3, and ordered some blanched vegetables with garlic, dumplings, and the smoked duck, along with a healthy portion of white rice. The smoked duck is amazing. I'd give this place 5 stars alone for the duck. The smoky flavor is really pronounced, the duck doesn't come out too dry, and the buns accompanying the duck are lightly sweetened and complement the intense flavor of the duck very well. It might take a while to prepare, but it's 100% worth the wait. Dumplings and vegetables were standard fare, nothing special. read more

Do not recommend! Went there the other day with my friend. The two of us ordered two meat dish and a vegetable dish. The food was okay but was covered in oil. The service was second to none but thats not the worst part. When we were leaving we were in a hurry. The person at the counter showed us the bill, which said $120!!! My friend paid his part first and then me. After giving tips my bill came to a whopping $70!! I didn't have time to stay and ask why so I just left. I do not understand why and I will never ever come back ever again. For $120 for two we should have had food covered in gold. Never going back. read more

I had a dinner with friends last week at this restaurant. The dish was satisfactory, as well as the price (6 people $180). However, the service was the worst I've ever encountered in Vancouver. While we were having rice, we found that there were no spoons so someone asked for. The server replied "Why do you need spoons for rice?" in an unfriendly manner, which shocked us . After meal during the check out. I asked the cashier to split the bill into 6, and the lady dragged out a calculator, throwing it on the counter and asked me to do it. That was really rude and disappointing, despite finally we paid 10% tip. Service at this restaurant annoyed me quite a lot. Unless invited by others, I would NEVER go to this restaurant again. read more

As native people in Szechuan, this one is really good. The best Szechuan restaurant that I have been to. Soooo good!

Terrible Dining Experience We ordered 3 dishes. One, beef with broccoli was mediocre. it had a basic flat brown sauce taste but the sauce was at last half oil, floating across the plate. The other two dishes were flat out weird. String beans that were not fresh, served with an absurdly salty pickled tasting pork that had a sharp, almost unhealthy taste. The most bizarre part of the meal was getting a round of ice water that was clearly contaminated with something. (soap, perhaps?) We complained. The waiter brought us another round which tasted the same. Seriously, something is wrong here... I lived in Asia for years and traveled extensively in China so, sorry, this isn't just a westerner who doesn't understand the native cuisine. Just bad food prep and bad management. read more

My favourite authentic Sichuan restaurant in the lower mainland. I always go when I'm in the area. Their dishes taste like it's straight out of a restaurant in Chongqing. Love their mouth watering chicken, spicy boiled fish, twice cooked pork. So so so good! read more

Unbelievable disappointing by typical Chinese restaurant standards. The prices were higher than usual - which is usually just an inconvenience, but I was shocked at their portion sizes. They were minute compared to any other restaurant and as frugal as possible despite ordering one of the more expensive dishes. Next, the green beans dish, one I personally relish, was the worst I've ever had. For a $14 platter it was undeniably bland. Eating it singularly with rice showed that even the rice had more flavour. It was so radically despicable that honestly I was so surprised, because I've never seen this dish so poorly executed anywhere else. On another note, one of the waitresses was blatantly arrogant and treated my party of 3 with a superbia complex. She gave us the cold shoulder with no smiles, no manners, eternally pursed lips, and an evident reluctancy/contempt when serving us. She was probably related to the owner, as she didn't wear proper clothing like the other waitresses. Overall, everything felt very cheap for the price and the service was barely satisfactory. Would not come again. Be wary. read more
