3* and a half I love to try new place and this place is worth for a visit. I recommend scallop and stone grill beef. The scallop dish (I can not remember the specific name) was awesome. The scallop meat was put one a shell, top with crab meat and sauce. There is a candle under the shell to keep the dish warm. This dish actually is the best one among all other four dishes that I tried. The stone grill beef is absolutely a brand for this store. It has a large portion and I think its size is for 2 people, but the restaurant recommends for 1. The taste for this dish is mediocre. I also had Ginza special for the drink. Sorry can't recommend New Ginza this time either. Last time we went was for our traditional NYE dinner of sushi probably 4-5 years ago. Wasn't a good experience from a quality standpoint. Decided to give them another shot. Called last Tuesday to make reservations for outdoor seating. We were told they aren't accepting reservations, it's first come first served. Tried this place on a whim today. Got the Idaho roll and the tropical roll. Friends of mine got some other dishes. The rolls I had were pretty good. Nothing bad but nothing to write home about either. The small Greek salad that came with it was really subpar and the dressing was a little too tangy. I did like the clean atmosphere and the waitstaff was really friendly. The price for two rolls was about $11. I would go back to this restaurant as it was a quick meal for the right price and I didn't go there for greek salad that they threw in so I can't judge it on that. read more

097 / 100 - 2018 YELP 100 CHALLENGE. This review is entirely based off of my take out experiences - I haven't had the chance to eat in the restaurant yet! I've ordered from New Ginza at least twice now and each experience has been pretty good! I've yet to find a place in Boston where I REALLY enjoy the sushi, but it does pretty well in satisfying any cravings that I might have. Most of the time, I will order the following: - Tamago - Pink Lady - Rainbow Maki/Roll - Gyoza I like to make sure that my orders are on the lighter side - I don't like it when they are too heavy with the sauce or anything like that. I tried the scallion pancake once and it was VERY greasy, so I would not recommend that if you are sensitive to overly oily stuff. The gyoza I always get steamed, so I was ok on that front. Ingredients are, for the most part, good. They aren't brand spanking new, but they're not week old fish either. My sister and BIL have both gotten the sashimi, which are also pretty decent. Again, not the highest quality fish, but good enough. We don't expect too much out of sushi restaurants here in the East Coast haha. It is priced pretty fairly, imo, for the quality that you get. This was our second time at New Ginza and though we weren't that impressed the first time we went we decided to give it another try because we were craving sashimi and they open late. Everything was okay, not too bad but not good either. I did like the spring rolls but again they were average spring rolls that I could get somewhere else easily. The reason for our two star review is the waitress constantly hovered over our table and though they close at 10pm at 9:30 she kept walking and standing by our table clearly pressuring us to leave. We couldn't even finish our beers because she made us feel so uncomfortable. We had already paid too but every other minute she would come over and stand by our table. Lastly, we both woke up the next day with an upset stomach so we definitely won't be going back again. read more

For the location (Newton), and it's close proximity to my home, it will probably be my go to joint for sushi; although i rather trek to Toraya or Daikanayama. I can only comment on the vegetable sushi since I'm a vegetarian, but as far as that goes, I really like this place! I'm always excited when a sushi place has "interesting" vegetable rolls--you know, other than the usual suspects of cucumber, avocado, Idaho, etc. I've tried their "Mixed Greens Roll" which has a paper thin roll of tofu skin (not inari) on the outside and a mix of cooked and crunchy veggies inside, with a creamy yuzu mayo on top. So good! They also have some fruit based ones that look intriguing. They have a two veggie soup options--one they describe has having a "flavorful broth" (we'll see about that) and the other is a Miso Ramen with Spinach. Can't wait to try these to see how they are. Came here once and was impressed with the generous portions of fish served in the sushi. Sushi was solid in terms of flavor and creativity but we ultimately still felt the experience was overpriced compared to some other area sushi spots. Brought my mom here a few days ago to celebrate Mother's Day as I working Sunday night and we really enjoyed it. Parking can be tricky but we managed to get a spot out front which started the night off on the right foot. It was 5:30 on a Friday night, we made a reservation but didn't need it as it was on the earlier side. We were excited to see an Oyster Happy Hour sign - only $1 each every day 4:30-6:30 - so we started with a half dozen. We also ordered the Crab Rangoons. Both apps were super fresh. Their drink selection is rather small but so is their "full bar". We split the Lobster Maki, Volcano Maki and Chicken Pad Thai. Both makis were outta this world. The lobster maki wasn't skimpy at all, with lobster inside AND out! The volcano maki was served warm, unlike any I've ever had - must get! The pad thai was good but nothing special. Service was really great and I'm a hard critic. I can't believe we haven't been here before - we'll be back soon! read more

I remember watching this restaurant transform from a hole-in-the-wall Chinese food restaurant to the amazing New Ginza storefront many moons ago. Dare I say, the quality and taste sushi-wise is probably the best of what Watertown has to offer. A touch on the pricey side compared to the others, but that's well made up for with how delicious everything is. I'd say it's a medium-sized restaurant since it has the 2nd seating room area to its side, and although it gets rather crowded and loud at lunch and dinner, the waitstaff is incredibly attentive. I could rave all day about their sushi, but one of the unsung heroes on their menu is the pork katsu (tonkatsu). I always find the slices to be moist and delicious, never dry, and the breading nearly perfect. And an example of how expensive they can be (but delicious) is their lunchtime Bento box. You'll definitely be getting your money's worth! If I could give them a 4.5 star I would - the half-star loss is due to their prices only. The food is always fresh, great quality and the service definitely matches. I've never had a bad experience and everyone is just so nice. I've had just about everything here but we usually start with the fried calamari (one of the best I've ever had) or seaweed salad - sometimes both. All of their sushi is Amazing and I always leave satisfied and full. You really can't go wrong with anything on their menu. Their bento boxes on the weekend is perfect also. I love the ambiance. Perfect for a first date, or even a group of friends. You can have as much privacy as needed in one of their booths, or you can choose a table or sit at the sushi bar. Oh, Ginza. I almost feel bad leaving 2 stars, because the sushi quality is most definitely fine, and I've never gotten sick here or anything. But, everytime I've either left dissatisfied, or full but out a solid $45+. I used to come semi-regularly when I worked within walking distance, and then made the drive with some sushi-craving coworkers a few times. They typically order the boat, which is definitely large, but pricey. Plus, you don't get the flexibility of choosing the rolls you'd like(as you could at somewhere nearby like, say, Yamato. ahem) I've also heard rumors they charge for soda refills, so if you drink 3 cokes, beware: it'll cost ya about $7. Yet the green tea is free. Odd. For the prices, cuts of fish could be more generous. Head to Super Fusion instead. read more

Good quality sushi. My husband and I have tried many sushi places and this is one of the top sushi places nearby. Everything we ordered was good. A bit pricey but worth it for the quality. We only tried the sushi specialty rolls, so can't comment on the other menu items, but as far as sushi, the Patriots Roll, Watertown Maki, Saba, and Saba Midnight Maki were all good. I usually came here for one of the freshest raw fishes for sashimi and nigiri. They don't serve a particular fish if it's not fresh anymore. That's what I like about them. And compare to other sushi restaurants, they're slightly cheaper so it's really worth it. Besides their sashimi, they have a great variety of food choices. I recommend, for appetizers, try their scallop hokkayaki it's really good with the mayonnaise sauce mixed and fried gyoza. Their una-ju (unagi with rice) is also tasty with their special sweet sauce. The Nabeyaki Udon was perfect: the clay pot it came in kept the soup and noodles hot the entire time, the udon itself had a good chew to it, the vegetables were naturally sweetened, and the egg was a good finishing touch. The shrimp tempura it came with was on par. The fried batter wasn't too thick and it very light and crispy. The space is clean with Japanese decor surrounding the tables. Overall the food was nicely presented and I felt there was a higher caliber of craftsmanship behind each dish. What we ordered: Seafood Udon noodles - good Cold buckwheat noodles w/ sauce - very good Beef Tartar - very good Vegetable tempura - very good even though basic, it was very well done. Light and crispy in every bite 1 sushi roll - excellent. I forget what it was called but I had salmon, orange and mango. I'd recommend this place on service alone if I had too. I feel bad writing this as I've given them a few tries since they re-opened. First time we had called on a Saturday night, it was a complete mess. They were not organized. I was told to check my own bag to make sure that i had everything in there, the main guy was yelling at the staff. We got back and were missing an item. Not good at all! Next time we sat outside and it was amazing, the waitress was so nice and kind, quality was great, quick, no complaints. We've gotten take-out a couple times and it's been so-so. I greeted her when she first arrived with some water and she said nothing... keep in mind, that's her job to do... to greet her guests. I don't get it with this place. I feel obligated to write a review for this restaurant especially right now it seems it's paying a lot on advertising themselves on multiple social media, and that was how we heard about this place. We went for a dinner. The experience was terrible. The service was super slow. We ordered an appetizer and a sushi bowl for share. We waited for half an hour and our appetizer still didn't show up, while all the tables around us who came in later had at least some food. So we asked the waitress about it. She, without apologizing, said it should be soon. We never got her other responses, and she was walking around us all the time. After about another 20 min, we had to ask her again. Her response was she didn't know, she would check with the kitchen. This was the second time we asked! Why didn't you ask the first time? She added that if it was still not ready, she'd cancel the appetizer, which we didn't ask for, and she just decided it for us. After a couple of min, she came back with our sushi bow, saying that the appetizer was canceled, because it never got made! The sushi was at best not great. They taste like sushi that you can get from supermarkets. Sashimi was in chunks like steaks. The fish wasn't fresh either. While we were eating there, somebody ordered BBQ. And the smoke of the BBQ immediately filled the whole room, which made it hard to breath there. I was surprised the fire alarm didn't go up. Terrible experience. I will never go again. read more

If I have to take someone to sushi, and everything must be right, this is where I go. The interior is welcoming, with the traditional seats at the sushi bar or tables for groups. Service is quick and attentive, and the food quality is excellent. I've had many of their fancy maki rolls, sashimi, teriyaki, soba, tempura... it's all first-rate. They sometimes have a special menu with pictures of the latest catch and chef specials as well. With quality comes price... so be prepared to pay for your indulgences! Sushi shouldn't be cheap, and good sushi never will be. New Ginza will run you $30-40 for a good meal, and you won't regret it. My only gripe here is parking... if you come here during prime parking hours, be prepared to roll the block a few times or have a different strategy. If you come off-hours sometimes you can snag a spot in front of the place next door, or up the street a ways. Top-shelf sushi in Watertown? Try it... you won't be disappointed. read more

I found a slivered almond. Thankfully this appears to have been the only nut in the dish (which I did not eat), but this severely freaked me out and I debated using my epi-pen and going to the ER to play it safe.
