This review is just for their egg tarts. It's a deal at $18 a dozen! They're also double the size of the ones you get at dim sum these days. It's been at least a year since I last visited and stopped by recently when in the area. The recipe has improved and so has the crust. It's super flaky and even better when baked in the air fryer for a few minutes. The egg is nice and custardy. Parking shouldn't be a problem but the spaces are a bit narrow at this strip mall. It's located across the street from the Asian supermarket and plaza.

We got a pork and peanut zongzi (~$5), hot dog bun, and bbq bun that was pretty value for the price (total ~$11). The sizes were decently large and fairly fresh.

Little shop that you can get some dim sum, porridge, chow mein, Chinese bread with green onions, egg tarts, etc. Great place to pick up some quick food.

My favorite shrimp dumplings ha-caw.

Every time I go to my Dentest in Milpitas, I stop by my favorite dim sum place. So happy to get some dim sum in Milpitas. They are so good. I love shumai and hawcow there. I wish we have place like this in Texas.:( Their lunch special is the best deal. You get a porridge and so many kinds of dumplings for $10. It's still cheap for the amount of dim sum you get. The owner is very hard worker. I see her every time I go there for last 13 years. They open from morning until evening. No days off. Amazing for a small business like this. Thank you always for serving such a great dim sums.

4 stars based off of New Hwong Kok's Steamed BBQ pork bao. I am typically not a fan of BBQ pork buns and am especially not a fan of fast food to-go dim sum joints. I have not been able to come across a single establishment that meet my requirements when it comes to quality. Food items may be extremely large in size [[visually described as your average dumpling but on STERIOIDS!!]] but the texture is super wet/mushy, with flavoring compromised. With my 3yo not having a good dinner, I went on a hunt to grab something small and carb-y. According to Yelp's listed business hours, NHK was opened pretty late and I headed directly over. I was met by an older Chinese woman who informed to me that business hours were over. I apologized and told her I came here based off of the hours listed on Yelp. Thankfully, she was willing to sell me some BBQ pork buns and Chinese steamed cake as well. Buns were good. I wasn't expecting much and automatically assumed the filling was going to be super stingy but was very very doable. Flavoring was spot on, providing that typical meaty sweetness that you'd expect from char siu. Steamed cake was the letdown due to the inconsistent layers in the pasty. Some parts were dry and crusty/hard. I worked around the piece as best as I could before giving up completely and dumping it. Overall: Thank you to the elderly woman who decided to allow for my purchase even after closing time. I'd come back for the BBQ buns and am interested in checking out other savory fillings they have.

Where's the bbq pork?
Tara L.

Oh man....we used to like it here, but the quality has gone down, portions are smaller and they've skimped on the ingredients. Their shumai used to be big and plump, but they're super small. Their baked bbq pork bun was served cold with very little filling. Their peanut mochi had no filling. So disappointing....We won't be back to this location.

The flavor is comforting and well-balanced without being overly salty, and the texture is smooth and satisfying. I highly recommend pairing it with their dough stick (youtiao). It's crispy on the outside, slightly chewy inside, while still staying light and fluffy. Dipping it into the congee completely changes the experience and honestly feels like a must-order combination. Another standout for me is the steamed spareribs with black bean and taro. The spareribs are tender and flavorful, and the black bean sauce adds a savory depth without overpowering the dish. Service continues to be efficient and well-organized, even when busy. One thing I noticed is that the restaurant is especially popular with elderly customers, which honestly says a lot about the food being comforting, traditional, and consistent. Almost every table had some combination of congee, rice rolls, and steamed dishes, which seems to be the way to go here. Overall, this is the kind of place that becomes easy to return to once you find your favorite dishes.

The Shrimp Rice Rolls are the clear star--the rice noodle is incredibly smooth and thin, which is the mark of a great chang fen. They don't skimp on the shrimp, and the sweet soy sauce ties it all together perfectly. For something heartier, the Wonton Noodle Soup features a very clean, savory broth and snap-to-the-bite noodles. The Pork Congee is also a winner; it's silky, flavorful, and exactly what you want on a cold day or when you're craving something soothing. We also grabbed the Shiu Mai, which were plump and well-seasoned with a great meat-to-shrimp ratio. The kitchen is efficient, and the flavors are consistently authentic. It's a reliable spot for a great quality, traditional meal that never misses the mark. Prices are reasonable and service is fairly quick but there's also a QR code for an optional online ordering for some.

The Chinese sausage pieces sprinkled throughout added extra flavor too. The bowl is deep so there seemed to be roughly 5 cups of rice. Unfortunately the laksa shrimp fried rice was disappointing in comparison. It didn't have much flavor overall - better than plain rice but definitely needed more seasoning. The menu lists homemade laksa sauce as an ingredient but we didn't taste that, and the dish wasn't spicy at all either despite the 1 chili pepper rating. But it looked just like the menu picture so maybe the description is wrong. Fried chicken with tom yum sauce came with 6 pieces. Very juicy. We also enjoyed the herbal roasted prime steak with sausage rice. The delicious rice had the taste of fish sauce. Most of the short rib slices were soft and a few were slightly chewy but overall decent quality. Some of the fattier pieces of meat were still attached to the bone.

I came here on a Friday evening with my friend to grab dinner around 6:00 PM. The wait was around an hour, so be very prepared if you're coming during the dinner rush. This spot is located where the majority of the Asian restaurants are in Milpitas, so it's safe to say the parking can get a bit hectic and intense. The interior of the place is very bright, modern, and clean. There is a lot of seating for a small space, but the reason they are so busy has a lot to do with the number of people wanting to check this spot out. When you sit down, you scan their virtual menu via QR code and order there instead of through a server. You have the choice to order on one phone as a group or separately. Between my friend and me, we ordered a beef mint salad, fried tofu, confit mushrooms, and truffle mushroom rice. I will say that when we first got the fried tofu and confit mushrooms, we were quite surprised by the small portions compared to the price. That said, they were delicious, but skippable if you're trying to find the best bang for your buck. What I absolutely would recommend is their truffle mushroom fried rice. This might have been my best bite this month. It was so savory, the mushrooms hit perfectly, and the coating of butter on the rice was supreme. It was $28 for a bowl, but it was a good value to split between two people. Overall, this place had great, fast service (our food came out in under 10 minutes), a nice ambiance, and fresh, flavorful food.

We arrived around 7 PM without reservations. The restaurant was PACKED with several parties one of which was a wedding. Still, we were able to be seated at a table after about a twenty-minute wait. Below are what we ordered: Macau Style Roast Pork Belly ($22.99) - Good, but on the salty side. Steamed Shrimp Dumpling (6 pcs, $16.99) - Yay for Pearl Bay offering these dim sum dumplings for dinner. These are HUGE har gow because there are two shrimp inside. Double yay!! Sweet Corn & Minced Chicken Soup ($18.99) - Velvety smooth and the perfect balance of savoury and sweet from the corn. Sweet & Sour Chicken - I didn't see this in the menu, but I requested for a plate of crispy chicken with a sweet glaze. Our waitress suggested this and said that she ask the kitchen to fry the chicken to a crisp. Although I would have preferred a little more crisp, I was happy with the flavour. Special Deep Fried Tofu ($13.99) - These looked a lot crisper than they were, but I still enjoyed the little cubes of fried tofu. Crispy Spring Rolls (6 pcs, $14.99) - These fried egg rolls were crispy, indeed. The side of sweet and sour dipping sauce were a good complement. Wok Fried Minced Chicken, Diced Fish & Pine Nuts with Lettuce Cup wraps ($23.99) - I heard our waitress ask if we wanted it with chicken, and I didn't taste any fish in the yummy mix. Very nice. Pan Fried Beef & Vegetable Egg Noodle - This was another special order that I requested. Very good. Dad really liked it, too. Deep Fried Sesame Ball - Yummy, but, again, I was looking for more crisp. I actually like this better as I don't feel rush to order and gives me the chance to look through the menu without feeling rush to order. Iced water was brought out instantly. We ordered the following: 1. Lamb skewer, spicy: you can smell the intensity of the spice when the dish was brought out from the chili powder. The meat is moist and grilled well w/ a nice crisp. There is no gamey smell. I took a first bite but the chili powder slightly burned my gums. Had to ask Hubby to shake some of the chili poweder off the skewers for me. Its a messy dish but very tasty. 2. Spicy beef soup w/ wide noodles: Noodles are HUGE! About 1.5 inches wide and forever long. I had to use the scissors to cut it up. Noodles are good. Chewey texture just as I like it. Comes with a whole egg and beef. The broth has a nice spice to it and unlike other spicy noodle soup I've tried, it does not taste oily or overwhelmed with spices esp Sze Chuan chilis. It had a good balace of savory and spiciness. 3. Wide noodles w/ braised chicken: This dish is delish but it's a BIG dish like a whole chicken was prepared! Can feed up to 4-5 people. It's the size of a medium pizza or even a Large. The thick sauce is very flavorful but not salty. It comes with potatoes, carrots, onions, green bell peppers, and dried whole chili. Its not spicy but may be for kids as we have a high spicy tolerance. Only thing about this plate I didn't like it there's bones. We ended 2 more meals with the leftover. The noodles are hand pulled in house as we sat by the kitchen and saw the kitchen staff making it. Food comes out pretty quick and service is very good.
