I usually don't write reviews, but this experience was so frustrating that I had to warn others. I had heard the terrible reputation this place has in the local Chinese community and saw the low ratings online, but I decided to give it a try anyway. Huge mistake. The community was right--stay away! 1. Blatant False Advertising (The "Menu vs. Reality" Trap) I ordered the No. 2 Sirloin Steak . The photo on the menu looked great, but what was served was a complete joke. The quality of the steak, the portion size, and the presentation were light-years away from the picture. It's a classic bait-and-switch. 2. Dishonest and Unprofessional Service The most infuriating part was the side dish. The set is supposed to come with French fries, but: * Zero Disclosure: They knew they were out of fries, but the server didn't say a word when I placed the order. * Passive-Aggressive Attitude: The plate arrived with a glaring empty space where the fries should be. They didn't even mention it until we pointed it out. * Total Indifference: When we asked, they just coldly said, "We're out," with no apology, no discount, and no offer for a substitute. Summary: This place lacks the most basic level of honesty and customer service. They essentially hide the fact that items are missing until after you've paid and been served. Do not waste your time or hard-earned money here. There are plenty of honest, high-quality cafes in the Bay Area--Top Cafe is definitely not one of them.

Got Pork and preserved Egg Rice Porridge. Not what I ordered. I had ordered Pork and Pork BloodnRice Porridge.

Made a DoorDash pickup order for Pork with Pork Blood Congee. When I picked up my food saw this note on my order. Why didn't they call me up tell me they were out of pork blood. Why didn't they tell me face to face that they changed my order. Our places would have call me to tell me they were out of pork blood. Did have the energy to argue them.

Haven't been here in ages. Right when we sat down, she pointed to the cash only sign and reminded us that's cash only. Since we haven't visited in a long time, I didn't see an afternoon tea menu so I asked if they still have one, then she went and grabbed us another menu with a better value- afternoon menu. This was a bit odd to me as we walked in right around 3pm ish so it's Hk tea time. We tried the pork cutlet with rice, hot lemons tea and the baked pork chop rice. Both were decent for the price of $12 including a drink. Our total came out to be $24 for 2 afternoon tea set. The lady was a bit rude as we haven't asked for the check but she put it down really close to my food that I had to move it out of the way. The cold milk tea was pretty authentic in a way that the black tea flavor was strong, however, it was a bit too sweet for me. Food came out quickly and parking was easy on a Sunday afternoon around 3pm.

Have not been here for ages, so a nostalgic visit but was totally surprised that it is still CSAH ONLY post pandemic! We were warned of cash only again before we sat down. The waitress has been there forever, still speaks the broken Cantonese. She's nice and does her job, I just don't like how every time she delivers something there's food spilled onto our tissues. We ordered the classic baked pork chop rice with tomato sauce, tried the Aberdeen seafood fried rice (they use the American style imitation crab meat, not good), and sweet and sour pork chop rice which is a plate with lots of white rice and the dish of sweet and sour pork chop itself. The complementary Russel soup is getting worse. It's spicy but I can't find a single trace of black pepper, so I'm guessing they just squeeze the spicy sauce in the soup to add in the color and the peppery flavor. A set meal with baked dish, free soup and a free drink is 18.50. The free drink has choices like milk tea, soda, red bean milkshake drink and ginger honey. If you are into HongKong style cafe, the Top Cafe in Cupertino at least let you use credit card.

3.5 stars Atmosphere: car seat booths by the walls and 4 tops in the middle. Unrenovated probably since the 90s, but clean. Strangely there's American pop playing in the background, usually expect some Asian pop in HK cafes such as these. Menu: pretty straightforward, but lots of choices so it can be hard to choose. Prices are a bit on the higher side but portions are huge. Food: came in for Sunday lunch. Empty in person dining, there were a couple more pickup to-go orders instead. I liked how the Portuguese dish has a more roasted coconut flake flavor and it was saucy and creamy enough to mix with each bite. The garlic steak was humongous portion, enough to bring some home. Each dish came with HK cafe style borscht soup, but found that the paprika white pepper powder flavor to be overpowering.

Baked Seafood with Rice

It's tradition to go here with my broski after we get haircuts nearby! It just doesn't hit the same without going here and ordering a baked seafood fried rice! I don't speak Chinese, but my friend has known the staff since his young Chinese school days! We always hit the place up when it's quiet and easy to get seated. We always make jokes about burning our mouth with the food, but don't do the same- it does actually incinerate the inside of your mouth, that's not a joke. I haven't tried anything else basically, but the complimentary borscht and the milk tea make wonderful and comforting additions to this place's meals. I always long for Top Cafe in the rainy days where my fingers are always cold, no matter how much I rub them together. I wish you were closer, like a family member that lives far away.

Salt and pepper chicken wings

I ordered over the phone and verified the location to make sure it was the right one first. There's two locations of top cafe, I believe the other one is in Cupertino. It's cash or venmo only. My bf wanted the baked chicken and ham with rice and cream sauce. For some reason I couldn't find the baked items on the menu via yelp photos. I got the salt and pepper chicken wings and seafood stir fried udon. This was a pretty disappointing dinner. The chicken wings portion was small and not well balanced, the baked dish looked good but the taste wasn't good, thep udon was just whatever. The prices have increased but I don't know where the new prices are posted. Overall, I think the quality and taste of food at this place has decreased since the pandemic started. Maybe they lost a chef? We used to go or do pick up before fairly often, but every time we've tried in the past couple of months has been a disappointment. I really hope it'll get better, I really miss old Top Cafe.

I grew up in Hong Kong, my family went to HK style cafes every week back then. HK style milk tea is a MUST and I'm quite picky with it. In the past the only hk milk tea places comparable to the ones in Hong Kong were all in Chinatowns. Top cafe is the only hk milk tea in the Silicon Valley area that I think has the closest milk tea taste like the one in HK. Their sizzling baked rice/spaghetti plates are very good. I also love their garlic chicken spaghetti (it's in the lunch menu, you can also change garlic sauce to black pepper sauce, both taste excellent!). They fried the chicken first before cooking it with garlic sauce. I can't find any other hk cafes does that other than the ones in Chinatown. Don't forget to try their beef chow fun, they sold out all the time.

First time ordering take out form this place. I ordered the beef chow fun. The taste is ok, however it's way to oily in my opinion and not enough beef. On the menu it's priced at $8.95 and they charged $13.95 without tax on the recipe. Either they forgot to update the menu or we got over charged for it. I would not order the chow fun again and perhaps will try the baked pork chop and rice since that's what they known for based on some the reviews. Additionally, the service is not great either! Per your website - the price for the beef chow fun is $10.95, and I was charged $13.95. Pls update your online menu.

While it's great that they are trying to bring it back to more of a restaurant, I'm disappointed while doing that, they've also changed the menu up. While it is still considered a Hong Kong Style Cafe, I preferred the original menu when they had first opened up, and now they've changed it. They added the baked rice dishes, and Hong Kong Style BBQ Meats and have gotten rid of the more previously offered Cantonese style dishes. Our most recent visit, we ordered the Hainan Chicken Rice Combo, Roast Duck Rice Plate and Beef Stew Wonton Noodle Soup. The rice places come with a drink, so that is a plus there. They weren't anything spectacular, same with the noodle soup we ordered. The customer service here was ok, the staff was nice, no complaints there. The ambiance is ok, it's kinda dark inside, and they have a little lamp at the table for lighting. Too dark in my opinion. Overall, I think they should add back the previous items they offered when they first opened, the menu items were better and more vast.

Came back to try more dishes because this place is honestly too good not to revisit…read more The pork and preserved egg congee has officially become my go-to here. The flavor is comforting and well-balanced without being overly salty, and the texture is smooth and satisfying. I highly recommend pairing it with their dough stick (youtiao). It's crispy on the outside, slightly chewy inside, while still staying light and fluffy. Dipping it into the congee completely changes the experience and honestly feels like a must-order combination. Another standout for me is the steamed spareribs with black bean and taro. The spareribs are tender and flavorful, and the black bean sauce adds a savory depth without overpowering the dish. Service continues to be efficient and well-organized, even when busy. One thing I noticed is that the restaurant is especially popular with elderly customers, which honestly says a lot about the food being comforting, traditional, and consistent. Almost every table had some combination of congee, rice rolls, and steamed dishes, which seems to be the way to go here. Overall, this is the kind of place that becomes easy to return to once you find your favorite dishes.

The Shrimp Rice Rolls are the clear star--the rice noodle is incredibly smooth and thin, which is the mark of a great chang fen. They don't skimp on the shrimp, and the sweet soy sauce ties it all together perfectly. For something heartier, the Wonton Noodle Soup features a very clean, savory broth and snap-to-the-bite noodles. The Pork Congee is also a winner; it's silky, flavorful, and exactly what you want on a cold day or when you're craving something soothing. We also grabbed the Shiu Mai, which were plump and well-seasoned with a great meat-to-shrimp ratio. The kitchen is efficient, and the flavors are consistently authentic. It's a reliable spot for a great quality, traditional meal that never misses the mark. Prices are reasonable and service is fairly quick but there's also a QR code for an optional online ordering for some.

Stopped by Wu Ji's Mala House with a friend and loved it…read more The broth is well-simmered with a strong herbal flavor. The spicy pot is fragrant (not just numbing) and the braised beef tripe was excellent . Friendly owner and staff. Cash or Zelle only. STAY FAR AWAY FROM HERE…read more I'm a strong believer that a restaurant's cleanliness and service reflect the quality of its food and Wuji was an absolute disgrace on all fronts. I've never encountered service and food this terrible. I was in the area and decided to give Wuji a try, but the problems started the moment I walked in. The servers already had an attitude, and when I sat down, the table was so sticky and dirty it raised a red flag. Despite the restaurant not being busy, it was almost impossible to get the waitress's attention. The bathroom was also filthy, and if that's what they let customers see, I can only imagine what the kitchen looks like. When my pot finally arrived, I noticed lots of black specks floating in the soup and stuck on the veggies and meat. I brought it up to the waitress, and instead of addressing the concern, she gave me even more attitude and acted as if I was at fault for asking. The food itself was terrible. It was not only oily but constantly seeing more of the black bits float up was so unappetizing that after only a couple of bites, I decided it was safer to leave and eat somewhere else. I highly recommend staying far away from this place. This was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had.
