Fish porridge & chow fun set
    Jessica H.

Been here a few times & unfortunately, the quality & flavors of the dishes are not very consistent. On some days, everything is perfectly delicious, on other days it's very bland. My family enjoys ordering the sets/combos - particularly the fish porridge & chow fun b/c it comes with dim sum of your choice in the following categories (1S, 2M, 1L, & 1K), but the porridge is a hit & miss sometimes.

Har Gow, chicken feet, egg yolk buns, deep fried shrimp balls, bbq pork buns, Siu Mai

Door dashed dim sum for dinner from Golden Sun. The ordering was simple. Packaging for delivery was done well. The container for the deep fried shrimp had a cut to ventilate and prevent the dish from getting soggy. $60 including tip for 6 dishes. The chicken feet was ok. I think the flavor could be more savory and the amount was less than I'm used to seeing. The best dish was the bbq pork buns. The buns were soft and pillowy, and the bbq pork was just the right amount to bun. Other dishes that I ordered were egg yolk buns, har gow, and siu mai. Basic dim sum dishes and helped with the craving. It's probably best to have dim sum at Golden Sun Palace during their dim sum hours.

This strip mall is packed on Sunday mornings. Good luck trying to find a parking spot haha! But Golden Sun isn't too packed which is nice. You can call ahead to reserve a table if you have a large group. Food is ok. Some of the dim sum dishes are meh but they do come out quick. So if speed and not waiting around is what you like, GS is a good Sunday brunch "yam cha" spot.

First of all, this place offers free tea! I haven't been to many dim sum places in the bay where it offers free tea. You can tell that this is a local favorite as mostly families/elders are sitting around you. The dim sum was pretty good! I would say that the best item was the chicken feet! Super flavorful but not salty! I also love how the spongecake is made out of brown sugar, so it's not too sweet! I would definitely come back! The pricing is super reasonable as well!

Golden Sun Palace is located in the City Square Center. Parking is ok, depending on when you come. I've been here many times for dim sum or family dinners. Spacious place, good for wedding receptions and events. The service was friendly, helpful, and attentive! All the staff workers provided great service! I only ordered a few things but filling enough for me. Scallop Dumpling - decent sized dumpling filled with shrimp and a couple of bay scallops. Fried Sticky Rice w/Chinese Sausage - topped with a little scrambled egg. One of my favorite dishes. It always reminds me of going to SF to visit my grandparents. Spiced Beef Varieties - I hardly get a chance to get this dish and that's a good thing as it's high in cholesterol. This place makes it so well! A good variety of the usual in this dish but my favorite is the "ngoh bong". Nobody knows the English equivalent. Some say the pancreas, others the lungs. LOL. Chrysanthemum Tea - my waiter brought it to me saying [Cantonese], after eating the offal, this tea is good for digestion or cutting the cholesterol. [My English translation of my limited Cantonese. LOL] Support your local business.

Came in before noon Sat.. Got seated right away. Nicely lit inside. No music but a few TVs on with Cantonese? Tv shows. Had carts coming around as well as able to order off menu. All good here pretty traditional Cantonese dim sum. Dishes: Sui Mai- nice sized, excellent examples of the dish. Nice amount of meat, not greasy. Steamed bean curd skin roll with pork and shrimp- pretty filling though light feeling. Stuffed densely. Again not greasy. Durian puffs- nice light crunchy outer shell and plenty of creamy durian inside. My favorite of the bunch today. Preserved egg pork congee- nicely done, decent amount of pork inside. Add white pepper to make flavors pop more. BBQ Pork puff- Again nice crispy outside plenty of fillings inside. Overall a very enjoyable dim sum and pretty economical. Liked the staff and speed of service. Will be back.

Came here on a late Thursday afternoon for my best friend's Graduation lunch. The restaurant itself is fairly spacious with lots of natural light beaming in. The staff is super nice and attentive since it was not busy - we were practically the only people there. We were a table of 7. Ordered a bunch of dim sum and also noodle dishes (including lobster) and a Peking duck. Food was adequate - it wasn't the best but it wasn't inedible either. Honestly, for everything to only come out to $200 for 7 people that included lobster and a duck, id come back

The last time my family and I came to Golden Sun Palace was on 12/16/2019, right before the beginning of the pandemic. That was a good day because we got to hang out with some close family friends and relatives over dim sum. Exactly five years later to the date, my family and I made our return here for a dim sum outing. The place was pretty quiet when we walked in at noon. One of the staff greeted us and she led us to a table by the windows. The interior was clean, and did not appear to have gone through any renovations since the last time we were here. Our server got us tea while we perused the vast dim sum menu. As soon as she returned, we placed our order. We ended up getting eight items plus beef chow fun. Our food started to arrive in 15 minutes, in stages. The first thing we noticed was that the dim sum items were made in-house instead of premade. Overall, we were pleasantly surprised with the quality. Everything was on point for the most part, and they did not skimp on anything. If I had to nitpick, I would say the beef chow fun was a bit greasy and the har gow skin was somewhat mushy. Service we received was very good. Our server was friendly, polite, and efficient. Prices were very reasonable. Dim sum items ranged from $4.95 to $9.95, and the beef chow fun was one of their daily specials at $11.95. Tea charge was waived. The total, with T/T, was about $77. Based on this experience, we will definitely return! BONUS MATERIAL: - Ample parking on site. - Major credit cards accepted. - Their tip suggestions are based on post-tax amount. - Check out their weekday daily specials, which include noodle/rice dishes, entrée items, and dim sum combos. - No tea charge.

Absolutely delicious and fresh hot food delivered! I loved everything I ordered. Always consistent. Thank you Chef!

New favorite spot for dim sum! The service is great, the food comes out hot, fast and authentic Cantonese flavor! I've been here 3 times in the last month for dim sum! Pro tip: Some of the favorite items that have pastry in them are only available on the weekend. Weekends get busy, come before 12pm or call ahead.

1.5 stars, rounding up to 2 I suppose disclaimer - I only came here instead of yin ji chang fen bc I wanted 咸水角 & figured we might as well try a new place lol moderately sized restaurant, got seated quickly teacups were all dirty/sticky - I asked for a different one, but the replacement was ALSO dirty lol ... so I just drank out of my own water bottle chow mein - 6/10 wasn't expecting the thing noodles lol , kinda dry &hard to swallow, not a lot of toppings & was pretty much all just noodle shrimp chang fen - 7/10 avg but honestly probably the only thing I didn't have a complaint about here har gao - 6.5/10 skin was mushy & fell apart, inside was fine you tiao chang fen - 6/10 avg but kinda lacked taste somehow chicken feet - 6.5/10 flav was fine, texture felt a little off, also the meat was hard to get off the bone - other places do it so well the meat usually falls off char siu bao - 6.5/10 avg maybe a little dry taro ball - 6/10 pasty & felt undercooked calamari - 5/10 very mid, my friend ordered this but lol just get calamari from an actual boba shop or Japanese restaurant siu mai - 6.5/10 avg but skin was too thin xlb - 5/10 what in the world is this skin?? xian shui jiao - 4/10 unsatisfying, undercooked, inside was gloopy & pasty, skin was barely even fried (it's supposed to be golden brown)

My family had been craving Peking duck for a while so we decided to check out Golden Sun Palace in Milpitas for an early dinner. The 7 of us got to the restaurant at opening (5:30) on a Sunday and were one of the first parties there. It's a standard family-style Chinese restaurant in terms of decor and ambience - you're there for the food, the family, and not much else. We ordered the A combo and added their lobster noodle on the side. They use the duck bones left over from the crispy Peking duck to make into a thin but richly flavored broth that acts as the appetizer. Then came the Hainanese chicken, boiled and served with a garlic-ginger sauce, the rich and oily lobster noodles, the fried salt and pepper fish filet, the bok choy, and finally the star of the night: the Peking duck. After smearing oyster sauce on the provided steamed buns, sandwich a piece of duck skin and a few green onion slivers between the sides and dig in. It's so oily I usually give in after 2 or 3, but it's more than worth it. At the end of the meal they provide a plate of house baked butter cookies in place of fortune cookies (as if the meal couldn't get any heavier). Grab a takeout box for leftovers and you're set. Parent approved!

It's been 9 years since my last review so I thought I'd post an update. I dined here recently and was able to try a few new items I didn't order last time. We got here around 1:30PM, near the tail end of lunch and the restaurant was still about 1/3 full. Although the restaurant did age the last decade, I feel like the the food quality actually increased! We ordered the staple dim sum items: pork sui mai, shrimp har gow, beef rice roll, egg tarts, chicken feet, steamed bean curd skin with pork and shrimp. The dim sum items were pretty good with the steamed items coming out fresh and hot. In addition to these items we also ordered two dishes - chicken chow fun with gravy and dried scallops fried rice. Both were great and were of a generous portion. The only letdown was the plate of roast pork - the skin was a bit stale and chewy, not crunch and crisp as you'd expect. The dim sum is ordered via the waiter/waitress whereas the baked items are on a cart that is wheeled around the restaurant. Those items can be picked ad-hoc. The sticky rice on that cart can be heated up, just ask them to warm if up for you. Looking for a dim sum deal? After 2:30 PM, you can score a buy-one-get-one-free deal on baked goods like bbq pork buns and egg tarts. Just be quick, as these goodies tend to fly off the cart and others may be waiting for 2:30 PM to strike too. Golden Sun Palace was cleaner than I expected for an older Chinese restaurant. The bathrooms were surprisingly nice, and they even cleaned the dim sum carts before closing. The service was great! They refilled our tea, cleared our table of dirty dishes, and helped us cut a birthday cake. For all these reasons, I'm upgrading my review to 4 solid stars.

I believe so or up to 2pm.

They do serve dim sum weekday lunch but the selection is not as extensive as on weekends. It's not as crowded and quieter.

The Chinese sausage pieces sprinkled throughout added extra flavor too. The bowl is deep so there seemed to be roughly 5 cups of rice. Unfortunately the laksa shrimp fried rice was disappointing in comparison. It didn't have much flavor overall - better than plain rice but definitely needed more seasoning. The menu lists homemade laksa sauce as an ingredient but we didn't taste that, and the dish wasn't spicy at all either despite the 1 chili pepper rating. But it looked just like the menu picture so maybe the description is wrong. Fried chicken with tom yum sauce came with 6 pieces. Very juicy. We also enjoyed the herbal roasted prime steak with sausage rice. The delicious rice had the taste of fish sauce. Most of the short rib slices were soft and a few were slightly chewy but overall decent quality. Some of the fattier pieces of meat were still attached to the bone.

I came here on a Friday evening with my friend to grab dinner around 6:00 PM. The wait was around an hour, so be very prepared if you're coming during the dinner rush. This spot is located where the majority of the Asian restaurants are in Milpitas, so it's safe to say the parking can get a bit hectic and intense. The interior of the place is very bright, modern, and clean. There is a lot of seating for a small space, but the reason they are so busy has a lot to do with the number of people wanting to check this spot out. When you sit down, you scan their virtual menu via QR code and order there instead of through a server. You have the choice to order on one phone as a group or separately. Between my friend and me, we ordered a beef mint salad, fried tofu, confit mushrooms, and truffle mushroom rice. I will say that when we first got the fried tofu and confit mushrooms, we were quite surprised by the small portions compared to the price. That said, they were delicious, but skippable if you're trying to find the best bang for your buck. What I absolutely would recommend is their truffle mushroom fried rice. This might have been my best bite this month. It was so savory, the mushrooms hit perfectly, and the coating of butter on the rice was supreme. It was $28 for a bowl, but it was a good value to split between two people. Overall, this place had great, fast service (our food came out in under 10 minutes), a nice ambiance, and fresh, flavorful food.
