Pretty solid option for Dim Sum. We came in on a Sunday afternoon where the wait time was around 30 mins for a table. The decor looks pretty much like koi palace but bigger. The service was overall decent. The Beef Chowfun was probably the best thing on the menu. We also ordered a dish that was purple which was also pretty solid. The only complaints I had was that there was a communication issue regarding food information; we asked regarding allergies and they misinterpreted as us wanting to order it. The other issue I had was that there was no option to tip, but rather an automatic service charge added onto the bill which was very odd to me. Otherwise, I would definitely come back here. My second time here for lunch. There's no wait on a weekday last time. 3 of us came here on Saturday around noon, and had to wait for about 20 minutes for a table, which wasn't bad at all. Even though their parking lot had a lot of cars, it's so big that there're still plenty of spaces. Their inside was huge as well. Because of the high ceiling, it didn't feel too crowded, even though it was packed. They had a lot of servers, too, though getting the attention of one took a while. Our server highly recommended their sea bass 2 ways (congee and chow fun) on their daily special menu. We would have ordered that if they still had fish at ~2lb, but they only had fish at ~3lb, which would be too big for us, as we would like to order some dim sum as well. So, we just ordered from their dim sum menu. The 2 different house teas we ordered came out pretty quickly, but it took a while for the food to come. The Sauteed Turnip Cake in XO Sauce was the dish I liked the most. It could still use more XO sauce, though. Pork & Crab Roe Siu Mai was gigantic; taste was normal. I wished they had chili sauce at the table. We're too busy catching up and didn't bother to flag down someone to get some. The Fried Bean Curd Skin Roll w/ Shrimp was not bad, just a bit oily. The Fried Chinese Donut Wrapped in Rice Noodle w/ Dried Shrimp was on point; it came with a peanut sauce on the side. The Chicken Feet w/ Black Bean Sauce were well cooked and off the bones. The Salted Egg Yolk Lava Black Bun wasn't too sweet; the inside was more runny than we expected. We're already stuffed after having 6 dim sum dishes. Went to HL Peninsula, and it was aggressively packed! We came on a Sunday morning and waited over an hour and a half for a party of five, so come prepared. In my opinion, their system for waiting for tables is a bit chaotic. They do not ask for your phone number; instead, they print out a receipt with a number and call it out when your table is ready. There is a monitor inside the restaurant that you can watch, but since it's so crowded and the way the system is displayed on the screen, it's kind of hard to tell what is going on or what your status is. Service-wise, it's exactly what you would expect from any Chinese restaurant serving dim sum, if you know what I mean. :) Inside, the restaurant is very spacious and large, and I am assuming the reason for the long wait is that it's one of only two places to get dim sum in Milpitas (the other being Mayflower in the other highly packed plaza nearby). They do not serve dim sum with the traditional cart system where dishes are rolled around the dining room. Instead, you order from a menu and mark down how many quantities you want of each item. My family got a variety of dishes, but I'll call out some notable ones: * Their shu mai was juicy and packed with meat, probably one of the best shu mai I've had in the South Bay. * Their har gow skin broke apart really easily, which bummed me out, but it was generously stuffed with shrimp. * My favorite dish was their purple rice rolls. Had a wonderful experience dining here for a weekend wedding! HL is part of an Asian plaza and has lots of parking. It's a grand space as expected for a Chinese restaurant. The service staff were fast and efficient in cleaning up finished plates and placing the apps and entrees of the set menu. The bartenders were great and friendly with the drink service. We ordered a lot of different dishes but they said they ran out of Chow fun so had to replace it with a different noodle dish but then ended up not brining it till we were done eating everything else. Some notes - The steamed dumpling skins tended to stick to each other and break while picking them up. The spare ribs were tender but a little bland. The restaurant is always bustling on weekends, so without a reservation, would definitely expect a wait time. The dim sum carts have large variety and are fresh and fast, but the set menu helps alleviate the chaos and the decision of having to pick what to get haha. The food gets delivered fast and is fresh. The set menu has a large variety of different foods, from meat like duck and sweet / sour chicken, to veggies like mushroom and snap peas, to seafood like fish and lobster and scallops, as well as soup and fried rice. The food is served in waves, so there's always a new dish on the table every 5-10 minutes. The portions are massive! We always have plenty of leftovers to last us the rest of the weekend. Everything is tasty and seasoned well. My personal favs are the fried pumpkin, lobster noodles, and scallops, although all dishes were hits. We ordered our usual: shrimp rolls, shrimp dumplings, sui mai, salted fish and chicken fried rice, chicken feet. The chicken feet was cooked perfectly, texture was consistent throughout and the flavors were subtle and well seasoned. Now the fried rice was 25$, I really wanted this to be good. My honest description of it is ‍, the rice was well cooked, shards were fluffy and seasoned nicely yet that was it. The salted fish was rarely seen, youd only notice every 3 spoonfuls and the chicken was passable. Shrimp rice rolls and shrimp dumplings are my stable go tos, I've been eating these dishes since I was small. These two were a complete disappointment, the batter were both chewy and honestly felt TOO thick. Then it seemed like there was a batter of some sort on both shrimp fillings? Came here with two friends for dim sum on Saturday late morning to try out a new (to us) place. We made a reservation online to make things a little less painful since Saturday dim sum brunch time can get intense with crowds. When we arrived, I checked us in and we were seated right away. The space was gorgeous - spacious, bright, elegant, high ceilings, ginormous screens. They served us tea right away and left a menu on the table for us to fill out and order from. Since I was the lone Asian person at the table, I took the liberty of filling out our order. I placed the completed form at the edge of the table for the wait staff to pick up, after about 10 minutes of no one stopping by, I had to do the arm waving thing to flag someone down. I typically expect minimal to no customer service when going out for dim sum - it's just culturally expected. The food eventually slowly started to come out, a dish and basket at a time, but we had no sauces, so I had to get again flat someone down for some. Once we were settled with sauces, we were good. So. Try good, as a matter of fact. Each dish & basket was fresh, delicious, & left me excited for the next bite. I ordered the standard dim sum dishes, plus some. The steamed bbq pork bun was beautifully crafted & fluffy, moist, & delicious. The group favorite was the salted egg yolk lava bun - painted on top with a stroke of gold, when I broke open the bun, it yielded a delicious golden & sweet yolk that left everyone at the table with surprising delight. Personally, I've never craved dim sum but this meal changed that for me! The restaurant is definitely a more upscale dim sum spot. It's really large, bright, and very clean. The service is also pretty fast. However, because the restaurant is so large and is often packed especially on weekends, you'll probably have to ask your server more than once for something. Overall though, this is my family's new preferred spot for dim sum Dishes: - Pork belly with caviar: was super tender and juicy, basically melt in your mouth texture. However I was hoping the skin would be crispy like typical roast pork so I missed that. -Siu Mai: super plump, juicy, and flavorful! We attended a one-year-old birthday banquet for a friend's daughter and booked two tables in a private room for lunch. While the service was acceptable, the food quality was extremely disappointing and far below what you would expect from a high-end Chinese restaurant. The banquet had been reserved in advance, yet the restaurant still claimed that the double-boiled soup was not prepared and replaced it with fish maw soup instead. The biggest issue was that the soup was bland and tasteless. The rest of the dishes were also below standard, and we ended up leaving a lot of food unfinished. Plenty of private rooms to dine in, 2 humongous TV, and plenty to space esp for a wedding. Well, we reserved for a party of 24. Placed our order, but the food took a while to come out. It did not seem so busy for a Friday night around 7:30pm. There were plenty of tables available. When our first dish came out, it was the fish maw soup. Which is usually eaten with red vinegar and white pepper, but there was none on our table. We asked for white pepper 3x and no one brought it to us. The soup ended up being ao bland, the only bland dish for the night, because everything else we ordered are SALTY!!!!! SALTY! SALTY! SALTY! We ordered 2 of everything bc we had to 2 tables. Thefried shrimp, SALTY! Honey walnut shrimp, SALTY! Expensive lobster with noodle, SALTY! A few tofu dishes, SALTY! Clams were okay. I forgot what else we ordered, but it was SALTY! And I wasn't the only one who felt this way. Service was HORRIBLE!! I had to ask for water for 3 different people, I order in English and Chinese, and still nothing. The white pepper we asked showed up around the end of meal. I'm not sure if all the staff were new, but it was horrible service. Beautiful banquet hall frequently a consideration for hosting weddings and dinner parties yet also proficient in serving the staple dim sum during weekend brunch, HL Peninsula bolsters its presence in the Bay Area with this South East Bay location. Possibly overshadowed by its competition on the other side of the freeway, HL Peninsula is oftentimes forgotten for me but this time around, we attended a beautiful wedding hosted at the restaurant and it was amazing. Parking is abundant with its own dedicated lot and location is convenient for out of towners and locals as it's just blocks from the highway. The space is huge with high ceilings, great lighting, and comfortable seating arrangements. The food was certainly a highlight with presentable arrangements on display with solid ingredients making up the robust yet delicate dishes. Seafood is a strength here but so is there abundance of other proteins. Their roasted pig was just right in terms of fat to meat proportions and the crisp on the skin was decent. Peking duck was good but I'd prefer thinner pieces of meat. Sea bass was decadent per usual and cooked perfectly. Abalone with sea cucumber, a classic for many with exquisite tastes, was executed well here (clean, smooth texture in the sea cucumber and tender abalone). A new and fresh dish for me was their sea urchin fried rice. It was unique, however, cooked sea urchin just didn't have the same spark in flavor compared to its raw variety. The flavor was still great, but I had expected more of a kick from a dish involving uni. Pricing is as you'd expect - a little on the higher end, but for the quality you're getting, it's quite fair in my opinion. We have come here for dim sum once before and it was pretty comparable to similar places and the portions were, to me, industry standard. It's just incredibly busy and noisy. The staff were efficient and friendly - a lot of the folks here are veterans in the business and know how to ensure their customers enjoy a meal out. Overall, HL Peninsula is a strong option for banquet dinners as well as just a night out with solid, authentic Chinese cuisine that may include a healthy, balanced serving of proteins, vegetables, noodles and rice. Dim sum cravings may also be quelled here during their brunch hours but be early during those peak weekend times or else be prepared to wait! They have branches throughout the Bay Area so if this one's close by, check it out! I haven't been to any of the other locations yet but from what I've heard, the food can vary. So the food was delicious! Everything we ordered was good. The venue itself is beautiful and clean. My reason for giving this amount of stars is because that day we went there, they were hosting a wedding. It was so confusing! Everyone is lining up at the door and there weren't any indication where the other patrons were supposed to go to get a table if they weren't there for the wedding. They had five tables outside in a covered area and once the sun went down there were no lights. We had a dim candle light and it wasn't even romantic. I went in to use the restroom and i had to walk through the wedding reception and when i came back out the was trapped by lion dancers. Then i noticed that they had seatings inside that was sectioned for people who are not part of the wedding party. So why were we outside!? I feel like if you're hosting an event for a wedding there should be separate entrance for the wedding and the other patrons. Or if not close it out for the wedding only guest only. The food was good but pricey. Big screens on either end of the dining area constantly putting on commercials of how they do weddings too (which makes sense) they have a lot of staff walking around but it seems like they have blinders on unless you just so happen to be waving the check in your hands. My parents and I made a game of it to see who could get the attention of one of the staff. Check in hand always works btw. Other than that, food was good. Nothing amazing. Just okay. What should have been an enjoyable group dinner was ruined by some of the pushiest and most unprofessional service I've encountered. Despite us telling him multiple times that we wanted to see the regular menu, he pressured us 6 or 7 times until we finally had to tell him how annoying it was. The most ridiculous part? He kept "joking" that the food we ordered wouldn't be enough. We ended up ordering 13 different dishes, and even then, we couldn't even finish everything on the table! It was clear the staff was more interested in padding the bill than ensuring we had a good meal. It is incredibly uncomfortable to be mocked for your order when you've already provided the restaurant with plenty of business. I felt disrespected as a customer and hounded for a higher spend. We pull up on a Sunday around 12:30pm and it was busy but we didn't have to wait more than an hour thank god. When you arrive there you let them know and they give you a number to be seated. We waited about 30-40 minutes I'd say which isn't too bad considering this seems like a super popular dim sum restaurant on a weekend. Inside is big and super packed with lots of customers. They also have separate rooms with events. The ambiance is great! They have music playing and a super humongous screen advertising wedding events at the restaurant. The women's bathrooms here are also decently clean! Now let's go through the important part... the food! For some reason they gave us the desserts first and we ate that and I was starting to get kind of full waiting for the main entree and other savory dishes LOL * Lobster noodle: This is one of my fave main dishes that they have at dim sum restaurants. However, this tasted like a standard lobster noodle dish but I felt like it was kind of dull compared to my favorite childhood dim sum restaurant in Chinatown, SF. I forgot the name of the restaurant but it was much more flavorful. I still recommend this if you like savory lobster and noodles in the garlic sauce they cook it in. * Steamed shrimp dumpling in ginseng broth: This tasted like a standard shrimp dumpling. No complaints about it. However I did not taste ginseng flavor at all in the broth. We also ordered the regular shrimp dumplings with no broth but I did not try that. I would get any of the shrimp dumplings trays if you like it. I just wished the broth had more of a strong ginseng flavor to enhance the dish more. * Fried red wine marinated oyster: Nothing special about this one at all. I would not get it again and it was underwhelming. They do give you a creamy white sauce to dip it in which made a bit better but it was just straight up fried oyster. * Steamed oyster with black bean sauce: I thought this one also tasted alright. I personally would not get this again. So far not a fan of how they cook their oyster here. * Pork spareribs in black bean sauce: This is another favorite of mines and it tasted great. Flavorful in the black bean sauce and the meat was cooked well. * Chicken feet with black bean sauce: This tasted like it lacked in flavor but I think it's because the sauce wasn't coated well all over the chicken feet. I recommend to keep dipping it with the sauce in the bottom of the plate. This one was average compared to other places. * Steamed beef tripes with ginger and scallion: This one was good and standard. The tripe is cooked well and had a good chew. * Shrimp rice noodle rolls: They were good but I would say the rice noodle itself could've been softer and pillowy. I do like that the shrimp they use are big. * Deep fried shrimp ball with almond slices: I was not a fan of the almond slices around the shrimp ball. I prefer it without the almond slices as I felt like it was too overwhelming and took away from the shrimp ball itself. I'm not sure if you can request them to make it without the almond slice? * Chilled and spicy chicken feet: I love white chicken feet. It was spicy indeed and good meat and cartilage. A good snack dish for me. Now for the desserts! * Mango piggy pudding: Not sure if they ran out of piggies because they came out as rabbits! It was an interesting chewy texture and the mango flavor is super mild!!!! Not too sweet at all which I like and only chose this dish because I thought it was cute. * Baked egg yolk lava bao: THESE ARE AMAZING! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND GETTING THIS. 3.5. Huge dim sum/Chinese food/wedding venue. It's humongous. The TV screen is huge, the biggest I've seen in a wedding venue. The ceiling is tall too. Looks like a great place for a 500 person Vietnamese or Chinese wedding. We came for the dim sum, no wait, but I think we had reservations. Service was definitely lacking and spotty, we think it's because they are so busy. We came on a Saturday. It was hard to get anything. No carts here. You order via menu and they bring everything to you. The first waiter guy tried to upsell us on some non dim sum items that was like $35 a plate. I was like no dude, we only want dim sum. We got all the usual dim sum. Shu mai, har gow, shrimp rolls, chicken feet, XLB, pork buns, and some other things. It was good, the dim sum was extra large. Stuffed with ingredients. We liked their food, just super hard to get some sort of service. And maybe they don't care because they auto grat to your bill. Overall, big place to grab some dim sum with a huge party. read more

I think Service here is very normal. For a dim sum place that is so much more expensive than others, i do expect better service. Not from the cart ladies, they actually went over and beyond to help me when i needed something, but the other people in sport coats just look to fill tables and collect checks. We were ONLY helped by cart ladies, extra water, napkins, extra chopsticks, sauce. Sport Coat only came to help with tea once and check.. pay the cart ladies more.. The ambiance is nice since its very much an upgraded dim sum place. You are reminded every 2 minutes that you can have your wedding here by the same advertisement. It looks like it can be a great banquet hall for a wedding and its for sure set up that way. I just might not be sure if the food and the waitstaff is on the same level.. The dim sum itself is somewhat unique. You wont find some of these in every dim sum place, but if you travel to at least 10 different places for dimsum, you will have had everything on this menu, this place just complies it to one place and puts a premium tag on it. Some of the things ordered didnt have much flavor.. i dont recommend getting regular dinner or lunch food, just the dim sum.. I recently hosted my daughter's wedding dinner reception at HL Peninsula Restaurant in Milpitas, investing well over $80,000 for the evening. Given the scale of the event and the financial commitment, I expected a high standard of service and execution. Instead, the experience was profoundly disappointing and completely unacceptable. Several critical issues occurred throughout the evening: Subpar Food Quality & Mix-ups: Multiple courses arrived at the tables completely cold. Furthermore, we were missing several items that were explicitly ordered, and it became clear that we were served dishes intended for an entirely different reception. Negligent Management: When I brought these glaring errors to the manager's attention during the event, the response was dismissive. No immediate effort was made to rectify the situation, show accountability, or offer a meaningful resolution. Health and Safety Concerns: Most alarmingly, the day following the event, a significant number of our guests reported experiencing severe stomach pain and distress due to the food served. A coordinator or host spending this amount of money should be met with meticulous service and respect. Instead, our milestone celebration was marred by chaotic logistics, poor food handling, and a complete lack of management oversight. We have attended events at almost all of their locations. This one was by far the most accommodating to our allergies and diet needs. They were fast and on top of everything, removing food to bring more almost immediately. The wedding room was lovely and we would recommend having an event there. read more

Came here for dim sum for the first time last Saturday & our party was already seated around 11 am with no wait. There were 6 of us and we ordered soo much food but definitely got all the main dim sum items. I liked their chicken feet, flavor was good & it wasn't dry or overcooked. I was bummed that they didn't have the fried shrimp ball in the wonton strips so maybe the closest thing was this fried shrimp ball that was covered in slivered almonds which came with a mayo sauce so it tasted similar to the walnut shrimp. We usually don't eat chow fun for lunch but we got their beef chow fun which was so good. Noodles were nice and chewy and it had great flavor. Their chili sauce wasn't that great for me, sort of bland compared to other places that's more of a paste which I personally like. The place is huge and it seems like it was a bit hard to flag down someone right away but other than that, staff was helpful. read more

This is our first and last time to this restaurant - nine of us went there for a very meaningful gathering. I ordered about $1,000 of food including a Leopard coral grouper which costs around $300. They gave us a black Leopard coral grouper, claiming that we didn't specify the color of the fish. Fortunately my friend is a seafood expert and he told me immediately this is low quality. Lobster was clearly a dead recook. After cancelling the fish they quickly escorted us out of the restaurant without getting the residual food ready for take out. And they shamelessly included a 16% tip on the check. You are better off staying away from such a deceiving merchant. read more

It's best to dine here with a big group as the portion sizes are pretty big so you can only try multiple dishes if you come with a larger group size. There is plenty of parking in the complex. The service was pretty good. The servers were helpful in placing the order as it was my first time dining here. I would come back during lunch next time as they have a different menu for lunch/dinner and offer more variety of dumplings during lunch. There was no wait time for 7pm dinner for sunday. I had the house fried rice which was delicious and the quantity was huge. For dumplings I had the xiao long bao, pork and crab siu mai and the shrimp dumplings. All were amazing. Loved them. Shrimp dumplings were super fresh, pork in the xiao long bao and the siu mai was flavorful. The xiao long bao was pretty thick with not much soup inside. I will skip it for next time. read more

Food at dinner is amazing. A ton of space and you normally won't need reservations, even on weekends. Service isn't the best, but food more than makes up for it. My family have come here so many times already! Favorite dishes include the yuxiang eggplant with scallop, and the scallop and tofu with uni cream sauce. Amazing! read more

Took my dad here for lunch and overall had a great experience! The wait was short, which was a pleasant surprise given how busy some dim sum places can get. We ordered the clams, oysters, and pandan tarts--everything was fresh and delicious. The clams were especially flavorful, and the pandan tarts were a unique, tasty treat that stood out. The only reason I'm giving four stars instead of five is that the oysters didn't have much taste--they were a bit underwhelming compared to the rest of the meal. Ambience was clean and inviting, with a nice buzz of energy without being too loud. Service was fast, attentive, and friendly throughout. My first time dining at this expansive restaurant. Coming in, greeting with spacious, grand dining area with private rooms available on one side of the hall. Clean, bright and have two huge screens fir any sport events. Impressive. Service is prompt, efficient and friendly. But .... Instead of just one assigned person looking after our orders, there were few people that unfortunately didn't communicate well to the others. We felt like we were in a car dealership with bunches of sales person trying to make a sale / deal. Their intention might be good but we just felt overwhelmed and confused. Becareful, some of the pricing are in per lb !!!! A dish that you think is $25, could be $70 because $25/lb. So, read the menu carefully. The foods are very good , flavorful and well cooked. Portion is average. We didn't try the Dim Sum. May be one day. Overall, a great restaurant. read more
