Some friends had a party and catered some food from New Jade China. We've had their food at their other location off of Berryessa and Capitol Ave. Typical Cantonese food. This place has always been a hit and miss... Today was a full on swing miss. Ordered the crispy beef with garlic sauce, and found hardly any beef. Most of it was covered with flower/batter. The food 15 years ago with another owner was good too. This time, trying out their Mongolian beef was very good. I was at first skeptical bc in the past, the meat with the previous owner was not tender and too thick to eat. But wow! The beef is so tender and nicely sliced! Finally had the chance to come back to the restaurant after a long time. Came here for lunch with my dad and we both ordered the #6 plate. The #6 plate consists of chicken Chow Mein, Broccoli Beef, Kung Pao Chicken, and an Egg Roll. The portions were big! This was enough for 2-3 meals. New Jade China is a staple in my household for their quality, service, and overall tribute to Chinese cuisine. For a birthday party earlier this year, I ordered party trays of the cream cheese rangoons and salt and pepper fried chicken wings. In about an hour, the food was ready for pick up so I was really impressed by their quick service. These items, the well seasoned wings and cream cheese filled rangoons, turned out to be a crowd favorite at the party! Guests were asking where it's from so of course I had to credit New Jade China. This little gem is a small kitchen with 5 tables, 4 seats each, if you decide to come eat here for lunch. The cashier at the time I visited was very sweet and brought out my take out to me when it was ready. While waiting, I was studying their menu. To say it was fresh from the freezer is putting it lightly. The 2 pieces of battened chicken weren't even golden brown. They were more of a blonde color, yet cooked . The "sweet and sour" pork had no pineapple and was more like dry battered pork chunks tossed in a thin sweet and sour glaze. The stir fried rice and chickenless chow mien was bland. I would drive across town to the berryessa location and was extremely happy to find out there was one near me. I started ordering here and loved the food. Taste and quality isn't my issue. Last night I had my son pick up my order of fried rice, Mongolian beef, sweet and sour pork, and tempura shrimp. The Mongolian beef was just a massive amount of onions and peppers, literally 4 pieces of beef that I had to dig to find and the shrimp was over cooked and very tough to chew, I gave up. It's not flashy or trying too hard, and I really appreciate that. Every time I go the staff greets with a smile, and even if they're busy they try to check in or keep things moving without making you feel rushed. Food wise, it's consistently good. I've tried different items each time and haven't been let down yet. One dish this time had a real homey taste to it, like something someone's grandma might make. You can tell they know what they're doing back there. Portions are just right, not too heavy but definitely filling. It's also clean, both the space and how they present everything.
