So. Ridiculously. Expensive. I maybe understand paying that much for the beer, but the food was just awful. My pork tacos were on stale, store bought tortillas, with dry cheddar cheese that clearly came out of a bag. Been here twice already and I've had a good experience both times. It hasn't been too crowded so I've been able to get a seat at the bar or table easily. The food is typical bar food and average priced. Their specialty fries is worth a try... cheese and garlic butter make it unique. It's also a good portion for the price. Well overdue review of a place I tend to eat at once or twice a week. New Line Fries are amazing, and I always request the garlic aioli with basically anything I order. I've never eaten anything there I've disliked, or in fact not loved. Our neighborhood isn't the easiest to eat in sometimes (high prices some places, packed bars others) and this one consistently is neither packed to the gills, or completely empty, and it's affordable, fast, and delicious. The first time I came in to New Line I was driven away by the smell of vomit at the doorway. I recently decided to give the food a shot and ordered takeout from there. Given the menu description, I had high expectations for the Carolina pulled pork sandwich and the new line fries. In concept, this is a great meal but the execution falls fall short. The pretzel bun was the best thing about the sandwich. The bbq sauce was watery and kind of terrible. The coleslaw on the sandwich tasted off, and too vinegary. And this brings us to the fries. As I got my food, I discovered that the smell I had initially identified as vomit, was actually the new line signature fries. Deciding to take my chances, I sampled the fries and discovered that they taste like vomit as well. I offered my friend some of the fries, and after one bite she was finished and had to rid her mouth of the taste. With a new restaurant, I could understand inconsistency but this was unacceptable. Avoid at all costs or enjoy your vomit fries. read more

My girlfriend and I have gone here a few times because it's so close to my apartment. On both occasions we ate indoors, so I can't comment on the smells or L noise for people who sit in the outdoor section. At least on the nights that we went, the clientele was a pretty even spread from 20's to late 30's/early 40's. Not sure what it's like for the non-dinner crowd, or when a game is playing on the flat screens. Regardless, New Line is a nice place. Will definitely visit again soon. read more

So, I do live nearby, which is the main reason I stumbled into here. The food was really good - that pretzel roll does it for me every time. The beer selection is fantastic and cheaper than my old, hipster neighborhood bar (no offense peeps!). The place wasn't packed and we sat at the bar and watched the cubbies while we ate. Finally tried Green Line after living around the corner the last year. The food was really good and reasonably price, definitely a couple steps up from bar food. I was plesantly surprised by New Line. It's been around for a while and I don't live far but I just never had the urge to try it out. That was a mistake. I met up with some friends for some drinks and apps. Drinks were decent. I like how they come to your table with the martini shaker and pour the drink in front of you making sure you get every drop. My one disappointment...bad dirty martini. Very salty olive juice and no blue cheese stuffed olives..BOO. We ordered some chips with guac and salsa. I am not a quac fan but the salsa was delicous and served with very thin chips. We also ordered the baked goat cheese which was served with garlic bread. I thought they were a little stingy on the goat cheese and VERY generous on the marinara. Not really worth the price but it was good. I would however pass on the calamari. It was fine. Not great...I've had better. I will definitely go back. It's a perfect location for me and to meet up with my loop working friends who head over to the train! read more

When I hear "tavern", I think friendly, neighborhood...well, my second visit to New Line certainly proved that they've chosen the wrong name. The bartender was somewhere between callous and rude, pouring drinks as if they were intended for a mortal enemy and shoving glasses at the servers. I asked about wine, she walked away, handed me the wine list and walked away again. Came back, I ordered, she dumped the wine in glass, set it in front of me. And never spoke again. Lived two blocks away for a whole year, and this was my joint. Loved the buffalo chicken sandwich and the cheese curds and the side salads. For takeout they give huge portions of sides. I've eaten in the restaurant a few times and the server was very nice and food came very quickly, just as the takeout always does! Overall solid bar food! read more

I thought the food was pretty good, and the waitress we had was attentive and was always there to fill my drinks and she was prompt. Great pumpkin spice martini! Nice after work spot, with decent beer selection, not many wine options, but a good mixed drink/martini menu. For bar food, they do offer plenty of veggie options. Veggie burger is ok, the veggie sandwich is good and the mac and cheese is decent. read more

We go here a least twice a month for lunch and it is good and fast. Other then the 'New Line Fries' everything is really good. I have had a good mix of items from the menu although the Baja Fish taco's are my favorite followed by the burgers, which are large. Watch out for the lamb burger; it is very good but you will smell like it for the rest of the day. It is priced acordingly for the area so $15 for burger/soda and tip is standard for lunch. My only complaint is they over-salt some of the stuff, especially the fries, so I usually ask for them before they add salt. There only one or two large table so call first if you plan to show up with 8+ people. read more

We've been here a few times for drinks and it's ok. I wouldn't take out of town friends here or anything. It's a bar with mediocre drinks and ok service. Nothing to write home about. But it is close to where I live and when you want a drink (beer or easy mixed drink), it's slim pickings in the area. While visiting from out of town we stopped by this place. My 4 year old wanted the chicken and waffles. We ordered not long after a table nearby and had to wait about 20 minutes after them to get our food. Finally our waitress came by and told us that their waffle iron was broken. We compromised by asking for a side of fries instead of the waffles. They brought out his food and his chicken was dry and tasteless. Not to mention they charged us for the whole meal and added $4 for the side of fries. We will make sure we don't return next time we are in town. read more

My husband and I have been here twice now and were very happy both times. The first time was on a Friday night and we were seated immediately. The place was crowded, but there happened to be one open table. We both ordered the burgers and fries. I must say the burger is one of the best I've had. It's served on a pretzel bun which really makes it delicious. The second time we went was on a Thursday and again were seated quickly. We split a burger and Cobb salad - both were excellent! We are looking forward to bringing our friends here for dinner/drinks in the next couple weeks. I'm so glad this new place is so close to home and I know that we will be going there often!
