The staff isn't very talkative but not in a bad way. The food always taste fresh and amazingggg the natural juices are great and you wont leave with that disgusting overstuffed feel you get from chain restaurants. I 100% recommend this place. Food is great if you're looking for cheap, good Mexican food. It's usually pretty empty inside but don't be deceived. The guacamole is actually one of my favorites in the area. I've eaten inside and had a great time. I've also used their take-out mobile ordering system and was told it would be ready in 10-15 mins. I went 20 minutes later and was told I had to wait an additional 10-15 mins. The kitchen seemed backed up. Regardless, it's a good spot if you're looking for an affordable meal and good food. I'll be returning. Tip for management: don't be so cheap on things, I asked for a side of limes and was told it cost extra. Those are the things that scare off your customers. read more

We walked by at around 1:15am and weren't sure if they were open, as there wasn't a single person in the restaurant. This is typically a "bad" sign, but we were all hungry and decided to go in anyway after asking if they were open. I'm glad we did because I really liked my food a lot! I ordered the huevos rancheros. My friends ordered guacamole, enchiladas, and a tostada. We all thought the food was really good. My only complaint is the heat level of the salsa--it was pretty extreme to me. There were certain bites that felt like my stomach was on fire!! And that can really ruin a meal quickly. Still, I ate it and washed the heat down with a beer, and still had enough for a full meal in the morning. I'd definitely recommend if you need a quick late-night meal. Order taking guy went to the kitchen right after he took our orders and just disappeared for 25 minutes while there were people out here trying to order or trying to get service to their tables. During this time, there was no communication on how long this is going to take. We couldn't even get someone to talk to. We couldn't wait any longer, so we finally asked the only other staff what is going on. Is our food even being made? If not, we're going to go somewhere else. NOPE, they didn't even start making our food yet 25 minutes later and they didn't even mention anything to us. Zero Communication. I guess they just expected us to wait as long as they take to make the food. A friend and I walked out to get something else....screw that...never coming to this place....Why didn't the guy say something if it would take much longer than usual to make our food? We were not the only customers there getting screwed....there were about 8 tables...no service...6 other people waiting on their food at the counter....none of them had gotten their food while I was there for 25 minutes...and barely anyone at the counter....The only guy just came in and out from the kitchen without apologizing and saying anything... WTF Two other friends who were with us eventually waited about 55 MINUTES to get the WRONG ORDERS........and less than mediocre food.... People here need to boycott this type of time wasting service....stop ordering from them...let someone else take over their business.... read more

All the five star reviewers are clinically insane. The tacos/food here are made with zero care. They scream "we don't give a shit, white people." The tortas and some of the tacos are filled with omfgwtw (oh my fucking god where is the water) hot sauce, how is food supposed to be appetizing when my mouth is on fire? I was on a mission. Find the best burrito in NY. I scoured the internet for recommendations. Yelp has usually been pretty on so I placed a hefty amount of faith in their recommendation. Yelp lied. The staff is friendly and the food arrived quickly. The ambiance is expected for a Mexican restaurant. Despite the adequate seating, I opted to take out. Upon the praise for a fellow yelper I order the carnitas burrito. I was expecting a burrito that would bring forth taste bud fueled images of the streets of Mexico City, crowded stadiums celebrating the victory of a matador over his cursed bull. I longed for those moist morsels of tender pork that would make Santa Ana weep. The burrito was to come with rice, beans, lettuce, tomato, cheese, sour cream and guacamole. What did I receive? A totally acceptable but completely boring burrito. The lettuce, tomato, guac, and sour cream weren't even in the burrito. What do I want to do with a pile of foliage and tomato? Throw it out i guess... As for the flavors, they were ok. But for a 4 star establishment? Maybe the yelp stars have gone to their heads and the fame is hurting their craft. Please don't take this as a slam on the restaurant, it is not about the food. It is about the absurdly hyperbolic reviews that are ruining our country. You might walk by this place, and not even give it much thought, thinking it just looks like some run of the mill local Mexican place but WOO HOO....it is quite amazing. The first time I ate here was when a more adventurous friend suggested we actually try this authentic looking restaurant and we both ordered the Chilaquiles Verde. It was phenomenal, really freshly grilled chicken in a perfectly spicy verde sauce. I started ordering this dish regularly on my own for late night take-outs. I recently have added to my repertoire the beef tacos (as per the waitresses recommendation) and also the Gorditas and Huaraches are so crazy good you won't believe it. This place makes Calexico and Papacitos seem like child's play. Step up to the plate and eat here it will be a grand slam! read more

Used to be our go to place, as they do have good al pastor and a semi decent veggie burrito. However after this Saturday night never again. The entire staff was having a communal dinner at 730 PM, and watching tv. They forced either the newest or youngest member to come help us. He took our orders for drinks and food never mentioning that the staff couldn't be disturbed to help guest. Well our drinks finally arrived after 30 minutes, at this point we asked if the chefs were going to be doing any cooking or if they were planning on finishing their viewing of the soccer match on tv. Very good. Crispy gorditas, homemade nachos, and the adobo rojo de cerdo (pork in red sauce) was fantastic, with amazingly spiced rice. Plus they have coke made with real sugar. I do wish my pork portion had been a bit larger, but that's just in comparison to standard American trough-style restaurants, so belay that. My refried beans were good and tender, but not stand-out. I lived nearby for about a year before I tried New Mexico Place Restaurant. And it was only because a few friends have recommended it. I am glad I did because the dishes I've tried have been delicious. Amongst my favorites are the mushroom quesadilla and chicken flautas. I do like the squash quesdilla too, but tend to order it only if mushroom is not available. I usually order and carry out. I've brought a friend that is much more familiar with latin cuisine who found the place quite authentic. He ordered the enchiladas suizas. I definitely want to check what my west coast friends think. Other times you order, wait an hour, call, they have no idea what you're talking about. Then come back and say 10 mins. Then 20 mins goes by and you call back. What do they say?
