I ordered the Newk's Choose Two. I chose the Caesar salad and the pepperoni pizza. I can honestly say that I enjoyed my meal. The salad was fine, but the pizza was superb. I'm not a fan of fresh tomatoes on my pizzas (weird, huh?), but I didn't mind the fresh tomatoes once I actually saw them. This particular Newk's is spacious, so COVID guidelines are definitely enforced. I sat in an available booth that did not have neighboring guests which was good. My roommate and I decided to have Newk's Eatery while on our way home from work. It was something quick just to hold us over until we would cook dinner. I had never been before, however my roommate is very fond of it. I looked up the menu on the way there and decided to just stick with a salad. I chose the chef salad which originally consists of ham, turkey, mixed greens, grape tomatoes, cucumbers, cheddar, herbed croutons, and your choice of dressing. I ordered my salad without cheddar cheese and herbed croutons, and I got Italian Dressing. The staff inside were very friendly and all of them had on their mask and those who were preparing the food had on proper gloves and hairnets. I really like this place, it is very similar to Panera bread but they have their own pizzas there and the one I had was AMAZING. It was spicy and had their own white barbecue sauce, (what tha?), and it was delicious. Barbecue chicken, bacon, peppers...yum. My dad and brother liked theirs as well and they have a large condiment bar with all kinds of things you can add to your pizza, soups, or sandwiches. The prices are good here. Big fan. read more

This was my first time eating at Newk's downtown. I placed a large order for myself and 9 other co-workers. The total was $155.00+, which included voluntary 10% Gratuity. I was impressed that the order was delivered pretty fast by the Waitr delivery service. However, the order was incorrect and short a few items. The experience was frustrating, especially because there was a group of hungry people wondering why they didn't get what they paid for. Good food and good service. Can get busy during lunch times but if you call ahead it wont be that bad. I usually go with the mouth watering pizza or a smoked ham sandwich that comes with a side. On the downside, it can get a bit loud but it is not nerve wrecking by any means. Sit back on a nice day outside at one of their four tables and watch the traffic go by. read more

I've dined at Newk's on several different occasions and I'm a firm believer that you just have to order the right thing. The pizza is really good and the sandwiches can be delicious while cutting the roof of your mouth (thanks Sourdough bread!), There's nothing too special about the salads and the soups can be a hit or miss. All drinks are sold separately...you've gotta pay for that jumbo cup that changes colors every season/holiday/awareness month. All jokes aside, I actually look forward to the red, pink and teal cups!! Newk's is more of a weekday lunch spot if it's the last options around your office building or a Sunday lunch/early dinner type of place. It's what I like to call a "safe" place to dine. Racist employees?? It's 8:35 pm, the advertised time of closing is 9 pm. I've been here for about 10 minutes waiting on my order. The young lady, who happened to be black, who took my order was very sweet and helpful. I placed my to go order and sat down. I'm a white male and all the employees, save for one, are black. After i sat down to wait for my order, another white couple came in to order. One of the black line cooks began saying "we are closed" in a very aggravated manner. Not directly to the couple who just walked in but loud enough so everyone could hear him. He grumpily went about his job complaining the whole while. After that couple sat down, a black man named "Mr. Lewis" came in to order and that very same employee came up to the front and was very jovial with the black customer, laughing and joking and making now mention of the time. Not sure why they were closed 25 minutes early to a white couple but welcoming to a black customer with 15 minutes to go, but I won't be back to find out. Very disappointing. The sweetness of the young lady at the register was totally outweighed by the racist mumbling a of the clearly prejudiced man preparing the food. read more

Parking and accessibility were horrible. Not to mention the "security guard" In the adjoining Arby's only parking during the lunch rush. I had to walk a good distance but I needed the steps. On the way out, Fishmarket had a sign I originally missed that will allow you to use their parking lot. BOO ARBYs you have a drive through! Back to the food! It was great once I finally got to eat it. The pace inside was hectic but WORTH the wait which was not long at all considering how many people can just walk to their location. Really enjoyed my lunch just had to walk for it. All in all a great experience, just need more parking for people who are not just down there. Food was really good as always but it's the second time I have had trouble with an online order and the pickup process. The first time I had to call them to being the food out after the app read it was ready. I couldn't get out of the car for personal reasons, which is why I called in to drive up. This was on an app. Through Yelp it was confusing as to wether I was to go in or drive up curbside. The time indicated was way off too. This place is always super busy during lunch. Either go at 11 or after 12:30 if you want to snag a table. Otherwise, get it to go or be prepared to stand around and wait for one to open up. Several times they've had my food ready before I've found a table. That's a bit of a bummer. Service is usually pleasant, but really only consists of the order-taker at the counter and the person who brings your food to the table. Laminated numbers are handed out at the counter which you place in holders on the table. The atmosphere is casual contemporary. Booths line the perimeter with tables a little too closely packed in the middle. At times, you can't get in and out of your chair without having a near miss with your neighbor. The low hanging light fixtures that accompany a booth on the inside wall are a hazard to anyone over 5'4". Try for a booth on an exterior wall. Now to the food . . . good selection of soups, salads, sandwiches & personal pizza. What? You were expecting haute cuisine? This is an upscale fast-food place guys. That being said, the items I've had have been really good. The soups have a robust, depth of flavor and you get a big bowl for your dime. Try the chicken tortilla and loaded potato. The sandwiches have all been great tasting. The chicken salad is yummy with chunks of white meat, grapes & pecans. The pimeno cheese is creamy yet chunky. The grilled chicken is tender. I just wish they weren't so skimpy with the ingredients. The bread has a good flavor and consistency to it, but when they toast it . . . let's just say it can be a bit tiring to chew, chew, chew. I can't speak on the pizzas as I've never ordered one. The salads, oh the salads! Chef salad has just the right amount of ham and turkey, The black & bleu with grilled steak, bleu cheese & pecans is wonderful. Newk's "favorite" salad has grilled chicken, bleu cheese, dried cranberies, grapes, artichokes & pecans and is a treat. Another plus about Newk's . . . they have a fabulous condiment table located at the front of the restaurant. Bowls of roasted garlic, pepperocinis, sliced jalapenos, sweet pickles, shredded parmesean, capers, croutons, thin breadstick bundles, and bottles of oil, vinegar (red win & sherry), sea salt & black pepper grinders, and shirachi sauce. Simple spot to grab a quick lunch or dinner. 4 stars for consistency here because I feel like when you go to Newk's you know what you are going to get which is comforting. Came here today for a quick lunch to-go and got the newk's Q and the royal sandwich - both hot and very flavorful. The royal had a tangy spicy mustard on it which paired perfectly with the meat. The bread was soft and hugged the sandwich well. The Q is always a surprisingly yummy white BBQ bite whether in sandwich or pizza form. The only complaint I have is that almost everything on the menu is teetering around the 1000 calorie mark I think mostly because of their sauces/dressings. What matters is that it's always good. In case you are unfamiliar, Newk's serves soups, salad, sandwiches, and personal-sized pizzas. Newk's also has some fantastic pimiento mac and cheese with bacon - just the right level of crispy. The Newk's "Q," which can be ordered as a sandwich or a pizza, is my current go-to. It includes grilled chicken, bacon, Swiss cheese, and white barbeque sauce. Lastly, Newk's serves some respectable sweet tea. My food took a long time to come out last time I visited Newk's, which didn't make sense because the restaurant was not crowded, and there were a million people behind the counter, but I still know I'll be back because, well, it's Newk's, and it's a reliable fall back. read more

The food at this location is good, but parking is tricky. During lunch time the parking is nearly impossible. I think they get most of their business from walk-ups. And the service is just okay. Prompt, friendly service. Clean establishment. Not much different from other Newk's locations, except a much more diverse clientele and WAY better people watching. I generally hit this spot up in the evening; due to it's close proximity to the medical district and even downtown businesses, lunch can be crazy. I still can't get over the Bacon & pimento Mac&cheese. It's a borderline obsession of mine. And I sometimes forget about the Italian sandwich, but then my eyes see hearts around it on the menu. This sandwich also holds up well as leftovers. I'll get a half sandwich and cup of soup combo, eat the soup, save the sandwich for later, stretch the dollar a bit. I had the best salad that I've eaten in the last year at Newk's. It was the Newk's Favorite and had mixed greens, tender chicken, dried cranberries, gorgonzola cheese, and a whole mess of other stuff, lightly dressed with a sherry vinaigrette. Super good! We did go a little on the later side for lunch (1230-ish), so it wasn't that crowded. There was no wait to order and we were served within 10 minutes. There are also "Grab and Go" salads and sandwiches, if you are pressed for time. It is, technically, upscale fast-food, but my response to that is "So what?" I travel a lot and often get stuck eating at the same Subway for 3 days if I want to eat semi-healthy. Its kinda the Panera of the south . They are known for their salads, sandwiches ,pizzas and soups( which is similar to panera) The only difference they don't have tons of bakery options. They have good cake slices ( which I find more here in the south in comparison to other regions of the US). -The Cesar salad with salmon is one of my favorite ( next time i would as for the dressing on the side, as they go a little happy in the amount of dressing) -The southern salad is also really great. They have a rotating soup list that I like I'm a big fan of their crawfish soup and the sandwich selection is really big. The food always tastes fresh and the atmosphere is nice when you want to get out of the office and stretch your legs for a good walk. It's usually crowded during peak lunch hours. As far as for catering I've had a few times when they'd forget my serving utensils or plates so you have to stay on them about that. Went and tried out our nearby Newk's, for breakfast today...EGGsceptional! Couldn't resist that. First of all, I ordered from the app; GREAT app. As I chose my items, it let me customize them, adding and deleting the ingredients, to make the perfect breakfast for me. Secondly, as I placed the order, it said appropriately 10 minutes; I walked in at the 9 minute mark and they were putting it in the bag. Awesome. Thirdly (saving the best for last) it was hands down, THE BEST BREAKFAST I have had in quite awhile. I ordered the Bacon-Egg-Pimiento Cheese Croissant, minus the bacon, adding mushrooms and caramelized onions, with a side of Pimiento Cheese Stone Ground Grits. OMg saying it was incredible wouldn't do it justice. The croissant was perfect; buttery and flaky. There was a generous helping of onions (yummy), and the pimiento cheese gave it this uniquely delicious twist...but the EGG; although I can't say with 100% certainty, I'm going to SAY anyway...they were a soufflé!!!! Soft, fluffy, airy deliciousness, in the middle of what was already just GREAT...and with that side of creamy, perfectly made grits with pimiento cheese...I was in Breakfast heaven! Friday Nov. 16th order: Ordered the Newk's Favorite salad (1st time) and was massively disappointed in the quality or lack thereof. The roasted chicken was the absolute worst...not only was it bone dry throughout, parts of it were nearly desiccated and impossible to chew. I threw it out and will never eat there again. How do you screw up a salad?!?! Clearly this chicken crossed the road to get away from Newk's. Maybe it was just this store, who knows. read more

Just go to the Vestavia location. This was a fail all around. Took 20+ mins for a to go order (took everybody who order this amount of time). There was a full crew..but only 1 person was making the food and 1 cashier. That defeats the purpose of a full staff. Fast forward to getting home...half of the ingredients aren't even on my sandwich! I'll just add the extra 10 mins on my trip and go to a neighboring location because this one needs major work. Update: Went back and service was much better. Saw some new faces so maybe that was it. Food was great! Go my order perfect. i love Newks. good food and amazing soups. I always enjoy my food there. but this time the service was horrible. this location needs to hire more gender fluid and open non agressive males. Walked in with my girlfriend to stares from bussers, snickers and side conversations. we came in roughly around 2:30 so noone was really in there. one employee even went out his way to follow her to the drink machine and say "excuse the hell out of me" while staring her up and down in an inappropiate manner. we really felt uncomfortable. read more

Always a good choice. Had never eaten there until I did my externship with TKC and when there for lunch. Super convenient which might be the only down fall bc all the employees and doctors and patients go there for lunch so it can be busy and difficult to find a table but before/after lunch is fantastic! Even during lunch rush the food is quick and prepared correctly. They are always supporting a cancer group with their colorful cups and it's nice place to hang out with a group.
