I enjoyed my time at Newk's. I met one of my dearest friends for lunch and when we were trying to figure out where to go we agreed we wanted to go somewhere we hadn't been too (well at least together). We chose Newks because it had a variety and was easy for the children to have something they would like as well. Our food was delicious! I am always a bit nervous with new restaurants because you just never know. I ordered the half plate- with a sandwich and soup. I'm was delighted not only was the advice great, the cashier helped me walk though the options but it was delivered to my table very quickly. I was nervous to try a new sparkling water and it did not disappoint! The restaurant was busy but it was not inconvenient. Newk's reminded me a little bit of Panera Bread. They have an extensive menu of soup, salads, sandwiches, pizzas, and more. They also have a topping bar with classic soup and salad toppings to add based on your own liking. Everyone in my group was able to pick something that suited their tastes and of all our meals were completely different. I tried the "pick two" option and got a half sandwich and soup. My sister got a full salad. My nephew got some Mac and cheese, and my mom got a soup and salad. Prices were higher than I'm used to for a meal like this, but being able to please every palette was a huge plus for our pickier eaters. read more

I heard they had tasty food here and was excited to try something new. I went with some friends after what seemed like a working party (love those) which is always nice, so we all get something different to try. I tried Newks Q Sandwich which was tasty it had a white sauce in it and some bacon which I thought was an awesome combo. For my side I ordered the Mac and cheese which was deliciously cheesy in all the right ways. It was piping hot which I appreciated and looked divine. We also ordered a pizza to share. We used to absolutely LOVE the "Mediterranean Pizza" here. Today was another story. The chicken was BURNT and instead of making another batch they put it under the cheese. Both pizzas or so bitter because of how burnt the chicken was and then being cooked in the pizza oven again. There's garbage all over their kitchen area not very well cab I will not be back.! I've been here a couple times. Newk's is just OK to me. I don't mind coming here with my coworkers (they love it), but it isn't amazing in my opinion. I got a salad this last time and they really do it up. Huge portion but it comes in this super fancy bowl that's pretty difficult to eat out of. My coworker who also got a salad agreed. If you try to put pressure on a certain side of the bowl (to get salad on your fork), the entire bowl almost falls over. I had to catch mine. Decent salad, terrible bowl. Lol. We popped in with the kids before making a trip to Costco. Grocery shopping on an empty stomach isn't wise, right? I ordered the Southern salad with Honey Mustard and it was delicious. Fresh and big enough to have leftovers. My husband ordered the club and was satisfied. Some of my girls wanted a BLT bit couldn't find one on the menu. BF and I were going to catch a movie, but wanted to go somewhere for a quick bite on a Sunday (late) morning. We'd never been to Newk's, but I'd seen it many times driving by Target in Summerville. The parking lot looked packed, but that could be misleading considering there are many other food places in the same area. We walked in and there was a short line. People, who were clearly regulars, were ordering. I feel like they were regulars because they were all holding green cups with "Newk's" on it and they hadn't ordered yet. Ordering was quick and easy and our food was delivered to our table fairly quickly for what looked like a busy Sunday morning. The dining area is big and was fairly crowded for Sunday, so we opted to sit near the quick service area. There was hardly anyone over there. My shrimp po boy was pretty good and the Mac and cheese was delicious! BF got an Italian sandwich which he devoured, but then said it was okay. I seem to be on a roll lately with picking good places to eat - all thanks to Yelp :) We stopped in here on our way to Target since we had never been and Yelp gave it more than 3 stars. I went with the mac and the Newk Q while Burns went with some sort of italian sandwich. We grabbed our giant cups (which we took - I assume that is ok) and had a seat. The sandwich - amazing. It was the perfect temperature and was incredibly juicy (if that makes sense). The mac - meh. I really like that is was very creamy and it tasted nice, but I could not make out any real cheese flavor. It was definitely more of a creamy mac than a cheesy mac - very hard to explain. Still, I ate the entire serving. I decided to get a piece of cake to go on a whim. Best choice of the evening. I went with chocolate, because why not, and it was a struggle to wait until I got home to eat it. It was very moist and not overly sweet like a lot of chocolate cakes with frosting tend to be. Just big enough to fill me up. The cups at Newk's are enormous which is nice to take with you for your ride home. A good dining experience. Update - Got the Margherita Pizza again today. I had never been into, nor had I ever heard of Newk's. So when I saw it on a shopping trip to the Target in Azalea Square, I was very curious. It was love at first bite! When you walk in there is a big menu on the wall. They mainly offer soups, sandwiches, salads, and pizza. I have been to Newk's several times now and have ordered several different sandwiches. My two faves (so far) are the Chicken Pesto and the "Newk's Q". You pick you food from the wall menu, order and pay at the counter, they give you a number, and you seat yourself. Everything is made FRESH TO ORDER. So while you are waiting for your food there is a condiment bar filled with lots of yummy goodies like roasted garlic, capers, bread sticks, etc... this is my favorite part of the Newk's: I love the pickle bar! The servers are super nice and very helpful. I was in today with a broken arm and one of the servers offered to pour my water, and grab me a few condiments so I wouldn't have to do it myself. My only complaint ( and this will not seem like much of a complaint to most), they only have one size of soft drink and it's HUGE: Like 32oz huge. I know, most people drink that much soda these days, but I just want a small cup. I know-not a "real" complaint. So I always just get water. We were shopping in the area and decided to stop for dinner. I really liked the atmosphere of the restaurant- it was quiet and clean. We love Newk's! Wednesday night kids nights are the best. Newks is a family favorite pick in our house.

I had the half soup half salad combo on a Monday and was pleasantly surprised and the great soup choices. I ended up with the crab and corn chowder with a Cesar salad. The soup was great, not too fishy like some crab chowders. The Caesar salad was a little on the wimpy side because I usually like the lighter pieces of romaine and got mostly the leafy ends. But the best part was the free condiment bar. Great breadsticks! Great pickles! Great roasted garlic! Plus we were approached twice by two manager to see if everything was ok and if we needed anything. By far, my first experience here was great plus the food was excellent and I will probably be coming back in the future! read more

My experiences at Newk's Eatery have declined to a certain degree since my first review. In the past I really enjoyed their salads, however on my last several visits I have found that my salads of been primarily lettuce mix or a lettuce blend with much less of the key ingredients, like the protein, cheese, veggies ect. I feel the value isn't what it once was. On my most recent visit, I ordered a turkey and avocado sandwich with a side of fruit. The sandwich was a decent size but was plastered with too much mayo, the fruit seemed fresh and while the price was comparable to other eateries in the rapidly expanding area, so was the quality of the food and the level of service. Where I once saw an establishment that was heads and shoulders above the rest, I now see another local eatery with primarily average food and customer service. read more
