I have been eating at the Newks on Thomasville for as long as they have been open. I also ate at the old Newks on W Tennessee several times when they were open. Tonight was one of the worst restaurant experiences of my life. I ordered takeout salads and sandwiches. When I arrived about 10 mins before closing I was greeted by turned backs as the staff was busy closing. After several mins standing there I was finally acknowledged. I received my order and checked it. It was incomplete, missing an entree Cajun shrimp salad. I pointed it out and asked for one, the young man at the counter said the kitchen was closed. It was still 5 mins until 8 pm, the closing time! I then paid and when I checked my receipt it was wrong too! The staff were surly and arrogant and made it clear they were only interested in leaving. Paneras is right across the street and there are several alternatives either next door, a family owned Italian place- Village Pizza- great pasta at a fair price. Miss the old pre-Covid Newks. Went in Sunday afternoon. Staff polite, and service was timely. My husband liked his soup & sandwich. My chicken pasta salad was swimming in dressing - too much! The place is run down and dirty. None of the faucets worked and no soap for handwashing. Tables and floors dirty inside and out. Tiles missing from steps to booths. Paint looks old, dark, dingy, dirty. Cleaniness was poor! Very few people in the place - granted it was late afternoon, but the parking lot was full, and lot's of business in other Market Square restaurants. I'm a retired infection control nurse, but my husband isn't as picky - we both had an ick impression. read more

Visited Newk's for the first time since they opened back up. I was very pleased to see all employees had on masks and gloves. The young lady who took our order was very pleasant. We ended up ordering our meal to go, and hubby didn't check the bag before we pulled off. Got all the way home and realized my half simply salad was not in the bag. I called the restaurant and although they were a few minutes past closing they still graciously took my call and said they'd put my information down regarding the mishap and I could come in at any time to get my salad. I drove out there the next day and Kat brought out my salad at the curbside spot. It was also a full salad, which I appreciated. I will say the lobster bisque and chocolate cake we also ordered tasted wonderful, but the chicken pesto sandwich my husband ordered left much to be desired. Soo this is a fast casual joint that's honestly hit or miss in my opinion. I think it's one of those places where depending on what you get it's either a 3 star to 5 star. Quality is good through and through. Food: So for me it really depends on what you get. In my opinion I think the sandwiches are 3 stars because they're a bit small but they have flavor but nothing crazy. My grilled chicken was actually a bit dry. My wife loves their salads though because they are tasty and they give you big portions. Also it's a bit pricey in my opinion. Service/decor: This place is fast casual so nothing really crazy. I wish we had one where we live in Chattanooga. We miss getting to eat here like we often did when we lived here. The chicken salad salad was awesome and I'd love to be able to eat these every couple of weeks or so. The kids enjoyed their meals and my wife loved her half vegetarian sandwich and soup. I would have given five stars had they not made my daughter wait 10-15 minutes longer for her food than the rest of us. When I went to ask the girl at the counter what the deal was, she just asked my order number and walked away before I could even retrieve the receipt from my wallet to give her the number. This location sits in the Village Square Shopping Plaza on the end across from Applebee's. There is plenty of parking. Even though the restaurant was super crowded I had no issues finding a parking spot. The first thing I noticed was the outside patio to the side of the restaurant, as me and my son love sitting outside to eat when the weather is nice. They also have a few tables in the front. When you walk in the menu is to your left. And, seriously, EVERYTHING sounded good! I finally settled on the sausage and pepperoni pizza and my son got the spicy shrimp pizza, both 10 inch crusts, and a slice of their caramel cake, which was free. You order, they give you a number card and you place it in your tables card holder and they bring you your food. As I said before, it was super crowded a little after 1:00 but our food still came out very quickly. The pizza had a thin and flaky crust that was delicious! I tried both as did my son and we loved them both. I even had leftovers to bring home. The caramel cake was moist and not too overly sweet. I would definitely order both again. The workers were very friendly and even when I walked in to get to go boxes for the leftovers I assumed I had that confused look on my face as a worker asked if he could help me. The to go boxes are in the middle of the restaurant for you to grab yourself. The food was wonderful! Lots of seating inside with outside seating too and I love the family atmosphere. Great prices as well. We will definitely be back to try more of the menu. Tip: sign up with them online and they will send you an email for a free slice of cake. Delicious food! I would definitely recommend eating in store. I've done take out a few times and it always feels like less and leaves me feeling hungry yet when I eat there I have leftovers to take home. It may be because of the bar of extras yet I always only have a few pickles and bread sticks with my meal so the difference isn't due to that, I feel like. Other than that, the service is quick and I really enjoy the chicken sandwich and the take three salad (it's not on their posted menu in the store but they do make it and it's a wonderful lunch or lighter meal that I feel like is very filling yet not heavy. I used to really like this place but I feel like the quality has gone down. Last time I was there I ordered a half sandwich (Newks Q) and half salad (Caesar) and a drink which all came out to about $10. My order was to go and funny thing about this place is you can clearly see when someone is preparing your food. So I'm sitting there for 15 minutes and I notice other people's food coming out who ordered after me which was a huge put off. I think they honestly forgot about my order because I didn't see them preparing it until 15 minutes in. So in total I waited 20 minutes for my to go order that was something as simple as a sandwich. Newk's is Panera's nicer, prettier sister. The menu is similar to Panera - salads, soups, sandwiches. Except Newk's sandwiches are exponentially better with more options. Plus, they have pizza, beer, wine and the Round Table of delicious add-ons. I've eaten at both the Tennessee and north TLH location, both are great! It's the perfect spot for a lunch meeting or casual meetup - order at the counter and meals are delivered. Service has always been quick & kind. Their little condiment bar is very well stocked (pickles, jalapeños, the works!) and the staff is friendly - also love that they have the caloric info for everything readily available. When I have a late night at work, and the thought of cooking makes me want to pop a frozen pizza in the oven, I head to Newk's. The salads are fresh and full of delicious ingredients while the pizzas are flavorful and offer some unique combinatioms. My favorites are the Greek salad (complete with kalamata olives, feta cheese, and tasty dressing) and the Spicy Sicilian (capicola, salami, pepperoni, provolone cheese, parmesan cheese, crushed red pepper garnished with capers and green onion). Newks use to be my favorite place to eat a good salad. But it's that no real concern is put to correct pool service when it comes getting an order right. Particularly when time and time again you specifically tell them you have food allergies to lettuce and the order always comes with lettuce. Better care in taking orders would be a plus when it comes to customer service. read more

We watched over the weeks as the former Morelia's storefront transformed into Newk's Express Cafe. Finally there were menus posted out front prior to their opening, so we got a hint of what was going on. Our first thought? Newk's and the word 'Express' screamed 'everything in the microwave!'. Thankfully, Newk's is a play on the owners last name (Newcomb, I think). We've already been twice, the goal being to let you know what to expect. The decor is fresh, the help in abundance, the menu comprehensive but not extensive. It's an order at the counter and we'll deliver it restaurant. Newk's does offer a twist - a "Roundtable" offering free breadsticks, condiments, etc. I'm already a fan of the hot peppers. Try the roasted garlic cloves - pleasingly mild. Choose from toasted sandwiches, several 10" pizzas, salads (HUGE bowls - you'll see), beer, wine by the glass - a nice variety without being overwhelming. Ordering, in spite of a fair number of guests trying out the place, has been quick and efficient. Just remember that it's just opened, so service glitches are unavoidable. But this is about food. What about that? My choice was the Italian sandwich. Plentifully filled and served nicely warm and toasted, this proved to be quite tasty. Sided with "Tippah County" caviar (black eyed pea salad), it was filling, and I'd order again. My partner tried the chicken salad, also toasted. A chicken salad connoisseur, she was pleased. Our second visit was with a close friend (our Wednesday night dinner partner). My wife wanted to try the pizza, and settled on the Veggie. Our friend went with the Pesto Chicken sandwich. I went again with the Italian, but added a side Caesar and cole slaw for this round. My sandwich - very consistent with the first one I had. The Caesar salad was served with too much dressing, but I know to ask for light next trip. The Romaine was cool and crisp, not that wilty shriveled stuff one often gets.The cole slaw - meh, I've had better. I jazzed mine up with Cholula hot sauce, a good option for me. The Pesto chicken was yummy. Tastes were offered - 3 votes FOR, none against. A side of Tippah caviar was too spicy hot for our friend, but quite okay for me. The pizza got a very good rating. Nicely grilled veggies (Portabellas, red and yellow peppers, artichoke hearts, tomatoes) added great flavor. Fresh basil and pesto also tasted very good. The crust was thin and with a crisp bite to it. Well done, this one. Keep in mind this is not gourmet dining, but it really is tasty food. It arrives very quickly at your table. The "Roundtable" gives you something to much on during the short wait. The BOH crowd seems well trained; FOH friendy and accommodating. Would we go again?
