    Big Beef & French Fries

I grew up on Friendly's. When I moved to North Carolina, the opened up a Friendly's in the town I was living and no other restaurant was a comfort like that place so far from my New England home. But they are pretty much gone, save a very endangered few. The good news is that Newport Creamery scratches that nostalgia itch. It makes sense as they both served the "Awful Awful" milkshake, with Friendly's rebranding it Fribble and changing the key ingredient from ice milk to ice cream (making it more of a traditional milkshake.) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newport_Creamery So they have a big beef - the same as Friendly's and it is a solid burger. They cook it how you like it and still have the option to serve it The Creamery Way (on white toast instead of a bun). Thee service the night I went was great. It is a tad expensive for what you get, but sometimes a dose of nostalgia is worth it!

Stopped by here today, we wanted a quick meal before leaving town / heading to the airport. I'm a fan of Newport Creamery, having grown up partially on the East Coast, but my fiance had never been. The mozzarella sticks grilled cheese sounded too tempting to resist, so we split that and the Vermonster. The mozz one was pretty good but the Vermonster was just okay; I didn't taste any syrup as advertised. We also got two Awful Awfuls - his was choco-nut and mine was peanut butter. I liked both but his was better. We also got sweet potato fries and onion rings for sides - the rings were good, the fries needed salt or something. It was about $50 with tip for all of that which seemed pricey, but both entrees were like $13 (the sides were premium and were extra), and each Awful Awful was like $7.50 each too. I noticed a few people just eating ice cream and that's a good option for this restaurant as well, just going for dessert. Overall I'd come back here but I might try other entrees on the menu or just do dessert.

If you live in Rhode Island, you probably have been to a Newport Creamery at least once...either a friend, relative or co-worker has met you here for a shake, ice cream or meal. The Newport Creamery has a rich history. The company's roots date back to 1928 when Samuel Rector, who was already in the milk business, took over a dairy on Van Zandt Avenue in Newport, Rhode Island and became a wholesale milk distributor. Four years later, in 1932, Mason Rector (Samuel's son) joined the business. That year, the Company also entered the retail business when it began to deliver milk house-to-house on Acquidneck Island In 1940, the Rectors opened what was described as a "Milk Bar", serving ice cream. The location of this "Milk Bar" is the exact location of the Company's flagship restaurant and plant - 208 West Main Road in Middletown, Rhode Island. With the opening of this first store, the Newport Creamery's ice cream business was now beginning. This last time, I got a milk shake, which goes by the trademark name of AWFUL AWFUL.....(LOL). It comes in many flavors like Vanilla, Chocolate, Coffee, Strawberry, Mint, Cotton Candy, Orange, Bubble Gum, Chocolate Mint, and Mocha. For about $6 for a regular size one, it's a filling sweet dessert !!!! The restaurants has a large selection of sandwiches, salads, soups, burgers, etc....so it's a local hangout for meals as well...not just sweet treats......

My aunt came in from California and her whole order was a catastrophe. She is allergic to nuts and they over cooked her burger. This is not good if she has a reaction we will be taking legal actions against this Newport Creamery. The waitress was very confused to take a coffee ice cream and bring maple walnut. The place was totally empty the manager asked did my aunt tell her she had an allergy. Why should she have to mention that is she ordered coffee ice cream. Very quiet.

There were only 3 tables full, my table being one of them, and yet service was painfully slow with at least 3 employees working. Ordered a 4 scoop sundae to share with my husband and a cup of coffee. Ice cream was dropped off with the bill and no coffee. Nobody came to check on us or collect the payment. Ice cream tasted artificial and cloyingly sweet. Tasted like the cheapest ice cream from the grocery store. I finally went to the front to pay and asked for the coffee to be removed from the bill. Our waitress didn't even turn around to look at me when another employee told her she needs to take it off the bill. Bad ice cream and service was non-existent. Hard pass.

Terrible service. Ordered a super sundae and a coffee for dine-in. The sundae came but the coffee never came. The bill had been brought with the ice cream and I expected the coffee to follow. Not only did they forget to bring it after already charging me, but the server never returned to our table to check on us or collect payment. Eventually we had to go up to the counter to tell them to have them remove the coffee from our bill and then pay. Not recommended and will not be back!

RI is known for their awful awful so we had to try it. I got the Oreo one. Honestly, I hated it. It's too icy. It tasted a little bit better if you drank it from the top but I don't get the hype.

I tried this place yesterday and have to admit that it was good. The service was a bit slow but the food made up for the delay. The burger was moist and so good! Perfect temperature Ofcourse I tried the shake and it did not disappoint- huge but satisfying! No flare but at the same time just enough for a low key day!

A cute hostess area for pickup orders, but we headed to the small dining room and grabbed a table. I ordered garlic Parmesan wings and a meatlovers pub pizza. Our server/bartender was pleasant and attentive the whole time. Our food arrived looking great. The wings were cooked nicely, jumbo sized with super crispy texture and juicy on the inside. The garlic Parmesan was... Interesting. I believe it's a mayo based sauce, similar to an Alabama white BBQ sauce. I could see the appeal in it but it wasn't for me personally. The pizza was great as usual. I love the combination of the toppings on the meatlovers with the sauce. I enjoyed every bite. While I don't need an excuse to come to Grainsley's as it's in my semi regular rotation, I didn't mind the chance to come back sooner than later for some awesome wings and pizza!

We came in, was greeted by the hostess, she was very nice. She told us we could go in the back and have drinks and an app while we waited for our table. Great! A waitress came by, took our order for drinks and app. She was very nice and cheery. We hoped to get her as the waitress. So far, so good right? We were sat and our nachos came out just as we just settled in which was good. I was disappointed that expediter didn't bother to get us plates or recognize that we needed them. She left before I could say anything so I had to flag her down for them. She did get them quickly. For some reason, the waitresses were all over the back table of loud girls. It appeared they were showering them with attention going back and forth all different waitresses. The place is incredibly loud, it was tough to have a conversation with my girlfriend while we. We tried several times to make any sort of eye contact with the staff to let them know we needed drinks and failed. Eventually, we stood up, walked over and asked a waitress for some waters. A waitress came to the table and gave us waters and asked if we wanted drinks but let her know we had already put them in. She seemed annoyed by us, even though we didn't do anything other than tell her we already had drinks in and that we may order some other things soon. Nobody ever came by to check on us even though they came every 2 minutes to gab with the back table. My girlfriend and I didn't really like the nachos. She felt the chili was burnt and I thought it was too salty. We were still hungry and going to ask for entrees, but we were so annoyed with feeling neglected that we decided to go elsewhere. I asked for a box for my food and the waitress said she'd be back and went and talked with the other table again for what seemed like an eternity. At that point we just wanted to leave and eat somewhere else. When she came back after a while I was like... Oh! There you are! And she took my payment. I hate not leaving tips, but I was aggravated. We shouldn't have to get up and ask for what we need. This was upsetting.

We ordered the mini stuffies, the hummus plate, and the fried pickles. The mini stuffies were a highlight. Loaded with Mello's chouriço and packed with flavor, they're a solid little bite. My grandfather set the bar pretty high for me on stuffies, and these came close. They have a different profile than what I grew up with; a little less bready, more chouriço forward, and the clam flavor takes a back seat. Not necessarily a complaint, they were just different from what I'm used to and were genuinely tasty. The lemon aioli on top was also a nice touch. The fried pickles were exactly what you want them to be. Crispy, well fried, and the breading actually stayed put while you ate them, which is more than I can say for a lot of fried pickles. They came with the same lemon aioli as the stuffies, which worked just as well here. The hummus plate was a bit of a letdown. We've had it many times before and it used to be a standout. This time the hummus itself was thick and pretty flavorless, more like a dense chickpea paste than anything else. The accompaniments were nice though and consisted of heirloom carrots, cucumbers, olives, cherry tomatoes, asparagus, pickled cauliflower, carrot, and a pepperoncini, all served alongside some buttery round crackers that were like a Ritz cracker's more refined cousin. The veggies saved the plate, but the hummus needs to find its way back. I suppose it could have just been an off batch and won't prevent us from trying it again. Cocktails were great, as usual. I had the Anana with scotch. I love pineapple and this has muddled pineapple and basil, pineapple juice, cracked black pepper. It's my go-to here and it delivered again. My partner went adventurous and ordered the Jungle Booby, which is built around tequila blanco and mezcal with campari, pineapple, grapefruit, lime, orgeat, and an absinthe spritz. The flavors were genuinely good, but the smokiness from the mezcal was a bit much for her taste. She followed it up with a glass of rosé and had no complaints after that. The cocktail wasn't the problem, it just wasn't her style. One of our favorite spots in Warren for a quick nibble, for a good reason.
