My mom had been wanting to try float therapy for a while and we finally went. I wasn't sure what to expect and was worried about cleanliness but this place was very clean and I learned that the tubs are not booked for one hour in between clients to ensure they are sanities after each use. Everything else was very amazing: organic shampoos/soaps, brushes, hairdryer, warm room so you're not cold when you get out. They even have a floating light ball you can put in the bath if you don't want it to be completely dark. Josh made us feel very comfortable and was very accommodating. If you are even slightly curious about floating or you float regularly I highly suggest Newport float! Everything is literally perfect I don't know where to start! The staff is amazing, the float tank rooms/shower area is always clean and tidy, they provide amazing shampoo and conditioner, the sauna is great, the bathroom is always clean, the environment itself is very welcoming, and I could go on and on! It can be a bit pricey if you are like me (kinda broke lol) but it is so worth it! There are great package deals and honestly, it seems very reasonably priced for what you are getting. I would also like to note that I have found that each time I float I find my experience gets better and better. It's almost like I had to get the hang of it! Being fairly new to floating and enjoying the first time I decided to find a place up in the Orange County area that I could try. Enter Newport Therapy. A pretty small place with two private float rooms it gets the job done. You have your room, a private shower and everything you need to get ready. The employee who helped us, Chad, was very welcoming and friendly. He walked us through the float process briefly and then allowed us to do our thing. He also explained the light meditation apparatus when I asked him about it. Might have to try that sometime... Discovered and added Float Therapy to the bucket list after reading Tim Ferriss' Tools of Titans (he mentions this as a prerequisite for responsible partaking of psychotropics)... but whatever your subsequent plans call for, Newport Float Therapy is a worthwhile adventure. Google image search for "sensory deprivation" and you get a lot of alarming images of claustrophobic clamshell pods that look more appropriate for cryo-freezing space travelers. Not so with Ron's facility. Think of these more like really deep closet-tubs that lead to Narnia. I'm on the fence about the healing powers of Mg in epsom salts. Most of the peer-reviewed research out there can't detect higher levels of it in your body after soaking in it. That said, when I overdid a strength session right before my first half ironman, coach-directed quality time in a hotel tub with epsom literally saved my butt for race day. Now that I know about NFT, I plan to treat myself to recovery days in "deco" here instead. I typically shy away from anything spa-like or bedecked in luxe adjectives like "Newport" because I typically roll into places flushed and disheveled from whatever the workout of the day was and/or covered in dog hair. I have visions of ladies who have put more investment into plastic surgery than I've put into my bike(s) looking down their ski-jumped snoots at me as they try to discretely follow me around with a dust pan/lint roller/etc. So in that regard, I'm relieved that I caught NFT on a "construction day" and could feel at home amidst exposed drywall but entirely functional facilities. Don't worry, Ron's got $50K of heavy duty filtration equipment so if you're a clean freak, my previous visit shouldn't ruin yours. One thing I noticed is it looks like there aren't [yet?] elaborate facilities to get dolled back up, blow dry your hair, etc. I'm guessing doing so might make noise for other floaters (although I write this mostly because of the signs in the lobby suggesting guests observe library levels of quiet; I personally heard *nothing* for the entirety of my 90 min float). It probably throws a wrench in facility scheduling as well. So if you need relatively more prep to feel comfortable out in public, schedule yourself accordingly! New tanks and varying times to float! I love the new 60 minute option, as Ron and the staff know - My tank time runs at 45 minutes, havent stayed in longer, not even once. Now I can use the 60 minute tanks (my favorite blue tank) and when you ad the shower, I'm out of there in 60 minutes and the cleaning cycle can begin. No more downtime between appointments! I felt like a new person after my first 60-min float! I came out of there smiling and was relaxed for days. After recently experiencing a lot of anxiety, I felt like I'd had a massage and talk therapy but all I did was float! They made me feel very comfortable and the process was easy to follow. Prior to my session Ron asked if I get cold easily and turned the water temperature up for me, which ended up being perfect. Im not good at meditation and at first it was a little weird to float, but next thing I knew it was over. Okay... YES to Newport float therapy. My mum and I decided we would try this place out for some rest and relaxation. We didn't really know what we were getting ourselves into but we had a vague idea.. once we got there, things got real. The young, nice man working there that night was real informative & super easy to talk to. He showed us around by taking us in the boiler room & pointing out how this whole thing works. And then he took us to one of the rooms with the tank and it was not what I was expecting .. the room has a shower, little bench & cabinet thing where towels are held. Then there is the door leading to the tank.. looks like a big refrigerator ! Open it up and it's dark in there and you can barely see the shallow water. After explaining to us how everything works , what to do and what not to do, the timing of everything and safety stuff.. we were ready to go in. So I went to the other tank.. undressed & washed off in the shower before hopping into this tank of relaxation! Oh & you gotta be completely naked when you go in!! Which, in my opinion, helps you relax even more. First thing that came to a surprise for me, was just how buoyant I became when I got in. I could barely sit down all the way without my legs floating to the top. It's super dark once the door is closed too so that got to be a bit jarring for me! But once I got used to it, I relaxed my body and i slowly eased into floating. Hands have to be up or the back is going to hurt from naturally hunching that happens when your arms are by your side. It took me awhile to get used to the feeling but after some time I started to feel nauseous. NOW- I have to say that I get easily seasick and carsick and all that.. & I think I got carsick on the way and then the whole time getting used to just floating must have made me seasick?? I have no idea but I am just really sensitive to motion sickness so I think it just wasn't a good night for me to try this new thing out- not the fault of the Newport float therapy AT ALL. I'm just sharing my personal experience. so I had to get out eventually because it was just getting too much and I could not get into it. I rinsed off & sat down for a good fifteen minutes. Once I felt okay again, I hopped back in and brought the little pillow thing for neck support. I soon found myself falling asleep and relaxing .. but towards the last 30 minutes or so! I heard the music ,which was louder than I thought , indicating that it was time to get out. So I did & I showered with their organic shampoo.. changed and dried off my hair. They have blow dryers and qtips and lotion for you to use after, I thought that was nice! Overall, I think I had a good time. It was a new experience and I do think that the next time- I will be able to enjoy it more because I know what to expect. The man helping us that night even told us that most peoples' first time isn't the best but more of a tester to see how they like it & such. And that the next times are where people come to truly appreciate the experience. Which I'm very much looking forward to my next visit!! I have to say though, I got amazing sleep that night !! And the following nights!!! It was AWESOME because I hardly get good sleep, without waking up several times throughout the night. So yeah, that was a plus for me. I was offered a chance to come back and try out the float therapy since I had a pretty bad experience with the Pandora light therapy. It was definitely a very interesting experience! It felt like I was floating in the middle of the ocean at night which was pretty cool. Since it was my first time, I started getting a little restless towards the end since it was 90 minutes long. Overall I would recommend trying float therapy out at least once in your life! $50 is a little steep but I heard they have groupons sometimes so I would look out for that. This is the first time I've tried float therapy and while I'm not a vegan or a hippy the idea of it did seem a bit out there for an average guy like me, until I tried it. It is a sensory deprivation experience that is part meditation, part hallucination, part vacation. The body temperature water is packed with salts like the Dead Sea leaving you so buoyant that you are suspended touching nothing, feeling nothing, seeing and hearing nothing. Truly at one with ones self. This is so cool and accessible to everyone. Your skin feels fantastic afterwards and whatever stress you went in with is gone when you come out. The facility is brand new, it's just off the 405 and Harbor, the staff is great and it is a lot closer then the Dead Sea. While this was my first experience in float therapy it won't be my last as I feel enlightenment is close at hand. read more

Fantastic experience! I've always wanted to try an isolation tank after watching "Altered States" 1,000 times. Unfortunately I didn't slaughter a goat or turn into a primate. Instead I had an incredibly relaxing experience. Floating in the water is like floating on a cloud. There's no way your body can sink. I can be claustrophobic but did not experience it in the chamber. At first my mind was focusing on how many minutes might have passed, but eventually I succumbed to the experience and fell asleep. When your 90 minutes is up, they play music over a loud speaker in the room. I didn't hear it. The attendant had to knock on the door to wake me up. After a quick shower washing off the Epsom salts, I felt relaxed, happy and slightly dehydrated. I must remember to bring a brush or comb next time because my hair looked like a fright wig after shampooing it to get the salts out. I would absolutely do this again and recommend it to anyone searching for a moment of peace, quiet and solitude from their daily lives. I had been there twice with two totally different experience. The first time I went in without knowing what the float therapy is. My husband wants to try the float therapy. I purchased it as a gift for him when I saw this place offered a groupon. Due to the unexpected event, we had to change our appointment three or four times. The owner was very nice to let us to change it as long as we gave days ahead of notices. They also texted us the day before to remind our appointment and they responded promptly via the text to our questions. Our appointment is 3:30 pm on Sat and we arrived about 30 minutes before. The decor is simple and modern. They provided two pages article to tell you what is the float therapy. They offered us to try PandoraStar for free few minutes before we started our session. We were on the massage bed behind the waiting area ( with the dividers for privacy) and close our eyes. A light with different pattern shines through our closed eyes. It helps to relax a bit. They asked us which pattern we like and tried to explain different effects from the different light pattern after our first experience with PandoraStar. Then they gave us a tour to the Green Isolation Tank room. In the room, there is an isolation tank, bench, shelf with ear plugs and space for your clothing and a shower area. There is also an o'clcok on the wall so you track your time if you want. In order to keep the track of time in the dark room, they will play the music 90 minute sharp to wake you up. Basically, you take a shower before you go into the isolation tank area. Make sure that you dry your face and put the ear plugs in after the shower and before going into the tank. Drying your face will prevent the uncomfortable feeling from salt water once you got into the tank. One tip is that clean your ear wax before going into the tank. Or you may have water trap in your ears for days. Once I went into the tank, I only stayed awaken for less than 10 to 15 minutes and then I slept most of time and only woke up few minutes before the music started. I slept a little longer for the second time. My first experience is very different from my second one. Though I slept in the tank over an hour at both sessions and use the same tank. The after fact effect was totally different. My first experience was wonderful. I can totally feel that my brain wave changed after the session and I am more in touch with my own feeling -- I can sense which part of my body was stress free and which part is not. I slept very well for two days. My second experience was nothing like the first time. I didn't even sleep well on the day that I did my second session. Here is a sum up about the float therapy from the google. "An isolation tank is a lightless, a soundproof walk-in closet sized room filled with 10-11 inches of water that has been saturated with 800-1000 lbs dissolved Epsom salt. The water is heated at skin temperature(93.5 degrees). They were first used by John C. Lilly in 1954 to test the effects of sensory deprivation. Such tanks are now also used for meditation and relaxation and in alternative medicine". I notice that water was very low when I first went into the tank. But the second time, the water was double of the height from the first one. The only reason I can think of why they put in more water the second time is because they put less salt -- probably a lot less. By putting more water in there, you can still flow but the benefit probably is a lot less. For someone who is doing this for anxiety, it probably will not change very much. But for me, I notice that my body is more relaxing with more Epsom salt. It makes a huge different for me. read more

I found out about this place because I was trying to book at the Float Lab Technologies in Venice which is the place referenced by Joe Rogan a lot in his podcasts. The guy on the phone said they had built the float tanks at this location and it's essentially top of the line. The Float Lab in Venice is booked out like crazy and I needed a time to go with my wife, plus I got the opening special, so it was a no brainer since it was closer as well. I'm new to it, but I'd say the end experience was that I was the sleepiest and most relaxed I have ever been, even more than an hour long body massage. My muscles still feel a little weak and relaxed the day after. There's a lot of material on potential experiences through the Internet like Vice and Joe Rogan. Some things: - You go in naked - There's a private room with shower - Bring a water bottle in case you get real thirsty inside - Make sure you don't itch your face while in the water in case you get some of the water in your eyes. It stings. - Make sure you don't have any open sores that will sting to salt water I wish I could say I had an out of body experience with hallucinations, but that wasn't the case. 80 minutes flew by fast, and I was brought out by being really thirsty. Pandora light therapy- I've never taken hallucinogenic drugs, but if I were to, I think it would be like this. You lay down, close your eyes, and this star figure above you shines a variety of light patterns. You wear earphones with funky meditative sounds You see a pattern and evolving shape show, like a kaleidoscope. It's odd, but cool. I tried to meditate- stop my thoughts. Was I floating? Was I bored? Was I very calm or slightly uncomfortable? Was I doing it correctly? I think I'm sexually aroused. Yep, that all happened. Nonetheless, the environment was welcoming and I'm happy I tried it. Trying to buy my husband a gift is nearly impossible because he doesn't want much and typically will get whatever he fancies for himself. That in mind, I knew he had been wanting to experience a Sensory Deprivation Tank session. I googled my tail off about what to expect and then began to read reviews on locations. Newport Float has a ton of great reviews, and many had such helpful reviews, including to look on Groupon for deals. I called first and spoke to a Ron about scheduling in advance so we could go together and he told me about a new service called Pandora Star Light Therapy that they were offering as a free upgrade for first timers. It took a few tries between my husbands work schedule and a baby sitter, but we finally made it! Upon walking in, we were immediately greeted by a friendly woman who checked us in and had us sign some paperwork. (NOTE: Pandora Star is probably not suited to you if you've been known to have seizures or are epileptic.) We first did the Pandora Star and it was amazing for me and so so for my husband. I saw so many colors of blue but also some images, mostly tree leaves and water...at least that's what it felt like I was seeing. Next we did the tank. My husband said that he finally figured out how to relax and then it was over. He said his neck was tense for a long time while getting acquainted with the float. Unfortunately for me, my float wasn't as enjoyable but that's not their fault. I have intermittent tinnitus and my goodness, nothing like sensory deprivation to kick it on and amplify it. It was like screaming in my ears. I recently spoke with the owner about some ideas how to avoid this and he was helpful. I think the biggest thing they could do is have an option of feeding sound individually into the booth instead of having two rooms synced. I would love to try a float again but at full price, the risk of my tinnitus would be a bummer. He suggested some waterproof earbuds but that's $$$ in an investment I am not ready to commit. My husband would definitely do it again. Who knows, maybe he will float and I will do Pandora. :-) They sell refreshments like Gingerade and Kombucha with some snacks if you need to refuel after your sessions. That was nice. I can't even begin to describe how amazing sensory deprivation tanks are. It took me a couple of session to get into a fully meditative state, but I got there and it was amazing. You really relax and when you come out you feel as if you are on another dimension. It feels like being high, but without the drugs. Outside of the spiritual/mental side, the pain I suffer in my muscles from an autoimmune disease completely goes away. I don't really need to take my meds as often because of the float sessions. These sessions can't even compare to getting a massage, in fact I cancelled my membership to massage envy after coming to this place. This is a much cheaper and more holistic approach to getting a massage. read more

If you haven't done any of these, it's a must. It's so relaxing. We had a great experience. I'm coming back this coming week with my friend and the week later along. They have very extensive filtration system, it's so clean in here. I love using their app. You can book your session super easy. It's best to sign up on their apps then online. I had a duplicate file because I did it online and they added me when I came in. My file for some reason didn't come up. Ron had to merge them afterwards. I had been wanting to try flotation tanks for a long time and after much research (and a lucky groupon find) I settled on NFT. Ron really helped me out while trying to find an appointment as I couldn't get the appointment scheduler online to work. He put up with multiple e-mails and answered every question promptly. Upon arrival the guy at the front desk (David maybe?!?!) was really nice, he gave a quick tour and in I went. Must admit, I did freak out the first 2 minutes, but I quickly relaxed and the 90 minutes flew by. I wish it would have been longer!!!! Great smelling shampoo and soap provided for washing up afterwards. Showers and tanks are privately contained together so you don't have to travel to different rooms before or after. Both Ron and his assistant said that lots of people feel that way and explained how I had control over my environment and what they could do help increase my comfort level. When I arrived, Ron toured me through his extremely clean and comfortable facility, explained how the water is sanitized after each use (truly awesome!), offered to raise/lower the water and tank air temperatures, answered my many questions, offered great advice that increased my comfort level, and made me feel "genuinely cared for and at home." Just expected a bit more of a spa feel. What ruined it for us was the 'girl' at the desk. She didn't want to be there and she didn't hide it.
