If I could give ZERO stars, I would. To start, I should've turned around and left when I saw a cone at the door, mats, and water dripping from who-knows-where. The greeter wt the counter was NOT pleasant. No smile, no hello, just a blank stare into the restaurant like she was on the spectrum. Ugghh! My friend and I were escorted to our table in silence. Strike 2! Strike 3 was the snaggle-toothed old server with the nasty long fingernails. He was rude AF, impatient, and scurried around like he had ADHD. It wasn't our fault that occupancy seemed to be over the fire limit, tables were squished too closely together and there was little walking space. We asked the server about several menu items. He didn't eat seafood, he didn't like this, he had no recommendations for that...why TF does he work there?! I politely asked about gumbo and red beans/rice and I informed him I don't eat pork. He said the restaurant was pork heaven and told me good luck b/c the restaurant was heavy on the pork. He proceeded to RUSH us, walked off and helped someone else without saying g a word, then circled back and scribbled an order on a piece of tissue that I did NOT want. Because of his lack of customer service skills, a young lady brought out food that I didn't order. The server swooped by and told me it was my fault. F*^k you! Since the menu was mostly pork-based and fatty fried seafood items, I ordered shrimp creole and hush puppies to be safe. Or so I thought. Hush puppies were not the best. They were sweet cornbread mix WITH kernels of corn fried into a ball. Yuck!! Shrimp creole looked like dirty water and tasted the same. It had some cheap tiny frozen shrimp that I could've bought at the dollar store on clearance. Awful doesn't do that item justice. I asked my friend to taste both to make sure I wasn't delusional. She agreed both were disgusting. The toothless server came back with an attitude when I politely told him I could take no more than one bite and requested it off of the bill. He brought a to-go container instead. HILARIOUS!! Needless to say, my friend said her food was just okay, packed leftovers and threw them away the following day, On a positive (LOL), music was good. But it was so loud we couldn't hear ourselves at the table. Clearly, neither could Mr. Snaggletooth who kept yelling in our faces. This restaurant needs some new management, team meetings or folks need to be fired. Only one young lady smiled the entire time we watched staff going back and forth to the kitchen. It is not a welcoming environment! Being a visitor from California and exited to support a black business, I was appalled and embarrassed. I wouldn't return if someone paid me and the old server and host would've been fired immediately!
Neyow's has a friendly, no-frills, homestyle diner feel. The staff was welcoming, and I liked the glassed-in area by the bar where you can watch them fire up the oysters. Even though seafood is absolutely not my ministry, it was still a cool touch. They also have happy hour Monday through Thursday from 3-7 PM, with some solid food and drink options. We tried a little bit of everything: Jazzy Wings - 3.5/5 Battered wings with good flavor. Nothing especially memorable, but they were not bad at all. Cup of Filé Gumbo - 4/5 Really good flavor with a little kick, but nothing overwhelming. It did smell a little too seafood-forward for me, but that is more of a personal problem because I do not like seafood. Everyone else may love that part. Red Beans and Rice with Hot Sausage - 2/5 The hot sausage itself was flavorful, but the beans and rice were extremely bland. I expected way more seasoning and depth from a New Orleans staple. For the sides: Green Beans - 0/5 Straight out of the can - I could not do it. Carrot Soufflé - 4/5 Surprisingly good! It tastes like sweet potato pie without the crust. The texture was a little mushy, but the flavor carried it. Cornbread Dressing - 3.5/5 Good flavor, but the texture was very wet and mushy. I prefer mine with a little more structure. Hush Puppies - 3/5 They were fine. Hush puppies are pretty straightforward, and these did the job, but they were slightly overcooked. Sweet Potatoes - 4/5 Sweet, flavorful, and tasty. No complaints here. Now, the cocktails: French 75 - 5/5 No notes. Order it. Margarita - 2/5 Definitely not the best margarita I have had, although I have had worse. I would not order this particular drink here again. Overall, the service and atmosphere were great, but the food was hit or miss. Some dishes had good flavor, while others desperately needed seasoning or a texture adjustment.
I visited Neyow's Creole Café in Louisiana on a Friday night and had a great overall experience. Be aware that there are about five steps at the entrance leading up to the dining room, so that may be a consideration for anyone with mobility concerns. The restaurant had a lively, fun atmosphere with a great mix of '90s and 2000s R&B playing, which really added to the experience. It was crowded when we arrived, and we were told the wait would be about 20 minutes, but we were pleasantly surprised to be seated in only about 5 minutes. I ordered the red beans and rice with fried chicken and cornbread. The cornbread may have been the best I've ever had! It was moist, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. I really enjoyed the red beans and rice as well, though I thought they could have used just a little more seasoning. The portion was very generous, and I couldn't finish my meal. Our server, Jonathan, was outstanding. He was patient, answered all of our questions, and made excellent recommendations that helped us decide what to order. The women's restroom has two stalls but wasn't the cleanest during my visit. It's the main reason for the 4 stars. Overall, the delicious food, generous portions, friendly service, and energetic atmosphere make Neyow's Creole Café a definite winner. I'd happily return.

Unfortunately, the food wasn't particularly impressive. The chicken was a bit bland and could have used more seasoning. The pasta was decent, but pretty average overall, and I was disappointed that it didn't come with garlic bread. The oysters were good, but they felt overpriced for what they were. I think I could have found similar quality elsewhere at a better value. While the ambiance and service were enjoyable, the food didn't quite justify the price for me.
When it comes to the NOLA dining scene, Neyow's feels about as local as it gets. Situated in the Mid-City neighborhood, it can get packed with locals during at night of the week. Their food is the greatest highlight of all, rich in flavor and rooted in authentic Creole tradition. The weekend scene is a bit of madness, as there are hordes of people waiting inside and out just to score a seat. They don't take reservations, so it really is first come, first serve. One added pro-tip: They use Yelp waitlist, which is a huge leg up. Mark your place in line via the Yelp app, and monitor the progress through text or their listing. Plus, this gives one time to find street parking, which is very limited. Once inside, there is a lot going on. Heaps of big crowds, loud R&B music, a bustling staff going in every direction, and the delightful smell of delicious food just around the corner. My wait time was close to 40 minutes on a Friday night, so the anticipation was sky-high. My table and I started things off with a pineapple coconut margarita ($13) along with their signature Neyow's fruit punch ($7). The cocktail was potent, but the fruit punch was a sugar bomb, albeit, an addicting one. Ordered a dozen chargrilled oysters ($30), which were solid and really tasty while being drowned in butter and garlic. The fried chicken tenders were crunchy, juicy, and surprisingly very tasty. I'm incredibly impressed with their Neyow's Extravaganza Dinner for 2. For $70, it is a tremendous value for the amount of food that is served. They include: :: 2 cups of gumbo :: 2 house salads :: A platter of their fried fish, shrimp, oysters, stuffed crab, and stuffed shrimp. :: Steak :: 2 sides :: 2 desserts The portions were downright excellent. The house salads were the least memorable item, but they were fresh and the tangy dressing was nice. A huge thumbs up to their gumbo, which has a deep, smokey flavor. The standouts from the fried platter was definitely the stuffed crab and shrimp, but the fried oysters were also something I wanted more of. The steak was cooked perfectly and went well with the green bean casserole. The cornbread dressing deserves its own paragraph. It was intensely addicting and would be a hit at any potluck, Thanksgiving, or meal in general. It was indulgent with every bite and incredibly rich. The next time, I would order just two of those but I'd probably also consider their mac and cheese and carrot soufflé. Just thinking about it right now is making me salivate. Dessert was their homemade bread pudding, which was delightful and filing. Their beignet sticks was a nice take on an old classic, and dashed a healthy amount of powdered sugar and cinnamon sugar. Next time around, I'm in for their praline pound, pecan cobbler, and brownie a la mode. For those who enjoy themes, peep their weekly specials: Monday: red beans, jambalaya Tuesday: white beans, bbq grilled chicken breast, po boys Wednesday: mustard greens, 8oz ribeye, smothered pork chops Thursday: cabbage, smothered chicken, breaded pork chops Friday: grilled fish and stuffed crab, bbq shrimp, smothered okra Saturday: stuffed bell pepper, stuffed shrimp, ribs Sunday: cornish hen, stuffed pork chop, salmon Lastly, our server was incredibly sweet. It had been a while since we had been here. Had some guests in town that wanted NOLA soul food so we chose this spot. Of course there was a wait bc its a popular spot so we didn't trip in that. Once seated, I think they forgot about us bc it took about 20 minutes for anyone to even come take our drink orders On e we got service, our orders were taken, the server make up for the wait bc his personality proceeded him. My chargrilled oysters were on point with the taste . I had one big one, the others were med & small but I can't deny they were tasty. We received our order, the smothered okra. It's not my mom's, but it was decent. It was like...oh my this is so good, but it was okay when it comes to flavor. I added hot sauce and pepper our cornbread was forgotten, we had to ask twice, so by the time it came we were finished our food, but that cornbread was definitely BOMB!!! The slices were big and it was so moist and delicious. The restroom was clean, which was a plus given there was a huge crowd in the restaurant. Would I go back? Sure.
Enjoyed our experience here! Service was good as was the food! We got the smothered okra! Man it was so good! While it was hot in the main seating area, we were sat in a room off to the side where it was much cooler!! Definitely appreciated that! Only downside to our time here was the constant slamming of the door in the room we were seated in. The employees continuously went in and out of the door. I counted 13 times. Being that it slams really loud, it quickly became a nuisance. Other than that, our visit was good! Would return!

Amazing but chicken was over cooked and dry everything else was amazing . The greens were a meal ! The Mac and cheese didn't use elbow noodles ! The green beans had no seasoning ! The Place was packed and price was good !

My first creole restaurant in Louisiana! Would recommend getting the shrimp creole and chargrilled oysters (not pictured). Very friendly service. Everything is very flavorful and heavily spiced/salted. For the sides, I'd recommend the sweet potato fries and macaroni! Automatic 18% gratuity added since we came in a large party, something to keep in mind!
The food was really good! The grill oysters are worth a try all on their own. The service was a bit unprofessional and not approachable. The music and people are loud here.
This place was recommended to us by every Uber driver we had used during the stay! And it lived up-to its reputation. On a Saturday night they had a long wait time, but we got a table in 30mins all the while getting our drinks. We ordered the Dinner menu for 2 which came with fried oysters, grilled fish, grilled shrimp, sweet potatoes, crabcake, stuffed shrimp (it came with steak too, but we forgot it). It also came with 2 desserts , so we chose the Cheesecake and Bread Pudding. It came with the gumbos too. Lovely meal that let us try all the specialities of NOLA. Crabcake was definitely the best among the places we have tried. Very friendly hosts as well.

I found Neyow's on Yelp and decided to stop by for some Cajun cuisine. I did an order to-go. The host directed me to the bar to put in my order. I ordered Fried Chicken with the Red Beans and Rice plus the Lemonade. The service was good. It took less than 10 minutes to get the order. Once I got back to my hotel, I was able to sit down and enjoy the meal. The food was really good. I wish I could have gotten more Chicken (another thigh). I would come back and dine in next time. It was a great scene inside. It looked like a jazz bar with all the artwork. Grade: B+ read more

I'm not a big fan of this mess, rice and beans. I had a lot more seasoning. The service was pretty poor and the ambience is very loud with music playing. It's hard to hear conversations at your own table. The gumbo was just OK. I'm not sure if I will be back to this restaurant. read more

There's a lot of room for improvement compared to how good this restaurant used to be. First, a few of charbroil oysters were burnt and vegetables were overcooked and bland. Second, the jambalaya was soggy. Finally, I was disappointed with the music selection, as the songs included a lot of derogatory language. I found it to be disrespectful, especially to the senior citizens and young children. read more
My wife and I was visiting New Orleans for jazz fest and found neyows. The music was good and loud enough to talk and enjoy. The service by our waitress was down to earth and friendly she recommended the bow wow in it about 10 different shots strong and delicious. The chicken was Amazing looking forward to eating here again. If you're in the big easy try this place you won't regret. read more

Damn, but that was good food! No frills, just amazing food. We got seated in a back booth and went to work on the menu. We started with a mango margarita tower and chargrilled oysters. While we waited for that, we decided upon our lunch. Everything looked fantastic! We decided on shrimp creole, redfish and fried shrimp with hushpuppies and green beans, and stuffed shrimp and bbq shrimp with mac and cheese and dressing. Ok, so here's the lowdown: Mango margs - strong and strangely good with all the seafood Chargrilled oysters - simply amazing. Get these! Bbq shrimp - tasty sauce and big shrimp. A win! Hushpuppies - omg good! Redfish - delish Fried shrimp - yum! 10's 10's 10's across the board. My white ass was in heaven. First. The only white in the building. Good start! After few hit or miss experiences in New Orleans, this was such a welcomed change. We ordered a lot of things and everything melted in our mouth. The flavor, the spices, the amount and the prices were perfect. Our server was super handsome and super sweet and helped us with suggestions. Try everything on the menu or if you can't choose try one of their daily specials. This was one of the restaurants at the top of my list while visiting New Orleans for a weekend dedicated to eating our way through the city, and it was the very first stop of the trip! We dined on a Friday around noon. The restaurant sits on a corner, and like many places in New Orleans, parking can be a bit tight. Luckily, since we arrived early, we scored a spot right in front of the restaurant. When you walk in, you head upstairs to the hostess stand. The greeting wasn't particularly warm, but we were asked how many were in our party and were seated right away. The restaurant has a lot of character, with walls covered in unique jazz-themed artwork and décor that really adds to the New Orleans atmosphere. It was just the two of us, and after about 5-6 minutes our waiter came by for our drink order. He let us know they only had sweet tea and lemonade available at the time, and unfortunately the frozen drink machine was down, so no frozen cocktails were being served. To start, we ordered the BBQ crab claws and a dozen chargrilled oysters. The crab claws arrived quickly. There weren't very many, and they were a bit smaller than I've had elsewhere, but they were swimming in an absolutely delicious BBQ butter sauce. It came with two small pieces of bread, which definitely wasn't enough for all that sauce, so we ordered a basket of garlic bread. Unfortunately, it took quite a while to arrive, and by then the sauce had cooled down. We ended up eating the garlic bread with the oysters instead. Speaking of the oysters... WOW. They came out sizzling, covered in garlic, butter, and Parmesan cheese, and they were phenomenal. Easily one of the best chargrilled oysters I've ever had. If I had to rate them, they'd be a 10,000/10. I devoured every last one! For my entrée, I ordered the seafood platter with fried fish, shrimp, oysters, and a crab cake, served with dressing and carrot soufflé. Everything tasted fresh and was cooked perfectly. The sides honestly surprised me. The carrot soufflé was so good it almost reminded me of sweet potato casserole, and the dressing had a slightly sweet flavor that kept me going back for another bite. One thing that surprised me was that nothing we ordered was particularly spicy. Being in New Orleans, I expected bold heat in a lot of the dishes, but everything leaned more toward rich, buttery, and flavorful than spicy. Service was decent overall. There was one point where we had to get up and look for our waiter because we needed condiments, but aside from that, everything went smoothly. Overall, I'm so glad I finally got to check this restaurant off my list. The chargrilled oysters alone are worth the visit, and I'd absolutely return the next time I'm in New Orleans. read more
Had dinner with my dad here and the staff was very friendly and attentive. My dad ordered and enjoyed the pork chops plate. You get a great portion size. I ordered the grilled red fish with carrot soufflé, veggies, and cornbread dressing. The grilled red fish was delicious and so was the carrot soufflé. I'm new to carrot soufflé and have become a fan. I did have to add seasoning to the vegetables, there was none. I was tempted to try the cornbread dressing and was not disappointed. While I am used to a more flavorful cornbread dressing being made in my family, their milder version was also extremely good. This place was recommended to us by somebody local, so we had to try. The menu looked good, with plenty of dishes that looked great to choose from. The place was packed, so definitely a popular spot. But are these folks locals or out of towners like us? The food is plenty full, but not all dishes were that great. The chicken seemed to be fried in old oil. Sometimes, restaurants like this ride on their past successes, but eventually decline a bit. I don't know for sure though. To me it looks like they could use at least a little bit of some home improvement. Needless to say the place is packed, and the menu looked fine, definitely worth to try it for yourself. Fabulous lunch at neyow's! I went on Sunday early afternoon and had no problem getting a seat. I hit the charbroiled oysters which were phenomenal. I also got a Bow Wow (fruit punch) to drink. Whewww it is strong so take your time and drink it slow. Service was great and friendly. Can't wait to go back! I need to try their Sunday brunch next time as well. read more

I have no idea why the locals recommend this place to anyone. It's all around not a good place the staff is unkind and some downright rude. The host couldn't care less about greeting you, I had to flag her down to get seated and she set us next to a tv that a guy was on a ladder fixing. I should have left then but oh no here comes the bald, sweaty, rude waiter who shouldn't be serving food. He couldn't recommend anything and he takes orders laying on the table butt in the air. Mind you he's sweaty and stank. The food came out in a reasonable time but it wasn't good. I had a seafood platter and the catfish seemed like fake fish, the fried oysters were questionable, the sweet potatoes were not sweet and the macaroni had to have come from a dollar store box they just mixed and threw on the plate. My daughter's red beans had something questionable in it, it looked like a after birth sac piece of something that's when I couldn't take anymore. I had to flag down the rude waiter to get check and get out of the dirty run down nasty place as fast as we could. Of course the waiter took the money, no thank you, how was your food nothing, Just rolled his drunk eyes and went away. The place is packed because the locals recommend it they must be getting a fee or something because there's no way they actually think this is the place to be. I wonder if the health department even comes through there to check anything at all because they should. I wouldn't go back there if the food was free and I hope I can save someone else from spending their hard earned money like I did. Yuck. read more

I understand the 40 minute wait at 2:45 and was seated at 3:45pm on a Friday, but had to wait 55 minutes for to pasta dishes and stewed okra. I had to walk up to the hostess stand to ask for a manger by that time the food arrived it wasn't super hot. The food did taste good but it would have tasted better if it wasn't just room temp. We ate the food but asked for to go containers within 18 minutes of the food arriving. This was my second time at this establishment but I can't say I'll be back. read more
Came for lunch with my coworkers. Everyone must be present in order to be seated. I had the Friday special which included the smothered okra with fish or chicken. It was a good portion for the price and had great flavor. My coworkers said their chicken was salty. Our waiter was great and the place was filling up as we left. We came across this place after leaving wrong iron around 9 pm on a Saturday and there was a 20-30 minute wait for a table but the host found us two seats at the bar right away, the char grilled oysters were our second favorite that we've had in the whole city, not too much cheese and the oysters melted in your mouth. We also got the seafood pasta. Fun music playing and not too loud even though it was Definitely a busy place for late night food on a Saturday. read more

Stopped in for dinner and had a great experience. Taylor took care of us and was on point all night. Attentive, good energy, never hovering but always right there when needed.I went with the shrimp creole and it did not disappoint. Big portion, seasoned right, plenty of shrimp, and that sauce had real depth. You're not leaving hungry. Atmosphere felt authentic. Lively but comfortable. And the playlist? Straight R&B heat. The kind of vibe that makes you want to sit a little longer and order one more drink. Good food, good service, good energy. That's a win. read more
It's been a few years since our last trip to Neyow's and I got home in time for us to get there before the Friday dinner rush. We were seated immediately and decided on a dozen chargrilled oysters to start. The oysters tasted amazing but were the tiniest chargrilled oysters I've ever had. The oysters were about the size of a quarter and smaller. For $30 it was pretty disappointing. For my entree I got the red beans and rice with white meat fried chicken. The red bean had a ton of shredded meat cooked into it but it needed more crystal hot sauce than I expected for how good it looked. The fried chicken however was perfect! Crunchy, tons of flavor and juicy. I don't know if they were having an off day, but it was definitely not the amazing experience we had a few years ago. read more

You can never go wrong here. The chargrilled oysters are some of the best in the city. Happy Hour daily except for Fridays but the prices are good either way. Great service. read more

Visited Neyow's on a Thursday afternoon, no wait! Since it was my first meal landing in NOLA, I had to order a poboy and it did not disappoint! I also ordered a French 75 and a salad. The shrimp on the poboy was perfectly seasoned I can eat a basket of them. My cousin ordered the char-grilled oysters which smelled and tasted amazing. They char it in an area of the restaurant where you can see the steam/smoke rising so you know it's going to be good. I visited again on a Saturday for lunch with a 15 minute wait. I HAD to order their signature punch which comes in a pretty big to-go cup. I saw everyone in the restaurant with one so I knew it was going to be good. Neyow's is just one of those spots in NOLA you HAVE to try! Also, our waitress was an absolute sweetheart. We got lucky with the wait time but be mindful, the restaurant does get super busy. There's also a waitlist on Yelp which is great. Will recommend this spot to everyone! read more

I am visiting New Orleans on Mothers Day and won't have much time to wait. I see the comments have said that they don't take reservations. How do I join the waitlist?
You can only join the waitlist once you get there. It move fast, but there will be a wait depending on the date and time you go.
Is it ADA accessible? Something tells me "NO".
There's a ramp on the side of the building.
Do you need reservations? I've tried to call it didn't ring ? So it's safe to drive there ? (Meaning safe without reservations) not due to the area…
No reservations needed. We were quoted 20 minute wait then seated in 5 minutes. Great place

I don't think they take reservations, but they do use the waitlist function through Yelp - I would recommend using that. We didn't realize they used waitlist, and had a good hour or so wait when we arrived.
Is this a good place to celebrate a birthday with a large party?
Yes, we did a small party here for Christmas. Call ahead and give them a heads up.
