For some reason, they are not calling their banh mi by its rightful name, they are under the alias of "Asian sandwich". It's the same. Delicious meat and veggie filled sandwiches on a fresh toasty french baguette. Pefect for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I brought my family here and they confirmed that this is authentic Vietnamese Banh Mi. We tried the shrimp (my original favorite), the barbecue pork, and the combination Banh Mi. One of the owner ladies have been working with professional chefs and has improved the bread. I thought it was perfect before, but now there's a crisp texture, and it tastes great the day after 2. Just make sure to freeze it if you don't eat it right away, then toast it when you're ready. Get the word out. The popular vietnamese banh mi shop, BMT NG, that used to be on Hwy 183 how now relocated here since the owners bought out the thai restaurant. I haven't been back to try the thai food under the new ownership, but I did go back for the banh mi and I feel like they're even better than before! I actually had to make a large order (a dozen) of a variety of sandwiches and they prepped it well. They put all the veg on the side for me and cut the sandwiches in half. It was delicious!! Will be back for more banh mi and I'll give their version of the thai food a 2nd chance! read more

Great find, thanks to the yelp reviews. Came here with the family. Got a range of currys to pad woon sen. Currys are very flavorful. We got the green and red. Pad woon sen is just like any other Thai place and it was good. The owner made it a nice dining experience. She came and talked to my parents made sure everything tasted good. Came in to order a tofu banh mi to go and some sesame hollow bread. I used to frequent their stand often when they were still in the Hong Kong Supermarket. I used to go 1-2x a week and then when they left, I was sad. I have since discovered that they moved further North up near Parmer Lane. The sandwich was as delicious as I remember and my sesame hollow bread was a perfect compliment. Order was ready in about 10 minutes so they were quite speedy too! Our family visited Chang Thai for the first time tonight. We love Titaya and had high hopes for this food since it's closer to home. We were not disappointed! The yellow curry with tofu (spice level 3) was perfect, the Tom Yum soup was incredible and the Mango Sweet Rice was delicious. We were also treated with a sample Banh Mi sandwich that was so tasty and tapioca cookies. (We can't wait to come back for those sandwiches!) The best part though? The service. NG Cafe is quickly becoming my favorite, go-to restaurant in Austin. I don't know her first name, but the owner who I will call Mama NG makes the most amazing lemon cookies I've ever had. They are certainly worth trying! They make their baguettes fresh and you can totally tell. Their bread rivals some of the best bread I've had in France. The Shrimp Bahn Mi is my hands down favorite. The shrimp is never overcooked and they use good sized shrimps in their sandwiches. We also love the Drunken Noodles and last but not least the hot soup bar. The soup bar is complimentary if you purchase an entree! This is one of those places that they will remember you if you go in a few times. They are very kind. This is far busier at lunch than in the evening. If you want to try them out when it's not busy, dinner is the way to go. I'm gutted that I have to write this review. Let me get this straight, their food is phenomenal tasting. Their customer service, order taking and Vietnamese generation judging.... are not so much. I bought the buy 5 get 1 free banh mi special and he forgot to honor the free banh mi. When he called out his wife to fix the situation, not only was she stingey with the complimentary soup but she also suggested me just getting another banh mi instead because they essentially didn't want to deal with giving my money back. Mind you, there was no one else in the restaurant. To top it off, I asked for some rice paper for my banh xeo and they told me in a judamentally tone "you don't eat banh xeo with that. It's probably a different dish you're thinking of..." I tried first and last time. Chicken satay was just bad as sushi in a strip Chinese buffet, peanut sauce was BLAND, how can you mess up with this one? Their drunken noodles is nothing but bell peppers and onions. Noodles were good but sauce and veggie just not right. I am a big fan of Thai food, know many places and would definitely not recommend this one. Purple eggplants was ok, better then first one, basil saved entire dish. Still same ingredients: your favorite onions and bell peppers in a disproportional amount. Oh and super STICKY FLOOR, I can tell it has not been mopped for that business day. Tried this spot for the first time today. The favor and seasoning was good. No problems there. Tried the beef and rice dish. For what I got, I think $15 is a bit much for the portion size. It came with a scoop of rice and sautéed beef with veggies. It taste great, but I didn't feel it was worth the $15 price tag. Also got the Thai tea... first time.. it was good. Absolutely DEPLORABLE customer service and racial profiling. They don't ever have to worry about be returning. I had a small break in my work schedule and decided to treat myself to some Thai food for lunch. I ordered online for pick up. I arrived at their restaurant and there was NO ONE around. I walked up to the cash register and waited a little while hoping someone would come out. A guy in the back saw me as he came to the front to get some water, but he never even acknowledged me. I saw To Go orders sitting on a table out in the dining area and assumed I should just pick up my order and go. I checked for my name on the receipt attached to the bag, got my food and returned to my car to head home. As I am getting in my car, I am accosted by this women who yells at me and tells me I should not be taking my food and to give her back my Thai Iced Tea because she needs to put ice in it. I told her no one was around when I walked in. She said (with an attitude) that she was in the bathroom. She takes my cup and returns inside. When she comes back, she starts interrogating me about my order and if I am just picking up for someone (like I am trying to steal this mediocre food or something). I am aghast at the lack of customer service displayed by the workers. I will advise my friends (especially my Black friends), associates and coworkers not to patronize this place and will be contacting the BBB as well. Oh, how I love a good banh mi! Chewy crisp baguette, pork and pâté and a generous amount of fresh veggies...yes, please. My friend, Eileen loves them too and she was the one who suggested this place for lunch. We each had the pork banh mi and the salad bar and, having both checked in on Yelp! also got a free iced coffee. I also bought a baguette to go, and at only $3, it's a steal! Was craving Thai and came here due to the high Yelp reviews. My food came out extremely salty so I had to request extra steamed veggies to mix with my noodles, to mellow it down (still wasn't good). The food was a let down for my entire group. Sad to say, I don't think the chef is very good... Seemed more like a Vietnamese restaurant trying to do Thai. Didn't taste authentic at all. What a delight and a joy. Live in very southern Austin but was up there for a show ... what's in the area ... Ng Cafe. ... Vietnamese... let's give it a try. It was great. Start with the complimentary (homemade) soups. We both got khan ... her's was sweet'n'sour ... mine had coconut milk. They were both delicious. Elizabeth got the Asian calamari and it was wonderful. (The owner explained they call it "baguettes" because people in the suburbs don't know "bahn mi"). Pork belly bahn mi was one of the best I've had. AND they bake their own bread and any French bakery would be proud to serve what they bake. Light bread with a glazed crispy (but thin) crust ... wonderful. I'm not a desert person (Elizabeth is) but their Mango Cheesecake was so much better than I expected (house made, of course). I don't get up to northern Austin that often but, if you live up there ... you should treat yourself. We will be back!!! read more
