Bún Bò Huế / Spicy Beef Noodle Soup

Finally a solid Vietnamese spot in Pasadena! The interior was bright and spacious. As a bun Bo hue lover, I thought nha Trang's version was solid in flavor and quite satisfying. The pork hock was cut off the bone for ease of eating, but I was a bit sad the blood sausage and rice paddy herbs were missing. The price is what you would expect of an establishment in old town Pasadena given the high rent. Payment is made up front at the register. All in all, a solid place tog et your Vietnamese fix in the area!

My family and I have pretty much been to all locations for Nha Trang. My mom loves BBH so we literally would try every place that offers it. Mom wanted to give this location a try. She of course ordered the BBH. I got a pho. The pho here was better than the BBH. My mom didn't really enjoy it. She said the pig feet wasn't that fresh. The pork blood was also not good. She didn't finish. Had prob half left. My bowl of pho was great. I actually was able to share it. We were both full. The pho was not super authentic, but it was good enough. The flavor was there and the broth wasn't salty. Pho was cooked properly. I enjoyed the meats, but some said it was dry. I thought it was nicely cut and tender. I would come back for pho.

Met a friend here for lunch on her recommendation. Yelp reviews were good. Nice clean, sparse decor. We shared the Gỏi Cuốn Tôm (Shrimp summer rolls) to start. Two large rolls with scissors to cut in half. They were refreshing with a chunky peanut sauce for dipping. Flavor was OK. Was really looking forward to their signature dish, Bún Bò Huế, (Spicy beef noodle soup). It was OK, Nothing really wowed me. It is popular and the restaurant was full by the time we left. We did have to wave down the server to get the bill.

Parking: they have an immediate parking lot near them but just park at the schoolhouse garage for $1 for 90 mins. It's a 5 min walk. After having Nha Trang a couple times I've come to appreciate the quality of their pho and rice. Service was okay, it was probably the weakest part, but it was by no means bad. Restaurant is clean and well spaced. The pho tai is delicious. For broth it's one of the better ones I've had where I didn't have to add much to get it to where I want it. The quality of the beef is noticeable if you've been to other restaurants. For the price you are definitely getting a really good bowl of pho and it's my favorite spot in pasadena. I wish they had the thick noodles as an option but it's okay. The unlimited passion fruit was really great, but I drank it quickly and it took some time for the servers to notice and I've had to flag for refills a couple times. To be fair most people won't drink water or their drinks as fast as I do so it's not really a complaint.

Dined in with a group of 5 for lunch around 2:00 pm. It was empty, only a few tables. Parking: You can park at the School House Garage for $1.00 for the first 2 hours. It is only a 4 minute walk. Bathroom: Only one shared bathroom Food: we ordered the Bun Bo Hue and shrimp and taro eggrolls! Bun Bo Hue: 3.5/5, not as flavorful as the Nha Trang on Valley. My soup was supposed to be spicy but it wasn't as spicy even when I added the chili paste on the side. It is pricer but I like how there's unlimited noodles. Though, you cannot take the soup with noodles home if you order the extra noodles. They give you a side of vegetables, but when you ask for another order, they told us no. Shrimp and taro eggrolls: 4.5/5, crispy, crunchy, and great flavor with the taro! I loved the flavor especially when dipped in their sauce.

Quick service and tasty food! This is my first time having pho so I got the pho ga (chicken noodle with beef broth I think). It was really good and filling. They came to refill the waters multiple times and accommodated our small but loud group. Parking was pretty easy among the side streets and garages, all paid parking from what I saw. Would go again!

Such a comfortable and chill atmosphere with delicious pho and papaya salad to go with. The owners and staff were very friendly, too!

I dare to say that this is the best pho spot in Pasadena. First, the broth is rich and deep but not greasy like other pho spots. It definitely didn't give me that strong urge for water 30mins after finishing my food. Iykyk. They also don't skimp on the meat quality and quantity! Look at those portions :D Egg rolls seem to be made in house and were v tasty. The restaurant is clean/spacious and service was prompt/kind. I will definitely be back for more!!!

This is one of my favorite places in the world! I eat here minimum once a week. All of their vegan options are incredible, highly recommend the vegan pho, and they are so sweet. Service is amazing! I always find a good spot and the ambiance is comforting! Do not miss this spot! So reasonably priced, they make their own incredible chili oil and they have rau ma!

My wife and I had a positive first experience dining here at Nha Trang. We were walking around Old Town Pasadena and decided on some Vietnamese food. Upon arrival we were greeted immediately and staff allowed us to sit where we pleased. We felt welcome the entire time. The location has memorable artwork and designs along the walls. The menu is minimal and straight to the point. They offer pho, noodle salads, traditional Vietnamese appetizers and drinks. We decided on trying the Bun Bo Hue soup. It's priced at $16.99. We had never tried this dish before and we were throughly satisfied. Their BBH soup was flavorful and not too spicy. The broth was savory and aromatic. I would love to try more BBH soup moving forward after trying Nha Trang's version. Nha Trang is a solid choice for traditional Vietnamese cuisine if you find yourself in Old Town Pasadena.

Was in the mood for soup and was surprised to see Nha Trang location in Pasadena. I've had their food at another location before, so i was familiar with it. What i wasn't familiar with, were the prices. lol I mean, it's not that I didn't see the prices before hand, but for just two bowls of noodles , came out to 50$ after tip. To me, that is a bit inflated. Food tasted fine but I wouldn't be rush to come back or ever. If your pockets can justify the price, more power to you, but you can definitely drive a little further and get something much more affordable and tastier.

Authentic Vietnamese cuisine in the heart of Pasadena. I was craving pho, saw the reviews, and wanted to try it for myself--and was pleasantly delighted. Both the pho dac biet and bun bo hue (one of their speciality) taste authentic and delicious. The broth is light but flavorful, and the portion size is just right for me. I was actually able to finish the bowl and feel satisfied afterwards. The meat in the pho wasn't particularly memorable, but the soup made up for it. Parking was easy to find on the street on a Saturday for lunch. There's also a parking structure right next door as well. Service was pretty good, and the restaurant is very clean and comfortable. Definitely recommend giving this place a shot!

Got here on a Saturday around 5:30pm and got seated right away! First of all, love the interior - vibrant and colorful wall that celebrates the restaurant's cultural heritage. Got the Bun Bo Hue and added blood cakes - asked for non spicy! Very flavorful and I absolutely love the beef - so tender but retains the meaty flavor! The portion is very decent and I was craving for thick noodles and this one definitely delivers! Service was amazing! If you are in old town Pasadena, this is a great Vietnamese spot to try!

Walking in you get to see a nice display case of various pastries and a cute space with a few tables set up. They also have seating outside on Green if you prefer al fresco dining. It seems they have more substantial food than just pastries but I was just after the pastries. Staff were all kind and friendly, helped me pack up my goodies and I basically gobbled them up as I was walking some more. I got the canele and really enjoyed it. It had a nice, crisp exterior with a very soft, custardy center. Texturally, the canele was great. The paris-brest was also pretty good (doesn't rival ones I've had in Paris but thats likely a high bar). I found the praline cream super decadent and rich with hazelnut flavor but the choux itself wasn't amazing. However, I found out afterwards that this is a fully vegan establishment and was astounded that they got such wonderful textures and flavors without butter. With that knowledge, I was amazed at the renditions of these desserts and think its an amazing option for folks with a vegan diet to have excellent French pastries. I definitely recommend it as a vegan bakery and even as a great bakery for non-vegans.

I've been wanting to try Tendon Tempura Carlos Jr. for a while since their original location is in Torrance. I'm really glad they opened a Pasadena location because we're lucky to have one here in the 626 now. Parking was easy since there are spots right in front of the restaurant, but they are metered and cost $2 per hour. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the staff. Since the weather was nice, we decided to sit out on the patio, which was cool and comfortable. To start, we ordered the fried tempura mozzarella sticks ($5.99), onion kakiage ($2.99), and edamame corn kakiage ($5.99). Everything was delicious, but the mozzarella sticks were the clear favorite. They were fried perfectly with an amazing cheese pull and plenty of cheesy flavor. We decided to share all of our entrees family style. For my son, we ordered the plain hot udon, which was simple and perfect for him. For the rest of us, we ordered the Premium Tempura Bowl ($32.97) and added ikura ($4.98), the cold soba with dipping sauce and tempura ($19.99), and Carlos's Jewel Box ($31.99), which came with chopped salmon, toro, yellowtail, and popcorn shrimp over rice. We also added extra toro for $8. On top of that, we ordered a side of five slices of chu-toro for $15.49, which honestly felt like a great deal. The Premium Tempura Bowl was definitely the star of the meal. Every piece of tempura was light, crispy, and fried perfectly without feeling greasy. The fried tempura egg was absolutely chef's kiss, especially once the yolk mixed into the rice. The tempura dipping sauce was also excellent and brought everything together. The Carlos's Jewel Box was another standout. The fish tasted fresh, and the rice with their house sauce paired perfectly with everything. The added toro made it even better. The cold soba was well prepared, but it just wasn't our cup of tea. That's more of a personal preference than anything because the quality was still there. The restaurant has a modern look while still feeling like a cozy mom-and-pop shop. I really liked the decor and the welcoming atmosphere. Since we were the only table sitting outside, I can't really comment on the noise level inside, but the patio was peaceful and relaxing. The service was great. The staff brought out a booster seat for my son and even helped secure it to the patio chair. They also brought us all the condiments, including ginger and pickled vegetables, without us having to ask, which I appreciated. Overall, I would definitely come back. The tempura was some of the best I've had in the 626, and the rice bowls were just as impressive. If you're visiting for the first time, I highly recommend ordering one of the tempura bowls. You really can't go wrong. It's great to see a restaurant that started in Torrance expand to Pasadena because it's a welcome addition to the 626 dining scene.

The pricing of the items ranged from $8-$10 per item we ordered which is expensive but as a treat every once in a while and for the amount of time and effort that goes into making dim sum, it was worth it. We did wait about an hour, but honestly I didn't mind at all because it gave us a chance to relax, talk, and catch up as a family. Once we were seated, my parents were immediately impressed with the decor: elegant and cultural without feeling overly modern or cold. And can we talk about the tea kettles? They looked like literal pieces of art being poured at the table. Ordering was super easy with the QR code system, so my husband handled the whole spread: shumai dumplings, chicken feet, sesame balls, and more. Everything came out hot, fresh, and beautifully plated. The ENTIRE table agreed on one thing: the chili oil condiment deserves to be sold in bottles to take home. It was that good. Smoky, just the right amount of spicy, and addictive. Now for the real test: my in-laws. They've been to *many* dim sum places and are not easily impressed. They declared this place to have the best chicken feet that they've ever had: meat easily sucked off the bone, melt-in-your-mouth tender, and perfectly seasoned. High praise coming from dim sum veterans. Most importantly, my parents' first dim sum experience couldn't have been better. They loved everything from the ambiance to the food to the overall experience. My husband and I want to come back to explore more of the menu because there's clearly so much more to try
