We were looking for a place to get some food about 1100 after leaving the San Francisco area and YELP recommended this place. We waited for quite awhile for the food to arrive but our party enjoyed what we ordered. My wife is a pancake aficionado and she was not disappointed. I had breakfast (good) my son in law had a mushroom burger and we had no complaints. The staff was working hard to get orders out as quickly as possible and the did a good job considering there were only 2 people. It's a small homey place and deserves the 4 stars. read more

Nibs is one of my favorite lunch/brunch spots (and it doesn't hurt that it is only a few blocks away). My partner and I have tried many dishes and all are fantastic: beef teriyaki, cheeseburgers, soups of the day, omelettes, waffles, french toast, and sandwiches. My favorite is the "super" sandwich which is a turkey melt always cooked to perfection. It is tiny, so it fills up quickly and can feel a bit claustrophobic. This is not an issue, when going on off-times. The place is run by Hannah and Alex, who are nice as can be, although it is just Alex cooking and Hannah serving, so please be patient. It's worth it. Lastly, I would be remiss in not to mention that the portions are enormous, so come hungry. read more

This place is run by a an husband/wife team that are veterans in the diner business. Nibs used to be in El Cerrito, and then they opened up a place in San Pable (Giant Burger). I always get the same 2 things: Cheeseburger and fries, or over medium eggs with potatoes and toast. Simple diner food that is very well executed and is very consistent because of the experience of the people running the show. It was great to eat at nibs restaurant again. A true Korean-American style breakfast place. Last time I had a meal at this establishment was back when they had a shop in El Cerrito. The vegetables in the omelette are fresh and cooked to the point of perfection. The flavors are well balanced and you can taste and they use just the right amount of oil to maintain a soft texture. The hash browns are to die for. The outside is crunchy while on the inside, you enjoy the softness of the potatoes. And again, they don't overdo with the oil. read more

First time visiting this cute little restaurant. It's a tiny mom and pop spot with good food and great service. Though I was alone, I was greeted and seated immediately. The host (who's also the server and busboy) cleaned my table with a disinfectant wipe, which was comforting. Despite how busy they were, she waited on me right away. I ordered a breakfast plate. I appreciate the variety of breakfast meats they had to offer as not many places serve turkey sausage these days. The food was served promptly, which was nice and hot when it reached my table. Also, the prices were good for the amount of food you get. My only complaint is that the up-charge to sub the toast for one pancake was a bit higher than expected. Ordered take-out from Nibs back before the SIP order. I was driving to San Francisco and agreed to bring over some take-out. I had a whole brunch planned and had bubbly and orange juice and only needed some brunch food to compliment it. After doing a search from trusty Yelp, I decided to head over to Nibs, especially since the food looked so good and it was a short distance from the freeway. I ordered a French Toast with Blueberries, an Ultimate Creation, and a Two-by-Two. The order was ready by the time I arrived. The restaurant was empty that rainy morning and the owner greeted me upon arrival. Very friendly and quick service. The restaurant seemed family owned and was nicely furnished. After a quick 10 minutes, I arrived in San Francisco and got to open the delicious smelling goodies. The French Toast with Blueberries looked as amazing as the photos. It was by far the best item that was ordered. My boyfriend also enjoyed his pancakes, hash browns, and bacon. He said that it was generous size and mighty tasty. My omelet was good. It didn't travel as well as I would have liked, but all the flavors were hit and I enjoyed it enough to finish it. All-in-all, very solid restaurant that hits all the marks. I will definitely come back after SIP to dine-in and really enjoy all the deliciousness that this place has to offer. read more

I have been craving pancakes so I thought I would try Nibs in West Oakland, and I'm so glad I did! Nibs is a great local spot serving people who live and work in the neighborhood, a truly Oakland place. Nibs is a family restaurant with wife Hannah running the dining room and husband Alex in the kitchen. They are so warm and welcoming that if all you want is a cup of coffee and a bit of toast, it would be a great spot, but instead most diners ordered the hearty breakfasts. PROS: Absolutely 5 stars for the wonderful service and delicious food but minus one star for the other issues. The service was welcoming, friendly, on point, and you guys were really hustling to feed and take are of all your customers. We were greeted warmly, quickly served drinks and our order was taken as soon as we were ready. The waiter came back to check in on us and was quick to respond to any requests. The food that came out of the kitchen was hot, fresh, delicious and left our bellies feeling super happy! CONS: We have some hopefully constructive feedback for the owners and we mean these in the kindest way . These are not complaints, rather I am trying to be helpful to a business I really want to see succeed and I hope our points are taken that way. 1. Consider a children's menu. We had a 7 year old child with us and I ended up just splitting my meal as they could not finish an adult size portion. Parents don't want to pay and a lot of them cannot afford adult size price when kids don't eat as much. Unfortunately, though the food and service were both great, in the future we will choose a breakfast spot with a kids menu. We saw other patrons with kids while we were there, so there is definitely the need for it. Hint: Restaurants with kids menus actually increase profits! 2. Flies. Ugh. Please get a front screen door. It was a beautiful day and also stupid virus -- so you had the door open and that's great -- but that meant there were a bunch of flies floating around the middle of the room which definitely marred and otherwise great experience. 3. Those plastic tablecloths? Yeah, let's just say they do NOT spark joy. You'd be doing yourself a HUGE favor by getting rid of those nasty things (at least on the inside, I can understand why you'd have them at the outside tables.) It's just.. so ticky-tacky. They feel horrible on your skin and they look worse. You have the makings of a lovely breakfast spot with amazing food and instead it comes off as a no-name fake-Italian pizzeria. The food does not match the décor! The delicious food deserves way, way better! If tablecloths are an absolute necessity for a reason I don't know about - how about white ones? 4. When times are better please think about getting a changing table for the restroom. They can be purchased for around $200 on Amazon. Heck, I'd even pitch in a fiver if you had a baby changing station fundraising jar on the counter. read more

I enjoyed my breakfast at Nibs. I came in on a Monday morning around 10:00am and there were quite a few people there. The menu is basic to any other American diner breakfast/ lunch restaurant. The food is well cooked. I most enjoyed how my food was not greasy especially the hash browns unlike many other diners that usually serve greasy food. The small intimate atmosphere with typical diner style yet retro decor makes this restaurant a nice brunch date location or just a nice place to take friends and family. Then to top it off the restaurant is about a mile away from Oakland Lake Merritt, so you can take a short Uber ride or if you want to challenge yourself and walk to the lake, you can walk off the sort of heavy breakfast. Overall I am satisfied with the breakfast I had at Nibs. It hit the spot and I plan to come back. I can always enjoy good diner food. read more

My son and I were looking for a place to eat and was driving thru the neighborhood and found Nibs to be a place with high ratings on Google (thru Google Maps) and also Yelp. I was a bit worried of the parking situation of the neighborhood but looked past it and parked around the block... it looks sketchy but seriously it'll be okay. Went inside we were immediately seated and menus given. What impressed me when I sat down, the waitress used a disposable cleaning wipe to clean the table and made sure it was clean. Also noticed everything she handed us from the menu, our silverware and condiments were also clean. I could see the kitchen from where I was sitting and it was super clean and organized. So extra comfortable. We ordered and talk about big portions! My guacamole omelette was the best omelette I've ever had and with rice!! My son had waffles, eggs and sausage and he ate that up too! The waitress and cook were so nice to give us our food we enjoyed so much! I left a good tip and will be back again this week! Glad we found a great place with good people! read more

So, I went here for the second time because my daughter loves their French Toast and Strawberries. I ordered the steak bites with onion, mushrooms, peppers and tomatoes, over medium eggs, potatoes and pancakes. As soon as I was done with a portion of my food I felt sick. My food came out both ways. I called and asked to speak with a manager about what happened, she said no manager was there, I said okay I would like to speak with anyone who can assist me. She said I'm the owner.... SO WHY DIDN'T YOU SAY THAT WHEN I ASKED FOR THE MANAGER!!! I explained what happened. She said well there is nothing she can do to help me. Not unless i bring the food back. I said you want the food that I threw up as well. She said yes. See I'm not sure if she thought this was a game. So BET. You can have it all back including what I threw up. She told me to never come back again. Which I am fine with but you have lost service . Love having this place in my neighborhood! This is a no frills, classic diner type place with super friendly service. They are serving up typical breakfast and lunch counter fare with some Asian dishes mixed in. Prices are reasonable and food is freshly made. I had the chicken teriyaki breakfast and it was exactly what I expected, chunks of chicken coated in a sweet teriyaki sauce and a mound of rice with a side of eggs and toast. It was an enormous portion. My husband got corned beef hash and enjoyed it. They have outdoor tables too. Great spot! read more
