We arrived around noon and the ambiance of the space was wonderful. We were immediately greeted at the door and was sat at a very spacious table. My mother started to point out all the small figurines which turned out to be salt and pepper shakers! The restaurant had beautiful decorations. Our waitress was wonderful as well, she offered us various sauces and was super kind. One thing to point out, the scrambled eggs were AMAZING!! Super fluffy and not dry! When my friend and I walked in we were asked to take a seat outside and almost immediately the nice lady working came out and brought a little space heater out with her to keep under our table as it was cold outside. Sooo sweet of her as we were the only people there at the moment. She was so bubbly and sweet while making sure we had everything we needed. The food was delicious!!! This was my first time at Nibbs and I am extremely satisfied with the food and service. We were able to dine inside since there were no other customers at the time and they also provide outdoor dining. The person who took our order wore a mask and gloves at all times. Nibs is back! Rinky just told me and we read about it in Berkeleyside Nosh yesterday as well. We headed over here for lunch today. Though I was afraid there would be lines, there were none. A few tables were occupied and a couple of seats at the counter were taken. A nice flow of people came and went. This spot looks more like the original Nibs than like Alex's, which had very little space for groups larger than 2 or 3. We were delighted to see Hannah when we walked in. The crowd seemed to be a combination of those who have followed them for years and people new to them since they've opened here. I wasn't sure what I would order. It was between French toast, blueberry pancakes and a hamburger. I decided on a French toast plate, w/ two eggs any style and two pieces of bacon or sausage. Alex's French toast tastes like my mother's, and I just had blueberry pancakes. I asked for my eggs scrambled and had bacon because I remember their bacon as being wonderful, cooked just right. Alan ordered a Nature omelet w/ home fries and wheat toast. He had coffee to drink and I had Earl Gray tea. The food came out in timely fashion and was just as wonderful as I remembered. Maybe next time I'll have the hamburger, or something else. Whatever it is I'm sure it will be delicious. Hannah's usual farewell, "See you Monday!" (usually 'tomorrow') warmed our hearts. read more

Wonderful family run joint serving up huge portions of food to satisfy any palate! Every time I come Hannah always greets me with a smile and when I leave, a cheerful "See you tomorrow!" Aside from the friendly service, the food is GREAT. My favorite is the Ultimate Creation (eggs scrambled with bacon, avocado, and chopped chilis - what's there not to love?). The teriyaki plate is also excellent - you must try their homemade Italian dressing which will be the best salad dressing you will ever eat. Also, the buttermilk pancakes are like crack on a plate. For those who don't know, Nibs used to be a well-loved diner in El Cerrito before a fire closed the location a while back. Undeterred, Alex and Hannah opened Alex's Giant Burgers in Richmond and were open there for several years before abruptly shutting down last Autumn. I was worried they had decided to retire or worse, that health problems had precipitated the closing. Thankfully neither was true and they have re-opened in this Oakland location! The food is basically the same as before, which is a really good thing. I got the bacon cheeseburger with fries and it was fresh and delicious. Prices were a little higher than before, comparable to other (inferior) breakfast/burger joints. Hannah recognized me the moment I walked in and made sure to say hello and we caught up a little bit. It's clear the couple is happy and proud of the new place, as they should be because it is a BIG upgrade from the small, cramped Richmond restaurant! It is a half hour without traffic for me to drive to the new Oakland Nibs and it's one I will be making at least once a month when I get the urge for a really good burger. Alex cooks up excellent breakfast, juicy burgers, and other great family favorites. I was a huge fan of his food back when they were at Alex's Giant Burgers in San Pablo, and many others have been fans of Alex and Hannah's offerings since their days in El Cerrito at the original Nib's. Their new location is a huge improvement over their last one in San Pablo. It is much more spacious and has a beautiful interior. Whereas they had a lot before, now it is only street parking. But the food is still so yummy! Alex's burgers and omelettes are my favorite choices, but his sandwiches are great, and his chicken teriyaki plate is also a fan favorite that I enjoy. We decided to try a new spot for breakfast, nibs was one of the recommendations. We came into this beautiful establishment and it is so clean. I love the big windows, it is sunny and warm inside. We found parking easily. We sat down and got greeted right away by our gracious waitress. She was polite, sweet and very attentive. She brought me coffee with cold fresh half and half, sugar and an extra pot of coffee which she sat at my table. We ordered our food, I decided to go with the French toast plate, I added blueberries!!! Omg it was delicious!!!! Blueberries were fresh and crunchy, and the French toast were amazing! My goodness, could I have picked a more visually unappealing plate from their menu. White rice, eggs over easy and linguiça on white plate, there's hardly any contrast! Rice, a fried egg, and grilled linguiça - these are simple dishes you can do at home, but there's technique and Alex has it down - at least to my tastes. The rice has to be perfect, Alex is Asian, I won't any accept any excuses for the rice not being perfect. The eggs and the linguiça, well that's technique. Eggs over easy, not everyone gets it right, too often my eggs over easy are served up over medium, or worse over hard. You can't enjoy rice without good runny yolk - his over easy is spot on. The linguiça, I guess if Alex's kitchen was a latin establishment, you would call it a la plancha. Butterflied with the skin slightly sliced along the length and pressed down on the griddle, the sausage is cooked evenly and the meat is a consistent texture - not burnt - not underdone. It was as satisfying a meal as any I've had since the Nibs days in El Cerrito and the short Alex's Burger venture in San Pablo. I'm glad to see Hannah and Alex back. The new place is roomy, and there's a bathroom. Hannah is the consummate host, greeting everyone, many by name. She makes sure everyone is comfortable and always inviting everyone back with a "see you tomorrow" farewell. I'm fortunate that even as they have moved well South of El Sobrante, they are that much closer to my work in Emeryville. read more

Nothing to see here. Don't even think about it. This isn't the best breakfast spot for miles, with the most deliciously prepared food, at great prices, created by an awesome pair of people. You didn't hear that from me! No need to run out right now and order anything with those super fresh eggs, and another anything that comes with those giant blueberries. I'm not saying that even the honeydew wedge for garnish is mouth-wateringly ripe. On a busy morning, will the proprietors find a way to satisfy a special request and turn a super-veggie omelet into a plate of two perfectly over easy eggs and a big pile of sautéed vegetables topped with cheese and ripe avocado? Bread is perfectly toasted n buttery, chicken is juicy. Fries are always crispy. Fruit is always sweet. Everything is fresh. I frequented Nibs when they were in El Cerrito and when Alex and Hannah moved to Giant Burger in San Pablo. I attended Friday to meet a friend there and had their Chicken Teriyaki Breakfast. Taste great as I remembered it. So I took my son and wife there the day after. Ordered the Beef Teriyaki breakfast for my son, wife ordered the veggie omelet and I had the corned beef hash. They give you a large portion as my son and wife brought leftovers. Everything tasted great which brought back fond memories. Hannah remembered me and my son as we were very regular customers. I am glad we finally got to visit Nibs in Oakland and glad we did as we will frequent them again and again, very soon. read more

Came on a Saturday morning & we got a table by the door. We ordered typical breakfast fare &, it did not disappoint. The staff was friendly, the portions of food was gracious. My partner really enjoyed the food. They have alot of foot traffic of to go orders & it stays crowded so that should tell you something that the food is good. My partner said we'll be back so if he said it, then we'll definitely be back as he is hard to wow food wise lol read more

I was looking for a place to get a good hot breakfast. It was OK... The place is a hole in the wall spot. I ordered grits, an omelette and sourdough toast. I wanted coffee but they didn't have vanilla creamer. That's the 1st thing that irritated me. THEN my grits were lumpy AF and lukewarm. The omelette was cool. They do have a varied selection of hot sauces for your eggs if you're into that. I'm on the fence but I doubt I'd give them a 2nd chance. read more

They do a good breakfast. First off, I got a hot link with two eggs served over easy. The hot link was halved and seared on both sides so it was crispy on both sides. The eggs where cooked to expectations. The bonus was a nice fat chunk of honeydew as garnish, but it was cold, sweet, and crisp and they perfect finish to a solid meal. The only thing I thought was just okay was the homefries. They could have been more crisp. I got my wife an order of hasbrowns and I tried them myself and I liked them more than the homefries. My wife thought they were pretty ok, but said she liked mine a lot more. I've been spoiling her with my own sweet potato hash on the weekends, so that isn't a fair comparison. read more

I called to see if there was outside seating and was told over the phone I was able to sit outside. I picked up my phone then sat at a table outside and was told by the employees that there was no outside seating at the time so I proceeded to eat in my car outside of Nibs. I saw two Hispanic men approach the establish and seat themselves quickly after the owners rush out with coffee creamer while taking the order of these two men. Then the employees go back in and bring out a heater for them. Being a black man I was rubbed the wrong way with how I was treated. The food was bland as well. Cafeteria hash browns and omelettes that did not taste fresh. NIBS was definitely a one and done experience for me. read more
