Spicy beef tallow soup and Chinese herbal soup
    Eric W.

We went with the Chinese herbal soup base and the spicy beef tallow soup base, and both were absolutely on point. The herbal broth was rich, comforting, and full of depth, while the spicy beef tallow had that perfect numbing kick, super flavorful and addicting. They offered a large selection of different type of meats and vegetables to choose. Definitely coming back to try more next time!

This is a very authentic Sichuan style spicy hot pot and skewer restaurant. Great decor, not cheap but priced right for ingredients that actually taste fresh! Portions from the buffet fridge can be larger for sharing, but the hot pot menu is great as well. Serves alcohol, which some might need for the spiciness! Sauce bar and dessert/snack area are also well stocked. Nice 2 Meat U indeed!

I used to really love it here but they closed down, remodeled, and just aren't great anymore. Instead of getting your own ingredients from the fridge, you order online now. Half our order never came out and after waiting a while, I finally asked and a server went to the kitchen for a while before finally letting us know they were out of items. Instead of anyone letting us know proactively or marking the items as out of stock on the app, it showed "preparing". We didn't end up eating much and were charged over $70 for 2 people. What was also confusing is the online ordering system didn't show prices for skewers. They ended up charging $5 per person just to use the sauce bar and the snack section had much less options than before.

Really fun skewers hot pot spot! I like that you can choose exactly what you want, which is perfect if you want to try a little bit of everything without ordering large portions. We tried the split pot with spicy broth and tomato broth. The spicy side was flavorful, and the tomato broth was lighter and refreshing. There were many choices, including meat skewers, seafood, vegetables, and braised items. The blood curd was surprisingly good -- soft and no strong smell. The restaurant has a cute and casual atmosphere, and the setup with bamboo baskets and small dishes is very photo-friendly. Great place for a relaxed meal with friends or family.

We visited Nice to Meet You Hot Pot and while the food itself was good, the overall experience had some downsides. The restaurant was extremely crowded, to the point where it was hard to walk around comfortably. One thing that really threw us off was that the appetizers were located right by the front entrance and waiting area. With so many people walking by and reaching over the food, it didn't feel very sanitary, so we didn't really want to eat much from that section. For the skewers, we had to order through a kiosk, which was fine, but added another step to an already busy experience. The food we did eat was tasty and well seasoned, but it was very pricey. Our total came out to almost $400, which felt steep for what we got. Another frustrating part was the receipt being entirely in Chinese, making it hard for us to understand the charges. Unfortunately, the server didn't explain the receipt clearly, and since we don't speak Chinese, it left us confused about the breakdown. Overall, the food quality was good, but between the crowded layout, appetizer placement, high price point, and lack of clear communication, it didn't feel worth the cost. Probably wouldn't return unless changes are made. Plaza sucks by the way, there's limited spots and it's mostly garage parking.

The restaurant is clean, and the ingredients are very fresh. The service is excellent, and you can tell the staff is attentive. It's a new hot pot place and quite popular. It was busy when we visited. The soup bases are flavorful, and overall, the dining experience was very good. Definitely recommended, though the prices are on the higher side.

One of the most authentic Chengdu style hot pots in the SGV. After renovations the space seems much cleaner and more upscale. Most items are self service (sauce bar, dessert/fruit bar, fridge with skewers and raw meats/veggies). Premium meats, sides, desserts, drinks can be ordered using QR code on the table. Food quality was pretty good, everything we took from the fridge was fresh. Highlights were the fresh pork blood, beef offals, and beef wrapped skewers (regular and mala). Service was pretty quick and the servers were really attentive with everything needed. Once you finish your meal the server will count the bowls/plates taken from the fridge and also count the amount of skewers in the bin. Would definitely recommend and return!

Today I went to That Year, We Met in San Gabriel, and it's honestly the kind of hot pot place where once you start grabbing dishes, you just want to keep going back for more. What impressed me most wasn't just the hot pot itself, but how amazing and extensive the self-serve selection area was. Walking around and picking out ingredients felt almost like browsing a mini food market, which made the whole meal feel more fun and interactive. It's the kind of place that's perfect for a group of friends or a family meal. Everything we ordered was genuinely so good, so I have to talk about each dish separately: Jia Jia Pot (Tomato Broth with Pork Stomach and Chicken) I really loved this soup base. The tomato broth was slightly sweet and tangy in a really appetizing way, and it was so smooth and comforting to drink. The combination of pork stomach and chicken worked really well, making the broth taste extra rich and flavorful. It's one of those soup bases that just gets better and better the longer it cooks, and everything tastes better in it. New Zealand Lamb Shoulder The quality of the lamb was really good. The texture was tender but still had a nice bite to it, and after just a few seconds in the pot, it was perfect. It didn't have that strong gamy taste some lamb can have. Instead, the meat flavor really stood out, and dipping it into sauce made it even more satisfying. Freshly Sliced Diaolong Beef This plate definitely deserves a shoutout. The beef looked super fresh, and the marbling was beautiful. After a quick swish in the broth, the texture turned out incredibly tender with just a little bit of bounce. It was rich, flavorful, and honestly a must-order for beef lovers. Eight Eggs, Four Liang Rice (Large) The name alone is already memorable, but the dish itself was also such a pleasant surprise. It had that irresistible wok hei aroma, tasted super savory, and was incredibly good with rice. The portion was generous too, and the more I ate, the more I wanted another bite.

Although the weather is getting hot, it still can't stop my love for butter hot pot! After meeting Upgrade that year, there were many new dishes, and they also added desserts and freshly made drinks ??Now you can add fresh blood to the buttery pot base . It's so smooth when you take a bite, and it's really different from the pre-made ones! I also chose the pig's stomach and chicken pot base over there, and there were really pig's stomach and chicken in it. This one is perfect for cooking vegetables. The Chinese cabbage I cooked was really delicious. At the end, I could even have a sip of the soup. Now there are fresh cuts like hock, chopsticks handle, snowflake beef, and five-flavor toe, etc. This time I ordered the five-flavor toe. Just by looking at the color and texture, you can tell it's fresh. It feels like being back home. The variety of cooked food has also increased. The fried rice I ordered this time was large in portion, rich in ingredients, and very fragrant. I even took some home and had another meal. It seems that the skewers have become less, but there are many more small bowls of dishes now. Each small bowl costs less than $5, which is very suitable for a small group of people to eat. You can enjoy a wide variety of cuisines here. This is a place I really like. Now there is also a series of braised dishes. The soft and tender braised large intestines are my favorite. The variety has also increased a lot. There are even several kinds of shrimp paste, stuffed in different ingredients. It's so hard to choose. ??The Thai chicken feet in the snack bar are a must-have every time the pot starts boiling! Besides the rice wine and ice noodles at the snack bar, there are now pre-made desserts. After having the hot pot, a bowl of chilled tofu pudding is just too good. The sparkling water is not only good-looking but also spicy. The current "Encounter" is really popular. While I'm writing this, I'm already drooling thinking about my spicy beef and chicken bone with liver skewers.

Outside it was drizzling, and inside the red chili oil was bubbling -- this is exactly the kind of steamy, festive vibe Chinese New Year should have! This meal really gave me the feeling of being back in China. The restaurant's bright red decorations are full of New Year spirit. As an authentic Sichuan hot pot spot, the selection here truly hits the spot for Sichuan food lovers: duck intestines, pork brain, beef omasum, duck tongues... many "hardcore" ingredients that are hard to find elsewhere are all available here! Skewers are only $0.49 each, and small plates are $5.99. The spicy broth even comes with blood tofu, which is a nice touch. Besides the hot pot, the skewers and small plates are real highlights. There's also a self-serve sauce bar with free cold dishes and white fungus dessert. Having some after the meal is so refreshing and helps cut the richness -- pure comfort and satisfaction!

    Pretty h.

Tried "That Year Encounter" recently after hearing a lot of recommendations. The ingredients were very fresh, and they had a wide variety to choose from. Besides skewers, they also offer bowl-style items, which gives you more options. From the outside, the entrance looks small and easy to miss, but the inside is actually quite spacious, clean, and well organized. The soup base was flavorful without being too heavy, so it's something you won't get tired of. One highlight was their "8-egg fried rice" -- it was surprisingly good, with strong wok hei and rich flavor. Definitely a must-try. Overall, a solid spot for skewers with good value, fresh ingredients, and a comfortable environment. Great for casual dining with friends.

The whole space has this minimal Korean-style aesthetic, and it's the kind of place where just sitting there with a coffee feels super chill But the REAL highlight this time was definitely their croissants!! I personally became obsessed with the pressed croissant After being pressed flat, the outside becomes extra crispy, and every bite has those super satisfying flaky layers. The more you chew, the more fragrant it gets -- honestly impossible to stop eating. The kimchi bacon garlic roll with runny egg yolk was also such a surprise! Even after reheating it at home, the egg yolk was still perfectly runny The moment you cut it open = instant happiness hahaha. Kimchi + bacon + garlic together worked SO well, savory with just a slight spicy kick... seriously addictive. The Dubai pistachio croissant had such a strong pistachio flavor, and the black truffle mushroom croissant had an incredibly rich truffle aroma For drinks, we ordered an Americano topped with pistachio cream and a latte topped with black sesame cream The cream toppings were super thick and flavorful! They paired perfectly with both the croissants and cream puffs. Lastly, we took home a box of 8 different cream puffs. We got the 4-piece set with Bischoff Crunch, Taiwan Dong Ding Oolong Tea, Marukyu Matcha, and Dark Chocolate because leaving chocolate behind feels illegal. First bite in and suddenly everyone at the table forgot manners. The puff shells were perfectly crisp and airy, while the cream inside was smooth, light, and not sugar-bomb sweet. Every flavor showed up exactly as advertised too. The matcha came in earthy and rich, the oolong tasted like tea leaves earned a pastry degree, and the Bischoff Crunch almost caused a "who had more bites" courtroom situation. Meanwhile the Dark Chocolate sat there quietly like the cool cousin at the family party before completely stealing the show. The drinks were not about to get overshadowed either. The Pistachio Cream Top Latte was ridiculous in the best way possible, especially knowing they roast the pistachios in-house before turning them into that silky nutty cloud on top. And the Lemon Breeze Espresso? Bright, citrusy, refreshing, basically summer on vacation while espresso does cartwheels in the background. Safe to say Browned did not come to play. My caffeine levels are concerning, my dessert standards are now unrealistic, and yes... I'm already planning my return like a pastry addict with a mission.

The matcha itself was pretty weak and a bit flat, missing that rich, earthy depth you'd hope for, so overall it just fell a little meh.
