Spicy beef tallow soup and Chinese herbal soup
    Eric W.

We went with the Chinese herbal soup base and the spicy beef tallow soup base, and both were absolutely on point. The herbal broth was rich, comforting, and full of depth, while the spicy beef tallow had that perfect numbing kick, super flavorful and addicting. They offered a large selection of different type of meats and vegetables to choose. Definitely coming back to try more next time!

Been here so many times and there's no disappointment. My friend and I came again like usual and loved dinning in. The meat is fresh and good quality. The skewers and some of the dishes are outside in the fridge which is easy to get. The service was great and good place to hang out with friends after work. Will always come back.

Great atmosphere and very affordable prices! Skewers are only $0.49 each, and a platter is just $5.99. There is a great variety to choose from, plus plenty of drinks and snacks. Definitely a great value. We will definitely be back!

Tried "That Year Encounter" recently after hearing a lot of recommendations. The ingredients were very fresh, and they had a wide variety to choose from. Besides skewers, they also offer bowl-style items, which gives you more options. From the outside, the entrance looks small and easy to miss, but the inside is actually quite spacious, clean, and well organized. The soup base was flavorful without being too heavy, so it's something you won't get tired of. One highlight was their "8-egg fried rice" -- it was surprisingly good, with strong wok hei and rich flavor. Definitely a must-try. Overall, a solid spot for skewers with good value, fresh ingredients, and a comfortable environment. Great for casual dining with friends.

This is a very authentic Sichuan style spicy hot pot and skewer restaurant. Great decor, not cheap but priced right for ingredients that actually taste fresh! Portions from the buffet fridge can be larger for sharing, but the hot pot menu is great as well. Serves alcohol, which some might need for the spiciness! Sauce bar and dessert/snack area are also well stocked. Nice 2 Meat U indeed!

I used to really love it here but they closed down, remodeled, and just aren't great anymore. Instead of getting your own ingredients from the fridge, you order online now. Half our order never came out and after waiting a while, I finally asked and a server went to the kitchen for a while before finally letting us know they were out of items. Instead of anyone letting us know proactively or marking the items as out of stock on the app, it showed "preparing". We didn't end up eating much and were charged over $70 for 2 people. What was also confusing is the online ordering system didn't show prices for skewers. They ended up charging $5 per person just to use the sauce bar and the snack section had much less options than before.

This is a really great option for szechuan hotpot in the sgv. It does lack a little in selection of meats for the skewers and a lot of the meats are in the platters or the side dishes as well. Everything is really high quality and is pretty comparable to the Irvine location. The service is fine most of them speak Mandarin and okay English and the wait generally is only half hour or a little more. The inside is really nice but parties bigger then 4 or 6 seem to be hard to accommodate.

We visited Nice to Meet You Hot Pot and while the food itself was good, the overall experience had some downsides. The restaurant was extremely crowded, to the point where it was hard to walk around comfortably. One thing that really threw us off was that the appetizers were located right by the front entrance and waiting area. With so many people walking by and reaching over the food, it didn't feel very sanitary, so we didn't really want to eat much from that section. For the skewers, we had to order through a kiosk, which was fine, but added another step to an already busy experience. The food we did eat was tasty and well seasoned, but it was very pricey. Our total came out to almost $400, which felt steep for what we got. Another frustrating part was the receipt being entirely in Chinese, making it hard for us to understand the charges. Unfortunately, the server didn't explain the receipt clearly, and since we don't speak Chinese, it left us confused about the breakdown. Overall, the food quality was good, but between the crowded layout, appetizer placement, high price point, and lack of clear communication, it didn't feel worth the cost. Probably wouldn't return unless changes are made. Plaza sucks by the way, there's limited spots and it's mostly garage parking.

The restaurant is clean, and the ingredients are very fresh. The service is excellent, and you can tell the staff is attentive. It's a new hot pot place and quite popular. It was busy when we visited. The soup bases are flavorful, and overall, the dining experience was very good. Definitely recommended, though the prices are on the higher side.

Newly remodeled restaurant and I love the decoration. They have free food and snack for you while you are waiting in line. This is the most kind of thing. All snakes are free and I like the chicken feet very much. The beef is freshly cut and it's kinda open kitchen so you can see the staff cutting the meat. We often eat a lot of hot pot skewers with the spicy soup base. Very tasty and it is worth to try. Love this place. The No1 hot pot spot in my mind.

Beef Tallow and Beef Bone Broth

One of the most authentic Chengdu style hot pots in the SGV. After renovations the space seems much cleaner and more upscale. Most items are self service (sauce bar, dessert/fruit bar, fridge with skewers and raw meats/veggies). Premium meats, sides, desserts, drinks can be ordered using QR code on the table. Food quality was pretty good, everything we took from the fridge was fresh. Highlights were the fresh pork blood, beef offals, and beef wrapped skewers (regular and mala). Service was pretty quick and the servers were really attentive with everything needed. Once you finish your meal the server will count the bowls/plates taken from the fridge and also count the amount of skewers in the bin. Would definitely recommend and return!

Fresh ingredients, rich broths, and excelente service! The beef tallow and pork stomach chicken soups were amazing, and the spicy duck blood is a must-try. Will definitely be back!

Finally, Los Angeles has a solid Sichuan-style chuan chuan hotpot place. The restaurant is super clean but still has that warm, lively "smoky fire" atmosphere. The skewers are insanely affordable -- most are under 5 cents each! We ordered the yuanyang (half spicy, half mild) pot, and the mild side was already plenty spicy for me. The ingredients were super fresh, abundant, and high quality. Everything tasted great. We went on a Tuesday night and there was still a long line -- that says a lot. Definitely recommend if you're craving authentic chuan chuan hotpot!

And probably the busiest store in the already crazy busy plaza. I see why the line goes out the door. Flavor was excellent. Well balanced. Nothing overpowering. I'm sure others rave about the drink sleeve with the trusty rope handle. Which is surprisingly sturdy. I mean, don't go swinging around your highly crafted drink you paid good money for. I usually ask for less ice and 0% percent sugar since it's already sweetened with honey. The oolong is fragrant, smooth and tastes high quality, making every sip a treat. This drink instantly brightens my day. The staff are friendly and ordering from the self-service kiosk makes it quick and easy. It's definitely a grab and go spot. The only downside is that the shop is tucked toward the back of the plaza, somewhat hidden and parking can be difficult during busy times. I usually have better luck finding street parking. With so many tea shops popping up, Chun Yang continues to be one of my tried and true favorites- a perfect fusion of traditional and modern.

I ordered one of their most popular drinks the Iced Banana Latte. On first sip, it was smooth and I could taste the mild espresso with the undercurrent of silky banana syrup. All in all this is a solid drink to try here as a first timer. I think next time if I ever ordered it again, I would ask for half ice instead of the default amount. In contrasting drink orders, my friend ordered Persimmon Milk and she liked it. It seems all the iced drinks come in large or extra large size. For the price point, $5.99 is such a deal. Customer service was average, our drinks were made very promptly after we placed them on the self-order kiosks.
