You pick your soup bases and meats with the server and the big thing here are the selection of skewers that you get to choose from. The selections were plentiful even for vegetarians as they had plates of veggies, skewers for seafood lovers and meat lovers. Now, the 2 star rating is mainly from the poor service, messy sauce station and the "mild" broth that was hardly mild. The mild broth was super spicy and the broth was way too red for it to be mild. Mostly not their fault but the sauce station was a mess with flavors mixed in and the toppings all over the place. Service was poor to fair as it took awhile to get anyone's attention even though it wasn't busy. Parking in the Convoy area is as expected with this place. read more

I went here with my friend and sister, I think that they handle covid not that seriously, but I was satisfied with the experience and food. The waiters were very nice and they got us what we want. Other than that taste of the broth of both soups are pretty authentic. I have been to Sichuan many many times; therefore, have eaten so many authentic hotpot. They have most of ingredients that you can find in Sichuan like pig brain, duck blood, geese intestines, and many more. Came here before the second lockdown during COVID. Temperature taken at the entrance and patrons seated far apart. Easy to order and food was extremely fresh. The skewers to dip in the hot pot were freshly wrapped and tasty - I didn't have any food poisoning. The two soup bases mixed together made for an awesome tasting soup to dip my food into - I didn't even bother with the dipping sauce since everything was so flavorful already. It is a mainly Mandarin-speaking restaurant so having someone to order for you is helpful. Dessert at the end is $1 which is an utter steal since you can take home whatever you don't finish. Maybe they kept it open for "ventilation" (to get more hot air from outside???). Service was pretty good consider how busy they were and how hot it was for us, which will be much worse for them working. They brought us water and ice quickly when we requested. That snack bar was a big no for us but we saw people take food from there. They have fruits, chinese dessert soup, seaweed, chicken feet, sweet potato fries and other random snacks. It just looked like a cabinet of bacteria breeding site. We came here because AC at another same style restaurant broke down but AC was bad, probably of how full it was and the boiling pots. They have a wide variety of soup bases and skewers to choose from. They have the deep fried meat fish and other hot pot meats you can order off the menu. You grab the skewers from the fridge, and they are counted at $0.45 per stick. Some items come on 2 sticks. They count the total. Most of the seasoned skewers tasted pretty good. There was one, the beef wrapped pineapple, had a strange texture. It was very mushy, maybe it's not fresh anymore? Others were fine. The space to grab the skewers was a little tight when there are 4-6 people trying to get food at the same time. This one girl squeezed / bumped in as I was still getting food, but that's on her not the restaurant. They did charge the snack bar fee of $5.95. We did not bother to ask them to take it off since we will not come back. If you are charging for it, it better be more hygienic. How did I not know this place exist. The hot pot here is really good! I think this is one of the best idea for hot pot majority of their meats and vegetables are on skewers, which makes it so much easier to get food out of the hot pot. You don't have to go fishing all the time. The skewers are about $0.45 per stick. We ordered two different soup base, Chinese herb and hot chilly spice. The Chinese herb base isn't commonly seen sand was quite tasty. We go the medium spicy soup base and had right amount of kick to it. If it gets too spicy, can switch to the Chinese herb soup. Fish tofu squares are really good. They have a nice soft smooth texture and light. The shrimp balls also awesome and appears homemade and has a really soft and chewy texture. Be sure to look for the little pouch with the Chinese character lucky on it. It's super cute and delicious. The pouch has shrimp, fish roe, and waterchestnuts mix with egg or fishball filling. They also have this awesome coconut milk drink. That is definitely a must try. Service was great. There's a good selection of sauces. I also love their canto style desserts and sesame ball. I brought my service dog with me to dinner, and two of the male staff refused to serve us, claiming that "we don't care" in Chinese even though we have proof that our dog is a certified service dog. They simply said they don't care. This is a heart broken experience. I am extremely upset by their attitude and word choice. My dog is certified to serve my need. This is a double ignorance and discrimination on both my need and my service dog. I can't believe such service can survive in LA, a such modern, empathic, passionate city. My recent favorite hot pot place in San Gabriel! Compared with regular hot pots, Chuan Chuan (skewers) serves food on skewers so that you don't need to fish around your food in the pot. You can choose two soup bases, one spicy, and the other not spicy. All skewers are placed in a big transparent fridge in the hall, so you can pick what you like after literally seeing them. I highly recommend the tomato soup base, suitable for boiling leaves and vegetables. It is better to put meat skewers in spicy soup as they are marinated. The ingredients are fresh, and the soup is very tasty. Good place for hot pot beginners! read more

My favorite place to go to. The good thing about this place is that you can choose as little as you want. Lets say you have to purchase a full plate of corn elsewhere when you just want 1 corn. This place put a corn on a skewer and only charge you based on the count of each skewer. I believe somewhat 38 cents each ( not too sure, but wont be over 50 cents). Definitely hidden gem in SGV area. You chose your broth (1 pot with 2 halves for a party of 4). My friends and I tried the tomato and spicy beef tallow which had a lot of chili. I was sweating at "mild". Then you can go "shopping" for the meat - they're placed on skewers at a side fridge. Each skewer is around 30(?) cents and some items have two skewers. Some meats are available to order on the menu. Everything was labeled in Chinese so I didn't know which meats I was picking except certain things looked like beef or chicken. I got a lot of veggies, mushrooms, chicken cartilage and beef wrapped in ?? items. They did refill water quite often. There is also a side table for appetizers and they charge per plate. Also they charge for each sauce bowl. We ate to our hearts content and the bill came out to be $35 per person. There are three things I like about the place. A. Authentic Sichuan hot pot with superb quality and choices. Including the skewers and items on the menu. My husband is a white guy who LOVES spicy food. His favorites are noodles, spicy beef/麻辣牛肉, needle mushrooms, peanuts, white fungus goji berry dessert. My favorites are duck blood/鸭血 and goose intestines/鹅肠. I also love pork brain/猪脑 but haven't got enough room to tried it yet. B. All the side dishes by the front door are AYCE and included in the $1.99 sauce fee (per person). We didn't know and asked for togo boxes to pack the side dishes we didn't finish. The waitress was so nice and didn't say anything. Even after we found out, she still gave us the boxes. C. Great service. Fast and friendly. Although this was only our second time here, our waitress actually remembered us. She even remembered where we sit last time. There are a lot of people. After waiting for 20 minutes, the service is good and satisfactory. It is not the same as hot pot, a little bit different, and the taste is similar. Fewer people can take less dishes, and more people can take plates. Two people can't finish it, but the hot pot is on a plate. I want to order everything, and I can't finish it. Food tasted good but this place is dirty. The smell from the cleaning cloth smells like the restroom. Also a lot of stains from previous customers on the table and we moved to another table still some stains. In addition the soup ladle had pieces of chili stuck on. It's all machine wash but still kind of sick when you see it. We just stopped using the ladle when going to hotpot places We asked for discount based on adding their WeChat. We didn't know we had to add before coming into the store and last time we came here they said to show them that we added them. The waitress said did you delete us and added again? She is assuming we are trying to pull a quick one. The assumption of us doing shady things is disgusting. We have been here few times and didn't get discount because it was a new thing and they said they would honor it. However this waitress doesn't know how to speak to customers and assumes we are pulling a quick one. i used to love this place, the food is great and the price is right. but todays experience leaves a terrible taste in my mouth. we come to this place often and do our 1-2 hour wait as usual. but today they let a party of 7 take a seat, when they literally just got here. instead of letting out party of 5 sit. we literally stared at this table for a good 15 minutes, and the staff basically said no can do, they're gonna make more money from the party of 7 instead of 5 so we're gonna wait while they sit. to add salt to injury, another table opened up and the staff STILL wanted to let another new group that just got here before us. My girlfriend and I drove in from the Bay Area, and the very first restaurant that we decided to hit up was this place. We had heard so much and we were excited to eat their food! However, the business itself is just poorly run and straight up do not know the law. We have a service dog with us, and service dogs are clearly allowed in restaurants due to their essential need to their owner. To deny someone due to this is a federal violation. Perhaps the owner just does not know federal law and doesn't educate or train their staff properly, because they denied us any opportunity to eat merely because they don't understand the law. Even when we tried to educate them on the law, they insisted. It does not matter on the business owner's personal feelings towards dogs as a whole, service dogs are not to be denied entry to any public serving business. We are considering a lawsuit to be pushed to federal court, and if the owner is reading this review please take note that the federal government takes these violations seriously. It's understandable that restaurants are having to adapt to a difficult time time during COVID however certain things should not be compromised. We were having dinner outside like protocols and the table next to us had three guys smoking cigarettes right at the entrance of the restaurant. They had no regard for any of the other customers for either of the restaurants that they were sitting in front of. As we continued our meal, there ended up being three groups of people smoking. Since no one said they couldn't they just followed each other and continued to smoke throughout their meals. I spoke with a waiter and he just said there's nothing he could do. I replied he is smoking next to us and in front of the restaurant. To which he replied again he couldn't control it. Instead of asking them to stop smoking they just continued to deliver dishes to them instead. Three different waiters all approached that table and not a single one asked them to stop smoking. Unfortunately that is not something that I can agree with. I don't believe we will be returning to this establishment again. Customer service is severely lacking and I am not expecting much to begin with since it's a hot pot place that you cook your own food. Had lunch here this afternoon! It was a fun twist on the regular hot pot experiences we've had. First, you choose your soup base (either one or a split pot), then you can go to the fridge area where they have an assortment of things to put in the hot pot - a fridge for veggies, dumplings, noodles, a fridge for various meat skewers, and a fridge for shrimp/beef/mixed balls. You are charged $.45 per skewer (some items have two skewers going through it so be aware) and the other dishes are color coded based on how they are priced. There is also a self-serve sauce station so you can create whatever combination you want to dip your meat into. We went with the spicy beef tallow broth (medium but I wish we did mile) and the tomato soup broth. I usually do one non-spicy one spicy to switch it up and this was a good choice because the spicy broth was no joke! Our fave items were probably the pineapple wrapped beef and yam noodles. There was a really good texture on the noodles. One thing that I thought would be helpful was if there was some English text next to the meat and sauce options because I had to guess what everything was since it was Chinese characters only. But overall the experience was really fun and the flavors are on point! read more

Meat quality and menu selection is pretty limited, they charge a soup base fee and sauce fee, fee does not include any comprehensive veggie dish, so you would have to pay extra for any veggie dish you choose, which would make it more expensive comparing to other hot pot places.
