Delicious! We got the 1) beef and radish, along with 2) soy sauce duck and 3) fish, tofu and chicken dish. All three were fantastic, especially the fish, tofu and chicken. It was sooo flavorful. Congee is available on the weekends and we got the traditional pork and preserved egg, along with the (melon and shrimp?) The first was spot on. I'd never heard of the later, and while it was tasty, there wasn't anything remarkable, and I hardly saw any ingredients in it at all, besides rice. Service is friendly, the space is clean, but a bit tight. A little hole in the wall joint located inside rolling hills plaza. They serve pretty good food and service is friendly and efficient. They have a special chicken dish where in you have to order one day ahead. Its has crunchy chicken skin and meat is cut out and replaced with a shrimp paste layered in top of the chicken meat. Very unique dish not in the menu. I would have to say prices are more on the high side. And my main complaint about this place is that you have to go through their kitchen and work area to get to the restroom located at the very back. read more

Walked around Rolling Hills Plaza for what felt like an eternity and gave up trying to find this place. Drove off on PCH and low an behold I see it from the street. A quick U-turn and we're there.... Got in about 12 noonish to a packed joint. Nice lady sitting at a 4-top moved to a 2-top so my family could have a table. For once, having Jr with us paid off. Service a little slow but to be expected as crowded as they were. Here's the rundown: Jr: BBQ Pork and Duck with Rice. All deli bbq meats were well seasoned and tasty. Typical plate with choi in the side. Wifey: Same as Jr but with noodle soup. Okay dish the soup broth somewhat bland Me: Wonton noodle soup. Another okay dish. My sister and I went for lunch. We had the soy sauce chicken and rice, and the roast duck and rice. Both were absolutely delicious. I'm so surprised how good this place is. The food here is pretty good but I don't feel welcome here at all. I'm starting to notice a pattern with the whole racism, I have personally witnessed it for myself. I've come here with my son and was not even greeted. I had to walk up to the counter and ask where to sit. Since my son is only 2, I still use a high chair for him and had to ask for one. The man brought one out that didn't even have a working belt to strap him in. I asked him for a glass of water and he didn't bring it to me until I was almost done and I actually had to ask again. The food here is decent and flavorful but the wait times between dishes was just ridiculous. It took twenty minutes for our second dish to come out. If anyone is familiar with Chinese cuisine, you know it's family style, so you usually get it all at once. Instead we all ended up eating three times as much rice because it's like we at THREE mini meals instead of one meal. What's worse is this was my brother's birthday so it was a little bit of a drag because he deserves better. It's a mom and pop shop, and they were busy but it was like they were spending all their energy on the two large dinner parties and nothing on anyone else. Also it took ten minutes to get a cup of water. My butt got numb by the end of the meal, because I'd been waiting so long at the edge of my seat for the next dish. However the food was good so if you've got time to spare you should try this place. Also. They didn't have the roast duck, soy sauce chicken or Peking duck. This is the worst place I've been to. The employees are mean and rude to customers of all races, even Chinese themselves. I have no idea why so many people gave it 4 stars. The service is horrible. The employee stares at us and rarely speaks. They don't respond to you quickly either. They always seat us at the front with all that dust and wind. We've tried the barbecue pork many times, but it is always burnt and hard like a chicken bone. Out of the entire dish, we could only swallow 1/3 of it, the rest are put aside. I have eaten Nice China Cafe's food probably about 100 times. I do not exaggerate. What can I say; when my parents commit to a neighborhood restaurant, they *REALLY* commit. I ate here even back when it was under different ownership and had the super-emo name "Leave Me Alone." (Legend has it that the name served as some sort of angry message from the former owner to his father.) At any rate, Nice China Cafe has some pretty great food. Our family favorites include the following (all our descriptions based on Chinese translations into English, because my parents always order so I don't know what the heck the English names are): - shrimp stir-fried with scrambled eggs and chives - the eggs are so tender and fragrant with the chives! - tofu with salted fish and chicken - roast chicken with soy dipping sauce - BBQ pork (this is sometimes just ok) The owner is super-nice and always accommodates my dad's special dietary requests to reduce sodium and oil. I am a regular customer and I usually come and dine in and this was my first time ordering for pick up. Walked in at 5pm on a regular Sunday ( they open at 5pm ) and waited behind the counter a few minutes until the guy acknowledged me... he was taking orders from other people and I asked him what plate he had just delivered to the table behind me and he said in a very rude way that it was a house special chow mein. I ignored his attitude and asked him for one of the House chow mein ( IT LOOKED REALLY GOOD AND YUMMY) and I also ordered a soup, vegetable delight , beef with garlic sauce and EXTRA RICE. I asked him how long it would take for the food to be ready and he barely answered me and simply said - " twenty" , so I figured 20minutes . waited outside and came back to pick up my order and came home and the house special chow mein looked like trash, it was BURNT and hard like old noodle and he charged me for the rice that I never got! I AM NOT COMING BACK TO THIS PLACE ANYMORE AND I WILL TELL EVERYBODY TO STAY FAR AWAY FROM HERE because clearly the customer service is REALLY BAD and apparently if you don't speak their language they will not treat you right. Last week I searched for shrimp and string beans and decided to stop in. They charged me 12.95 for a decent portion. I came back tonight and ordered the same thing this time it was $14.95. Mind you the Broccoli Shrimp is $11.95 I substituted green beans for broccoli. When I asked why the dish cost more tonight than last week. Touting itself as "Hong Kong Style Barbecue", this little hole-in-wall doesn't impress with its decor or its service. There was only one server on a Sunday evening. However, the prices are right, with seafood dishes for $9.95 and other entress starting at $5.50. Lunch is open from 11-3, Tuesday to Sunday and you'll get a whole meal for less than $8. The shrimp lo mein was very garlicky and the noodles were chewy, a nice change from the normally greasy and soft noodles at most places. The orange chicken was a little rubbery but also nicely seasoned. Next time, we'll try the roast pork delight and the roast duck. This is one place to watch. read more

Family-owned restaurants are hard to find nowadays in the South Bay, and authentic Cantonese food is hard to find as well. Nice China is a combo of these two elements, which make it a truly rare breed. You can get chow mein and barbecued pork or chicken done the right way here. There are Americanized dishes on the menu as well, but rest assured traditional dishes have their presence, and all the food has the "wok aroma" that defines Hong Kong style food. Food was decent but I wasn't blown away. Had the Sesame Beef and the BBQ Pork with Vegetables. The beef was nice and crispy on the outside. Veggies tasted fresh. Pork could have been a bit more flavorful. One thing I must mention; the cafe is right next to a dog groomers and we heard a doggie who must have been having a bath barking throughout most of our meal. This location as long as I can remember has been the location of a hole in the wall Chinese restaurant. Originally the location of "Jimmy's Kitchen", this location in my opinion has always suffers from street presence. After a number of not so good places, finally a decent Chinese restaurant is back at this location. I've always been a fan of Hong Kong style chow-mien (both sides yellow). It's better to eat there in the restaurant when the food is hot. This place tends to be quite busy during lunch hour, so try to get their early. If you order it to go, they will keep the noodles separate so by the time you get home so it won't be soggy. Service can be slow when it gets busy, because they only have one person up front to take your order. The locals seem to know this place is good, so they should do well. read more

Very, very good Chinese restaurant especially if you make it for their lunch special. Great food at a good price. I recommend getting the General Tao's Chicken. Years ago when this place first opened, thought I kept an open mind and gave it a try. I was sorry I did. With the closing of Harbor Village, PCH, PV Palace etc, decent Chinese restaurants are truly slim pickings in the South bay. Heard they made some major improvements at this place, thought we gave it another shot and at lunch today, we ordered the simplest of Chinese food: 1. Steamed rice with two types of BBQ. My wife picked roast duck and BBQ pork. It came quickly because there's really no cooking involved. You scoop some rice and cut up the meat and throw them together. It was the sorriest looking Chinese lunch plate I've ever seen. Sitting next to the few super tiny thinly sliced bbq pork was three (3) tiny pieces of (?) roast duck (?) And they're all fat and skin and bone. My wife ended up dumping them after gnawing on them. She did say the bone tasted pretty good. 2. My wonton noodle. I realize I'm not at a noodle joint in Hong Kong so my expectation was low. Having said that, the noodle was passable, not too soggy. The wontons, on the other hand were deplorable. They were so small, wrapped in regular size wonton skin, the skin was all over the place. The filling tasted like they just jammed some ground pork together and called it a day. They're chewy and tasteless. The most horrific part was when I got to the last piece, it tasted completely different from the rest of them (not that the others were anything to write home about). It felt like they ran out of filling at the end but still have wonton skin left over, they just grab something from the kitchen counter and stuff it in. So sorry we went back. About three days before we go to visit my in-law's in the South Bay, my husband starts talking about "the chicken." Nice Cafe is one of our favorite places -- we get take-out from there on almost every visit, several times per month, and ate there at lunch on Christmas Day. The soy sauce chicken is so tender and flavorful, the BBQ pork tastes so good, and the shrimp and eggs is also great. The last time we went we tried the filet mignon/mushroom dish and found another favorite. We used to eat here when the restaurant was owned by a different family and served different regional Chinese food -- it's great that the current owners are occupying this space.
