This cafe is located in a shopping center, next to Trader Joe's, on the PCH in Torrance. It's a cute little restaurant owned by Cantonese people, and like many other chinese restaurants, its interior is decorated with the past month's holiday decorations. Rude. Pissy assed attitude. Gal hostess looked like she was pissed that you walked into the restaurant and bothered her.. 1 hour plus from call in for take out to obtain food. Sodium laden x 5 kind of Panda Express quality. To top it off, when we went to pick up food, she told us food wasn't ready after 60 minutes since call in but to pay for it first and come back in 15 minutes. Came back to get food and she said sorry, we made a mistake and charged you for the lunch portion but we only have dinner size even though it was clearly only their lunch menu and asked for another 8 dollars. NEVER EVER again. Don't need to pay for overpriced salt laden food and be pissed on by the Bitchy attitude of the NASTY GAL who acts like you are invading her space when you walk in to pick up your food. I don't recommend Nice China Cafe unless you enjoy waiting. Went for weekday dinner, and only one waitress to take orders, serve food and clear nine tables. We ended up ordering two dishes plus soup for party of two, and waited almost an hour for something other than tea to be served. The food is fantastic. We had slice beef with scallion which was very flavorful. Their fried rice and noodles dishes tasted very fresh. We really wanted to try their duck as we heard it was excellent but we were full from previous meal. Next time we have to try the duck. The staff was nice and friendly. Nice Cafe is located where Leave Me Alone used to be. With the change in ownership, the style of food completely changed. They now serve Chinese style BBQ and simple comfort dishes. I LOVE this place. Seriously, if this little restaurant doesn't make it, I'll be devastated. The food is excellent. But the dish that I crave is the BBQ soy sauce chicken. As with all their BBQ meats, they make the items fresh daily. They often sell out, so I call early and have them hold an order for me. Guys, this chicken is AMAZINGLY flavorful and juicy. Also, their char siu pork is tender and lean. They have a great tofu dish with salted fish and chicken. Shrimp and eggs is good, it's pretty difficult to mess up that dish though. I've only eaten inside twice. It's pretty small, and I generally find it easier to call in a take out order. But the service is friendly from what I experienced. This is not the place for the typical non-Asian Americans who prefer very salty food and overly sweet stir fry sauces. I almost never write reviews, but I have to say a few things about Nice Cafe. We love this place because the food is great! It's more homestyle Chinese cooking that is not nearly as greasy as most Chinese restaurants. Our favorites are the Barbque pork fried rice, fish filets with tofu in black bean sauce, black pepper beef filet stir fried with mushrooms, snow pea leaves stir fried with garlic, won ton noodle soup, dry fried string beans, and beef and vegetables in garlic sauce?(called you-shang beef in chinese). We go there every week and either take out or eat there. The prices are so reasonable too, not to mention the A rating that most Chinese restaurants in the area do not have. We call it the "Not so Nice Cafe". We order to go, sometimes we eat in. Usually we are the only non- Chinese people in the place- so we see that as a good sign.The lady answering the phone is never nice, we order, she says "15 minutes" hangs up and never asks for our name or repeats order. We pick up, she says"30 dollar". No thank you, no smile - no emotion. However, bottom line is : food is great, especially the orange beef has a dark rich sauce- very unique. Walnut Shrimp is best around. So we come back for the food, not customer service. So don't expect "nice" but great food. read more

My first introduction to authentic Chinese/Cantonese food came through one of the toughest food snobs I have ever met. A relocated Hong Kong native who was raised on the best Chinese/Cantonese/Thai and Malaysian food in the world. Having a father who is an excellent Italian and French chef did not hurt her either. Anyway, I have tasted some of the best Chinese food in Southern California and Nice Cafe is my absolute favorite. Sure Monterey Park has awesome food, so does Phoenix in Irvine. Down in San Diego there is a hidden spot that puts all other Dim Sum locations to shame. But, Nice Cafe has incredible broccoli, the walnut shrimp makes you want to close your eyes and drift to an enchanted culinary cloud as you chew, the congee is addictive, won ton noodle soup warms you to a pleasant smile, the shrimp and eggs are better than my mom's( I thought she made the best eggs anywhere), and the prices are unbeatable. The chef is a hard working man who has perfected the art of the perfect fire and infused sooo many mouth watering flavors into his food that it has us going there 3 times a week. Ok. I really wanted to like this place and went with an open mind. We do not have a lot of choices when it comes to Chinese dining in this area...at least good ones. One of my customers highly recommended this place and couldn't say enough about it. After dining here tonight I can only say that my customer will be getting a higher quote next time I do work for them. Terrible, Rude and Racist is putting it 'Nicely' for the 'Nice' China Cafe. I've never been so insulted in my life. My wife is Asian and I am American. This clearly did not sit well with the staff the second we walked in. Even the Chinese speaking customers gave us the stare down when we walked in. It was clear they were not interested in seating us so we sat ourselves. To be honest I am use to people staring at us when we go places as my wife is stunning and I, well what can I say. This being said the staring was not what we normally see when we go places. (1 The service was the worst I've ever had anywhere and I'm very well traveled. The knucklehead waiter brought food out to all the tables around us and did not acknowledge us at all. I had to walk up to the counter and ask for service which was not well received. I mean do they not want customers or do they only cater to 'their' people which was painfully obvious right away. (2 After finally ordering which seemed to pain the knucklehead waiter I can only say the food was just terrible. Kung pao chicken was diced smaller than the peanuts and there were far more peanuts then chicken. The 'Braised' String beans were something that looked like leftover reheated from a few days ago. The scallops and vegetables...well I don't even have words for it. (3 after attempting to eat some of the food the knucklehead waiter asked if we wanted it boxed up and we said 'no'. I guess that means 'yes' in Chinese. Usually a waiter or waitress would ask you if everything was ok but certainly not at the 'Nice' China Cafe. It's probably better they didn't ask because I would have told them without a filter. The final insult was the small what appeared to be a dessert item that they had given everyone in the place except for of course us. We even stayed for a bit longer to see if that was going to happen but clearly it was not going to. Probably reserved only for 'their' people. After reading all the Yelp reviews on this place I can only surmise the 3-4 star reviews must have come from friends or family. This place is terrible. It would be more appropriate to change the name to 'NASTY CHINA CAFE' this way unsuspecting customers will have a better idea of what they are walking into. 0 stars is what I want to give them but Yelp doesn't allow that. read more
