As a bariatric patient I eat very small portions so I was more than stuffed with the peppered tuna steak appetizer. I also got the kimchi seafood soup which i absolutely loved. I brought the majority of it home and just had it for lunch. The fam ordered gyoza dumplings, shrimp tempura, squid salad, a spicy girl roll, and a roll with OMG in the name. They also gave us a free volcano roll. Their plates were cleaned and no crumbs left. The service was very friendly and attentive. It's very clean inside. This is my favorite sushi restaurant in and near Virginia Beach. We originally were on the search for a sushi restaurant with uni (sea urchin) and came across Oishi off of Battlefield Blvd in Chesapeake. We quickly came to find that we have loved ever single item we've ever eaten here. All items are fresh, and the staff is willing to contact us when uni is available. As regulars, they've made us a really special shot of uni and sake to try and it was absolutely amazing. The staff is kind and attentive, and the chefs take so much care in our food. Soup comes out hot and full of flavor, sushi picture-perfect, drinks crisp. I really love eating here and would love to share it with other sushi-lovers in Virginia. read more

First time here and i honestly meant to go to another place but clicked on the wrong place on the app lol. The place was empty but we ate early because of the kiddos so it works for use. We got the chicken fried rice without the pineapples for the kiddos and it was ok not a lot of flavor. The fried rice did not taste Japanese at all. We got the chicken yakitori and it was also bland and nothing yakitori about it. It was chicken thighs on a skewer with veggies. For sushi we got the rainbow roll and two other roll can't remember the names. Also had the salmon sashimi. The portion sizes were great but the flavor and quality was lacking. Largest sashimi pieces I've seen in the 10 years, no one offers sizes like these anymore with shinkflation. The service was good, one server but they have 6-7 tables so not problem. Oishi was a great place to grab lunch! They had a wide variety of lunch specials at an affordable price, which made it the perfect spot for a lunch date with my boyfriend. I really enjoyed my Pork Katsu Box. It included Half California Roll, House Salad, Miso Soup, and Vegetable Spring Roll in addition to the Katsu. Took off a star because there was a bug in our soy sauce and the smell had a slightly stronger fishy smell than other sushi restaurants, but overall the food and service was great :) read more

This is one of my favorite Sushi restaurants in the area. Their prices are reasonable for what is offered and the food is consistently good. They use all of the major food delivery services but I like to eat there, I find it much more personable to dine in. We like to get the sashimi combo that offers a great selection of different sashimi, with everything from Tuna, Salmon and Yellowtail. It's certainly enough to share. I'd say I'd give 4 stars for creativity. But the execution was so so. First time for me to see tempura shrimp with asparagus, mango and then wrapped in soy bean wrap. I had a different idea of how the soy bean wrap would look like since I am familiar with the tofu skin used in Chinese cooking, I thought it would be similar! The soy bean wrap is more pinkish and really doesn't have a distinct taste. This sushi was called Tokyo Love. While the soy bean wrap didn't really do much to enhance the taste, the other ingredients were fresh and good. I came here on a recommendation from a friend I met up for dinner. Service is good. The waitress seems to know my friend as repeat customer. There was only one waitress but she seemed to keep up with taking orders. Stopped by for lunch today as we were in the area for an appointment-thank you yelpers for the recommendation! Normally my go-to for first time visit is a chirashi, but with Oishi's lunch specials, 3 rolls were such a better deal that I couldn't resist. Miso soup provided to start and was very pleasantly surprised by depth of flavor. All too often the 'free' soup tastes like troubled water, but this was very nice! Then we each picked our rolls (a limited selection for the lunch special - many more are available). I had spicy tuna, spicy salmon and eel & avocado; wife had california, avocado and shrimp tempura rolls. We were both stuffed when done; texture was great (additional seeds added to outside rice on roll to provide a little crunch. Fantastic sushi place especially for lunch as we each got three rolls. I got the healthier options of avocado with cucumber, tempura shrimp, and a California roll vs. hubby who was more brave than me opting for the eel, tuna and salmon. We were really impressed by how fully stuffed these rolls were for lunch specials as usually specials are not so generous so we were both happy. Moreover the miso soup was really delicious, full of genuine miso flavor and not the instant miso soup you can make for yourself at home or the diluted miso soup you typically get at other Japanese restaurants. One of my husband's favorite sushi places. The owner is often the waitress that serves you. Decor is simple but a little worn and torn. Other than that, their sushi is on point and never disappointing. Our favorites is the salmon crab roll appetizer. My second visit. I came during the "lunch rush" in hopes of a fresher experience. Unfortunately, this was more like "moms leftover" sushi. Not freshly made, my (cooked) rolls were mostly cold. Very nice and quaint place. I went for lunch last week and enjoyed the food and service. The sushi was very good and my waitress brought my order to me quickly. I've been a regular here since they reopened this year. I've tried different items on their menu and they never disappoint! My most favorites are the Spicy Girl roll, Volcano roll and the Godzilla roll. I love their miso soup and salads too especially the house salad, dressing just tastes delicious! I've always enjoyed this low key restaurant. I've been going here for years and it's been the same waitress, so she knows the menu inside out and knows how to describe the sushi dishes and entrees. With that said, it's only 1 waitress and 1 sushi chef. Fortunately, tonight it was was 1 other table in the restaurant along with ours. I've been other times and it took an hr to get our food. I've learned to go on which dates and time wisely. Food is always good and fresh. Nice healthy portions. Chicken teriyaki is chicken breast topped with a bed of broccoli. I liked the fact the meat isn't floating in the teriyaki sauce. Volcano roll was also good. Their take on it was California rolls topped with a crab/fish meat concoction. It was yummy! We just picked a random sushi spot for the night. This place is kinda in a random area, it's pretty small but nice and quiet. Decided to try the special for the day, Salmon Rangoon which was amazing! I highly recommend trying to ask for it!!! Ordered a bunch of special rolls. They have a great selection with seafoods in their sushi rolls, like REAL crab meat, oysters, and lobster! Of course my favorite was the Lobster Tempera Roll. They literally deep fry and roll up an entire lobster tail! We also got the Tiger roll and Volcano roll. The Volcano roll is a little different than the typical ones I've seen. It's has a mixture of all kinds of fish mixed in a special sauce that's then baked ontop of the entire roll. That's also a must! If you're a big wasabi person, this place makes their own wasabi! And if you ask for "Real Wasabi" they will give you a really strong mix. A little bit knocked the wind out of me. For dessert we stuffed down fried icecream! They also have fried cheesecake which I'd love to try on my next visit. I definitely wish to come back and try more rolls. Let me tell you about Oishi Sushi. The food is not the only thing that's amazing there but also the workers. I've been working at the nail shop in the same shopping center where Oishi Sushi is located for about 5 years now so I've been coming here for lunch since then. I'm a very picky eater so my order is always somewhat complicated but they reason with me and give me the order I want without hesitation. With that, everytime I come in, they greet me with a smile and already even know the order I'm getting which I love haha. Not going to lie, I'm not a big fan of eating sushi so I always get their kitchen entree specials. Their shrimp tempura appetizer with miso soup was my go to at first but then I fell inlove with their chicken teriyaki with rice and miso soup lunch special. My favorite part about their lunch specials is the price. It varies between 7-10$ which is fantastic for the amount of food they give you for the meal. Not but not least, their desserts are fire too! My boyfriend and daughter ordered the shrimp fried rice. Portion sizes are good. My order arrived with miso soup and salad. The food was flavorful, fresh and visual appealing. I was so pleased that I ordered again on Tuesday night. This time I ordered hibachi steak/shrimp. Oh boy! The food was not warm and looked and tasted as if the preparation had been rushed. The flavor was still there, but the shrimp was overcooked. The chunks of steak were cut larger than expected and a bit chewy. I'm not ready to write this place off yet. This place was an incredible find. The girlfriend and I stopped off on our way to the Outerbanks from D.C. The atmosphere was very quiet during the lunch hour and the lights are dimmed but not to the point of it feeling dark. The establishment also felt extremely clean and authentic. The sushi chef was truly an artist when plating the food and everything tasted very fresh. This is by far some of the best sushi I have ever stumbled upon. I recommend the volcano roll if you are looking for an interesting roll. It has fish flakes on the top that move to the steam coming of the grilled fish topping over a California roll. We went on a Friday night, and the place was pretty busy but it didn't interfere with our experience. I ordered the salmon rangoon based off what was recommended on past reviews, and it was probably my favorite part of the meal. Each piece was piping hot and filled with a lot of salmon. The outside was very crispy and drizzled with an avocado/jalapeño sauce. Fair warning: the sauce is spicy but tolerable! I would order this again and again. The tiger roll was excellent because they don't skimp on ingredients and the fish was so fresh! Every bite is flavor-packed and satisfying. Don't miss out! Last but not least, the miso soup was, I thought, better than your average miso soup. Cloudier than others, but packs more flavor. Oishi Sushi remains to be my top favorite sushi restaurant in town.
