The bread was so freshly-baked, it breath warm steam when I opened it up. The falafel was the best I've ever eaten--and I've eaten a lot of falafel. Took a road trip from Seattle to Bend and was craving a mediterranean bowl and found this gem. I lived in Middle East for 10 years and this was the closest to home I've eaten in the PNW. We got a huge fresh bread with zataar as soon as we sat down for free! It was so soft and tasty! - Highly recommend the mint lemonade as well, it's not too sweet or overpowering. - My sister and I shared the chicken thigh kabob bowl which was light and enough for the both of us. It had a fresh toum which had the best garlic flavor. - Ordered the baba ganoush and taboulli but that was ok. Wouldn't get it again. Very friendly and fast service! Upon arriving, we were seated quickly and a large pita was placed on our table. We had to call the server immediately to remove it (partner has celiac) and asked for a gluten-free one, which they surprisingly had! Server was also able to say right off the bat that the dipping oil was not gluten-free and took it away as well. While he couldn't immediately answer all our questions about which items were gluten-free, he slowed down to make sure he asked the kitchen staff when in doubt. This was my first time here, and I got to say it was absolutely delicious. Everything had so much flavor. There was so much food and I especially enjoyed their harissa spicy sauce! I have brought my family here for dinner a few times now and can tell you: we would come more often if we could. The food is consistently excellent! ( The pillowing bread, dipping Mezza, and shawarma plates are among our favorites. Anyway, I don't usually write reviews but I need to do something as the service here is nothing short of amazing! I took the family for dinner had a fantastic meal. I accidently left my purse on my chair with all my important belongings. The next morning I was able to recover my purse before opening which had been secured with contents untouched! The people at Nicholas Restaurant have restored my faith in humanity! We've been to Nicholas before, but not this location. Still, from our previous, five star experience, we were expecting very good things. And very good things are what we received. We were surprisingly able to be seated, as a party of five, immediately upon walking in, which is quite surprising since we had been unable to find a table at another place nearby without a nearly two-hour wait. The hostess was a bit aloof, but she was obviously overwhelmed as well. Once we we're seated though, our incredible server, Brennan, was incredibly kind, personable and efficient despite the fact he was running way too many tables. The guy was running to and fro the entire time we were there, which was impressive, but he should not have had to deal with all that by himself. Now I said something about this before, but I completely forgot in the moment, but you get a *lot* of food for your money here at Nicholas. We ordered three of the kids meals, one for each of the boys, and I have never seen them demolish a plate anywhere, like they did here. They were practically licked clean! And whomever came up with the idea of throwing a s'more into the mix was an utter genius! Now my wife and I decided to split a Vegetarian Mezza platter, and the Arabian Breeze Mezza, not comprehending how large they were. The Arabian Breeze came out several minutes behind the vegetarian one, and by the time it arrived, we were so full we could barely touch it. But considering how delicious the food is here, having leftovers is not a problem. No sir, not at all! We will probably be eating Lebanese cuisine for days! Noice! I said the same thing concerning their Broadway location, but I don't know anywhere else in Portland where you can eat as well as you can. Nicholas, for anyone near the same price. All five of us were stuffed to the gills, for a ticket price of less that it cost us to dine (for two!l at a similar Lebanese restaurant on Hawthorne, and without a condescending "environment/paper waste disposal" charge for eating on paper plates that we didn't ask for. We were a group of three and noticed it was somewhat busy but as we kept waiting more people cleared out and people who got seated after us were getting their orders. This was our first time at Nicholas and we loved it. They are back to limited indoor dining and we were lucky to grab a table right when we got there. The beer and wine selection is limited but the food was amazing. We didn't care for the dipping sauce that came with the wonderful flat bread they bring to your table at the start. The hummus was absolutely delicious and obviously made fresh from scratch. My lamb kabobs were not as moist as I was expecting but the spices and flavors were spot on. The chicken kabobs were juicy and fab. But my favorite was the saffron rice that came with the lamb kabobs. I'm not a fan of rice. I usually don't even touch it because I find it flavorless and loaded with carbs - so why bother. But I happened to try a bite because I was intrigued by the color. Oh man, it was ducking felicious! Food is good. But ordering online and picking up was not so good. I called them to get only 4 lamb pies to pick up at the restaurant and I called 15 min before I got there. Last week we where there they cost 3$ per one but now they changed place to 5$ per one... I came to pick it up in 15 min after I called and my food was not ready, they told me to wait for 5 min but I was there for 10-15. It was not a problem for me even though I was in the hurry. Then I placed a bag with food in my car. When I came home I realized that oil from pie was liking through the bag and it's on the floor and on my moms bag. I love the food. The price went up a lot around Covid, but I can't resist tume!! I was very disappointed in the service at Gresham. There is a seasoned wait staff there that generally does a good job. The young lady we got stuck with was behind including showing up with the salads right after the main course was served. I forgot about the Tzatziki Dipping Sauce. Ya, Bucket List Item..... Dipping Sauces. And then after you've eaten way too much bread because of the dipping sauces. Bam. Your order arrives. I will say, My Wife's food was awesome. The dishes my frordered also looked amazing and by how little they left behind, I would say it was also delicious. My Lamb Gyro however was less than great. I worked in a Greek restaurant for years. Me and Gyros go way back. Maybe I'm judging, ( I am.) But. It was a bit on the dry side and the Pita Bread they used was dry and crumbling where it was folded. It definitely could have been made a little tighter as it was a 2 handed operation because of how it was falling apart do to the bread being dry. Secondly, why are you skimping on Tzatziki Sauce. It's a Cucand Plain Yogurt Base. The lamb was also overcooked. It did have mostly nice flavors but it needed a bit more attention to detail. If I was alone, I would have made a point but I didn't want to ruin it for my Wife and Friends. I would like to try them again but may just for appetizers. read more

Lovely ambiance, pleasant staff, fast service and the food tastes homemade and inviting. I have used them twice to cater my parties and everything went great without a glitch. I highly recommend them for catering. My only complaint is the hummus was very bland/cold and my salad was not fresh on my last visit. We order the lamb salad kabob. The meat was cooked well and very tender. We also order the lamb shawarma platter and it was also very good. Portions side was big. Came with rice, veggie, hummus and lamb. The lamb on this plate had a very good flavor and smoky scent. We also order drinks. We had the mango smoothie and it was also very good and refreshing. This is a hidden gem in Gresham! My mom and I had a early birthday lunch on a Tuesday, no wait and excellent service from the hostess and waitstaff. We were greeted with water and massive pita, maybe 16" in diameter with a high quality grade olive oil and herbs to dip. This flavor combination was fire!! We split the veggie mezza which had tzatziki, hummus, falafel, tabouli, baked feta cheese macaroni and spinach pie. The hummus was creamy and lemony with the decadent olive oil, the falafel was crispy on the outside and tender and flavorful on the inside. The spinach pie was steamy hot and delicious and the baked feta macaroni cooked perfectly. You'd think the portions would be small but they were huge and easily could've split with a third person. We ordered a peanut butter chocolate baklava to celebrate my moms birthday and it came out with whip, flowers and a nice birthday message written on the plate. When we were done, they offered us a to go box and gave a complimentary baklava as well! What a fun surprise and treat! The interior was clean, lots of seating (the woodwork needs some help) but that didn't deter me from an amazing food experience is quaint Gresham. I will go back again. The giant hot, fresh pita bread came to the table with olive oil and herbs, and we ordered the hummus to go with it. Love this place, Their food is awesome. So fare I've experienced only great wait staff. I go there with international friends and they tell me it like being there (in Lebanon, Tuckey, Dubai etc.) And the TMI I am always looking good middle eastern restaurant that doesn't leave me with bad memories later. Yep TMI, but this place is good food with none of those "memories". You may have to walk around the block from available parking, and you may have to wait 20 minutes to be seated (each only once for me) but it is worth the walk and the wait. read more

We've walked by this spot numerous times and it always smelt amazing and was busy. Each time we said "we should try there sometime" but never did until today when we visited on a whim after our first choice was closed. We'd never been to a Lebanese restaurant before and weren't quite sure what to expect. They brought out a huge thing of pita bread with oil and their menu had plenty of good options. We had kids with us and unfortunately there was no kids menu on the paper menu but their website listed a kids sized chicken kabob with jasmin rice so we got that for the 4 year old. She loved it. I split a chicken kabob pizza with the 8 year old and he was only lukewarm on the pizza. Granted, it was not the pizza he us accustomed to but I thought it was really good. My wife had the lamb gyro and it also was very tasty. She loved the salad she got and liked the dressing so much she wished that had been used on the gyro instead of the tahtziki (sp) they used. I'm not sure that it would be our first choice of restaurants in the area but all in all it was a good experience and it was nice having something different available to us. We'd go back. read more

A family member from Israel says the food tastes just like home. That's reason enough to eat at Nicholas. My favorite is the lamb platter with the jasmine saffron rice and garlic aioli. The aioli is sooo good! I usually get extra aioli to take home for my leftovers. The portion is large enough to split or take home for the next day's lunch. I love that each meal comes with warm bread and oil for dipping. You can also ask for more bread when dining in. We've ordered the falafel appetizer, tahini, meat stuffed grape leaves, hummus, gyro sandwich, lamb shawarma sandwich, lamb kabab, lamb shawarma plate, meat mezza, baklava, and rice pudding. Everything is really tasty! Be sure to save room for the rice pudding. If you're too full at the restaurant, take the rice pudding home, it is that good. Heads up, lamb/chicken/ lamb shawarma can be ordered as a sandwich or a platter, be sure to specify which one you want. The Gresham location can get busy during dinner hours.
