waited way too long for a mediocre diner.. arrived around sunday noonish and waited about 25 min to be seated on a small table outside it took another 15min after we were ready for the server to take our order ~Food~ pancake: 6/10 just ok slightly dry and nothing special corned beef hash with scrambled eggs: 4/10 the corned beef was soooo salty i've never had such a salty dish?? i didn't even want to send it back cuz then i would have to wait another 15 min to track the server down eggs benedict: 8/10 solid dish and large portion ~Service: very slow. friendly but we had to keep tracking the server down. they need to increase the amount of workers here ~Cost: ~$20 per dish ~Parking: some street parking available, might need to walk a bit

    Biscuit and Gravy Plus

Classic long time diner, slight wait times during weekend services. The staff are attentive. The aesthetic is nostalgic but the food is just ok. Ordered biscuits and gravy with eggs. The biscuits were thick, not really buttery, the gravy was decent but could be from a can or premade batch. The pancakes were too thick for my liking. If I'm in the area for breakfast diner food, I might don't to try other options.

What I Ordered: -Huevos Rancheros $25.95 Can you believe it? I've lived in LA for almost two years and never had Huevos Rancheros until now. I heard great things about this place from many people. My Yelp friend, Eric H. recommended the Huevos Rancheros, and that was all I needed. I finally made it to Nick's Cafe this week, and I did! I almost felt a bit blasphemous ordering something without pork, especially with pig pictures everywhere. I really love this no-frills diner. I will never come here on weekends; the lines are intense. The best time to come is during the week, outside of breakfast and lunch rushes. I went on a Wednesday at 1:10 PM, and there were still people eating inside and out. The Huevos Rancheros come with corn tortillas, fried egg, shredded beef, onions, bell peppers, tomatoes, cilantro, homemade ranchero sauce, Ortega chiles, cheddar, cotija cheese, sour cream, and cottage potatoes. It was excellent! I'm at a loss for words, but it was a truly great and extremely filling dish. The price is a bit high, but the portion size makes it worth it, and it could easily be split between two people. I was greeted outside when I arrived. I was second in line; the person in front of me was ordering to-go. I was eating in and was told to seat myself. I found a seat next to the pig napkins to see the cool art. The service was helpful and attentive. I even chatted with one of the servers, who asked where I live and recommended a bar nearby. It's nice to have conversations with other people when our heads aren't in our phones. This diner is the best place to do that. The portions are very large here, so keep that in mind when ordering. I wanted more food, but I'm glad I didn't because I'm so full. I look forward to coming back and trying other dishes. I considered ham, but I'm not a fan. So I went with the Huevos Rancheros, and I'm glad I did. Nick's Cafe is great and worth the hype. Can't wait to come back!

Better get here early because this place gets packed! Luckily we got in before the rush! We sat inside at the bar. Cool old school spot with fun things to look at. Servers were friendly and easy going. The coffee was good and served in the mugs that make coffee taste even better. We ordered banana pancakes with eggs and bacon and waffle to split! These plates are huge! The pancakes were enough for the two of us to split in themselves. They were extra fluffy, had a great flavor, and too filling! The waffle was good too, but we were just so stuffed! I will definitely return. Enjoyed free parking too!

WOW WOW WOW!!!! We love a great hole in the wall!!!! We stayed overnight in LA and were looking for a recommendations for breakfast joint and came across this. BOY was this find amazing!!! We got here early! It was in the 40's outside so we opted for inside seating. Seating is extremely limited inside but PLENTY of outdoor seating. We sat at the bar and the ambiance was rundown, nicknacks of pigs and cop cars everywhere, shabby 50's diner in all the best ways. Theme is definitely pigs and (cop theme) aka pigs . Nice play on words, Super catchy and unique. The staff and service were amazing! They were receiving shipment but also serving the guest and was hustling since 7:00 am. They did not skip a beat with service and worked like a well oiled machine. We ordered the green salsa Chilaquiles Breakfast for $23.95 with Tortillas chips, scrambled eggs, green salsa and cilantro sour cream with chicken and boy it did not disappoint. It was a huge serving and worth every penny. Off the griddle we ordered the french toast!!! 3 huge slices of toast topped with whipped butter leaves you in a comatose state from how delicious and mouth watering it is. The Chorizo And Eggs Combo for $23.50 features scrambled eggs with chorizo--bells--onions is a really good contender. All in on, STOP BY! You won't regret it.

Est. 1948- Is Nick's cafe, LA's original greasy spoon? Could be. It doesn't look like much has changed since they opened 77 years ago. I read somewhere that Nick's last remodel, was sometime in the 1960's. From the drop ceiling, with fluorescent lighting, to the Venetian blinds and laminate counter top, Nick's looks like something out of a film noir movie. This classic greasy spoon is the type of place that modern 'retro' diners try to emulate. All the action is at the counter, that's where you want to be. There are only 25 stools, so you may have to wait to get seated, but it's worth it. On one particular visit, I showed up within an hour of closing, so there was no wait. I ordered the California Scramble (ham, scrambled eggs, cheddar, bells, onions, jalapeños, tomatoes, cilantro, avocado) and a cup of coffee. The food came out in reasonable time, and it was quite tasty. I also recommend the Huevos Rancheros. This dish is loaded with fried eggs, shredded beef, corn tortillas. ortega chiles, onions, bellpepers, tomatoes, cilantro, cheddar & cotija cheese, ranchero sauce & sour cream, served with cottage potatoes. I think this is the BEST Huevos Rancheros, I've ever had. On another visit, I ordered the Famous, Ham & Eggs. This is a giant slab of ham, baked with a brown sugar glaze, I ordered it with hash browns and toast. This is about the best example of a classic American diner breakfast as you can get, and Nick's is possibly the best example of an old school breakfast/lunch counter as there is left in LA (maybe Russell's in Pasadena - 1930?). The service is good, and the staff are nice. Another star of Nick's is the home made salsa, which is served in squeeze bottles throughout the cafe. This stuff is excellent. I would buy it to take home if they would let me. Nick's Cafe is a must visit for all Angelenos. One note of caution - The 25 stools at the counter are very close together, so you will be sitting as close to a stranger as you would on a subway. Be sure to wear your deodorant. Nick's cafe is a favorite stop for Bosh, and it is for me as well.

First time here and was not disappointed! Arrived slightly after 10:30am (sat) assuming it would be busy. We waited about 15mins maybe to be sat. The menu has many options and the "Light eaters" caught my attention! I ordered the First light (1 piece of toast+egg+meat), it was the perfect amount! The toast was a good portion. Absolutely loved it! * Also walked in and they were faintly playing Juan Gabriel (a favorite) and took it as a good sign!!

Best ham and I've ever had. Thick slices cooked to perfection. Good hash browns too. Generous portions at a decent price. The eggs and corned beef hash is super tasty. Its hard to find homemade hash this good. The place is old and a little beaten. The potential for a nice patio exists. Currently setup with canopy's.The service was good and the food came out fast. I would definitely recommend.

I always love coming here! Everything is delicious! Except the coffee. it's just ok. It's mediocre but what makes it taste good, is sitting at the counter with strangers. The best hospitality is always from diner counters, and this one is definitely the best! It has a vintage feel to it. There's lots of artwork from customers placed all over the place. It shows how much they appreciate their guests love for Nick's

It's Monday. It's President's Day. We figured traffic will be light, so we decide to make the drive down to DTLA from the valley to visit Nick's. It did not disappoint. Parking lot is small but we got lucky and found a spot right away. When we got there, there was a bit of a wait. But we only waited maybe 10 minutes to be seated inside. FYI, Inside is bar seating only. We were a party of three. We didn't mind at all. Right away we were greeted by our server. She was awesome! You could tell she's been doing this for a long time and you can tell she loves what she does. Since it was our first time we asked her what she recommended. She guided Us to the second page. She also recommended the biscuits and The house jam. Wow!!! First off, those biscuits were fantastic! They were big. They were soft and toasted on one side. I've never had a biscuit this way. She also brought us a side of their house jam. I'm getting this every time we come back. We ordered the Sonora chilaquiles, the Mexicali red chilaquiles and the machaca plate. My friends and I almost licked the plate clean. Our server came back several times to check on us and refill our coffees and water. I really wish I would have caught her name. She was a doll!! It is a little pricey but it is worth every Penny.

Wanted to try for a long time, it always have a huge line! Today isnt too bad, only 20 minutes of wait, and we are lucky to get a parking spot on site... It's a very old style diner, but very cozy... The food is fine, a bit "not hot" when they serve it, the salsa is good, so is the omelette.

It remains a unique addition to the neighborhood, as well as a good place to grab some interesting dishes. Since the opening of this particular business, the Zinc chain has opened in a few other locations. Those locations are much newer in not only their establishment but their design. This is not to say that this is still not an interesting, well-designed business, but, with time, it has become a little bit rundown. I hate to say it, but that is the truth. This location could really use an update and perhaps a deep cleaning. I was, in fact, kind of surprised at the condition of this business, for example, on the way towards their restrooms. From my opinion, it needs an clean up and an update. Also, the litter that surrounded some of the outdoor tables where I was sitting at my most recent visit was very surprising. This is just something to keep in mind if you're coming here for your first visit. In terms of what they offer for food, though it has evolved a bit over the years, they still have a great, heath-based menu, with some very interesting choices. For all of you vegetarians and vegans out there, you will, for sure, be able to find some tasty food to eat. Once upon a time, this restaurant was impacted with tons and tons of people. It was constantly full with people either going to the bakery and/or sitting down for table service. Shortly past their opening each day, there would be a line of people waiting for service. This seems to have changed, however. Meaning, if you're looking for an interesting place to eat, with some good dishes, at the far Southeast side of DTLA, near the lofts district, and you want a place without a long wait to get a table and/or your food, this may still be your place to go.

Also, we had a few questions about the menu and our drinks and the waitress would just say, "I think so?" or give a vague answer. She didn't seem very knowledgeable about the menu at all. Plans are made to come back and I must try the food when I do. Cheers!!

Distrito Catorce is a gem in Boyle Heights that delivers on all fronts. The food was outstanding!…read moreFresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Every dish felt thoughtfully prepared, with authentic flavors and quality ingredients that stood out from the first bite to the last. The ambiance was welcoming and the art was tasteful. What truly elevated the experience was the service. The staff were attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, making us feel genuinely welcomed throughout the meal. They were quick to offer recommendations and ensured everything was perfect without being intrusive. We ordered the tostaditas de atún agua chile negro, beet salad, carne asada taco and Al pastor taco and watched the World Cup game. Distrito Catorce combines exceptional food, a great atmosphere, and top-notch service. It's the kind of place that leaves you planning your next visit before you've even finished your meal. Definitely plan on coming back to watch more World Cup games.

To be honest, I was already biased because his Smorgasburg pop-ups were consistently good. But Distrito Catorce is different , it's like art. My favorite dish was the tacos de papa with salsa macha. The crunch of the potato taco riding into the salsa macha and crema felt like home, but with some extra pop. His salsa game is on point. The scallion salsa on the ribeye taco was also gas. Lastly, I really dug the tostadita de atún. It hit perfectly on these hot summer days. Low-key, I still want to try the El Rey de Noche. Tacos de beef trompo are starting to hit LA, and dude was ahead of the curve making picanha-brisket tacos de trompo. Service is smooth too. The servers are helpful, and solid at the bar. Overall, it's a cool spot with a menu that feels unique to LA.

My friend just flew in for a day because his relative had forgot her passport and needed to travel to Korea, so we stopped here. He missed a few meetings, a vet appointment and other things, but also saved the day, otherwise his relative wouldn't have been able to make it to Korea. While here, they ordered a salad with cherries and pecans that was pretty amazing. I think that may have been one of the better salads I've eaten. In addition to that, a cucumber burrata salad was ordered, and that was made well too. When my venison burger arrived, I took a few bites and it had the exact flavor I was hoping for and I thought the burger was done extremely well. My friend also ordered a pork chop, and it was an amazing cut, cooked perfectly, tender, juicy and everything you could ever want in a bone in pork chop. They also cut the entire piece for you and scraped every last bit off of the bone too. The service is really attentive. They come by your table a lot to ensure you have everything you need. The ambiance is a bit dim in lighting which sets a nice mood. And the place just happens to be dog friendly too. Sorry for the lack of photos, but I didn't wanna intrude on everyone else's meals. However, if you come here, definitely try the salad with cherries and the venison burger or the pork chop!
