My co-worker suggested Nick's Grill due to the reviews he's read about this restaurant. I was willing to try something new and we were not disappointed. Nick is the owner operator and a one man show. He's very personable and gave us recommendations regarding the best items to order. We both got the chicken sandwich, and in my minds eye, I pictured a McChicken of some sort. Oh boy was I happy to be oh so wrong. This sandwich is beyond my wildest expectations and amazingly delicious. Bring an appetite cause you will need it. The roll was nice and toasted, which adds to the depth of flavor. The Chicken was fresh and tasted like good quality chicken, well seasoned. The cheese is ample and the way it's melted will blow your mind. The sauce is sweet and balanced the sandwich nicely. The aesthetic of this establishment is very eclectic in a cool way, I felt like I'd entered a neighborhood joint from the east coast. A greasy spoon in the best sense of the word. I guess I should have read the description better when it didn't just say "melted cheese" but instead said "tons of melted cheese" on the chicken sandwich, but what I was served was inedible. Just... grease soaked. Quite literally the greasiest thing I've ever been served. Bread fully soaked in grease, greasy chicken sliding out of a greasy cheese wrapper, sitting in a puddle of grease in the paper serving container, grease everywhere. And two little slices of tomato. Also, it tasted terrible. I had one bite and wanted no more. My partner got a burrito. It wasn't assembled properly so it didn't hold together; it was like they put all the toppings from edge to edge, and THEN rolled it. It was falling out all over the place. It was also incredibly bland. Like a step down from Taco del Mar. But at least I could eat it, as it wouldn't have made me sick the way the chicken sandwich would have. Maybe this place used to be good but I was massively disappointed. This is a below average greasy spoon. I have eaten street food in third world countries so I wasn't turned off by the lack of decor or a lack of a modern clean appearance. The low review was due to the bad quality of the food. I ordered a burger and they burnt the bun and the fun was hard and tasted like it was previously frozen. Half the burger didn't have meat. It was $11 but def tasted worse than a Dick's burger which isn't a high bar. The tots was cooked directly from a bag in the freezer. It was overcooked, greasy, and gross. Maybe the oil was old? I saw two girl cooks char the tortilla of a burrito to the point that it had an octagon shape when folded. The food was cheap relatively to other places in Seattle. The inside was freezing. I've searched on yelp and had casually seen Nick's pop up a handful of times. While I have a bad tendency to only go to trendy places, the reviews at Nick's seemed promising enough to break from my typical ways. Like others have mentioned, this is a little hole in the wall spot. The decor is retro. While I was there, I overheard the conversation between the owner and some other customers. The owner had taken my order. Nick is his father but the owner has owned the restaurant for 19 years. I was charmed to learn that it's a long standing local business. I decided to get the steak burrito to go since I'm currently on call. The burrito was made to order. I wasn't in love with the burrito but that has more to do with difficult expectations. I can't expect to find a burrito I love as much as the ones I get in SoCal so easily. It leaned heavy but everything is well seasoned and worked. I did had a small craving though for salsa to go with it. These burritos are also very messy. Because the tortillas are warmed up on the grill, they aren't as flexible which makes it harder to roll. This means it's messy enough to have a fork included when you order to go. I think next time I'll try a sandwich. First off, love the retro decor! A mix of 80's and 90's memorabilia. There are about three chairs they each seats 4. And I noticed som barstools to the left of the register. They have a menu that consists of burritos, sandwiches, a customizable burger and various sides. This was my first time here and the cool dude manning the register and grill was super nice! The food is made to order, the veggies are fresh, the burger patty was nice and juicy, and the tots are perfectly cooked. Went here for the first time for lunch with a buddy. Great spot! The day we were there they were very busy. It still only took 15 minutes to get our food. We sat at the bar and watched the magic happen on the grill. The smells of grilling food were amazing! I had the regular spicy Steak Burrito. It was delicious and exactly the right size for lunch. We got the grande chicken burrito which was delicious and pretty grande. Hard for one person to finish, though not enough for two. While we liked it, it can be a bit hard to handle. We also got the steak sandwich, which I liked even better and a side of fries. The fries weren't my favorite, I prefer when they are cut thicker and more crunchy. Decided to try this place due to recommendations. 2 regular burritos, one drink and a side of tater tots for $35 The burrito was not wrapped right, there was rice everywhere. It was a mess to eat. The flavors are ok, but it just felt like a bunch of ingredients wrapped together, not a cohesive burrito. The tater tots were so oily. Every bite was half potato half oil. The bread was soggy the chicken seemed steamy and bacon grease was soaking the sandwich. The cheese must have been overheated as well since it released oils which happens when u cook cheese. Finally had a chance to share lunch with my fiance here. The owner and his fellow line cook (a lady :D ) greeted us and gave us a run down of the fave items on the menu: the burritos and the steak sandwich. Prices are reasonable here: under $10 for a solid good sized item. They serve burritos filled with rice, homemade salsa, beans, and choice of protein or vegetarian option. Various sandwiches include turkey avocado, BLT, steak. They also serve burgers and various sides. I got the chicken burrito. They grilled that burrito so nicely it had cross-hatched grill marks. It was a messy burrito and I don't know why they didn't cut mine in half, but it sure was tasty. Salty, gooey, flavorful. I am glad I opted to sub salad for rice as that would have been a hefty burrito. My fiance got the steak sandwich. Admittedly, he did not enjoy it that much, saying the steak tasted boiled and the fillings were just a heavy dose of cheese, tomatoes and onions. He said the bun was good, but he wouldn't get that again. Great service and quick - even the regular burrito is huge so I was glad that the server steered me away from getting a side of fries or tots. Only drinks are in cans or bottles...would have preferred something smaller to drink on than a 20 oz coke. The food was very tasty and I asked for avocado and got A LOT, which was a nice surprise. Burrito is toasted on the grill before serving, which is nice for texture but let's juices escape. The medium was not spicy at all though, hence the 4 stars instead of 5. Awesome burritos found in this hidden gem in Kirkland! I visited Nick's Grill while in the area, but heard about Nick's Grill long ago from my boyfriend's stepdad who grew up in Kirkland. Nick's Grill is one of those rare gems in Kirkland that's been around long before the millionaire-dollar houses were built along the marina. It's a small, family-run business that's stuck around, due in large part of its frequent and longtime customer loyalty. I ordered a burrito, which Nick's son recommended. This is what they're known for, so stick with it. I tried the chicken burrito and added avocado for an additional fee with a side of tots. My total was about $15 for everything, and portion was hefty; I ended up taking half of my burrito and most of the tots home. The burrito was solid. The trick here with the burritos is that they put the shredded cheese on the tortilla while on the griddle and then place all the goods on top versus putting cheese on top of the goods. What this does is make the tortilla super cheesy when you bite into it. It's genius! Why don't other burritos have this? In addition to the cheesy goodness were chunks of chicken, avocado, black beans, rice, tomatoes, red onions and salsa. Tots were also solid with a side of ranch. Not usually the combo you see, but just go with it. Glad to have finally discovered Nick's Grill, a Kirkland institution. A boombox playing an excellent collection of older music. The owner is taking orders, and he's very friendly. Gave us a rundown on the most popular items (burritos are the most popular, steak sandwich is the most popular sandwich). Then the food comes out. It isn't fancy, but it's very clean. The ingredients seem good quality, the steak sandwich is fresh and well combined with the r bread and sauce. The chicken burrito is a much messier combo with more ingredients, but my wife seems happy with it.
